Removing provider logo with sugarcube. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

For the people who didn't know this already.
You can remove the provider logo from the phone with a cube of sugar. Because the cube of suger is softer then the metal you wont scrats the metal surface but it will remove the paint of the logo.

Make sure you only move the cube the way the metal is brushed. So up and down, not from left to right.
After it you can clean it with a soft cloth with a little alcohol on it.
And away is the Ulgy T-mobile logo!
Only thing to do now is remove the w-n-w logo from the button.

Wow, good find!

but the w-n-w is on plastic so how will you remove that?

Don't know yet, but I will look into that soon.

the WnW is cut out of the button so even if you take the pink off you are left with the shape so might as well leave it (unless you buy a replacement panel from HTC).
Russ

Sweet!!!!!!

My Tilt appears to have some kind of coating on the metal that makes it darker. Anyone done this to their Tilt? My Dopod C730 has the same type coating and it looks like it's a coating and not an anodizing so I'm leary of trying it.

Well I think the Tilts do have a coating cause I just tried this on mine and nothing happened. No scratches and no paint taken off, it's all still there.
How hard should we push down on the cube and how long should this take?

apparently pocket friction will wear away at the painted-on HTC logo on the tytn ii. and the rubberized back and the logo stamped there holds up well exposed to motor oil and brake fluid.
Strange, huh?

Well, when you push the cube on the paint the cube starts to crumble. I noticed thats not really good. Try to search a harder erge of the cube and push so hard that the edge of the cube donesn't break. Now move the edge over the paint a few times and it will come off.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. I work at my fathers shop and I was impressed with how well my Dash withstood the oil and daily grind around here. Now that I got my hands on my Kaiser I noticed the little HTC on the front is rubbing a little thin but all the oil and grease doesn't affect the rubber HTC, lol

AT&T?

Anyone try this successfully with the AT&T logo on the upper RHS of the Tilt? Sure would like their logo off my device... It is an HTC not an AT&T!

Okay, here is some evidence of my failure. I used the same sugar cube, which isn't even a cube anymore. On the same phone lol. For 2 days for about 5 minutes each day. I didn't even make a dent, oh and that thing between the "a" and the "t" is not a scratch just a piece of lint that I didn't get when I whipped around the logo.

Those AT&T bastards. I tried a small arsenal of solvents I have including paint thinner, acetone and MEK (methyl ethyl ketone - nasty stuff!) and my darn logo looks exactly the same as yours - FULLY INTACT. I guess I will give the brake cleaner a try as well - also nasty stuff. I will post my solution eventually...

Cool find.

Can you not try getting some really fine wet n dry paper and wet it then take it off?
Russ

have you not tired using a copper coin and rubbing with the grain.
it works on the t-mob logo. and is a widely know solotion.

Thanks
Thanks Tomahawk and Deathace: Good tips but I am not willing to experiment and risk ruining the finish of my device in such a visible location without some confirmation that these methods work on this particular logo and with NO damage.

Thats cool I totally agree with you, I personally have no problems with the t-mobile branding on the outside of the case as its very minimal, its inside the OS that bugs me as they fill it full of useless **** most people don't use. But that's why we hack them about and take it out

i dropped my kaiser this morning onto tarmac and buggered up the screen chassis and the sliding mechanism - anyone know where i can get these bits as replacement parts and how much they would cost?
cheers

slide mechanism
Go to www.cnn.cn. They have a good selection of spare parts. the entire slide mechanism is $39.95 USD. Whole new case is $79.99 USD. They are based in Hong Kong and ship all over the world. Parts show to be in stock on their website.

oh my god thankyou so much! now i just need to find some of the vario3 front buttons and ill be sorted!
cheers! you sir are made of win and legend!
yo had a look at that site - they dont look like htc oem casings to me :s the pictures show an extra button next to the power button and and back cover isnt the matt black you find on standard units - you sure theyre not cheap knock-offs?

that pic gives you a bit of an idea - looks worse in real life, the metal front plate is buckled at the bottom of the screen and the buttons are all scraped - the side plastic housing has the silver paint ripped off it and the sliding mechanism is really loose now - i can push one side of it and itll move about 2-3mm up without the other side moving at all - i recall this being rather tight before i dropped it
im so kicking myself :'(
Yeah!! The TyTnII (and it is one you can tell by the front cam position) side thumbnail shows a COMM Manager button
It would mean the power button was in the wrong place?
It looks like pre-production parts? Kaiser's rear was glossy up to production release. Power button looks OK, but that's a different 2nd button for sure.
Not that this helps, but I had my big camera case on my shoulder and it somehow spun and unclipped my Kaiser in it's PDair flip case, off my hip and onto asphalt! I hear the mind-bending clatter of a $850 plastic toy bouncing.... magnet catch released..... front flap opened.... came to rest, face down..... Not a freaking mark!!!
I went to church.

Anyone know of a supplier of silicone cases for Kaisers? That would have limited damage and I am really nervous with mine as I have experienced a drop or two previously with my SP5 but come out unscathed due to a good silicone skin.

tbh im quite amased the damage tomine literally is only the casing - i did properly step on it with all my weight and it did slide along the tarmac *CRINGE* under my full weight (bit like a skateboard - it was really rough oldy knobly tarmac too)- lord knows how i missed cracking or scratching the screen - i reckon there was some divine intervention going on somewhere - god works in mysterious ways etc - maybe this phone is blessed
mind-bneding really is appropriate - i think i nearly lost conciousness lol

Is a bit of play in the keyboard slider normal?
I recently dropped my MDA Vario III from a height of the seat of a chair onto a wooden floor. Everything works fine and there are no scratches or anything but I'm not sure if the keyboard is now a bit looser than it was. If I press on the top or bottom right hand corners of the screen it slides in a little. Is this normal or is it fairly tight unless you push both top and bottom at once? There's about a 1mm gap on the left hand side between screen and base and if I press the X button on the screen to close an app, the screen moves down under the pressure a bit. Can anyone with a pristine Tytn II tell me if that's normal or not? I have an accidental damage policy on the phone.
Cheers,
Ashley Emery

Nothing to worry about, this is normal. If you try to slide it by pushing at the very top or bottom (one corner only) it slides in a little. You can slide it out that way, but it feels less smooth than normal. To slide it properly you'll need to push a bit closer to the centre, like you'd normally do with your thumb. This way you get a nice smooth sliding action.

I think 1mm is a bit too much. Your screen may have been dislocated because of the drop... If you look closely at the surface of the touch screen you'll notice that every time you push on it with the stylus the screen surface "bends" slightly. This is normal. But if the entire screen assembly/frame moves and goes in as you push it, then it may have been damaged and become loose. Perhaps you can try another Kaiser in a local shop and compare.

Two days with the D2 and display broken

It is hard to believe, the display is real **** of the D2.
I was super careful, did not drop the phone or anything. Already after the 2nd day of owning it, the display is broken.
I had it in the leather pouch in my pocket and when I pull it out to use it, I see some liquid under the display. Now the display does not react anymore.
No idea what to do...
has this happened to you before?
Hi
Sorry to hear the screen is broken, if you mean you had it in your trouser pocket this is very likely the reason. They should never ever be put in a trouser pocket, a mobile phone might be built to withstand it, but not a mobile PDA such as these. The problem is they are all screen, and any pressure bending the chassis, or keys or coins pressing against the screen are going to cause problems.
Depending on where you bought it you might be able to send it back to the place of purchase, or try a warranty repair with HTC, however other people have reported that problems such as this with the screen are excluded from warranty.
Regards
Phil
This screen issue does worry me; it does seem to have afflicted quite a few users. I regard myself a a very careful user, my "gadgets" are rarely scratched or marked.
But, I keep the D2 in a soft pouch in my jacket pocket. Evertime I get it out there's an irrational urge to worry if the screen's still OK. This will probably subside with time, I admit.
What worries me is if the pouch gets "poked" on the screen side whilst in my jacket. I would expect a portable device to be at least a bit resistant to this treatment. The D2 does appear to have a "delicate" screen, which would benefit from being stored in a pouch with a hard protective panel on the screen side. If only for peace of mind.
Thanks for the kind words. I just left the phone alone for about 3 hours and the liquid behind the display has disappeared. It seems like it fixed itself, which I do not understand.
I will monitor it and treat it carefully, however it looks like this could be a common problem, as I really did not drop it nor knock it.
If anyone else has had a similar experience, I would be interested to know about. I actually may call XDA and ask them how this happens...it's looking good so far...

@cencored: Perhaps it was just moisture which has dried out? I've read before this can happen if the screen gets damp (although the symptom for actual physical screen damage sounds very similar).
I remember my Diamond2 coming with an extra message in the package stating you should never keep it in the pockets of your trousers.
i have had my D2 for 1month and a half. i havn't had any problems with it except some dust getting under the screen which i fixed it.
I misplaced the slip case that came with my TD2, ordered a new one of the interweb but in the 2 days it too k to arrive my screen got scratched. Given the real beauty of this device is the screen and it;'s resoloution I am gutted to the point that even though it is still 100% functional and the scratches are really very small I may look at the cost of a new screen.
Why don't they make phone screens out of the same glass they make watch glass with? I don't feel the need to put a watch protector on the glass of my watch, and it seems to need a lot of abuse before it gets scratched or chipped.

This is a little difficult for "touch"-screen, because it will not respond
I always have my phone in the trouserpocket, but because I know I'm not very carefull with al lot of things, I have a leather case with hard top.
I friend of mine had complaints about damp in his diplay.
They said never to keep your phone in your trouserpocket and never use it in the bathroom
well the touchscreen means that the protection foil must me sensitive to touch. I carry my TD 2 in my backpack. ALWAYS. I know that there are problems with the screen. Yes, there was a message that came with the TD 2 pack: something like don't sit when your phone is in your pocket. Still, better safe than sorry

HTC Magic Best Skins Ever Review!

Hey Everyone!
Anyway I posted this at another forum, and I decided that I should post it here to. This community has done so much for me, I have been lurking around here a bit and decided to give back. Here you go :
Note 1 : Click on images for full size
Installation Tips
Installation on this skin, like all skins, is fairly hard. Here are some great tips that really helped me move the proccess along.
1) Using an exacto-knife (or even better a model knife), cut the top piece near the earphone and the bezel piece into two. I guarantee you this will help GREATLY!
2) Do the same on the face buttons, and the bottom bezel. Here is an illustration :

3) Palm technique: This is a well-know technique among people who use skins often. On skins, corners often don't stick down. So what do you is wait a couple of minutes, usually 5, then using the palm of your hand press down on the corner and hold it for 30 seconds. The corner usually goes down, if not wait a bit more for the solution to dry then try it again. It is extremely useful for area's that just won't stick down.
4)Another thing that helped me, was get a deck of cards and tape them together. Put your phone on the top and apply the skin then. This helps to make sure your skin doesn't skin to the table.
5) The last thing is never, ever apply your skin over a paper towel, since the dust from it can stick to your skin. And make sure no dust gets under the protector because it is a huge pain to perfectionists like me.
Install
The back and sides are the easiest to do. The back went on in under 15 minutes, the only thing you need to do is make sure you do the palm technique (Tip 4) and the corners easily go down. What I did is I applied the back and waited for 5 minutes for the solution to dry up a bit, then put the corners down.
For the front, do the screen first. It will help you determine the lines where the top and bottom piece should go. Make sure the screen is on centre, because mine floated off and made an area where dust builds up, and it really ticks me off.
Make sure that everything is 100% on its right place. This skin is cut exactly for the phone, and a shift in a couple of mm can result in major problems (I learned the hard way).
Here is a picture of some lint and dust that gathered in the gap between the screen shield and chin shield pieces (Because I mis-aligned the screen protector):

Feel
Overall, the skins feel amazing. The screen part, has a slight orange field affect, but after some use it feels amazing to the touch. Your fingers slide around well. Many people complain about the orange people, the BSE has it ever so slightly. The truth is, at first it feels kind of sticky. After a bit of time and use, it smooths out. And also, the skin feels amazing, makes the screen much more tactile and feel great. It also prevents fingerprints a lot. I have been using it for a week and didn't have to wipe the phone, not once. And it doesn't distort the screen or anything.
I have a feeling they used a slightly less orange peel screen shield, because the back is more grippy. This is great, since I found the original plastic phone back very slippery, especially in hot weather and sweaty hands.
Here is the front :

Here Is the Back:

Coverage/Pieces
Many people want to know the coverage and how it compares to competitors. Well basically, the phone covers the entire front, excluding small spaces around the buttons.
The sides are fully covered except a small area around the volume controls.

They reach all the way around and meet at the top, and at the bottom where they leave an opening for the ExtUSB connector, and also a very exact cutout for the microphone :

The back is where the most exposed. The camera hole opening is quite a bit bigger than the camera itself, but its not an issue at all.

Also, the back has about a 3 mm gap between the side cover and back cover. I think while this is actually a good idea, because now there is no scare of accidentally overlapping the two pieces, and not being able to take off the back cover.
Overall I highly recommend the BestSkinsEver. They are high quality, and have an incredibly low price. I just recommend taking advantage of the deal and get 3 skins at once and get free shipping, because it is very likely you will mess up the first time. And if you don't, then you will have back ups in case the skin gets damaged.
Note 2 : To make the solution, I used a quarter of a spoon of orange Dawn dish soap, mixed with 300ml of water.

I wish i had seen this prior to buying the shieldzone shield. The coverage is way better on best skins. Thier are many areas of my mytouch/magic that are not covered as well as with the best skins ever. Great review!!!

You don't HAVE to cut the top, I am just saying it helped me greatly in application, and because of the quick application I got no dust under the skin as well.
what would you say about the durability of these skins?
Also, does it attract fingerprints just as badly as the original finish, or does it have some fingerprint resistant finish?
Best Skins Ever Rock!
The name says it all! I have been using these little beauties for about a year now and nothing has ever worked better. I was using a rubber cover before and I couldn't ever get the darn thing out of my pocket, or in the charging cradle. Best Skins Ever allow me to use the phone as intended without compromising the new look. Luv It!
I looked on the site and can't find one for the Magic. Did a search for all HTC and there are 7 models listed but not the one I need.

By any chance do you have an issue with dirt getting on the edges? I have a Bodyguardz skin on mine and for some reason it gets dirty around the edges of the whole skin.
***EDIT: I meant dirt around the edges of the screen.

Beware - WEAK Gorilla Glass! Scratches out of nowhere

I had my Nexus 4 wrapped in plastic pretty much all day yesterday. Only in the evening I had taken it off. It had no contact with anything that might cause the scratches. This morning I found it had 3 nasty scratches on the screen. How that is possible - I have no idea. The phone was not dropped nor abused!
Maybe the phone you got was in a bad batch, I doubt it's covered by warranty.
So the Gorilla Glass is weak because you have no idea what happened?
Scratches are not caused by thin air friction like you seem to imply. Pocket with keys or change, something that shouldn't have grinded on it did. Please tell us something more convincing than "it was sitting there with the plastic on".
Its gorilla glass 2.. the exact same thing as about 50% of the phones on the market and your is scratched by air?

The phone was face-down on both.

Sabotage from someone.
Time for a screen protector then. They can do a decent job of concealing scratches for you.

Angry cat maybe? Are you ignoring your pets due to playing on your phone?
Tiny grains of sand can easily scratch gorilla glass. Easier than keys or coins.
They are not visible unless I use flash. Right bottom corner, two are in X shape and one near the edge.

Maybe it's your good looks. Be lucky it didn't shatter. In the future, take more care of it. I've owned nearly a dozen devices and have never had problems except for the time I let a friend use the stylus on the phone and pressed way too hard.

I've owned a lot of devices myself, never had a single scratch on them. This is the first time, I cant even think of what have I done to this phone to get scratches like that.

Transform nexus 7 into white tablet. Looks very nice!

Hi guys, I bought a decal skin sticker for my nexus 7 a few days ago from Stickerboy, and installed it. At first, it looked kind of weird but I think it's because I was so used to the black nexus 7. Now after a few days, it looks really nice. It feels like the tablet actually came in white.
You should also get the extreme version because that one will cover the back entirely, so it looks nice. I didn't get the centre screen protector. Not only it costs much more after that, I didn't know how it would work, like if it's a separate centre protector or if it's connected to the white front as one piece. If it's the latter, I think it will be better though as the sticker is actually thicker than I thought, so you can definitely feel it when you glide your finger from the sticker to the screen.
Anyway, I still like it a lot.
Ask me if you guys have any question!

Hey,
http://www.stickerboy.net/pages/nexus-7-1st-gen-skin-series this is the link for all the types of skin for nexus 7 1st gen.
What I have is this. http://www.stickerboy.net/collectio...lth-matte-antibacterial-nexus-7-1st-gen-skins
This is the super smooth finish version, but there is also the antibacterial one with grainy textured version for white as you'll find. I'm not sure how that one would look though. There is also this. http://www.stickerboy.net/collectio.../products/white-leather-nexus-7-1st-gen-skins Leather white. I personally think it would look a little bit weird with the texture, but not 100% sure.
I like the one I got for the most part. It's very smooth and feels nice, but when the tablet is warm, and your hands are also sticky, fingerprints stick to the back, and it kind of gets sticky from your hand, but after a short time, it just comes back to normal, smooth. and not really noticeable fingerprint. Just when the tablet is warm and you hand is sweaty.
Hope it helps!

Thanks!

Nice!
On the white one that you have, what's it like when it comes to general dirt? Does it wipe well, or does it easily retain dark marks and become dirty-looking quickly?
As for the link to the other skins, some actually look pretty darn cool!
Does it scratch easy? How about the corners? did it require using a hair dryer to soften it up? Im always worried that the corners will start peeling

Hey, I'm very sorry for late reply! I was expecting a notification from Tapatalk or something but there was nothing.
This one I have is very very smooth feel. Wipes super easily. Anything that gets on it, dirt, grease, they gets wiped very easily. But because of that, maybe it's not as grippy. But I don't mind personally.
Hope it helps!

As with my previous comment a few seconds ago, sorry for late reply! I haven't had any scratches yet. It seems pretty durable. Yea, I had to use hair dryer to soften it up the corners, then apply the corners. It's actually pretty simple. Just like you, I was worried because of the fact that I need to use hair dryer, so I first didn't buy this, but I was so temped, and decided to try. And there is a very helpful tutorial video on youtube, specifically for nexus 7 2012 version. It shows you regular fit and extreme fit, and for extreme fit, it will show you how to use hair dryer to get the corners. I followed that and it was pretty easy. Also, the video said, if you got it wrong, you should intentionally damage the skin and straighten it to reapply the corner. But I didn't do this as I was worried, I just peeled off the mistaken corner, and blow dried it and it softened up, and I just re applied and it worked fine.
One important tip, was that when you apply the corner as it was shown in video, you do the center of the corner first, then do the sides of the corner (you'll get it when you watch the video). You have to KEEP applying the blow dryer until you finish applying the corner. What I mean is..you should NOT stop the blow dryer after it seemed softened up. Keep applying the blow dryer until it softened up AND you have finished applying that one corner. Because when you stop the dryer, and apply with your finger, it will harden very quickly, and it will have wrinkles after you apply. I had this problem, and I peeled off again in the corner, and tried again, and it worked perfectly.
Hope if helps!
I had a skin on one of my older phones before. There is one thing people should think about. It didn't cross my mind until after I got the skin. Screen Protectors. The screen protector would have to go first, but you won't be able to take off the skin since the screen protector would come with it. LoL!!
This looks nice, but I replace my screen protector a bit often since it scratches. Guess I won't be getting this. =.[
