Hey everyone, I just flashed the HTC Kaiser ROM on my Tilt and it works wonderfully, big thanks to pof and others who are making these type of things possible, donations are on the way by dinner time this evening, I give u my word!
From past experience with the TyTN, having 3G connection on at all times as opposed to just EDGE, seriously kills battery life. So I thought I could just go to the comm manager and toggle 3G off, but the option is not there. There's a Data Toggle on/off, but that seems to turn off my data connection all together. I just want the phone to use EDGE for periodically checking emails, and to use 3G when I need that type of bandwith(eg, Skype and web surfing). Is there anyway for me to have that 3G Toggle on/off switch again? It just now hit me that the ROM I was using at the time was a cooked ROM, so it might not be available until the great chefs get there properly tools.
Hmm....I was just wondering, any help on this is greatly appreciated.
DHR Bandswitch works perfekt on my Kaiser

Band page
Is there a way to get the Band Page to display on phone settings? The registry settings from the Hermes don't seen to work.

The Advanced Configuration tool allowed me to use the 3G switch instead of the PTT setting on the Comm Manager. It doesn't have any icons though. :-(

And you can get these tools in this thread:

Also if you read some of the msgs, you'll find how to use it.
I think that here is what you want.

Niiccee....that's the one. Actually, I started using the JUV comm manager that's also found on that link, thank I appreciate the help.
Or you could use start/settings/phone/band and switch "select your network type" from Auto to GSM.
This will stop 3G working until you switch back to auto!

Hi there,
I am not sure if this is due to the German MDA Vario III Rom, but indeed if you go to Communcations Manager and you can switch the Data Connection On and Off, but even better, if I go to "Settings", then "Phone Settings" I have a Tab what says "Band" and there I am able to use "Auto" (GSM/EDGE and UMTS) or GSM/Edge.
Again, this is to be found on the German MDA Vario III ROM.
Cheers
Mike

No Band page by default on the Tilt. Registry settings from Hermes (or Advanced Configuration) do not work on the Tilt.
Still hunting for how the hell you do this on the Tilt.

Why don't you just flash with the HTC Rom assuming this one has the "Band Tab"?
Mike
The 10 button with 3g in this link seems to work as well.
EDIT: You'll need the registry fix for Wifi for this to work. Details here.

Not ready to take the leap yet. Want to see how others do with it first. Also, there will be several excellent Hermes cooks flocking this way to cook for the Kaiser - some who specialize in starting with the at&t base ROMs.
Plus i would like to learn the differences in registry settings between the two.

So far I like Schen's 10 button comm manager the best.

I just use the Comm Manager (which comes with the Diamond phone), you can toggle bluetooth, WiFi, 3G or GSM, Flight mode, etc. all within.

Hands down.
Try this: Effcomm
its so simple its the best
only issue is that sometimes after soft reset it won't show on today screen and you must go into today settings, uncheck and check the effcomm today plugin and it'll show again

AeButtonplus
AEButton Plus works great for me. YOu can program enough of the keys to do numberous jobs. Turn on and off wifi, bluetooth, almost anything assigned to any button.
wow, thanks for the good find! Now I can remap soft key to just plain Bluetooth toggle On & Off. Cool.
i've got trouble with the effcomm
what came out on my today screen was a jumble of overlapping wifi, bluetooth and radio words.
And i'm kinda looking for icon-based kinda program (or anything that can be configured on rltoday) =x
I know this is an old thread, but I wonder if there is anything similar to Effcomm out there that also allows toggling of GPS.
Hi guys, basically I have the MDA IV version and am going abroad and would like to use GoogleEarth, but not the GPRS, mainly because I don't want to be stung with a huge bill!
I've searched high and low on how to switch off the GPRS but no success, any help will be much appreciated

Bad news, you can't use Google Maps WITHOUT and internet connection of some kind, the only way to do it would be to put the phone into "flight mode" and find a WiFi access point.
Reason being the maps on Google Maps are not stored on the device, they are downloaded only when needed.
.G.
The only way I can think of to switch off the data connection would be to delete the connections in the Settings > Connections > Connections section.
Maybe the tiny app. called NoData is the thing you need.

Correct answer you can block GPRS with this program and it will not turn on automaticly again. You have to do it by hand. Google maps you have to use then by wifi.
Grtzzzz
just installed the NODATA app, works like a charm! shame i can't use google earth though,
cheers all!
Hi,
I have a small problem which I hope there already is a solution to.
When I use the GPRS/Edge it costs me about $3/MB so of course I don't want to use it when not necessary.
The problem is that when using Wifi if the connection is lost the phone can switch to GPRS/Edge without me knowing which can be expensive. Is there a program or setting of some sort so I have to "press ok" each time I want to use GPRS?
I can change the settings so I always use Wifi but then I have to change the settings every time I want to use GPRS.
In short:
Default should be Wifi and if Wifi is not available I want the phone to switch to GPRS after I have "pressed ok".
There is an app called 'NoData' which will totally disable GPRS for you.
Of course, when you want to use the GPRS, you simply toggle it back on and away you go.
Can't remember where I found it now, but it's around the site somewhere. Maybe search in the development and hacking forum??
I believe it is also built in to some of the custom ROMs already.
indeed, its called nodata from modaco...
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
I know this has been asked a million times, I just bought a used tilt from a co-worker. I do not have any data plans, and just want to use wi-fi.
I installed modaco nodata, and kaiser tweak.
In Nodata I have:
at&t isp gprs - disabled
media net - disabled
my connection - enabled
kaiser tweak:
I also have pretty much all the data options disabled.
Now I am still a little paranoid, because when I wake up my phone the 3G logo shows for a few seconds. Is this just a little bug or is 3G on? I just want to be absolutely sure I am not going to get any data charges.
Thanks!
if your talking about the AT&T 3g video at startup, then that comes standard on the phone as a bootscreen. Also when I installed NoData to my phone a while back the 3G logo was still there but I tested it and I couldnt connected to the internet. However, be warned with the Medianet disabled you won't be able to receive picture messages.
No not the animation, just the little 3G icon in the top right where it shows your connection.

I have been using Modaco Nodata for over a year and it never let me down. I don't see why you should have to worry.
Thanks for the reassurance, now does your 3G Icon still show. I noticed it was on the whole time I was in my car with no wifi around.

the reason you see the 3g sign is because that means 3g is available, it does NOT mean you are connected to the net. If the location supports hsdpa than you will see H.
question answered, plus redundant thread. Thread closed.
Hey everyone. I live in a fairly rural area but work in Atlanta. Would there be any benefit to disabling HSDPA battery wise? In the office the only connection I seem to get is Edge and at home I get 3g (Ironically)
Install Schap's Communications Manager. It has a button to turn off 3G services. You can also enable the selection if you use Advanced Configurator 3.3.

Schaps fails with insufficient permissions.
EDIT: Advanced config installed ok after the comm manager didnt so I am good to go, thanks.
funny, 2 responses (now three) but no answer to your question. I'm curious too. How much does 3g drain the battery more than Edge?
