I'm confused. My IE instance quite happily connects to my 3G t-mobile connection when no connections are enabled. However, when I enable the WiFi - the little mast icon says connected... but IE can't find anything. I'm assuming its a DNS issue. I've tried disabling MAC address security, and it made 0 difference to the failure to connect - so I'm assuming the MAC address I typed into my router was the right one. (Can't even find the TyTnII MAC address now!)
So - what do I need to do to ensure that the TytnII loads the WiFi connection when at home, and actually allows me to surf? I tried putting in the router address as DNS - and it didnt make any difference either. What next? Too many options!!!!

If its over a wep network(which it probably is) you need the key(passcode)...
Nope - got that - (and it only prompted for the passkey once - so I guess it stored it somewhere). Its got something to do with DNS - because it cannot resolve names (like google.com!) - but I don't know how to check this out. Are thetre tools like TRACEROUTE / IPCONFIG etc for WM6??
Graham
Try removing any proxy servers that might be configured.
Go to settings/connections/wi-fi and tap your connected Wireless Network to configure. In next screen check if "Connects to:" is set to "The Internet" . If set to "Work" IE will use your 3G dataconnection. When set to "The Internet" IE will use your WI-FI connection. When you are outdoor and your home WI-FI connection is not available IE will then automaticly use your 3G connection again.
Hope this helps as it works this way with me.

I am having this same problem , did you manage to sort yours out ?
Does your WiFi network use a proxy to get to the internet?

Yep - I reset my wireless router - and everything started working. Looking in the wrong place as always!

And how do you connect to public wi-fi spots without havin TyTN try to connect over 3G?
Thanks

Hi.
I recently bought my s730. Quite pleased with it, but one thing bothers me.
When i connect to my wlan at home (zyxel_2602hw_d1a WPA-PSK TKIP) i'm able to connect to the router, but I don't seem to be able to get an connection to anywhere outside my own network. I tried using Live Messenger, IE, Opera and Skype, but nothing happens.
When I'm using GPRS or EDGE it all works smoothly.
Any suggestions?
Do you have your connection set to automatic or only through your phone network? I have seen a few problems with that.
Also, double check that you are entering wep or any other security protocol correctly, took my 6 tries before it would work, it looked like it was connected to the network but it really wasnt (just personal experience with this phone.)

I do have the connection settings in both IE and Opera set to automatic. I's there somewhere else I have to change settings?
I'm quite sure i typed the password correctly. I also checked the client list on the router and the phone showed up correctly.
Gah, cant remember where I saw it but there was a setting in the phone itself for what to connect to.
Another thing to try under the wifi connection open your saved connection and go into it and see if you have it set to connect to the internet or just to the private network under "network type" in the Wi-Fi sub menu of Wlan settings. Its late and I cant think right, i'll see about checking more into it later...
I solved this problem - change your WLAN security on your WLAN router only on exactly MAC adressee (no any WEP) and your Wings is allowed to connect and all will be OK, work OK - Skype, IE, Opera. Problem was only to find MAC adressee my Wings
Wing + WRT54GL
Hi!
I have an S730 and a Linksys WRT54GL router. I've tried to use wlan with my phone, but it doesn't working. I want to use WPA2 with AES without Radius. Is the WPA shared key (router) same to network key(phone)? without security and encryption, it's working well.. I cannot see any syslog. That could be so easy..

I tried removing security for my phone MAC address, but there dosn't seem to be any options on my router allowing this. So I'm still stuck;-/

Did you check network settings? I mean e.g. if you don't use DHCP server and you didn't fill in right settings phone may connect to network but may not get outside. I know it can look like "lame" question, but sometimes even a master can do a newbie mistake..

usually it is in section WLAN Advanced setup - WEP Encryption - disable and in WLAN MAC Filters - active + allow asotiation with table of adress your Wings - aply . I have Zyxel Prestige 660HW.
I'm sure that DHCP is active, and that I get an IP.
I tried disabling security on my router, but same problem. Connects to my router, gets an IP but still nothing works

Your DNS are also provided automatically? Or could you ping (through some app) to any IP address of any server on the internet? If you succee, then we can look for a mistake with DNS.
Problem solved!!!
Okay. Found the cause for all my sufferings...
Power management. under WLAN-settings i changed power setting from power save mode to best performance...
thanks for all the help. hope next time I have a better question
wifi problem
hello everybody,i have tried several times to connect to my router at home but no chance at the end i got this warning saying:
cannot log on to the wireless network this network requires a personel certificate to positively identify you.
Help!
I have a Netgear DG834T router as provided by Sky. I have one wired and two wireless connections running into it (let's call them WD, WL1 and WL2 respectively).
On the connections page I can see all of them under "attached devices"...but now I want to connect using my Kaiser (actually an O2 XDA Stellar)
What happens...
On the Kaiser, I get an IP address (assigned by DHCP) as normal - but can't access the internet - or at least, can only access it very rarely - http://www.google.com can't be found, but http://www.bbc.co.uk can. No idea why.
On the router, under "attached devices", not only can I NOT see the Kaiser, but WL1 and WL2 also disappear. WD remains visible. The router cannot ping the IP address of the Kaiser (timed out). If I disable WiFi on the Kaiser, then WL1 and WL2 are immediately visible again. Internet connection on WL1 and WL2 works, even when they are not visible.
I HAVE connected to this network before without any problems.
What the hooting heck is going on, and how do I fix it?
Thanks!
Time to troubleshoot! What happens with this phone on another wireless network. We need to determine if it's the phone or the network. Do you have any friends with a phone like this? Can you use their phone on your network? Do you have any ROMs flashed, has this phone ever been on the network without problems?
If the phone works on another router try looking for firmware updates for the router. Those things really do need to be updated often and it could have something to do with that.
Only have access to one network :-(. Might be a couple of weeks before I can access a hotel one or something like that.
Think next door neighbour has similar phone, but different provider...will try if he'll let me!
No ROMS flashed.
It connected fine when I first had it. As far as I know, I've changed nothing since then.
2 out of 4 answered...with an option on three...I'll get back to you as soon as I've beaten up my neighbour and stolen his phone...
Joke!
There should be somewhere you can go to test that wireless. I can walk outside the building I'm in and find one.

You = US, me = UK. We still think the biro is a recent invention...
Neighbour's phone on my network gives the exact same problem. I've also noticed that when I click "Renew IP" on the Kaiser it doesn't work...it gives me 0.0.0.0, but will occasionally flash up the correct IP address. It's alomst as if the connection is being lost and remade every few seconds. The status ist gives me is "associated to network"...is that different to "connected"?
I've been trying to solve this on my router, but none of the settings seem to make any difference.
Same here
I get the same with the router from sky.
Kaiser says I have an IP address, 192.168.0.5, but the it doesn't show up on the attached devices on the router.
What I find that works is hit renew IP maybe twice until you get a really wierd IP address like
169.254.*.**, actually not sure if I'm picking up another network, but for some reason I don't think I am.
I can then browse the web and sync via wifi.
Really pisses me of that it says that it has an IP address but doesn't connect.
1) Make sure you dont have a proxy set up on your wifi connection on your device.
2) The 169. address is your device getting an unauthorised IP address as the router did not receive the correct encryption key from the device.
3) You can check if its an encryption thing by simply logging in to the router (192.168.0.1 in your web browser on pc) and changing the settings to turn wpa off and testing it. The routers username and password are on the card - its something like "sky" and "admin"
Yeah I agree, there is something up with that router.

No, proxy set-up as the device was bought unbranded in US.
Because there are issues with this router, encryption and media streaming devices, I have only restricted the mac addresses with no encryption.
Still don't know about the 169. ip address beacuse doesn't seem to come up as am ISP.
Now then, how wierd is this?
After all these issues and kind of giving up on it as a bad job, I also noticed that out on the road, my GPRS wasn't working either - TomTom couldn't connect to the "plus" traffic service.
I get on the phone to O2 who told me that my phone hadn't been "provisioned". After one false start where they didn't seem to do anything about it, I have just (literally) had them tell me to go to the O2 Operator settings and tell it to update the "O2 UK Post Pay_GPRS" and reboot.
GPRS now works. And magically, so does my WiFi - IP address negotiated and full access to internet and my router's setup page granted. Working like a charm again.
So - seems to me it's an account setting, and nothing to do with either me poor ol' router or me nice new phone.
For completeness, I was occasionally getting the 169 IP address too, so it sounds like we have EXACTLY the same problem - suggest you get onto your service provider ASAP.
Hi guys!
I have a Touch Diamond 2. It's great and certainly an upgrade from my Touch Cruise!
I have a strange problem though. Whenever I try to connect through 3G (T-Mobile Netherlands), immediatly after it makes the connection, it gives the dialog 'cannot connect etc'. 3G is truly connected but no data is coming in.
Now I have found where the problem lies, sort of. 3G works fine when I don't configure my home Wifi connection. Whenever I configure that, 3G stops working. It doesn't matter if Wifi is turned on or off. 3G does have a dynamic ip, where my Wifi connection requires a static IP. But I make all these settings in the Wifi part of the configuration screen, the IP details are under the 802.11 b/g network card.
This used to work flawlessy on my Cruise. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!
good morning. as you are with tmobile i'd suggest you are having the same problems as me with tmobile uk. for some reason tmobile sets up a proxy server in your 3g data connection setup, this caused huge problems for me but clearing it solved them all.
try this first and see how you go.
Possible, but where exactly do I change the proxy settings of the 3G connection?

Hey that's a coincidence, just read the same question at GoT
I have similar problems.
Now and than my HSDPA connection works good, but at some moment I just can't reach any website.
Disconnecting and reconnecting to HSDPA sometimes helps, and sometimes I just have to wait a few minutes and than it works again.
I also tried another DNS (OpenDNS) but it doesn't solve the problem,
Proxy settings can be found at (I assume your dutch):
Instellingen> Meer> Verbindingen> Verbindingen> Mijn proxyserver instellen
At my TD2 is no proxy set, so thats not the cause.
Hope sombody else can help!
Do you have a static IP for WIFI as well? I kinda found out that setting WIFI on dynamic IP solves the 3G problem, so somehow they must be connected. But this should be able to work, it's almost as if 3G 'takes over' the static IP from the WIFI settings, but the connection settings from my 3G are offcourse set to dynamic.
I had exactly the same problem with my D2. I also had it on my Cruise with the later ROMs. The official HTC 6.1 ROM did not have this problem.
I experience it when I set up my wifi 802.11b/g network card in the phone to have a static IP address and set the default gateway. If I use DHCP there is no problem.
Setting the wifi card up on the phone DEFINITELY screws up the cellular data connection.

I use a dynamic IP, for me it doesn't work.
With my dear old Wizard (MDA Vario) I had no problem at all with the same settings!
yup thought i was the only one with this problem need a fix for it soon man otherwise we are gettin bumped for not havin the settings coz we on t-mobile
I solved it temporarily by setting Wifi to dynamic IP, but this prevents me from connecting at work. I'll send HTC an e-mail, let's see if they are willing to hot-fix this one
for me i find that the web sites work but any app that requires to go online ie facebook, msn, sky fire etc jus dont work wen you try to connect online......... stupid t-mobile
My connection problems are gone.
Maybe I (we) encountered hickups with the T-Mobile proxy-server....
maybe You can help me.
I have a MDA V (germany T-Mobile) and i can not connect to my AP here at Home.
I have a ASUS WL500g configured as AP behind my Firewall/Router. All other device in my house, a Laptop, a Netbook and a 'WII' working fine!
All get the IP from the Router, the AP works transparent.
D2 will not connect. The Mac-Address from the D2 is configured in the AP, and i can see the router statuspage and see the MAC of the D2 sometimes in the list. But only as "associated" and never as "associated authorized" as the Laptop here in example:
-------------------------------------------------
Stations List:
-------------
00:23:76:yy:xx:xx associated <-D2
00:1C:BF:yy:xx:xx associated authorized <- Laptop
--------------------------------------------------
I configured a lot in the settings, but i cant get the D2 online with wifi.
Can someone plz help a bit?
-
other question: if i manage the problem some day, is it possible to configure the Networksettings of the D2 device in the way that the device only use USB and te WiFI-Connection to access the internet? I hat it that the device use mobile-internet connection without asking me to do so.
Same problem

I was experiencing the same problem, only with the difference that I am using 3 different Wi-Fi adapter settings every day (for 3 different networks - two with fixed IP and one with DHCP enabled. Most elegant solution that I came up with was a small, but very handy application called "WiFi Profiles". Settings for WiFi adapter are easily changed by choosing a profile that you want to use and applying it. Before you disconnect from WiFi network, you just set adapter to DHCP, and after that your GPRS/3G/HSDPA connection works like a charm. By the way, I am proud owner of Touch HD but I am using Dutty`s Topaz based rom V3.4 XTREME SHIP.
Hello,
I am new to Xperia X1, just for 2 days. I am trying set up internet connection over WIFI, but no success after several hours of configuration.
- I have original rom, no extra apps installed yet
- I made factory reset on my airlive router and made only necessary setup checking then with notebook(win os) which connect to inet properly everytime..
- I can connect to AP from X1
- I can see IP served by DHCP in X1
BUT I cannot open and display any internet webpage in explorer nor running i.e. google maps preinstalled application which need internet connection. In explorer I can see messages as "connecting", "retrieving" and then "page not found" .. (in czech language) I tried in X1 explorer open only "IP" webpage but no success (if DNS in X1 fail). I tried WPA and non secure connection with AP, X1 connect fine, does not matter wireless type connection, but internet does not work.. I also tried setup IP GW DNS etc manually and it did not help..
Internet over GPRS is fine.
I have already no more ideas how make alive this basic and most important function in X1. You know, I expect tap "next", "next" and "done"
Could you help me or give some tip(s)?
Thanks a lot !
settings->connections->connections->advanced->select network
in the dropdownbox's pick
my homenetwork or what ever the non isp connection is named on your setup
and thats pretty much it
if you want to use gprs again change it back
I removed SIM card and switched off phone module avoid internet over gprs and I spent some time with your tip, but it does not work for me :-( I think I already tried all combinations, ipconfig on x1 would probably help..
sounds like it's an issue with your wifi router then
I would try another router somewhere
and update the router firmware they release fixed firmware for routers once in awhile
also just turning off the router for 10sec and turning it back on
that does the trick for me when my hdcp function in my router gets confused
and refuse to let my x1 and ipod connect
of cause I have the latests firmware in the router
next progress: I had coffee in restaurant with free wifi hotspot and I was able connect to internet on 1st try.. No extra configuration on X1 was needed..
so there must be problem at my home with:
1) Access point Airlive wl-5460
2) ADSL Router cellpipe from lucent
As I mentoined I made factory reset on accesspoint and several times disconnect it from electricity which did not help. I will try connect my AP to some friend's network outside home. I believe this is step how I could find device which do not like my new X1. btw I guess it will be adsl router..
wish me luck..
solved: wl5460 upgrade e8 -> e17
and it work great!

i have already tried that before, as i mentioned too that wifi connects but i cant open any web page on the device
where have you entered the proxy settings?
1. if the wifi connects, you should be able to ping the machines on the LAN that your device has "entered". first make sure this works.
2. for internet to work, the general convention for network admins is to set up a network with a gateway. however, it seems that your network admins have used the proxy approach (probably to better control/filter the content accessed by users on the LAN)...i am not certain where exactly the proxy information needs to be entered on your device for things to work properly but if the answer for (1) above was positive, then my money is on incorrect proxy settings on your device.
