I don't know if anyone can help me with this, or has experienced the same problem, but .... when typing SMSs on the keyboard I frequently mistype and somehow send the message before I have finished typing it. But have no idea how, I have tried pressing every key to replicate but without success, seems like I must be pressing a mysterious key combination which is a Send short cut but can find no documentation of this. Can Anyone help and is there a list of keyboard short cuts anywhere?
Thought that I had found the answer to my own post - in the phone manual. You canbring up a list of keyboard shortcuts by opening up a message programme, eg SMS, MMS or email, then in message list press and hold H key. On list is S - Send, but if I try this in open message just get SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS repeated across doc. Any help anyone. Nearly there but not quite!
you're accidentally pressing the left softkey on the keyboard
You are pressing the softkey by accident on the keyboard. Its very annoying, and I dont know of any solution at present.
Surur
Same problem here. Happens alot.
Yeah, the only way is to completely disable the soft keys, but you have to completely disable them, as in on every screen & including the two on the front of the device. Not very practical.
Same thing w/me, i just learned to be more careful when typing the letter T cause thats when i always hit it.

Bingo "t" or "r" Stupid Large Fingers.
This was happening to me but sorted it by using a little app called AE Button Plus
It doesn't stop you catching the button but you can change the soft keys so that they need to be double pressed to activate. You can also change them to a long press or 3 presses but i found a double press was good for me.
The downside is that it affects the soft keys on the front of the phone too as essentially to the phone they're the same button. That trade off is well worth it for me though, was bloody annoying sending blank txts every 5mins!

Yeah, happens too often. I sent reply email today that said "It"
Thanks to all replies, guess that's what I must be doing - bloody annoying. I already have AEButton Plus so if I can't be more careful with the fat fingers I may try that solution.

Not sure where exactly a post like this should go.
Anyway I have been looking all over the place for an application like this
http://www.geekandproud.net/software/keycaps600.php
For a kaiser. More specifically an ATT TILT keyboard layout.
Pretty much what it does is, if you hit the hard keyboard button once it acts normal. If you hit it twice (quickly) it does whatever function + that key would be. And if you press and hold it, it capitalizes the letter for you.
I had this on all my Treos, and it was the best thing ever.
I searched and found one application that says it can do 4 things per key, but after further investigation it seems like you can only map apps to the keys and specific macros made by the dev.
Anyone ever see an application like this for a TILT?

Not sure if it your s/w is different, mines a Vodafone v1615, if you press the Cap button quickly twice the cap light will stay lit and text will be in caps until you press the caps button a 3rd time to cancel it, if that is what your asking?
You are right you can use the fn, caps, and shift keys. However if I am typing anything that has any sort of capitals that are not at the start of words, it slows my typing down a lot. Always moving back to the fucntion key. I can type prolly 1/3 faster on my treo, then on my tytn II.

Get MagiKBLite. You can make your own key assignments. There is a Treo layout included, you can learn how to set up your own by looking at that. I have made a Tilt keyboard assignment layout, if you'd like to try it, then customize as you wish.
Thanks, that looks like exatcly what I was looking for.
I downloaded a hex editor and a rom and loaded the rom onto the hex editor.
But that kind of stuff is far above me.
I'm trying to edit the keyboard mapping, i need to switch some keys around.
I have the tilt, i would really like someone experienced to help me with this because my keyboard is basically useless right now, and ill have to buy a new phone if i cant fix it.
is there not a cab file to change from the tilt to the keyboard mapping you require?
The answer is...(drum roll please)..YES!
use the forum search option for "tilt keyboard fix" and you will be pleasantly surprised.
plz remember that unlike your girlfriend search will always be there for you. ;-)

lol i know theres that fix i just wasnt sure if it was tilt to kaiser one he required lol
no its not the keyboard fix i know about that. My issue is unique, i need to remap some of my letters. I'm fairly certain the issue involves modifiying a rom, it doesn't matter which, and to do this i would have to use a hex editor.

what keys do you need to remap and maybe someone will know a fix.
ok my k,n, i m, and period keys are unresponsive. this is a hardware issue, ill explain further if u want. this makes the keyboard quite useless without these keys functioning.
I never use my arrow keys so I would like to map each faulty letter key (K,n,i,n,.) to a corresponding arrow, and maybe the "ok" or "tab" button.
basically when i press left arrow, the letter p would pop up...etc
i would be truly gratified if u guys helped me fix this, because ill get a cheap unbreakable phone if the tilt wont fully work. Its been really frustrating,
how old is your kaiser?
do you have a warranty on it still?
could be easier to have it replaced.
well thats where i mentioned i could go into depth further. I cracked my screen, and replaced it myself. In the process I accidently nicked the side of the ribbon wire connecting the keyboard to the main unit. This resulted in those 5 keys becoming unresponsive.
I got the phone about 6 months ago, but the warranty was voided when i took the phone apart to replace the screen.
AE Button Mapper use google..... "Not AE Button Plus"
ok i downloaded it and got it installed but i have no clue how to use it.
theres some buttons to reassign keys however u have to press the key you want to reassign and that it not possible being that those keys are disconnected.
ok little update, i think the AEK program will work, however the first step is it has to create a chart by logging all the keys. You have to press all the keys individually and it logs them with a four digit number. For example pressing the letter "d" logs key 0044. Once all the keys are logged you can type them up in a text document and mix and match accordingly.
My obstacle is that i cannot press my keys that are unresponsive, for them to be logged. I tried to find a pattern by pressing keys around these and saw nothing that made any sense.
I'm not sure if the numerical values attached are standard for every application in the phone, or specific to the AEK program. I can't find a thread, that would list the value for those letters i can't press.
Does anyone know if there is a chart with all the values assigned to each key of the tilt?
Snowman, give me a link to this AEK program and I'll use it to log all my keys on my tilt, then perhaps we can compare them to what you have and hopefully get the missing codes for you
Moved to General.
Hex Editing a ROM file won't get what you need. I've seen people trying to patch the keyboard driver for this, but no success. Sorry, couldn't be more help .

Hi all,
I had issues with the touchscreen, especially related to the N1 not responding to touches or text typing in the messaging Compose field. And, very often, the send button didn't respond at all.
I did a hard reset and the typing appears to be better, plus the send button now works every time. But, now I can only "activate" the compose field by using the trackball to select and click on it. Then, I can type text using the touchscreen (of course).
I thought that touching inside the compose field brought up the keyboard before, but maybe it never worked and that was really my problem (a misunderstanding of how to open this field). I've not found the answer yet, so perhaps someone can let me know if simply touching inside the compose field works for them?
Thanks much,
Ross
** Additional info - I just found, in the PDF Nexus One instructions, that it says "touch the composition field" to type a message. So, apparently, the hard reset killed this function for mine...

When I was having this problem and it comes and it goes. I simply hit the power button to put the phone to sleep. Then hit it again and unlocked it and the touchscreen worked perfectly. The issue seemed to be ongoing and the fix was irritating but I liked the phone to much to really give up on it. However due to an itch for the Sense UI I have given the Nexus One and have gotten an HTC Lengend and haven't had any of the issues I had on the N1.
Hi there,
I have changed the rom on my X1 many many times therefore I cant really say when this problem started but using the keyboard, it is very difficult for me to type me messages.
The buttons either wont react or it will double register what I m typing i.e. if I press "e" once I ll get "eee" (just an example, this happens with all the letters regularly".
So a sentence like: "hey I am on my way" often becomes something like: "hey I a ooonmy waaayy"
the space button also does not register anymore and often I have to press several times hard to separate words.
any idea what this is, how it started, and what I can do? just to have mentioned it, the buttons arent sticky or anything and I ve been taking care of the phone.
It's a known issue. To solve it you have to disassemble your phone and clean the keyboard contacts. Afterwards your keyboard will be just as it were new.
sounds super dangerous? is there a tutorial as to how to do this ?
Yes, I think the tutorial may even be stickied. And its not that dangerous. I've done it three now, it gets faster with each disassemble.
In fact I think it's kind of easy. You have to do it carefully that's clear but it's a really self explaining process. I used to be a bit scared too but immediately saw that this is not necessary when I started to do it for the first time.
solution to multiple letters on single letter press
there is a nice software solution for this.
Install X1BH (it's a button mapper), and look in the General tab in settings. There, "enable" repeat key protection (by default, it's not enabled).
That's it keyboard workable again.

That gets rid of the double-triple typing, but you still have no sensitivity, as in you need to press extra hard for some letters.
OP, just open it up.
Hi guys, I all of a sudden have this problem that the send button will disappear if I "back" off the input soft keyboard in portrait mode, only the attach button will be left, even if I already input something, and in landscape mode, the text input box and the soft keyboard just took the whole screen, non other message is showing on the screen. I don't know when and how I changed anything or if that's just the way it is. My problem came with the input method I use in a foreign language with handwriting input, which could be set to use whole screen as input instead of an input box, then, all the buttons other than the input method will be disabled, you will have to back off the input, then click send, but once I back off the input, there's no send button.
Thanks in advance.
Screenshot? Just make a blank sms.
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

Yes, if I make a new sms, the send button will be there even if I back off the keyboard, but once there are other messages in the thread, the send button will not show even if there's already words typed.

Please see the screen shot, when I type something, then click back to retract the keyboard, the send button wasn't there.
Can you still use the enter button on the keyboard?
EDIT: Everybody, disregard this Q.
You have no problem. That is just how the text app works. It's just that NOBODY ever noticed this until now. I'm surprised you did! :good:

So funny. You're right I never noticed this. I never back out of the keyboard to send my message. It is strange that it only happens in portrait though.

Thanks, guys. then whose problem is this? Is it a HTC sense app or android intrinsic app? It's just for the english input, or many other input method, but I found this weirdy from a handwriting input method that you can set it into full screen input mode, in that mode, you can handwrite in anywhere on the screen, thus, it'll disable the original touch buttons and you will have to retract the input to use the soft buttons, but since there's no send button, I'll have to change input mode to send, which is just too much.
