Tilt pricing question - thoughts? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have two options through the Premiere site:
1) 'Upgrade Device Only' for $399. This will keep my original plan, including my $20/month Medianet unlimited data plan. I think it will extend my contract by two years.
2) Select the device and a new data plan (~$34/month for the FAN discounted unlimited data PDA plan) and get the phone for $275, plus potentially $100 in rebates. This would obviously also renew the contract by two years.
Throw in taxes and option 2 is about $250 cheaper than option 1. However, my new data plan would be $14/month more. Over the two year contract, this would be an additional $336 in data plan charges! So plan 2 would cost about $86 more over the two year contract. However, I get to move to a 'legit' PDA data plan (no more worries about being busted on the Medianet plan).
Anyone else have this dilemma? If so, which way did you go?

Yes, I have the exact same dilemma. But I'm looking at it from a slightly different perspective: The only way option 1 is more attractive is IF it won't renew my (expired) contract. With option 2, you should have the ability to change back to medianet after a few months, so the data premium shouldn't be anywhere near $336. I ordered early Friday morning, when the system was still screwed up and not allowing the correct dataplans. I just did the "upgrade device only" option. After things got fixed, allowing the $100 discount when you select the $40 data plan, I called back to see if I could get credited the difference like some had, but they said I'd have to return the phone that was already on it's way, and re-order. The phone arrived yesterday, but as of this morning, my contract still shows up as "ended" in OLAM. BUT, a couple days ago a link to a "customer service summary" PDF has appeard in the contract section of OLAM, which wasn't there before. It is specific to me, and summarizes my plan, phone, etc., and also lists a 24 month service term (but doesn't say when that 24 months begins or ends).
So honestly, I'm not sure if my contract was extended or not. IF it hasn't been, I'm considering leaving well enough alone. But if I'm locked into 24 months anyway, I think I will work on getting the $125 back (even if I have to re-order), plus the additional $100 potential in rebates.

FWIW, in the User Information tab under my Account Profile page, there's a heading "Contract Information" with the line "Contract end date Your Contract has Ended"
Clicking on the "Customer Service Summary" shows a few interesting things. In the blue "My Service" box in the upper left corner of the 1st page, it lists "Term of Service: NONE".
Just above the "Manage your account online!" footer is a line "Generated on: 06/28/2006" - which is well after my contract ended....
It would be interesting to see when yours was generated....

Just curious - did you have to check a box at the end to accept a service agreement???

Premier Pricing
I ordered from the Premier site without a problem, and I'm not eligible for an upgrade. I skipped through the options to add data plans and features and went straight to check out. I paid $450 tax and all. I printed the rebate forms from the regular at&t site and I will get $100 back. Netting my total cost to $350 with NO changes to my plan.

There's a thread about no-contract pricing...at least one other person thought the same as you and then got hit with a 2yr contract extension! Did you check a box to accept the service agreement? Have you checked OLAM to see if you now have extended your contract?

I may have extend my contract, and I'm sure I checked the box to "accept". But the extension is no concern to me. I listed the same line I just used to buy the 8525 just 6 months ago. So in reallity, I only extended it by 6 months.

Yes, which I'm sure is what's generating the 24 month portion of my agreement. The only confusing part is the fact that OLAM says my contract has ended. Which is correct?
Also, just as a sidebar... I ordered the phone on Friday. Starting On Saturday, attempting to click on "upgrade my device" in OLAM started generating the following error:
We're sorry, but we are experiencing a temporary system error that prevents us from retrieving your account information. Please wait a few moments and try again.

If I can't upgrade to another phone for two years, that's fine (kept my last one for 2.5). But I'd still rather not be bound to a contract.

Heh, I tried this with the smartphone plan. Doesn't work. You need a PDA data plan for this phone. Smartphone != PDA phone. If you try to connect to Edge or 3G it will not allow you to. I called AT&T and asked them why I couldn't connect and they said "bc you have a smartphone data plan on a PDA". I was kind of expecting this anyways. Told AT&T to switch me over to unlimited PDA connect and it works like a breeze.
Yeah its a good deal. But right now they are out of stock. And this is a repeat post, there has been lots of discussion about this already.
I bought my phone from ATT for $432, then returned it to get it from newegg. Then newegg goes out of stock, and im left standing here holding my dongle.

My final cost to upgrade from my old, tired Cingular 8125 to a Tilt was $50 - well worth it! Specifically:
$299 to buy the Tilt from an AT&T store w/ unlimited data plan
-$100 mail in rebates (hopefully, haven't received the money yet)
-$150 for my old 8125 on eBay
= $49
What amazes me is that someone paid $150 for my 8125 on eBay. The phone was kind of beat up and missing a stylus......
we need about 5-6 more new threads that newegg has this deal

Anyone gotten their rebate yet?

I filled out all the paperwork and sent it in. The form said 6-8 weeks, then I got a text saying 10 - 12 weeks. I wish I could float some of my payments that long. ;(
I was also wondering if anyone has gotten any trouble for not having the data plan. I signed up for the MediaMax, but the rebate said something about the PDA plan. What's the difference? Just more money and more texts? I never text. It's worthless to me.
I am hoping they don't give me a hard time, especially since I they did not say anything about this requirement when I purchased the phone, and when I wnet to sign up for it later using the online system, I got an error.
Then I tried calling to get it set up, and the CS rep was a nit wit and I wound up having to go before she could figure out what I was talking about. I think they are trying to give the cable companies a run for their money as the worst possible customer service.
I just got a text today saying that they sent out my rebate and that I should it expect it in less than 3 weeks.
When you guys sent in the rebates were you using a PDA Net plan or a Media Net plan?
I just checked online. Mine was mailed out yesterday. I was a little disappointed that it comes as a debit card, and not a real check.

MediaNet. I tried to change it online the day I sent it out (which was the last day for the rebate period) and got an error, then had to ditch my CS call as mentioned above after being on hold for 12 minutes, and it took the rep another 10 to find my account...
If they give me flack, I will point this out.

ATT Premier rebate form for December

Hi
Can someone please put up the rebate for the ATT tilt that was valid for December and up until now.
I bought a tilt last week of December and ATT seemed to have removed the rebate from premier, I had saved it somewhere but cant seem to find it.
If someone has the rebate form for premier and can post it online, I will really appreciate it.
Thanks
I'm 99% sure I have this saved at my work computer, but unfortunately I won't be back in the lab until Tuesday. If no one else posts it up by then, I can get it for you.
I can attain that for you!!
You mean this $100 rebate valid 11/04/07-01/19/08 that is still on the main ATT website listed with the Tilt?

What was the difference between the premier rebate and the regular store rebate forms. Just go into a corporate location and they should be able to get you one. I think its still 100 bucks. atleast thats what the ones here at my store say.
Make sure you got the unl. data plan or you only get 25$, and thats a whole nother form.
The regular rebates work just fine for premier orders.....
My rebate through Premiere is processed from this form. Hasn't been mailed yet, but it worked fine. Put

I have the $39.99 plan and a $29.99 Smartphone Unlimited Internet+1500msg plan. I'm thinking it'll be fine per their description.
My question, is this only for new activation? I bought a TILT on Ebay and the user gave me the receipt + the proof-of-purchase/IMEI sticker. I already had an account. I'm curious if this is will work, or if I need a seperate rebate as this says "AT&T Online only". Anyone have the store-based rebates available for print?
Is this only for new activation or will an activation 19months ago work?
Rebate Visa
Don't forget, people, since they give a visa credit card, rather than a debit card, you must charge exactly $100 to get the full rebate. The combination of credit and an expiration date is a fantastic way for AT&T to pick up a couple of bucks here and there from each of us.
Since its a credit card, your charges either are within your credit limit or they aren't. Unlike a debit card, you can't take $2.87 off if that's what you have left (unless you are charging a $2.87 item).
Nothing to do or say ... it is as it is ... just be careful; or your $100 rebate will become $94.87

Verizon Droid 3 $50 Rebate?

I called in to VZW CSR today to try and order a Droid3 and was told it would be 199$ w 2yr contract. I pointed out that online, i was seeing 149.99$ w 2yr contract. her explanation was Phone Orders will come w a 50$ Mail In Rebate.
Can anyone who rcvd order by phone confirm this rebate?
Can we get a Promo Number? which rebate company?
and if you're really generous w your time, even a scanned copy of the rebate form itself?
$50 rebate
I'm not sure if you saw this correctly, as I paid $199 online for mine, and still see it advertised as such. Maybe the CSR just said that (they wouldn't do that right?). Anyway, if you do find a rebate on this, please update us all, I'm sure everyone could use an extra $50.
When I ordered mine, it was a discounted to $149. i figured this was due to my last new every 2 upgrade.
This was ordering off the website.
Mine is also listed at 149, but I was assuming it was due to the corporate discount I get through my company.

My mistake, it was 169.99 due to corporate discount. Just finished ordering and saw nothing about a rebate.
Discount
From what I understand depending on your the monthly amount (39.99 or 79.99) of your current contract, there is special upgrade discounts/rebates for existing customers, resulting in either $30 or $50 off for NE2 (on top of 2 yr contract/renewal pricing). Being a new customer to big red, I gets no love. I guess being an early adopter of the 3G Xoom doesn't count for anything ha ha.
just picked mine up at a verizon retail store...no rebate.

it's actually $69 on letstalk, but it's backordered.
Be careful about the discounted prices at third party vendors. Be sure you understand the conditions of purchase so you don't wind up getting billed for the full retail price of the phone if you make changes to your account later.
I'm not saying don't buy them. I'm saying, know what you're buying.
Also, you may not qualify for the discounted price with a vendor, even if Verizon considers you to be eligible. That seems to be my story.

Best option to insure old phone back to T-mobile

Good morning,
I just received my Note 4 two days ago, and am getting ready to mail my old G3 back to T-Mobile. Considering this is a 500 dollar phone I'm sending back, I plan on insuring it. My question is this. Are there any options, or is it even worth it, to send the phone via certified mail? I've read horror stories online about T-Mobile losing phones that were sent back due to a Jump upgrade, and then trying to pass the cost onto the customer. I was browsing the USPS website and I could only find options for certified letters, but not packages. Would it even be worth certifying it or would it just be better to get insurance on the item?

Definitely send it certified mail (green and white slip), that way you can track it. You can also add on a return label (green slip), which will be mailed back to you once they have received it.
Insurance wise it shouldn't cost that much...just do it if you can.
Congrats on your new note 4.
Thanks for the quick reply. Even if the certified mail is 20 bucks or so, it's better than T-Mobile throwing the cost of the phone at me when they inevitably lose it.

One quick question. I noticed in your signature you listed T-Mobile @ 107 mb/s. Where were you that you got that at? I'm lucky to pull 20.
Trust me do not send any phones to tmobile especially US mail.. I had a nightmare of a situation which I'm still paying for it to this day.. To make a long story short http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1824833

Insurance means nothing if the item shows up as delivered and tmobile denies even receiving it or the box was empty or the phone isn't as described.

I'm not sure what your options are... but I know I'm handling future transactions via T Mobile stores just to protect myself from the crap that's going on in that T Mobile warehouse in Texas.

Just talked to my local T-Mobile store and the only option I have is to mail it back. I'll be insuring and certifying it with receipt acknowledgement. I won't be going through this again. Next time I jump I'm doing it in store. The stores have great customer service, it's that damned warehouse in Texas that screws everything up. This return label though is going to York PA. Maybe it won't go to Texas and everything will be good. Regardless, I'm getting a tracking number, it's getting certified, and it's getting insured for the full amount of the phone.

I had the exact same experience a couple years ago. I returned a Note 2 that I had purchased on the website. When I called a couple weeks later to check on the status I was told that the package was received and that it was empty, that it only contained accessories (and they treated me like a thief in the process). I was told this by many different people at their call center, always with the addition "if we find it, we'll let you know and credit your account". As if you can just "lose" a phone out of its box, it was like partial admission of guilt. After another 2 weeks of being on the edge waiting for some resolution, I finally got my $600+ refund and the explanation that someone in their receiving department "must have been checked it in wrong".
The moral of the story is that you're always taking a risk when you send something back, this is probably true of any online retailer. Insurance and signature confirmation helps to an extent, but you have no control over warehouse staff...after delivery you just have to hope that no "mistakes" are made. Having said that, I ordered my Note 4 online, but I guess i'm a glutton for punishment when there's a $30 coupon involved. They really should allow returns in stores. Just know the risk.

I ran into this when I sent my SGN3 in. I wrapped my phone in additional bubble wrap and packaged in the envelope provided. As the letter provided to me stated I could add additional insurance if I wanted on my own dime. When I went to USPS they told me if I added the insurance IT WOULD CANCEL MY FREE SHIPPING AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SHIPPING. Even worse the label provided to me wouldn't scan in their system so I could not even receive a receipt of acceptance from them. I sent it out anyways but called Tmobile customer service immediately to make note in their system I had sent it out. I took the time to tell them my ordeal and that's when they dropped on me "in the future/next time" they would reimburse me for that shipping charge by deducting it from my bill, just let them know. Fortunately my phone got to them and I received a text message letting me know we were square.
Also, I don't know about needing to certify it as Delivery Confirmation would get you the details and the insurance covers any lost mail.
*edit*
after reading the horror post of the lost phone, certifying isn't that bad of an idea, see it you can get tmo to reimburse that too. They won't reimburse the insurance but the s/h should be good to go.
