How to Close application properly? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrading

Hello,
I just noticed a strange behavior that I have on my Hima with WM6 TOFCLOCK that I hadn't on my WM5 ROM but I had on my original PPC2003.
When I open an application, and then close it, if I open my Task Manager, I can see that the application is still running
All applications are having this behavior so when I opened a lot of applications, the memory is full and the device lags.
Is there a way to automatically close properly applications or should I open my Task Manager each time I close an application?
Thx for your help!

HTC X-Button
Just search the forums for this program
HTC X-button.
It closes the application instead of just minimizing it
Cheers

HTC_X-Button
There it is

Yeah, I couldn't remember the name of this app, thanks!
I've been looking for it but without the name it's a little more difficult

Or pBar

A very small and very effective way is to use VJOkButton. it is an exe file and can be mapped to any hardware button.
I have mapped it to my record button. It closes the application straightaway. So no task manager needed.
you can use it in combination with HTC X-button or pBar as well.

is there any progs apart from spb plus which wen u click on the cross closes the prog and removes from memory?
how about VJOkButt by vijay555 ????

Thanks clustered!
VJOkButt doesn't replace the X in the top right, but it emulates clicking the X. It also replaces the function of the red key (hanging up the phone). So using AEButtonPlus you can replace the red key with a more functional replacement.
It has minor bugs (not as bad as they look on that thread, it works well for me!). It's undergoing updates this week and will, but still works "ok"
At some point I may consider turning it into an X replacement as well, so you can tap the X. However, it's easier to use a hardware key IMHO. No stylus required.

i want soemthing so if i tap it, it will close and if i hold it down then a drop down menu with options comes up
i installed magic key and it doesnt seem to do this.
SPB Pocket Plus does this
SPB Pocket Plus pops up the menu, Magic Button (free) does something similar. Wisbar can do it as well. There are lots of task managers.
I don't know what an Alpine is, but I highly recommend SmallMenu Plus.
GSPocketMagic is almost as good (and is free).
There are others... take your pick. I tried many, but Small Menu hits my spot for various functions.

This is my favourite program. It doesn't replace the X button but puts a small "lightning bolt" beside the X button. Clicking on this brings up a list of tasks with an option to switch to or close any/all of the tasks. It is very memory and cpu friendly 8)
Just copy the .exe file to somewhere on the device and put a shortcut to the .exe file it in the \windows\startup folder.
try this
place this app to \windows\startup folder and your close button will close apps totaly

O2 Stellar and HTC X button

I'd be grateful if anyone could offer any help with this issue.
I have an O2 branded version of the Kaiser. I have installed various of the cabs for HTC software available on this forum - which is excellent, by the way - and was very glad to find an "X" button solution.
Unfortunately, the device then started to crash whenever I closed a program for the first time and had to soft reset. I got a message saying that there was a problem with the shell.
As it stopped when I uninstalled HTC X Button, I am 99% certain that it was source of my problem. O2 stick a program manager in the system bar. It does not add X button functionality, but it does allow manual closure of a program. It does not appear ion any program list, and cannot be removed or closed itself, so I assume that it is part of the rom (not that I am an expert!)
Can anyone confirm this problem, and/or suggest a (preferably freely available) X button program that does not cause any issues? Alternatively, can the (fairly useless) O2 program be removed or closed without replacing the rom?
you are probably correct that the 2 apps are causing the issue. Have you looked in the \windows\startup folder for the O2 app? Also, there is a registry entry called INIT that does startup of services for the device. I can't remember right now where it's located in the registry. Let me know if you find anything in the startup folder and if not, I'll look up the key for you.
There is a file called O2 Custom in the Startup folder which has the same icon as the manager program I want rid of, but it is only 21b in size, so I assume that it is a shortcut.
Thanks for the suggestion. I would be grateful for some guidance on thew registry, since I am too inexperienced with this stuff to go poking around without very specific instructions!

that startup is probably it. you can try to cut&paste the shortcut to your 'my documents' folder, then reboot, then see if that o2 app is started after reboot. if not, then you found the solution.
I wonder if we are able to do a "corporate" install after hard reset like I used to be able to do with my Universal so it doesn't load all the 02 rubbish
Works like a charm, thanks smittyofdhs. The o2 program manager is gone, and HTC XButton 1.51 has not caused any soft resets so far.
You know, I feel really stupid not realising that removing the shortcut from startup would have done the job. I would have done the equivalent on my desktop or laptop without even thinking about it.
HTC has a new version of their Task Manager (V2.0) that can be found pretty easily by searching this website. The only problem I have with HTC's Task Manager(s) is that while the "X" functionality works in every application, the Task Manager feature seems to work only on the Today screen. Therefore, I have found WkTask to be a very good free task manager which also combines a program launcher.

[Q] [SOLVED] How to Kill Opera9.exe?

EDIT: Changed task manager from FdcSoft to Schaps Task manager and was able to kill the process with no problems.
Thanks!
Hi Guys,
I was hoping one of you might be able to help me with this rather annoying issue.
I am trying to upgrade from Opera Mobile 1938 on my TP to Opera Mobile 2808 so that I can get the in browser flash support fully working.
The method I am using to perform the upgrade is to copy the 'Opera9.exe', 'OperaL.exe', and 'NPFL3ppc.dll' from Opera 2808 into my Windows folder and overwrite the old Opera 1938 files so that an upgrade is achieved without the possibility of a double install if done via a .cab file or similar.
However, I am having the following problem. I cannot KILL the instance of 'Opera9.exe' that is running in the background and thus I cannot overwrite it with the 'Opera.exe' file from 2808! The other two files I can overwrite OK with Total Commander.
I am using a task manager (FdcSoft Task Manager) and I can see 'Opera.exe' running in the background but the instant that I kill the process, it is automatically relaunched therefore creating a new instance of 'Opera9.exe' and stopping me from overwriting the original.
This is really frustrating and I was hoping that someone here could tell me how to kill the 'Opera9.exe' process for a sufficiently long time to enable me to overwrite it with the 'Opera9.exe' from build 2808.
I am a newbie to this so if the answer is glaringly obvious please go easy on the flaming..
By the way I already tried the .cab file and ended up with two instances of Opera and that is why I am trying this method which many people claim works very well. I just need to know how to kill this 'Opera.exe'....
Thanks,
NC
i kill mine using schaps task manger. i have noticed that FdcSoft Task Manager is buggy with the touchpro
you first have to kill operaPrel.exe. after that you are able to kill opera9.exe
You can disable the push internet if not using, that will kill Opera9.exe
Hello, I was playing with this today. The opera9.exe is started by the push internet service. I used the FdcSoft Task Manager 3.1 and set the service "PushInternetEngine service(PEI0)" to manual and did a soft reset. The Opera9.exe process did not start up. I have not tested this very much, but it is easy enough to set back to automatic if you encounter any issues.
Thanks
Chris

Task manager

Hi,
What is the best Task Manager application for HTC Kaiser?
I am looking for a good task manager that I can assign it to a hardware button.
Which it can list all running applications , processes , memory usage , CPU.
It is able to kill process, etc.
At this moment, I am using DinnarSoft "Handy Switcher".
But, I am looking for a better alternative.
Thank you.
You could try QuickMenu or WK Task, both of them are free and very, very good.

Kill processes

Hey,
I'm running a WM6.5 ROM.
How do I kill a process?
In the Task Manager I have a list of the exe's running, but I can't fnid a kill button.
Any help?
search for process killer for wm. I use it and its work fine
WHen you open your task manager, at the end there are three buttons. The third one says: "close". Just select the program you want to kill/close. If task manager cannot close it properly, it will warn you to kill it.
Even i have same issues the kill opition is diabled I am using tael ROM 6.5
any suggestion
