qestion, no send button in portrait mode in message app - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hi guys, I all of a sudden have this problem that the send button will disappear if I "back" off the input soft keyboard in portrait mode, only the attach button will be left, even if I already input something, and in landscape mode, the text input box and the soft keyboard just took the whole screen, non other message is showing on the screen. I don't know when and how I changed anything or if that's just the way it is. My problem came with the input method I use in a foreign language with handwriting input, which could be set to use whole screen as input instead of an input box, then, all the buttons other than the input method will be disabled, you will have to back off the input, then click send, but once I back off the input, there's no send button.
Thanks in advance.

Screenshot? Just make a blank sms.
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

Yes, if I make a new sms, the send button will be there even if I back off the keyboard, but once there are other messages in the thread, the send button will not show even if there's already words typed.

Please see the screen shot, when I type something, then click back to retract the keyboard, the send button wasn't there.

Can you still use the enter button on the keyboard?
EDIT: Everybody, disregard this Q.
You have no problem. That is just how the text app works. It's just that NOBODY ever noticed this until now. I'm surprised you did! :good:

So funny. You're right I never noticed this. I never back out of the keyboard to send my message. It is strange that it only happens in portrait though.

Thanks, guys. then whose problem is this? Is it a HTC sense app or android intrinsic app? It's just for the english input, or many other input method, but I found this weirdy from a handwriting input method that you can set it into full screen input mode, in that mode, you can handwrite in anywhere on the screen, thus, it'll disable the original touch buttons and you will have to retract the input to use the soft buttons, but since there's no send button, I'll have to change input mode to send, which is just too much.

Thumb-friendly keyboard (PocketCM alternative)?

PocketCM is good, but I'm looking for something better. Even though PocketCM doesn't require a stylus, I'm still having a horrible time typing with it.
What I'm looking for is a thumb-friendly, on-screen keyboard that'll take advantage of predictive text to allow larger buttons. Something like the Blackberry Pearl keyboard (1 or 2 letters per key), or even the traditional phone pad (with 3-4 letter per key) would be enough.
Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks! Searching now.
Here's the link to Cootek Touchpal, its the best http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334437
Did you spell it right? A search revealed nothing...
**EDIT
Got link, thanks!
Thanks for the recommendation! It works great!
Three questions:
1) Is this free until December, when I'll have to register it?
2) Is there any way to move the space button to the center (and why is it on the left in the first place?)
3) What is "precise" mode supposed to do?

hold down the spacebar and drag to the middle and it'll move
precise mode appears to take away predictive text so you have to rely on finger slides to get the right characters.

Thanks for the tip. I tried precise mode after I posted an it was horrendous.
I'm still getting used to the program. There are a few things I don't like about it:
1) It takes up a lot of screen space. I would like to see a smaller key option
2) It doesn't always remove itself from the screen when you leave a text area
3) There is no way to spell words efficiently, for example:
I wanted to type "download". I enter "down", but as soon as I hit the "L" button, the letters "down" change to something else. You have to accept "down" as the word, backspace over the space that is automatically entered, then finish the word. PITA.
It's not for one thumb but Spb Full Screen keyboard is the best I've used. I actully don't use the Kaiser keyboard and type 3 times faster with Spb. Also try Tengo its a one thumb kb with big keys.
Touchpal is nice ive used it before.. Im still waiting for PocketCM to release a newer versions as i had some issues with the current version..
As for another one, I flashed my Tilt to the AKU cooked rom thats floating around the forums and there is actually a SIP that is a phone pad that supports T9 input and I find it very handy and works well for one handed operations!
Touchpal is the best in my opinion. Once you get the feel of it you can really type fast.
Yes a slight reduction in hight would be good. I suggest if they half the height of the top row which contains the various options we could benefit with some more screen real estate.
try to go to the htc asia website and download the official phone pad from HTC! I really find it useful!!

yeah it is a slight learning curve, but once you get used to it it'll be the best sip out the there! I got the same thing when trying to spell download, but after spelling out by using the sliding function, it showed up everytime when using the predictive mode! it just takes a little getting used to!
Well, now that I've been using it for a while, I have several big problems. I don't know who to blame (M$ or Cootek), but here they are:
1) The program will only work if I use it in conjunction with sipchange. Once I do that, I cannot select any other keyboard. They come up in the choice list, but if I select them, nothing happens. So I'm stuck with it. If I'm using the stylus, I prefer the standard windows keyboard, which is why this is an issue
2) The program does not go down and stay down. Unlike the standard windows keyboard, TouchPal is always popping up in your face. It drives me nuts, as I only seem to actually need it 1/4 of the time it decides to pop up. It seems to take 2-3 times minimizing it for it to finally stay down... and when it does, it can pop up again for absolutely no reason.
3) It may be the most the most intuitive keyboard, but it's still not very "finger-friendly". I don't consider myself to have unusually large hands, but I still cannot reliably hit the right key every time, even when I'm careful. Another thing it will do is detect a capital letter (diagonal motion) when I very clearly touched it without a swipe. Not sure why this is...
I'm still in search of something better....

Accidentally pressing keyboard shortcut to SEND SMS

I don't know if anyone can help me with this, or has experienced the same problem, but .... when typing SMSs on the keyboard I frequently mistype and somehow send the message before I have finished typing it. But have no idea how, I have tried pressing every key to replicate but without success, seems like I must be pressing a mysterious key combination which is a Send short cut but can find no documentation of this. Can Anyone help and is there a list of keyboard short cuts anywhere?
Thought that I had found the answer to my own post - in the phone manual. You canbring up a list of keyboard shortcuts by opening up a message programme, eg SMS, MMS or email, then in message list press and hold H key. On list is S - Send, but if I try this in open message just get SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS repeated across doc. Any help anyone. Nearly there but not quite!
you're accidentally pressing the left softkey on the keyboard
You are pressing the softkey by accident on the keyboard. Its very annoying, and I dont know of any solution at present.
Surur
Same problem here. Happens alot.
Yeah, the only way is to completely disable the soft keys, but you have to completely disable them, as in on every screen & including the two on the front of the device. Not very practical.
Same thing w/me, i just learned to be more careful when typing the letter T cause thats when i always hit it.

Bingo "t" or "r" Stupid Large Fingers.
This was happening to me but sorted it by using a little app called AE Button Plus
It doesn't stop you catching the button but you can change the soft keys so that they need to be double pressed to activate. You can also change them to a long press or 3 presses but i found a double press was good for me.
The downside is that it affects the soft keys on the front of the phone too as essentially to the phone they're the same button. That trade off is well worth it for me though, was bloody annoying sending blank txts every 5mins!

Yeah, happens too often. I sent reply email today that said "It"
Thanks to all replies, guess that's what I must be doing - bloody annoying. I already have AEButton Plus so if I can't be more careful with the fat fingers I may try that solution.

Installed Touch Keyboard & Keypad. Help w/ 2 minor issues please!!

Okay ladies and gents, I have searched and searched and can't seem to find my answer. I am sure one of you smart lads can give me a response in 4 seconds.
The keyboard and keypad work great on my Tilt but I have two issues:
1) I've noticed the screen shots include a tool bar above the keyboard with options for BOLD, UNDERLINED text, ect. I do not have that. What can I do?
2) My xt9 works fine but if I want to create a new text msg, the drop box of contacts no longer appears. This is quite hard to explain but before xt9, if I inputted the letter "J," a drop box of about 7-8 contacts will show up to with names starting with J; sort of like a quick list. The more letters I inputted, the more specific of results the drop box displays. Even if I am in ABC mode, this feature is no more. Would I have to kill Xt9 via registry to revive this feature?
Thanks in advance.

I too have this similar issue
I am unable to type anything in the to: field cause of Xt9
but after uninstalling of the touch keyboard it works again
yeah, I figured it is software conflict with xt9 - you can have one or the other kinda thing. I think I rather have the xT9 than the quick list. I will just have to press one extra key (return) for every contact included.

TouchPal 3.5 and HTC Diamond = incompatibility !!!

Does anyone else have the following problem ?:
When you go to the SMS tab, and press the small box to start writing new SMS, if you use the original Diamond keyboard, you can just type a few letters of your contact and it will fully appear. If you use TouchPal (I'm using version 3.5), this feature is disabled, you have to type your entire contact name every time, it doesn't recognize the first few letters and try to find a match. This is SO annoying !
Please tell me there is some workaround...
Could it be that the Diamond's original keyboard stores all the contact information in the Keyboard dictionary ?, if this is true, it means no keyboard apart from Diamond's original will allow quick find of contacts in SMS...
no problem with me..
say for eg you wanna call "home"
just press H O and enter and then it will detect home in my contact.
i suspect the problem may be.. touchpal "store" what you pressed in its own list instead of going up to the SMS directly..
Same problem. Would love to see an solution, but I think there is none...
Wizard,
Do you have the Touchpal keyboard ???
its free for personal use available online..
The contacts don't display when you start typing, but if you only type a few letters and then press send a page appears with all contacts that have the letters you've typed in their names. You can then tap the contact you wish to send to.
I don't find it a problem.

How are you able to activate the Compose field?

Hi all,
I had issues with the touchscreen, especially related to the N1 not responding to touches or text typing in the messaging Compose field. And, very often, the send button didn't respond at all.
I did a hard reset and the typing appears to be better, plus the send button now works every time. But, now I can only "activate" the compose field by using the trackball to select and click on it. Then, I can type text using the touchscreen (of course).
I thought that touching inside the compose field brought up the keyboard before, but maybe it never worked and that was really my problem (a misunderstanding of how to open this field). I've not found the answer yet, so perhaps someone can let me know if simply touching inside the compose field works for them?
Thanks much,
Ross
** Additional info - I just found, in the PDF Nexus One instructions, that it says "touch the composition field" to type a message. So, apparently, the hard reset killed this function for mine...

When I was having this problem and it comes and it goes. I simply hit the power button to put the phone to sleep. Then hit it again and unlocked it and the touchscreen worked perfectly. The issue seemed to be ongoing and the fix was irritating but I liked the phone to much to really give up on it. However due to an itch for the Sense UI I have given the Nexus One and have gotten an HTC Lengend and haven't had any of the issues I had on the N1.
