LAS VEGAS -- Four years ago, Manny Pacquiao steamrolled Marco Antonio Barrera en route to an 11th-round TKO victory. It wasn't nearly as easy this time around, but Pacquiao still got the job done in the rematch.
Landing harder punches and flurrying effectively, Pacquiao controlled the action and won a unanimous decision in their junior lightweight fight Saturday night before an excited crowd of 10,112 at the Mandalay Bay.

Manny Pacquiao, left, took Marco Antonio Barrera's best shots and kept marching forward.
"It was different from our first fight," Pacquiao said. "He's a good, smart boxer. For me, I'm satisfied with that win. I thought the people were happy with that fight. I'm trying to make people happy, to give a good fight. I hope that people liked this fight tonight. We did our best."
It was the second consecutive defeat for Barrera, who lost his title to Juan Manuel Marquez in March. Coming into the rematch with Pacquiao, Barrera said it would be his last "big fight." Afterward, the Mexican legend said it was the last fight in his storied career, period.
"Honestly, this is my last fight," said Barrera, who in an 18-year professional career won world titles at junior featherweight, featherweight and junior lightweight while engaging in many of the era's most exciting fights. "He had very good defense and it was hard to break through."
After the first loss to Pacquiao, Barrera went on a six-fight winning streak before running into Marquez. And if this is indeed the last we see of Barrera in the ring -- he had mentioned a possible farewell fight during the days before the fight -- he said he can live with the outcome.
"I'm sad because I lost, but he hit me with very few punches, very few combinations. I thought I controlled him with my left hand all night," said Barrera, a lock first-ballot Hall of Famer. "I'm happy we're finishing off the career with that."
After past losses, Barrera had confounded experts regularly by rebounding with an unexpected victory. He couldn't do it Saturday.
At 33 and with many wars behind him, Barrera was just a step slower and punch late.
"I lost my head in a couple of the rounds," he said. "I think I got too caught up in things. I shouldn't have stayed in those exchanges. I should have just kept boxing him. I thought I boxed him really well."
Pacquiao (45-3-2, 35 KOs), of the Philippines, was getting the better of most of the exchanges and was doing it again in the 11th when he knocked Barrera (63-5, 42 KOs) into the ropes.
Barrera, who got cut under the right eye in the round, came back and whacked Pacquiao across the face with a right hand while referee Tony Weeks was breaking them.
The foul cost Barrera a point, but he was already far behind. Judges Jerry Roth and Glenn Trowbridge each scored it 118-109 and Tom Schreck had it 115-112. ESPN.com had it 117-110 for Pacquiao.
Pacquiao, 28, said that just because he had beaten Barrera so easily on that November 2004 night in San Antonio that he was not expecting the same kind of fight this time.
"I was careful in this fight. He's still a good fighter," Pacquiao said. "I was just lucky in the first fight that it happened like that."
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, said thought Pacquiao would be able to knock out Barrera, who was never close to going down.
"Barrera surprised me that he lasted as long as he did in the fight," Roach said. "He has a lot of heart and guts and he fought a great fight. Manny boxed well. He showed good footwork. When he cut him off and moved Barrera to the right, it was beautiful. I give Barrera a lot of credit. I didn't like it when Manny followed Barrera around."
HBO will replay the fight next Saturday (11 p.m. ET) along with live coverage of the lightweight unification bout between Juan Diaz and Julio Diaz.
Both fighters earned at least $2 million, but only Pacquiao will move on to greater paydays.
The victory also set up a possible rematch with Marquez. In their 2004 fight, he knocked Marquez down three times in the first round but Marquez stormed back to gain a draw many believed he won.
That fight, like Pacquiao-Barrera 2, is possible thanks to the summer truce between promotional companies Top Rank and Golden Boy, who both claimed Pacquiao's promotional contract.

I was expecting a KO. But honestly, I got worried when I learned that Pacman has to loose some weight few days before the fight. Never want to repeat his loss to the Thai many moons ago.
Anyway, t'was a good fight. Hats off to Barrera for fighting like a true champion.
Mabuhay Manny.

National championship here we come WHOOOOO
Tarheels all the way. We have been up and down this season but things are looking up under Davis. I hate Florida, so I was upset Tech lost...plus being from Texas I would prefer a Texas team be in the BCS championship.
Ya, i feel you. it sucked when we lost that game earllier this season and dropped from number one. We have a great team this year i would have loved to see them go undefeated.

we'll see what happpens after this weekends ou osu game....
its a three way tie for a ranking position
College and NFL fan here. I'm a native Coloradoan so I'm a Broncos, Avs, Nuggets and Rockies fan.
Graduated from CSU (Colorado State Univ) and still go to Rammies home games in Fort Collins.....definitely not a powerhouse like OU, Texas and company but we've got some tough conference teams with Utah and BYU now. Hopefully the program will keep progressing and moving forward.
Anyhow, I always watch the Big 12, 10, SEC and ACC games and have followed the BCS mess with OU, Texas and TTU this year. Don't know who should go to the championship game but I think OU and Texas are better teams than TTU as of today. Too bad OU and Texas couldn't play for the Big 12...whoever plays Mizzou will likely win by a good margin.
Good luck to your Sooners in the BCS!
Big win for my Broncos on the road against the NY Jets...plus San Diego lost so we're looking good in the weak AFC West.

I truly believe that soccer is a better sport than football and if anyone contests this, I dare them to run almost constantly for two 45-minute halves

I can't agree with soccer being better, they are both physically exhausting. I played both throughout school, soccer more. But, i can totally agree that soccer can wear you down. Running up and down that damn field game after game always hurt, especially in the cold. But it was worth it all for the MVP trophy!
Well well looks like OK is number 2. Hopefully your boys can beat Mizz and go against Alabama for the championship.

i've played both and i wouldn't say either is better..... they both have there "advantages" and "disadvantages" (soccer and football)
i will have to say though that i think the hardest sport out there is wrestling by far....
Try cutting 30 to 40 pounds in two or three weeks to get down to 7 percent body fat (the lowest allowed) and then be able to even stand up..... much less wrestle someone the same strength as you, i breaks down to technique and who wants to get there hand raised in the end more..... its a really mental sport, its all about who will break first
Wrestling is not the hardest sport out there, at least for me. I've been learning wushu in Beijing for 5 years and I must say that wushu kung fu is one of the hardest sport. Yeah i know wushu involves wrestling but the forms comprise basic movements are stances, kicks, punches, balances, jumps, sweeps and throws. You could be a bodybuilder, weight over 700 pounds and you will see yourself on the ground trying to beat someone who knows kung fu..
Dude that play Bradford did was one of those hold your breath and hope he isn't dead...LOL. At least when they chocked against Boise St. it was one of the best games in college football.

colligiant wrestling is the same way, that why i like it. I like sports that require more than just steroids to be a champ at. Obviously i'm not say lifting or getting big are a bad thing, i still like football obviously, but its refreshing to have sports where its not JUST about how hard you can hit someone but about what you know and how good your technique is.
you can put someone twice as strong as someone with good technique, and in wrestling the person with better technique will win everytime.

So true... truly an epic game with a fantastic finish. It really doesn't get much better than games like that. Even when not a fan of either team, you can appreciate how awesome the level of play from both teams was. Great to go back and watch it
People all over the world, let's have a chat about the wonderful game of football? Or soccer as the Americans call it?
I love it personally (obviously otherwise there would be no point to this thread!)
My home team is Stoke City FC, and yes, I know, we've been getting some real bad press lately ever since the unfortunate leg-break incident (which, I accept it was reckless and a really bad tackle, but absolutely not intentional!!)
Also, who do you think will win the World Cup this summer? I personally cannot wait for it!! Sitting in my garden in the sun, with a nice cold glass of Apple Cider, watching the World Cup on TV!
I'm excited by the world cup as well.....its so open this year as a number of great teams that could win it. Looking forward to sitting in the sun and watching it (on holiday during part of world cup)
Rick
p.s. I support Liverpool....been a bad season, hopefully with a better finish
well i am a barca fan, and play for my college football team.
dont really enjoy watching matches on tv....
i rather prefer to play.......
I'm a Norwich city fan and looking forward to the world cup almost as much as being promoted at the end of the season!

Rather play myself. Played college footie when I was at college and also play for local team (Whiteabbey swifts). My playing days (except 5-a-side) are over unfortunately due to age and family
A proud Galatasaray fan here. Must say that i started to lose faith in it cause of the riggings lately...
I'm not really into football, but still watch the world cup...
...an what's for sure: Germany will win!
I'm an Arsenal fan. Going on current form i'd say this years WC will go to either Brasil or Spain.
im a long standing arsenal fan...GO GUNNERSSSS
world cup is gonna be amazing but i think spain and england will once again underacheive and lose in either the quarters or semis. not sure who i want to win since france (i support them) doesnt look likely to win. I just want a great competition with lots of flair and goals
I am a Liverpool fan, good to see no one is slagging others here.

As for who will win the world cup....personally I think its open this year. A lot of strong teams and some of the bigger names under achieving (Italy, Argentina) in qualifiers.
Best bet would be one of the following........Brazil, Spain, England, Germany
One team which should be there is Ireland........what happened to Ireland was a disgrace IMHO......FIFA should be ashamed as well as France & Thiery Henry
I played football since I was 6 yeras old. Two days ago I returned from hospital after my first knee surgery and now I am waiting for second surgery. :/
Sometimes football can be really painfull.
BTW, lets see how will my home country(Slovakia) struggle on their first world cup.

We have a wee bit of rioting in Belfast this evening. There's a parade on somewhere or other. Got me thinking about rioting in general. We get a lot of it here. LAst summer was particularly bad with a lot of rioting around the city and around NI in general. this is a video from last year at Ardoyne. It doesn't kick of right away but it gets a bit out of hand. This one is quite tame. Afterwards a policewoman was seriously inured when a rioter through some concrete on her.
Belfast and Vancouver may be on different continents but they have the perennial riots in common. It's only 0.1% of each population though, while the rest look on thinking 'what a bunch of asshats'
It'll all change given, oh i don't know....300 years? Shame we won't be around to enjoy the peace!

good heavens! ur from belfast as well! the riots last summer was madness. thank god most of it was around Derry and North Belfast! just when you think people are matured enough to put the past behind them and move on! no wonder most of NI is a dump...lol
i was however stuck in the middle of the riots last year (if i remember right) along the lower windsor avenue when the polish supporters clashed with the local ones. 'twas a bloody affair i tell you. i actually pity the coppers in NI. poor guys are hated by both sides and have been putting up with sectarian s**t for too many decades now
If citizens were allowed to carry firearms it would pretty much stop the rioting. People are less inclined to do something that may get them killed....

I think it was summer of 2010 when there was that G20 riot in Toronto, then a few days ago the riot in Vancouver. It's so stupid, makes the rest of Canada looks bad and making others go what the hell. Seriously, who the hell does that to their own city? And you wonder what government's going to do with the money? Repair every single thing that was effing damaged.

rioting is one thing but the assassination in the antrim base, the cold blooded murder of the police officer in craigavon and the recent ones as well have taken things just a bit too far. what do they hope to achieve. yes i do know they are fighting for a cause, but blood baths isnt the answer.
It has really kicked off the last two nights with up to 500 on Monday night rioting and 700 last night. A photographer was shot in the leg last night, you can read the article here.
Shots have been fired by both sides of the community and there is very little the police can do without being heavy handed. This is putting such a negative slant on Northern Ireland which is a fantastic little country.
Let's face it, humans don't need a reason to be violent. They just need an excuse.

TL;DR

sent from inside big and outside small.
Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," in accordance with the Armistice, signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 a.m.) World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. [1]
The day was specifically dedicated by King George V on 7 November 1919 as a day of remembrance for members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I. This was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917.[2]
The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields". These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

Thank you to all the soldiers who fought for us so that we never got hurt, and thank you to those who are serving at the moment in war torn countries like Afghanistan. We can never pay you back the debt of respect we owe you, and thank you again for your braveness.

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England’s overthrow.
But, by God’s providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James’s sake!
If you won’t give me one,
I’ll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn’orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
I hope we all had our 2 minutes silence at 11am, watched it on the TV here. Google has a nice little poppy too.
On the 11/11, we will remember them.

Yes, watched it on TV this year as I'm at home helping to look after my Mum following her hip operation. As per usual, my Dad has gone up to the village church suited, with his medals on, to do the reading on behalf of ex-servicemen and -women.

Remembrance Day isn't related in any way to Guy Fawkes. That particular commemoration was November 5th. Remembrance Day is the 11th, although the Sunday after is when people usually gather at memorials. This year the two coincide.
My step father is ex-army and plays the Bugle at the local British Legion today.
My total respect to those past, present, and future heroes that serve to protect our nations, and our freedoms from those who wish to steal them from us!
God bless my father, MY hero, who passed away some years back:
Korean War Vet
US Army
50th AAA
My favorite, the Sherman!
Always loved the Sopwith Camel
Oh the music, when a P51 (or a Spitfire) flies by overhead!
1. Veterans deserve a lot more than they currently receive (hopefully some of the veteran related amendments wind up passing, particularly the one related to their spouses).
2. I'm not here to troll, but telling me I'm not "allowed" like you are somehow above me definitely makes me want to.
