Hey guys, how can I transfer my contacts from my nextel i760 to the att tilt? I have data cables for both, and the i760 has a sim card. Since they are two different networks, however, I don't want to risk damaging my tilt by placing the nextel sim card inside of it. Please help.
connect your nextel phone on your computer, user activesync + nextel software to download your contacts from your phone. Using the nextel software export your contacts to a .csv file.
Now using outlook import your .csv file to your addressbook, connect your tilt and sync it.
Nextel Software? im afraid I dont have any. Im on a mac too, so things are a bit complicated when it comes to modding stuff.
Nextel uses a IDEN phone book manger and you wont be able to sent it like that
get the phone book manger from Motorolas site load your contacts then copy and paste it to outlook and sync your tilt with it
using nextell service on tilt
i have my tilt unlocked, code provided by att international thanks to other forums how to unlock tilt. and i have tried inserting the nextell sim card to the tilt phone with the messege saying no service and no ptt service.
is there a way to make it so i can use the tilt with the us nextell service?
currently running the rom stock. but will be udgrading after i find the way to to use nexdtell service if at all posible.
thanks.
hi im really interestd in using my tilt as a nextel phone, how can i do that?

Nextel uses CDMA signal as well as Verizon. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. You won't be able to use a Verizon / Nextel Sim card in a AT&T or T-Mobile phone.

Is unlocking my tilt the only way to get my old contacts off my sprint sim card?
Or, is there a device that will actually work and let me simply copy them over?

Google is your friend and being this is your first post here ill be nice .......
http://www.dekart.com/products/hardware/sim_card_reader/
That should get you started. Also, does your old sprint phone have a sync cable or bluetooth? you could transfer the contacts by syncing it to the computer first then back to the Tilt . . . . .
LOL thank you for being nice....... Google IS my friend
Yeah I tried that already but sadly, its a Nextel phone not even a sprint so It uses that crappy IDEN stuff......It created a backup of my contacts as a text document, but I couldn't get Outlook to import the file into the contacts.......correctly. I wanted to possibly, sim unlock, then just put the old sim in, copy the sim contacts to the tilt, then take it out and put my ATT sim back in
When your device isnt unlocked you cant use the other sim card. when its unlocked you can. And this is how you can swap contacts.........Go to programs --> sim manager. I think that will solve your problem.
WIM26
He already knows unlocking will let him use the sim. His question was is there any way OTHER than unlocking to do this. Frrrrrrunkis What format did it export the file as? Am i to understand youre able to read the contacts using the document? You could always make an XML spreadsheet and copy/paste into the appropriate fields ( business , cell , home , Name, ect ) then try to import the contacts int outlook ......
LMAO!! Thank you all for your help. And now for a little shameful self-bashing!!!
Google is my friend!!!! I did a little digging and found a firmware update for my old Motorola I870, hooked it up to the PC Via USB cable and it updated the phone. Once that happened I was able to send my contacts via bluetooth to my new toy, the Tilt. I still want to get it unlocked though and will probably call that number I saw posted on here somewhere.
I assume of course, that the sim unlock is a diffrent one than the CID unlock(if I am reading previous posts correctly)
Yes SIM and CID unlock are two different things.
Just an FYI to anyone who is also looking to do this. Best Buy Mobile offers free phonebook transfers even if you don't buy anything. They have a tool that can read from old phones and/or SIM cards and transfer the contacts to just about anything.
And a second FYI... Sprint and Verizon do not use SIM cards.

Well, sadly my job still uses them, but now I get a company supplied cheapo instead of paying out of pocket for it................so I got me the Tilt!
I recently sold my Unlocked AT&T HTC 8925 with HTC ROM. I've been using it on Tmobile network for a year with no issues.
The guy i sold it too is on CENTENNIAL WIRELESS in Norther Indiana. When he puts in his sim card it says SIM MISSING. when he does auto config, it says something about not being able to find operator or something. When he goes to connection set up and disable auto config....CENTENNIAL is not in his list of operators. It only shows ATT, TMOBILE, and CAROLINA.
are we missing something on making this phone work??
thanks!!
Anyone have a clue on what to do ???
i once had the same issue
i bought 3 tilts and one of them wouldn't recognize the sim. All you have to do is push down on the metal band that holds the sim in place until it pushes down on the sim when its in place. Probably, the problem is that the sim isn't making good contact with the metal connector thingies on the phone. So, just take out the sim, push down on the band a bit, slide the sim back in, and turn on your phone. That should fix it. Other than that... i have no idea besides trying a different radio.

PHone works just fine with a Tmo sim card. He tried a friends Centennial sim and it recognized it.
Sounds like there is something wrong with his SIM
my dads house gets ZERO SERVICE but i am 99 percent sure that AT&T gets fair coverage there. i have tried to connect to AT&T's service but my sim card doesnt support it. i did some reasearch and have found that in order to register on AT&T's network, i need an unlocked sim card. only problem is, are there any charges that follow with doing that? and will T-MO just unlock it because i ask them too?
Just call them and tell them you are going out of the country and need an unlock code.
Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=474144
ok the reason i wanna unlock it is to
connect to at and t's service at my dads house because he doesnt get any service there. so if i unlock it, will i be able to connect to at and t's service for free?
yes i read the thread and searched so dont get mad if this is a normal/ noobish question.

If you currently have T-Mobile then you need an AT&T Sim card to place in your G1. When you boot it will come up saying Unregistered Sim and will ask for a SIM Unlock code. After you enter the code you will be able to use the AT&T Sim card in your G1. You will NOT have data unless you change the APN's. Contact AT&T for that information or search for AT&T APN information.
If you ask T-Mobile for the SIM unlock code they are likely going to ask you to clearify. There is a sim lock (which protects your text messages and contacts) and it is programmed in your sim card. Then there is the NETWORK lock (or subsidy code) which will allow your phone to be used on almost any network. You need the SUBSIDY lock. Not the sim unlock.
To qualify for the SUBSIDY code for T-Mobile contact them by calling the toll free number. Do not call them from the phone because they will need the IMEI.
1) You need to be on a non-prepaid plan for at least 90 days of active and uninterrupted service. If yes, go to 2.
2) Call T-Mobile Customer Care from landline and give them the IMEI of the G1.
3) If you give them a valid reason for having it unlocked then they will submit a request and you should get your subsidy unlock code in about 72 hours via e-mail. BTW... telling them you want it unlocked so that you can use a competitors service is probably not the best request.
4) Once you've aqcuired the subsidy code, boot up your G1 with the AT&T SIM inside and enter the code provided in your e-mail from T-Mobile.
5) Contact AT&T for the APN information or find it here on XDA (search).
6) Enter the APN information by:
On home screen press MENU
Go to SETTINGS
Go to WIRELESS CONTROLS
Go to MOBILE NETWORKS
Go to ACCESS POINT NAMES
Press MENU
Select NEW APN
Fill in the blanks
You will never have to enter the subsidy code for your G1 again (even after a wipe or flashing to another ROM.)
NOTE: If you can't get the code from T-Mobile there are services on the web that will unlock for a fee. These usually range about $20 or so. There is no cost from getting it from T-Mobile should you qualify. Good luck.

ok thank you all so much, but some final questions,
ok so i can just call at and t and tell them that i would be interested in getting my phone unlocked because at my dads house t mobile doesnt get service, but they do, and i want to connect to their service?
also should i just visit the closest at and t store to do this?
if i have an at and t sim in will my billing and account info stay they same? like my plan wont change and t mobile would still be my mobile network even thoughi have an at and t sim card?
and i know i am planning on telling them that i am going overseas for 2 weeks for a vacation. that seems to work with these dudes.
P.S.!
will AT&T want me to sign a contract with them if i ask for one of their sim cards??? i just thought of that. i dont want a contract with them! lol. will they (AT&T) charge me for when i use their sim card and network?

Is this a serious question? If you were AT&T would you let someone use your network for free?
You might be able to use a pay-as-you-go AT&T SIM card in an unlocked G1. Not 100% sure about it so don't quote me on that.
fml i wasnt thinking
i totally overlooked that fact. dang
unlocking the phone will allow you to use pre paid sims with att as well
and you might be able to get a month by month contract with them (not sure of their available plans) either way google should show you the way

I just got an SX66 and my current carrier is AT&T. I put my SIM card in the SX66 and cant get it to make any calls what so ever. Any Ideas please?
Windows Mobile v 4.21.1088 (Build 15005.1.2.1)
ROM 1.33.10 WWE
Radio: 1.02.10
Thanks!
welcome to the forum!
could you describe your problem a little further? is the sim card rejected, then you might want to sim unlock your device, a tool for that can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Unlock_Sim
The phone does not reject the SIM. It just wont connect to the AT&T network. Ive tried the unlocker and it dosnt work since the it recognizes the SIM. Ive seen everyone unlocking it for other services, but no one for AT&T so far.

Umm, last I looked, the unlocker programs don't care about the carrier you are on or trying to use, unless you are trying to lock the phone to a specific carrier.
The SX66 was originally sold by AT&T, so you shouldn't need to unlock it, unless someone locked it to another carrier.
Basic steps (not trying to insult anyone here):
Are you sure it's an SX66?
Does the SIM work any other phones? Which ones?
When you put your SIM in the phone and boot it, what does the display show? Any error messages?
Does the aerial icon at the top of the screen show any bars?
Checked the comm manager to make sure the phone isn't starting in airplane mode?
Also, unless I'm remembering incorrectly, that device is using the original OS, you might want to look into upgrading that ROM and radio stack.
I just upgraded the ROM to windows Mobile 6.5, and yes it is a Cingular branded SX66. The SIM card works in my AT&T LG Neon. It searches for the carrier, and just displays the exclamation point next to the antenna. The SIM is a blue and white AT&T card, with 3g on it.
And thanks for all the help.

Hmmm...
Potential issues:
Band coverage: Of the three bands the LG supports, the angel covers them, so non-issue
SIM type: This might be a problem. Mind you, I've not been an AT&T customer in years but I have heard of this kind of thing happening, where the SIM is a 3G-only SIM (not the case here as the LG isn't a 3G phone).
Making some guesses here...
The phone doesn't complain about not being able to read the SIM, but it can't associate with a tower. It might be the SIM just being too new and the angel hardware doesn't quite know how to deal with it. You wouldn't happen to have another SIM to test it with, or know someone with an older SIM or different carrier that you might be able to drop in the SX and see? It is possible that the hardware is just dead, but without other SIMs to test with, it's hard to say.
I know that I had a friend that had an AT&T SIM that went in a 3G phone. He borrowed my old T-Mo 2G Nokia (unlocked, of course) when his AT&T phone was pinched, and the Nokia couldn't deal with the AT&T SIM very well, and wouldn't register on the network.
Have you upgraded to the latest radio available, or is it still running the original? Remember, most ROMs do not have the radio stack as part of the upgrade image, it's a separate process.
(I really should look for parts for my angel and bring it back to full production level for nostalgia if nothing else. Sadly, it's got a flashing LED for the charging indicator at the moment, I think the battery I have is truly dead. I will have to look for the spare I had laying around.)
Ok, trying to upgrade the radio to 1.15 and it keeps giving me the ERROR 100: Model ID error. IS it because I upgraded the ROM to WM 6.5? And is there any way I can install the radio ROM with out downgrading?

Wow, it's been a while since I looked at flashing a radio ROM on the BA... There appears to be multiple ways now. Have you followed the directions in the wiki, available here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Radio_1.15_Upgrade
Ok, so I upgraded the radio to 1.15 finally. And still, no connectivity with my SIM.
UPDATE: Just tried a T-Mobile SIM from my friends G1 and was able to make calls and connect. So Its must be my SIM card, for some reason....
EDIT: I just soft reset it with my AT&T SIM card in, and now it says that its connected to Cingular, however, I cannot make calls or send text messages.

Sorry for the delay...
Hmm, interesting... Well since it worked with TMo, I don't think that the phone itself is bad. It looks like it's something with your SIM. You could try a different one (know anyone else on AT&T?), or check with the AT&T store and see if a rep can look up what info they have on the phone and swap out your SIM with one that is known to work with the phone.
Right now, that's all I can think of. If I think of anything else, I'll followup, but I do think that it's your SIM that is causing the issue at this point. I've never heard of anyone having to do anything special with one of those to allow calls to be made, much less send text messages (not picture messages, which do require some setup).
Hi all
This is hopefully the last factor in deciding whether I will get the HD7 or not.
I read on cellhub that you have to "Activate on Delivery". What does this mean? Can you not use the phone before it is activated or does it only need to be activated on T-Mobile if you are using it on T-Mobile?
Thanks again.

not sure what that is, mine arrived, poped in the sim, had touns of trouble with importing contacts, but once I got past that, the phone works just fine out of the box.
Im Tmobile USA.
now using the empty OS it self is a whole other issue
If you mean an iPhone like iTunes dependent activation there is none. Just pop the sim in and you are ready to go. In fact, I didn't even entered a SIM when I first opened it
Ok, great, thanks very much.
Were you two both on contracts or prepaid?
I will be purchasing the phone and then using it in South Africa so I don't want it to get here only to find out that it has to be activated with a T-Mobile sim card
You mean unlocked/locked phone. If you bought yourself an unlocked phone there shouldn't be any problem with your SIM . Just as I did
No, I know I'll need to unlock it.
I want to know if the actual phone has to be activated by T-Mobile before it can be used.
Do I require cables, software or any technical knowledge?
Unlocking your HTC phone by HTCimeiUnlock.com is very simple. You don't need any cables, software or technical knowledge. All you have to do in order to unlock your phone is to switch it on with a not allowed SIM card and simply use your phone's keypad to enter the eight digit unlock code provided by us!
