qwerty brightness - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi guys!
Is there a registry modify to set the qwerty timeout? I think that 10 sec more or less is too short.
Tnx

Strange my keyboard backlight stays on longer than 10 sec...

How can I always have the keyboard light on?
Thanks
msuk

on a related note, should the keyboard light not come back on when i press a key ? at the moment, if i pause when typing, the keyboard backlight goes off but doesn't come back on when i start typing again. is this normal behaviour ?

Mine comes back on when i start typing.

thanks for that - i thought it was odd behaviour ...

The keyboard has a little light sensor and will only come on if it deems it necessary. This can be changed in the control panel somewhere.. I don't have my phone on me at the moment.

i'm assuming that if the light came on initially then the light sensor deemed it necessary. i'm assuming that it should come back on again a few seconds later when i start typing again.
can't seem to find that entry in the control panel which almost certainly means that it IS there somewhere, i just can't see it ...

Start/Settings/Personal tab/Buttons/Backlight tab
Uncheck the box that says
Enable keyboard backlight auto sensor
The auto sensor does not work very good. This way if the light goes off it will come back on as soon as you start typing.

Unlocking Screen with dim display

I have tried searching for the answer to this so please do not ridicule me if i missed it!
Is there a way of stopping the screen from being so dim when i press the power button to wake up device if it is locked.
I always lock the device when i am not using it and will quite often press the power button quickly to turn off the display. When i come to use the phone etc i press the power button to get the screen back then press unlock at the bottom of the screen then the unlock half way up the screen, phone unlocked. BUT when the power button is pressed to turn the screen on and the phone is still locked the screen is so dim i cannot see it in bright daylight. Is there a way of making the screen brighter so i can unlock it?
David
simple answer YES!
The registry key here controls the backlight lock level:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
There REG_DWORD Key called LockLevel can be set between 0-10 (0=0%, 10=100% locklevel backlight brightness)
The system defaults this setting to 0, hence the dim lock display.
I have found however that the value does not stick after a soft reset/reboot, and goes back to default, so i have set a startup .lnk file that runs a reg script to set this value silently on boot for me.... you can do this yourself using the latest taskmanager 2.9 from here: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm (/silent command line parameter was only added in v2.9 so i can run a reg script without the prompts!)
I like to have a bright pin/unlock screen as i like to use the screen as a torch/light by just pressing the power button!!
Enjoy.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the answer to that. I too have been having the same problem, and it has bugged the hell out of me, especially on those bright summer days .
Thanks heaps for that!!!
Sorry for the delay, but many thanks for the answer! Damned annoying that was.
Regards
David
How do i make this .lnk file? What should it say? Where do i put it? etc etc. Sorry for the question but not done any of this before. The reg edit was easy enough but now i am lost.
Cheers

I also would like to do this, but havent figured out how to create a command line with TaskMgr that will execute at startup - would you share how it is done?
Also, when I set locklevel to any number other than 1, no dimming occurs when I lock my Tilt. I experimented because I thought I'd like a little dimming but not as much as the default - but it seems like it's all or nothing.
I hate the way the Kaiser and/or WM6 insists on spoonfeeding some settings to us, no matter how much we would like to permanently alter them!

BUMP - Anyone know how and what to do to make this .lnk file and then how to use it?
David
strange thing. When I adjust this value it messes with my backlight timeout. I normally have this set to 30secs, i.e. the screen goes dimmer after 30 secs. When I adjust the lockout value as described it goes dim after 5-10 seconds. am I doing this right? I wasn't sure if I had adjusted the value correctly.

I have searched all over can someone tell me how to get the \silent to work I have taskmanager v2.9 spent the last 2 hours trying to get this to work please give a bother some help
I think the answer is here...well, not an answer but at least an app that claims to do what you're looking for.
This answer may be too basic, but have you tried changing the registry edit and then NOT doing a soft reset, but instead doing a full power off/on? Some registry entries WON'T stick with a soft-reset, but will with a power cycle. The power cycle gives the OS a heads up that it's being turned off and writes things more permanently...

I always power cycle after a reg change (It forces a registry write and a SR doesn't) but it doesn't matter...this reg change doesn't stick after a power cycle for some reason.
EDIT:
BTW, I loaded BrightLock and it works perfectly.
Excellent seems to do what i needed!!! Cheers

I am experiencing a similar issue. My normal backlight on battery power is set to 1 minute, but after installing brightlock, it keeps changing to 10 seconds. I really like what brightlock does for me, but not at the cost of dimming the screen when I am trying to read something. Is there a configuration I am missing?
I think I got rid of this annoying “dim” problem without .lnk file and scripting.
See my next post.

I think I got rid of this annoying “dim” problem without .lnk file and scripting.
What I did is the following:
1. Downloaded and installed Taskmanager 2.9 from: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
2. Opened Taskmanager and went to Regedit
3. Deleted LockLevel folder from HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
4. Saved
5. Rebooted the phone.
After rebooting, system recreates LockLevel folder, however, “dim” problem is gone.
Unit still dims the screen, but pressing any key triggers the bright display.
Suggestion: Export registry and backup your device before playing with Regedit.
can some one please re-post brightlock? mediafire link seems to be done and this is doing me nutter

TomTom volume control

Hi all,
On my Kaiser, if I forget to unmute my phone before starting TomTom 6, I can't actually adjust my volume. The trick I used with my 8125 was to go to the Today screen and tap the volume control. On the Kaiser, touching the screen brings me back to tomtom, even if the today screen is displayed.
I remember finding a replacement exe for TomTom that unmuted the phone when it started and restored your former setting when you quit, but I can't find it even though I've searched for an hour. Help?
Thanks!
-n.
When I forget to turn on the volume, I slide open my Kaiser and press the Fn key together with the folder button (bottom right). From there, you're able to adjust the volume
But I guess it is indeed better if the volume gets adjusted automatically...

It's that "Right Arrow" button. When you first press Fn (bottom left), all the blue symbols on your keyboard can be activated.
There is a blue icon of a folder on the Right Arrow key.
So press Fn and right arrow and you're in Windows again (and able to adjust the volume).
Then use your task manager to get back in TomTom.
Same problem for me with my Tilt. But, there's no folder icon on my keyboard to try your suggestion. The only way I've found is to exit TomTom, unmute the phone and start it again.
Anyone find a fix for use on the Tilt?

ah, i see, on the tilts, that key toggles wifi on/off
Found it!
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/gps-talk/140969-tomtom-6-volume-override-loader.html
This loader unmutes your phone when you launch tomtom, and restores your mute when you close. (it's smart about restoring the previous state, so it won't mute if you weren't muted before launching tomtom)
Incidentally, I have some useful links in my del.icio.us bookmarks tagged with 'windowsmobile'
http://del.icio.us/osunick/windowsmobile
(disclaimer: I'm a product manager on del.icio.us)
Hitting the phone "Hang up" button works to get back to the home screen.. you can then tap the TomTom icon bottom right to bring it back.
Fully
Have you tried this? Getting to the home screen is not the problem, it's that touching any part of the screen, including the volume control, puts you back in tomtom, thus making volume changes very difficult.
Is my Tilt different than your Tilt?

Im not sure what you guys talking about.
The FN + Arrow key works.
The hang up key works as well.
I have my windows key set as file explorer that works(perfectly).
Im usingTomTom 6. I cant recall my version.
When Im in TomTom and active my todays page. Tom Tom will minimize at bottom task bar. It lets me change just about anything.
Not sure why you guys has problem, maybe you need to install HTC taskmgr to solve this issue. Because most of my working program will minimize at bottom, so I can have fast access to it.

This may depend on what build of Tomtom you have. As the OP says with some b uilds, even when you get to the tgoday screen using Fn buttons, the very next screen tap takes you back into tomtom.
However, as also pinted out above, pressing the red phone key works and you can then change the volume or any other task, BUT instead of returning to it using a Task Manager you just tap the tomtom icon that has appeared in the lower task bar.

My Tilt has the original AT&T ROM and I'm running TomTom 6.010.
The trick with the red phone key always minimizes TT6 to the lower task bar. But, I usually get dumped back into TT6 when I tap anywhere on the screen. Sometimes (rarely) it does let me unmute the speaker, but mostly not.
The Fn-arrow trick never works for me.
It's usually easier for me to quit TT6, turn on the speaker and then restart it. Of course, that means I have to wait for GPS to start up again.
mikechannon is right, some builds of tomtom allow you to change the volume once you are in the today screen, some builds will just bring you right back to tomtom with a tap on the taskbar.
for the builds that bring you back to tomtom on a screen tap, this is how i do it, hit ok or red phone button to get back to the today screen. when its at the today screen, i press the ie button to bring up ie, then you can tap on the volume icon on the taskbar.
and it doesnt have to be ie, can be just any app, you can even launch anything thats on the today screen, just as long as you dont tap on the taskbar

Yes! Just tried that trick and it works great... thanks!!!
Anyone know if its the older or newer builds that allow the volume change to work properly?
You guys should really try that TTLoader app that i linked to earlier. It maxes out your volume and launches TomTom and restores your original volume settings when you leave.

It's a very lightweight app and doesn't actually take up space in your registry, so it has zero impact when not running and minimal impact when tomtom is running. You should try it.

But, here's one for you. I've got a spot on my Today screen with TomTom on it (tap and the program starts). Any way you know of to get the loader to start instead? Maybe I'm missing something very easy?

Sadly no, I use either Voice Command or the PTT button to start TomTom.

Is there any chance of a cab install version ?
So it can be simply reinstalled when I change roms (which I do a lot).

Keyboard light

Hi,
The Keyboard light goes off after a while (idle time), and when I use it again, it doesn't come back (like backlight for the screen). Unless I slide it in and out again.
settings->buttons->backlight
uncheck enable keyboard backlight autosensor
when its checked, it does the behavior you describe (for me atleast). So unchecking it should make the keyboard lightup whenever a key is pressed
actually, there is a sensor on the keyboard on the upper left-hand corner. if you block that with something like your thumb and press a key, the backlight will go on again.

Keyboard backlight - can it be turned off?

In the dark, the Xperia keyboard looks awesome. But in the light, the keys are hard to see. I have to tilt the device at different angles to read the keycaps. The keys are silver and the backlight makes them disappear in ambient light. Anyone have a hint, like shutting off key backlight when the light sensor registers light? Would be a great idea if they could do it - we only need the backlight for the keyboard when it's nearly dark.
Just go to settings, system, power, backlight and tick auto adjust. This is what i use anyway and it means that the keyboard hardly ever lights up in the day but looks great at night.
Thanks, this makes the keyboard better.
But the screen is now a bit less ambient than I prefer.
Is there no way of killing of that backlight permanently?
Me too...
I´m very interested in a solution too because I´m having the same experiences ! (silverkeys / when lit up hard to see)
I'd like to turn off the backlight of cursor keys. I mean completely. Now they light up if I click the cursor key. Any idea ?
Almost a year passed with no solution!!!
Xda developers come on!!
This works for me
The app ToggleAuto is the best solution I´ve found. It simply turns autobacklight on and of. works for me.
Put a shortcut on your todayscreen for easy access.

Backlight levels : change them easily ?

Hi,
i noticed that automatic backlight is no so convenient:
the night, i found the level too bright, so i desactivate the "auto feature"
but now to change it, i have to go to start/settings/plus/etc
not so easy, if you are outside with a beautiful sunlight and you forgot
to increase the level after your last night ;-)
is there an easy way to up/down like with the volume?
perhaps associate with AE button plus, long press with volume up/down
but in this case wee need an exe/link to associate to them)
any idea ?
thanks

i am using ageya G-Light for automatic light level, it is a suefull free tool.
