I am on a Tilt with the HTC bigstorage rom. I have tried both radios that are available, the .11 and .17. My network is ATT and we don't have 3G in my area yet. On my Wizard I never have anything but full Edge service at home. On my Tilt I am almost always on GPRS with low signal. Is this something I just need to wait for a newer radio rom to fix or is there some other cause? The problem is unchanged whether on the stock rom, the htc ship rom, and the bigstorage rom I am on now. The radio change also made no difference.
Thanks guys.
Disable the 3G radio in the Comm Manager - should only pick up edge after that.
I am sometimes getting Edge now, so it's not like its not enabled at all. Sometimes it jumps from gprs to edge and back to gprs within seconds. My Comm Manager does not have a 3G button, just a data connection button. Do I need to get a new Comm manager?
Try this cab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=54098&d=1192271410
I've been using it since yesterday...I only get E now, sometimes G, but never 3G.
You disable 3g in the phone settings, band.
Hey thanks for the comm manager, its works great, there is now a 3g button which disables the phone settings band quickly without having to go to the settings. And I'm sitting at home right now and on Edge so it seems like this works.
However, with this comm manager, I am no longer able to completely turn off data completely from within the comm manager right, since the data button is gone and replaced with the 3g? Not a problem because I use NoData when I go out of the country but just would like to clarify.
Lastly, we are supposed to get 3G in my area in another month or so. When I renable 3g to use it, will i have to live with the bad service, or have to toggle the 3g off each time i want to have good service?
I beleive it only turns off 3G but leaves edge on. NoData is program right?
About the data thing - you might have to turn of 3G if it gives you a bad phone signal, but I wouldn't see why it would...
Update: tried the NoData program, seems to work well but how can I turn off data complety? It doesn't let me disable edge - or is that even possible?

Hi,
I recently purchased an AT&T Tilt (HTC Tytn II) and unlocked it so that I can use it with the Rogers Network. It worked perfectly for about three weeks then I took it to Orlando for a vacation. While I was there, I change the network setting to manual and connect it to AT&T Roger so that I can use it as a roaming phone. When I got back to Canada, I changed the network detection back to automatic and it connected to Rogers for about 10 seconds then it lost the connection. So for about 10 seconds, it worked but only lasted 10 seconds. I also notice that when it connects it shows E (Edge) as a data connection. After 10 seconds, it changed to 3G. As soon as it changed to 3G, it loses the connection.
I wonder if anyone has this problem. I don`t know if this is because I used it on an AT&T roaming network. I`m very puzzled and any help is greatly appreciated. Thx!
I am having the same problem. I travel to New York quite a bit. My phone would give me a message that it was unable to connect to the GPRS network. So I would go into the Comm manger and deselect the 3g. Then the phone would get a signal. I was not getting a 3g signal, but an edge signal. When I would come home to Ft.Lauderdale the phone would work fine no problems with the 3g till last week.
Soft reset I get the 3g signal 4 bars then it disappears I get no signal ! and then I get an Edge signal in about 5 seconds or so. Everything works but I am unable to get the 3g speed.
If I try to force the phone into a 3g signal by selecting WCDMA on the band I can get a 3g icon. The voice part works fine and displays utms but any time I try to use the data I get some sort of error message. Like dialed "proxy" no response or the remote party would not connect.
Do you think that we might have something corrupting the radio?

Old At&t

My old at&t rom doesn`t give me the option of selecting the band. Maybe I should flash it with HTC rom and at least get the voice part to work. I don`t know if the security scanning machine at the airport will harm the phone in anyway. They always ask us to take out the laptop and camera separately.
All, I am sure there is a thread on this somewhere, I just can't find it... please help.
I've got an AT&T Tilt with stock ROM, no bloatware. The problem is that when a phone call comes in (or I dial out), it seems to drop or interrupt the data connection even on 3G. Very annoying.
On my 8525 with WM6 ROM, this never happened. I could be connected to the internet (typically connecting my laptop via Internet Sharing on the 8525), and be talking on the phone at the same time -- the data connection was never interrupted. Of course if I was on an EDGE or GPRS network, it would -- but that's to be expected since GPRS/EDGE use the same radio as GSM. On the 8925, as I stated above, a phone call interrupts data even on 3G!
Has anyone seen this? How do I fix it? Thanks.

Yep overhere also... testing all radio roms but all the same... so far no fix found... we have to live with it...
The kaizer is dead... long live the Kaizer...
... to many problems
I'm in Edge country right now, but will be in 3g in a few minutes as I'm getting ready to roll out to LA, I'll email you from the car to test if the 3g and phone call can co-exist.
I think it has to do something with AT&T's cell towers. I also experienced the same issue that when calls came in my data connection would be cancelled. However one day, out of the blue, the 3G icon was suddenly replaced by an H icon. And it is there all the time! Now I can call and download data at the same time.
Thanks... that's bizzare. H means it's using the HSDPA protocol for 3G, U means it's UMTS, I think now the 3G icon shows up instead of U. (I hope I got my acronyms right). But that shouldn't matter! My phone will go between 3G and H, I think based on the capabilities of the towers. There is no telling what will show up in a given spot.
The mystery remains... Come on, all experts out there, share your wisdom. Could this have anything to do with disconnection settings or TCP settings (done via KaiserTweak)?
I think I just found the answer. Went to KaiserTweak, and selected the Data/Disconnect After setting, which I had set to 1 minute. In the description for that setting, It says "warning.." but you can't see the warning unless you go to landscape mode, which is why I never noticed it before. The warning says that with this setting, 3G Simultaneous Voice and Data will no longer work.
Disconect disabled, and a quick test showed that the problem is solved.
A week ago I got a second hand Tilt. It AT&T branded but a HTC rom was flashed to it, ROM version 3.28.405.0 WWE, Radio 1.65.17.56, Pototcol 25.83.40.02H.
My issue is I see not "3G" indicator on the screen in areas where I know there's coverage (my other phone does indicate 3G coverage). So what could this mean? Is something missing??
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

Having already read the HTC User Manual for the TyTN II perhaps? If you get the pdf from HTCs website (or even search for it) and have a read, you'll see that in areas of 3G coverage, sometimes the device will display a 'H' which is superior to ordinary old 3G.
My issue is that I'm in an area with 3G coverage, my other cell indicates this with a "3G" icon on it's screen, but my tilt does not indicate or detects 3G coverage. There's no "3G" or "H" on my display.

Can u post screenshot of your screen? What icons do u have there(on the upper bar)?
You may want to look for something like Kaiser Tweak or something else that disables 3g.. Also you can try tapping on the signal icon at the top and make sure that all the data/3g stuff is turned on at the bottom.
Don't know how to get screenshoot. On the top of the Today screen there's, from right to left, the task manager, the battery, the signal strength (just the little antenna and the bars) and the WiFi icon.
Where in Kaiser Tweak or Advanced Configuration Tool could disable 3G?
Kaiser Tweak = under Data
Advanced config = again, under Data.
Tried it...no joy!
Went to Adv. Config. and eneble everything under data connections. Still nothing.
Does your sim support 3G?

Did you check in Advance config to see if just the icons are turned of ? I believe you can just turn the icons off ( because some people find them annoying ) but still call and connect at 3G speed. Are you lacking speed or just the icons. ?
Let me re-state
I've had this Tilt for about a week, my other cell (Samsung A737) indicates "3G" all the time while I'm at work so yes my sim is 3G. This Tilt has never indicated "3G".
I went to Adv. Config under data connections and enabled everything.
What I'm trying to figure out, is this Tilt unable to detect "3G" or is it a missing icon thing.
IF
1. you have a 3g sim
2. Kaiser Tweak and Advanced config don't have 3g disabled
3. you don't have the "nodata.cab" installed
4. 3G data is turned on in the comm manager
5. HSDPA is turned on in /settings/connections/advanced network
6. All the proper info is set for your connection "media net"
and you still don't have 3g.
I would say at the very least do a hard reset or update your ROM.
Anything I'm missing?

Where in Comm Manager can turn 3G on/off?
What does Medianet settings has to do with 3G?
Thanks for your answers ChumleyEX!

Hehe, when u have wifi enabled the 3G icon changes to the wifi icon, just try to turn of wifi and see if the 3g,H,E or G icon will appear.
That's a thought Mikulec! Tomorrow at work I will try this. I'm home now & reception here is crap!

do some research and you will find all the answers you seak.
Say what?
I'm sorry ChumleyEX but that's not an answer...I dont have a data plan so MediaNet is, in my opinion, not an issue. Like I said before, that didn't keep my other (and less sophisticated cell) from detecting 3G coverage... anyway more data!!
I tried turnning off wifi to see if wifi icon becomes "3G", that doesn't work, the wifi icon gets an "X" over it & does not become "3G".
Yesterday I found out that if you try to make a video call the cell tells you if there's a 3G network available, so I tried this in my office & it answers no 3G network available.
Last night I started experimenting with flashing, I knew this cell had been flashed before by someone else, for one this is an AT&T branded Tilt but the previous owner has using it on another carrier and when I access the bootloader among the information there was "Spl 1.0 Olipro".
I flashed a couple of Hard SPLs & a couple of radios to try and it got me thinking, could the lack of "3G" be a radio or ROM issue??

It definitely could be radio rom issue, but ... I am flashoholic, that means I flash almost every rom that comes out. And on most roms that I flashed the 3G icon changes after some time to the X, but after going to the internet via gprs the 3G appears once again. I dont know why is this happining, there was a disscusion about this, but I dont know in which thread.
The funny thing is although I have the X icon, I am in 3G area and I can make video calls and use the 3G cappabilities. So I dontknow why u can not.
" I knew this cell had been flashed before by someone else, for one this is an AT&T branded Tilt but the previous owner has using it on another carrier and when I access the bootloader among the information there was "Spl 1.0 Olipro"
So it's possible that the media net info is incorrect. Also, your simple phone that has the 3G show up is just that, a simple phone. This tilt isn't so simple.
if this link works, download the file and run it.

For comparison sake I have an old stock razr v3xx and I get FULL service in my room with it.
On my at&t tilt, I get 1-2 bars.
Im running Slueth 3.0 (WM6.1) and I've tried different combinations of HardSPL's and Radios but each one gives me problems that I can not fix. (i.e. - some SPL's have certain bugs where i get a text and it vibrates until i change the ringer to silent, and any other radio than the stock slueth (1.64.08.21 - which I need a link to if anyone can find?) makes my camera not work and I get a black screen.
One thing Ive noticed is on my razr, the band always says 3G. On my tilt, it says "H" - which Ive never seen before. What is "H" - and could this be the reason for poor service?
Again, if anyone knows where I could find Radio 1.64.08.21, and the disable xt9 cab I would greatly appreciate it. (I have searched for both but to no avail for a working link)
H is for hsdpa its just a nother type of service, gprs hsdpa 3g are the main in the US.
No "h" it isn't the problem.
try the ultimate radio thread for the radio you are looking for.
yeah i did, 1.64.08.21 isnt in there
can I force my tilt to choose 3G? My razr picks up 3G with full service yet the tilt uses H with hardly any
I have really awful service too. It loses connection from 3G every 10-30 seconds sometimes, but other times it can sit connected to the 3G.
Sometimes it won't even connect to 3G, then when I soft reset, it connects at 2 bars. Right now it's sitting connected at 3 bars.
What's up with this, and is there any way to improve it? The nearest base station is only 2-3 miles away.
I'd recommend trying out different radios.
Also H stands for HSDPA which is considered to be 3.5g but it actually is 9x faster then 3g.
jay487, search harder.. i found the disable xt9 cab in one search for "xt9". as for the radio your looking for, check out the wiki.
if you change the band to GSM in the band tab in the phone settings the signal will get better if you turn off WCDMA which is 3G or HSDPA, if you don't use 3g for internet then turn it off it will help
yeah I changed the band to GSM out of curiosity and it definitely seems to help so far. I dont use 3G for internet just for picture messaging, this shouldnt be affected correct? I also just did a complete reload of Sleuth to resolve the radio issue.
One problem I still notice on occasion is my sounds will just stop working. If i get a text the sound doesnt play, and if i set it to vibrate when i get a text too sometimes it constantly vibrates until i change the sound to silent and then back. I can fix it with a soft reset but having to do this everyday is anoying.
Do you need a specific program or app to disable 3g or hsdpa? i have the exact same problems, ATT +tilt= bad recep and lots of dropped calls
thanks

My UK O2 XDA Diamond is running fine on a cooked ROM but I keep getting the connection go to HSPDA with one bar strength instead of the more reliable (ie stronger signals) GPRS or EDGE. Consequently the line drops out while I am on a call.
What setting do I need to change this?
I never saw HSPDA come up on the stock ROM, am I better off without this?
Thanks in advance

Even with just one bar you shud have far faster internet access with hsdpa over gprs .....
Thanks but my problem is actually dropping the calls, not internet access, although this drops out too.
When I am in a call the HSPDA signal drops to zero and I lose the call. This didn't happen before this rom was loaded, I didn't see the HSPDA icon at all.
Is it a setting for the band that I need to change or is it a matter of loading a different radio?

go to comm manager and turn 3g off, that shud make you fone stay in gsm mode
Comm manager has simply 'Data connection' on or off. I don't want to lose 3G as I use the phone for data too - quite heavily. Just can't put up with the loss of voice calls.
Any other suggestions?
duz advanced config tool have an option to disable hsdpa? i cant remember have a look

Try Settings>Connections>Advanced Network, then select "Disable" in HSDPA/HSUPA. This should get you to 3G.
