First, what is a good and light* instant messenger program for WM6 that will use AIM?
Also, I used KaiserTweak to disable data after 60 seconds of inactivity, could anyone tell me what the specific registry entries are for that?
you've got 3 choices. 2 free. First is mundu im....this one is $11 for lifetime....its about the most polished out of the 3. second is palringo. just as good as mundu but lacks the same polish and supports image and voice messaging in the im itself. and then theres octrotalk...this one is still in beta but it shows some promise. currently im sticking to mundu but i switch back and forth to palringo.
you mention the data disconnect....this is interesting...i notice my device disconnects me from aim every now and then and i dont know why....you think this could be why? is this set to kill data after a certain time by default?
My opinion:
If you use MSN only, stick with the Windows Live Messenger, no other software is better than that (tabbed session is finger friendly).
And for multi IM, I use IM+
For me, it is nice and I like it very much. I can use left-right d-pad to change tabbed session
Are those IM programs actually using 3g or are they sending SMS back and forth? I have an unlimited data plan but not unlimited txt's.
It uses data not SMS. Interesting idea though, SMS encapsulated TCP/IP. Reminds me of that old TCP over carrier pigeon gag RFC.
thanks for the reply
I set mine to kill the data connection after 60 seconds. But I have noticed that when browsing on Opera it will disconnect causing a network not found error and then immediately reconnect itself. Could this be from disconnecting data connections after 60 seconds? I thought it only did that if not active.
Also make sure you DO follow my articles and DO search the Wiki. The latter also contains the IM Bible, to which I'll promptly add a Palringo section.
All this because AIM is supported by FAR more IM apps - not only three.

Does anyone have the .CAB for that oz instant messenger that comes with the MDA in the US? I would like to get it since i have unlmtd texting/IM. I searched aaround with no luck.
oz
is on the ftp site under ext roms us
Instant messenger
Good luck!
AgileMessengerWMSP.exe
is not the oz program
I think this is it. Pulled it from the T-Mobile extended ROM.
Has anyone figured out how to use OZ IM on Cingular network?

Not sure if this matters, but that's the smartphone version. The PPC version can be found here.

I'm thinking it's been modified for the t-mo network. I can't get it working wtih wifi either but that Agile Messenger works fine with wifi. Too bad it doesn't work on the Cingular network.
Got it downloaded and installed. thanks for the help guys. Im a newbie with this wizard. THough not with bleeding edge tech and rom upgrades. my sx66 had 5.0 on it. Then i sold it for $458. I paid $404 for it. If only T-Mo would update soon. Then i wouldnt have to "void" my warranty.
new rom is out from tmob
check the form index
What is OZ? How does it compare to MSN or Agile? Does it use Jabber or something similar?
OZ
and not talking about the HBO show
Oz is the default chat program from t-mobile it does yahoo icq aim
it uses txt messaging protocals so if you dont have unlimited text mess you will be billed for every send or recieve.
where the other Agile or the other programs that come from some one else use your Data edge tech not txt messasaging and will bill on that so if you have the internet plan if would fall under that not Txt messaging plan
OZ makes more money for T-mobile since most dont relize that it is using Txt messaging to send and recieve. and t-mob does not make that clear at all.
Bu99er that then. I'll leave it off, and stick with Agile.
Hi,
So, I recently got the Tmo MDA. And I'm pleased with it thus far. However, I know that it installed the OZ IM since I have it in my remove programs list - but where's the actual APP? It's not in the programs section....
Thanks,
Q
should be in
active syc to beable to remove it there
Oh, I know how to remove it, but where is this OZ IM application? I don't see an icon for it on my programs list.....
--Q
oz
says instant messaging not oz till you click it
I don't have any icon called instant messaging in my programs....Am I missing something?
--Q
maybe
the program
Ok, so...maybe I'm not making this clear.....I clearly have it "installed" on my PDA since it's there in my remove programs list, and I saw it being installed when I first turned on the pda and it ran through the customizations. I don't seem to have it listed in my programs, where on the PDA is it installed? Maybe I can run it manually just to see what it looks like....

Hello,
I have done a search for this and couldnt find a direct answer so I figure ill ask here, it could also help others.
My situation is this, I am currently with att and have unlimited texting (including MMS and instant messengers). The thing is, I do not pay for a data plan as I rely on wifi since I have hotspots everywhere (being from los angeles).
I disabled my data connection so that my kaiser would not accidentally or automatically use my data connection, but in doing this, I cannot send/recieve MMS, nor can I use instant messenging programs as they use little bits of data.
My question is this: Is there a way to keep data disabled but only have it enabled for certain programs? If this cannot be done, is it possible to keep data enabled, but only have it disabled on certain programs?
THanks in advance for any help you guys have!
does anybody have any input on this? I would really like to know about this because I feel crippled....are there possibly programs that allow access control of programs?
Im guessing that this is not possible then? Im going to let this die and stay unresolved after this bump...would appreciate some input...
For me.. in HK.. the case you have experienced will be handled by the mobile operator which they have an "Proxy" which only allowed certain program to access .. or not program.. but may be the URL.. then different Internet Profile can be set in your PDA in order to access different URL..
So.. I don't know whether ATT will got any similar Proxy available..
Does anyone with AT&T know about this proxy which I can set up to allow only a select few programs to access my data connection?
im sure somebody knows something that could help me with this problem? I want to keep DATA disabled for programs that use it except for MMS and Instant Messaging programs that use Text Messages (because small data is required)....
maybe a software firewall for the pda would be the way to go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=246102&highlight=firewall
intersting, and Id be able to control which programs have access to my data connection?
ill check it out! any other input? thanks in advance!

any other suggestions? i would really really like to use MMS and instant messanging on my phone w/o having to pay for a data plan.....and i also want to make use of my unlimited text messaging, thank you!
I was wondering if anyone has a cab for an Instant Messenger that doesn't use the internet but uses SMS to send messages. Since the newer ROMS has a tendency to remove this from their packages, I thought I would ask.
I have unlimited messaging shared across the family plan but get charged heavily for using internet.
So any good SMS Instant Messengers?
Search + sms messenger = you finding it faster then waiting on a reply
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...q=sms+messenger&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Thanks but I already had done the search before and didn't find the cab that worked. There were a lot of threads asking for the same thing but came to the same end as this having little to no responses.
One person had posted a cab for the 8525 and it didn't work as when I sent messages over the installed cab, the responses wouldn't be picked up by the program but by SMS as a text.
However, I did find the cab for it as noted from the ATT forums.
In addition to this, I was wondering if there was another program outside of the one that is provided by ATT that could do the tasks but in such a way to out perform it.
Anyhow, for future reference should I or anyone need it in the future, here is the cab for it.
i noticed that SMS instant messengers tend to need a data connection in order to connect initially, then every message from there counts as an SMS.
Though thankfully, after a series of calls to ATT, I have gained a consensus that initialization isn't charged.
I'm seriously thinking of getting the TD2, but need some advise first. Can anyone recommend an IM client that I can use on the TD2 with Google Talk. I've had a search around the forums, but can't find any recommendations (in relation to the TD2).
If your using IM on the TD2, how does it alert you to new messages? Also, is there a status light on the TD2?
Thanks in advance to any help you can give me.
you can change the setting for receiving messages from vibrate to sound notification, and there is a led next to the top speaker which also alerts for messages

Try FRING, you'll like it. GoogleTalk, Skype, ICQ and so on -- all in one application
Fring seems to get stuck at "Logging in...", it's been going for about 8 minutes!
also try Nimbuzz. It supports Google Talk. I find it better than Fring because Fring used to hide the compose window with the soft keyboard on my Diamond 1 - so I couldn't check what I was writing. Nimbuzz works well, but doesn't have the SIP client that Fring has
Managed to get Fring working last night, over Wi-Fi. Still doesn't like running over T-Mobile though, I'm guessing T-Mobile must be blocking access because it supports VOIP. I seem to recall Fring has a Proxy server that you can use to get around this restriction, but when I go into Fring's SETTINGS menu, there's just a blank screen. I suppose this is a compatibility issue with the TD2 - the text is awfully big so maybe all the ticky boxes are off-screen? Had a poke in the registry and found some Fring registry keys, but not one to turn the proxy on and off.
Does anyone have any idea of how to fix the Settings screen to work properly, or what to change in the registry, or even if using the Fring proxy will work at all?
Many thanks for any pointers :O)
It's not going to be very useful over Wi-Fi only - I primarily want it for the Facebook Chat and need to be able to use it while out and about.
Hello, I have a HTC FUZE with AT&T and an unlimited messaging package.
I'd like to use an AIM-based client via texting rather than data because i locked data usage (they charge $0.01/kb) and my phone connects automatically.
Anyone has the .CAB file to install on the phone?
I found a few in this forum but they were for T-Mobile and Sprint.
Thank you in advance!
Just sign on to AIM and hook up your phone for mobile usage...its uses texting rather than data..

Sign in to AIM? Where?
I mean, i want the application for my phone, the .cab installation.
The aim that my phone brought requires a data plan
I tried installing the new beta of aim too but it requires a data plan as well...
Here is the cab file:

It connects through data
it requires Media nET
Here's the OZ messenger that came default on AT&T's Fuze.
It uses txt messages to send IM's, but it MAY require a small amount of data transfer to get the list of online friends, etc. It should be minimal, if anything.

This one asks for data too, and i have my data unlocked because its "pay per usage" and they charge 0.01$ every 1kb.
So i can't use aim at all on my phone i guess.
Is there an updated version? Or is 2.0.84 the current one? I went to Oz's site and the screen shots look nicer, but i'm not sure if that's for WM phones and also, no download links on the site...
latest version is 2.0.94 but it looks the same as .84
All of them require some data. Read about OZ, you'll see. The one I poasted is dirtectly from AT&T.
