Could Windows Media Player get any worse??? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Before anyone mentions it, I am aware TCPMP is the preferred media player for a lot of folks. I am not a big fan, as it requires me to spend a lot more time converting Playlists and MP3 files (so I can trim down my home preference for 256kbps MP3 -> something smaller for on-the-go)
And... I am supposed to get these features out of the box with what I have already paid for and installed, however, I have been fighting with Windows Media Player syncing for 3 nights now.
I think the gist is that the sync is taking forever and keeps losing a connection part of the way into the sync. I used to have this happen with XP under several different permutations of Active sync and WMP but figured WM6 and Vista would have corrected this issue.
So it has not, and to try and get things moving, I thought why don't I just copy over my files from my old flash cards (since they were already converted to 160kbps wma). Still doesn't help as even though the song is on the flash card WMP still goes through the conversion step before checking to see if the song is already on the device. So I am stuck wating for over 700 songs to be "reconverted".
In addition, the few songs I mistakenly purchased via WMP in the pre Urge days pops up a rights prompt on my mobile device asking if I want to download the license. Clicking yes brings me to a web page that shows a button to validate "I already own this song" that can not be clicked!!!!
I mapped some buttons in WMP Mobile, and now when I try to navigate to the start menu with the buttons, the dPad up and down let me walk the menu items, but clicking the center button does nothing, as WMP will not transfer control of this button to the OS.
And, as if this isn't enough already, in the new WM6 version, you still can not navigate the library tree using the dpad, you must use the stylis, how funnoying!!!
Shouldn't MS be able to get this right??? How many iterations of both the PC and WM versions of this software have they made and I still can not do something so simple as to select a list of playlist to be synced and have it ork!!!!! It's no wonder Apple is kicking their butt. I am not a big fan of iTunes/iPods, but at least they work!!!
Is this just par for the course? Shouldn't we expect these programs to work out of the box as advertised?

In a word, yes, it could.
Don't know if it will though. How was this program advertized to work out of the box? I have read nothing about that.
Use Window Mobile Device Center instead to transfer your files. You mention something or other about playlists but I can't figure out what you mean or how you want it to work, but I hope you find an app that can do all that for you, to replace WMP.
The phone works great for me. Just think outside the box a little and stop relying on WMP to do so much work for you if you don't like the way it does it. Apple has a way of making products that have a WOW effect, but which will show severe limitations after the initial thrill wears off. TyTN II is much better in ways of customization, flexibility and features if you take the time to tweak and adjust stuff.

Dunno about playlists, but I just drag and drop mp3s over to the sd card using a card reader. No activesync file size issues, converting issues, ect. Heck, AT&T says the tilt can handle up to a 32 gig sd card, so why shrink them?

You're absolutely right, WMP mobile sucks in every which way. Don't let the purists tell you otherwise and if they do, suggest they try playing the same media file with HTC audio Player and compare the memory usage between them! WMP is on its Nth iteration, its part of Windows Mobile core applications and it still bites, how could this possibly be? I guess it's right up there with Microsoft's battery draining implementation of RIM/Blackberry push email.

Don't go pointing fingers at push e-mail for battery drain. I would look at for ISA server/NAT/Firewall for the battery issue. You most likely have the HTTP(s) timeout set too low. It is set too low by default on all of these solutions. So you have to manually change it. That WILL dramatically lower the battery consumption of push e-mail.

Yay, registry tweaks for understaffed , overworked and underpaid IT departments. Here is some light reading for you as well: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=5915
The part where he says Microsoft's pings cost you 12 Mb a month and where RIM solutions get you 12 days of battery life is particularly interesting

Holy crap! Are they serious, or is that market speak for "about 8 gig really"?

Yes, WMP sucks. It doesn't save my playlists, bugs trying to do so and often loses playlists due to common error and requires me a few minutes to fix and a few hours to recover.
However TCPMP stops playback when I close the screen and I hate it just for that.

What this means is that the Kaiser/Tilt is compatible with the SDHC format. The biggest capacity the SDHC format will ever be will be 32gb, however, the biggest one that even exists right now is 8 gb, and the biggest one that you can actually buy is 6 gb. Don't expect a 32 gb micro sd card anytime in the near future.
By the time micro sd cards reach 32 gb, I'm guessing the SDHC protocol will be old news anyway.

It's not a registry tweak. In this case it is a simple setting in ISA. There are registry tweaks as well, but most are covered in updates.
12 Mb is okay with me, our data is unlimited. So it is much cheaper then BB.

Some Interesting observations

Having just received the phone, I must say that first impressions were great, well designed and seems well built. However, there are some rather disappointing observations:
First: Has anyone tried to record phone calls using one of the many different 3rd party software. It seems the only way to record the other person voice is to turn on the speaker, and this is really ridiculous.
Second: having loaded several word documents, upon opening the, it takes sometimes a minute or more to open, on my Treo, this is done in only a few seconds
Third: the system seems to slow down with repeated use, (a long secession).
Has anyone else found these problems? Also, is there any known work around for recording phone conversations?
I'll leave someone else to talk about the recording calls bit - not something I ever need to do.
On the word documents - I wonder how large these files are that you are opening? Mine are open in a second or two but then they are generally only a couple of pages long. Also the Kaiser uses the latest docx format of MS Word 2007 and I wonder if the older .doc format is being converted as it's opened. Docx is not backward compatible if you try to open Kaiser docx docs on PC using pre Word 2007 then they will not open. You have to save on PPC in RTF format if you are in this situation.
On the slowing down during a long session - I do not find this and I wonder if you have HTC X-button set to close applications or just to minimize them (ie that you are accumulating running applications?)
Mike
I find very big slow down opening large doc files and also scrolling them. On the Vario II (WM5) it was so much quicker.
Does anybody knows the reason why, or can resolve?
Word files
thank you for the reply
The Word files are from a Mac, running: latest-Office 2004. The documents are from 20 pages to 100 pages. They are saved as Word.doc files.
I also own a Treo 700P. The same mentioned files, using (Documents to go) will open in less than 15 seconds.
The same files open on the Kaiser: from 1 to 2.5 minutes.
Here is something interesting. I also own a HP (processor Intel PXA250, running (Pocket 3.0.1). This device will open the same douments very close to the Treo times.
Any suggestions?
I just had a friend send me a .docx to my PC running word2003, it prompted me to download a converter plugin. After installing the plugin, word now converts docx to doc's. I do wonder if the kaiser is doing the reverse as mentioned and converting from doc to docx and grinding on that?

Yes, it's interesting though and I wonder whether this issue may be the same one as with PIE scrolling. Perhaps related to the way it's caching data. For example and it may be the same in word - as you scroll it is fast until you go beyond the first couple of screens the really slows down. Using Touchflo (yes I'm getting the hang of it!) it is smoother but I'm a stylus man. Another possibility that occurs to me is that it may be the Touchflo app. that ironically slows down the stylus scrolling and indeed maybe the Word loading? Yet to find a registry way to stop Touchflo to test this theory.
So that's a few things to look into:
Stopping Touchflo
Doc to docx conversion
Increasing cache sizes
Identifying what has changed compared with TyTn (Hermes) as PIE and Word, appear (in contrast to almost every other application) to be slower than Hermes. (I'd 100% still rather have the Kaiser though for overall performance - still no unwanted soft resets and no hard resets required after 4 weeks!!)
Mike
convert from doc to docx
So, If I have a file created in Office 2004 (Mac) which defaults as (.doc), how can this be converted to a (docx)?

Fred just thought but did you change the settings on your htc task manager to close programs vs minmizing them (did not see this addressed in your reply) keeping apps running will have a dramatic impact on word load times.
Word docs opening slow
Sorry for the delay with the reply. Yes, all the other apps were closed while running Word. I guess the question is, why can a Treo open these docs faster than the Kaiser?
I spoke to an HTC service center and they commented that my unit was not responding as it should. When I mentioned the screen refresh rate seemed to lag, they said; send it back, so I did. I am now waiting for the replacement.
I will let you know the results.
thank you

Folks.. there is no need to use .docx format if you do not have Office 2007. Word mobile can save documents as .doc. Open Word Mobile and go to Menu -> Options... and select Word 97-2003 fom the "Default Template" drop down.
Now it will save your documents as standard .doc.
slow word docs
Well all is well. I just received my replacement phone, and all the docs open in seconds. By the way, with the first one, I did do several hard boots, and that did not help. thanks to all that helped.
problem persists
I still have the problem with the extreeeeeeemely slow scroling in ie and other documents
Its getting very annoying!

WMP playing = low program memory

So I was using WMP on my Tilt and noticed that when I started listening to music my free program memory tanked to less then 5% free. I've tested this many times now and it does it everytime. After a few minutes, the free memory will increase slightly.
Can anybody else try this and confirm for me if this is an issue across all Tilts?
To test, record your free program memory before openign WMP. Then open WMP, play a song, then check the free program memory. If it's kiek mine, you will see that shoot up from around 35-40% up to +90% load.
Well I did find this shortly after posting, so it appears to be an issue will all Tilts (or WM6 devices in general). Sory for the Google Cached page, the real site wouldn't come up for some reason.

This is a problem with WMP - not your Kaiser. If you try another player such as CorePlayer, you'll notice it uses far less RAM. Once again - shame on Microsoft for shipping a buggy and inferior product. I actually like WMP and I hate having multiple anything on my phone (media players, browsers, etc) but Microsoft needs to do better internally if they want to compete with devices like the iPhone long-term.
MJB
WMP uses a buffer (FIFO) for playing, the only available storage it has is internal memory.. This is a portable device so the developers of CE kernal thought that if you are watching a video on it that you would not REALLY be doing anything else!
Ergo..what mem is not in use, can be auto associated for buffer.
Hope this gives you an idea of Win CE kernal (base of all WM code).

I agree, it's all to do with back compatability of prior CE WM applications and poor MS upgrades to the kernal!!!
I seriously think MS are just giving us basic apps to fulfill standard tasks, hoping that 3rd party people will improve it!
And YES, it's happening, look at Coreplayer!...
i agree with you all. I wish I could use the default apps, but they suck. I understand MS only giving the user the bare bones stuff but com'on, at least make it work without eating up every ounce of memory.
Anyways, sorry for the MS flame but this issue and many others have been the same thru 3 versions of windows mobile. when will they actually take the time to re-write this stuff. Quit adding new functions, fix the old broken ones. There I go again flaming MS. I've been in the IT biz for nearly 20 years, and using MS products the whole time. By now I should be over the 'MS sucks" stuff..

NO, I fully agree with you. If MS gave us JUST a WM player that was broad aspect on file playability AND an IE that could link to most AV content around on the web at the moment, EVERYONE would be more than happy.
Trouble is, MS HOPED that every web site would make a duplicate mobile one....WON"T HAPPEN!!
Microsoft, get your act together and give us some GOOD surfing software...PLEASE!!!

Just got xperia.. few questions

1) So i've played around with it for about a few hours now... why can i see the battery icon on the top anymore? Futhermore, how come when I charge it with the adapter, it doesn't give a indication that it's charging whatsoever? (it never happened a few hours ago)
2) I use that media player panel to play my music.. but my album art doesn't show up. On my computer the album art are attached to each mp3. ???
3) Alright.. i just took a picture with its front camera, and whats with the quality?? its so poor, even compared to my previous cellphone 2 megapixel.
So far.. im a BIT disappointed mainly because of it's size and thickness.. and that its interface and programs feel a bit incompetent for it's size...
The plus side is that i love the slide keyboard, the fact that we have control/input via touchscreen, stylus, trackpad, d-pad, and or keyboard, AND that it runs windows live hotmail and messenger (something ive always wanted in a phone)

Welcome to the family lo l.
I guess you should first update it to the newest firmware. Download the SE updater from the Sony Ericsson site. That will improve the pics and video quality.
Did you install apps on it? There are many apps that change the battery indicator position. SPB Mobile Shell for example. You can tell that it is charging by looking at the flashing LEDs lolz.
I can't help you about the album art, because I have never had any interest in using it .
Cheers.

1) I totally forgot, my battery charging icon is skinned so I can't give an accurate answer. You probably did something in: Start Menu > Settings > System > Clocks and Alarms > More
2) Your album art is improperly tagged. Send the files to me I will tag them for you.
3) Front camera is a BASIC 1.3 MP just like most front cameras on most phones prior to 2009.
...
A) The Xperia has been universally praised for being pretty thin and narrow.
B) That's windows mobile for ya, want something pretty out of the box than get an iPhone.
C) That's the trade off for it's interface.
Thanks for the replies guys.

1) I have "Display the clock on the title bar in all programs" checked, and "Sound alarms even when the device is set to silent or vibrate" unchecked.
Those are the only 2 things in Start Menu > Settings > System > Clocks and Alarms > More. Could it be that I checked the clock in title bar? why does that make the battery indicator go away?
2) Oh i see.. i figured it was that. How I tag them:
In windows media player > library > Now playing > right click song & advance tag editor > pictures.
Its the same way itunes does it too. And thanks so much for the offer! but i have a ton of songs. Could you explain how to tag them properly?
3) Thanks! i assumed that was so! Shouldve tried the back camera
A) Lol.. I guess it may because I am too used to my older model phones (which arent smartphones) and the ridiuclously paper thin iPod touch.
I really did want an iPhone before this, but didnt feel like spending so much for the new 3gs. Maybe depending how my later xperiences are (pun lol), i may keep this phone or trade it for the iPhone. Both have their pros and cons that kinda balance each other out for me.. I think the iPhone may be bigger though in overall volume.
my clock does the same thing and it is very annoying. normal bar is battery, sound setting, 3g reception, and then 3g. yes, it is redundant, but when i turn on clock, it eats the battery indicator instead of the double 3g.

1) I am not going to help you with this because I'm just getting so tired of helping and I can't seem to think of the problem
2) If you are using Windows Vista Home Edition and use the trial version of Tag&Rename you can upload the albums and test if they work on your X1. It should display perfectly. If you are satisfied, than the application is well worth the 15 to 30 dollars that it costs. Just make sure the album arts are under 1.5 megabytes and the dimensions are under 1500x1500 pixels.
This is not a limit issue, Xperia is able to display pictures of greater resolution than 1500x1500. But it slows down your device.
iTunes blow, don't use itunes. And never use windows media player for tagging, it sucks.
If you tried tag and rename and it doesn't work than send me a file and I'll see if I can make it work.
A) If you ever swap, atleast swap it for an iPhone 3GS. The iPhone is wider and a bit longer, but it is thinner.
Do you like your Xperia even slightly? Then you will hate the iCrap. It is supremely not functional, cannot get any work done and is basically a glorified mp4 player. It is good for only one thing - TO THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE. It does absolutely nothing that a modern device does.
You can play music and vids - Yeah, but you need iTunes first. iTunes is the pinnacle of human programing failure.
You can surf the web - Yeah, that screen is nice, but you get NO flash. More than half of the sites use flash nowadays. Good luck getting "the full and uncompromised web experience". Apple = stupid liars and deceivers.
.......... there is nothing else that you can do with it.

Absolutely. I read a lot on my X1. No matter what the files are (txt, doc, pdf, lit), I can transfer them in seconds and open them right up. I am so used to doing it the easy way, that I would break my device if I had to convert or use an intermediate program for such a mundane activity.

You can surf the web - Yeah, that screen is nice, but you get NO flash. More than half of the sites use flash nowadays. Good luck getting "the full and uncompromised web experience". Apple = stupid liars and deceivers.
.......... there is nothing else that you can do with it.

I do like it; for all the reasons I mentioned in my first post: the slide, the inputs and controls, and that it runs windows live mail and messenger (biggest plus for me). I've have the iPod Touch for about over half a year so I've experienced with their OS for quite a while. The reason I wanted the iPhone was because I didn't want to carry both a phone and an iPod Touch, but now I see thats no longer the case since I'm open to new phones now
The iPhone's functions and features fail in comparison to most smartphones out there now.. The one and ONLY aspect why I see it superior is because of the hundreds and thousands of apps in the app store. I have about 100 cracked apps (sorry if we aren't suppose to talk about wares) in my iPod touch, and it really makes up for the functions, form factor, etc.
I guess the xperia as a whole is a very good device. It's just my transition from the ipod touch to it is what has distorted me from fully admiring the product (though I DO in some aspects). The apple OS has apps neatly lined up in homescreens, where as in windows mobile, its all over the place (you have it in menus, text, icons, etc) and the xperia also has that panels to make application navigating more tedious, but I do like the panels and I wish there were more (official youtube, and twitter panels, perhaps?).
Thanks for the encouragement on the xperia and input though guys, keep it up! I may just learn to fully admire it

I use XP professional. Is that the way you tag your album art to your songs?
Here is one of the songs.. http://www.zshare.net/audio/625286223670ff24/
and this is the cover I want to tag with it (i have it tagged, but doesn't show up in the media player)
Thanks! If it does work.. please let me know if theres a manual way for me to tag it!

It's tagged properly, your MP3 works perfect in my media panel, and the front cover is displayed properly.
1) Delete All of your MP3's
2) Launch the Media Panel
3) Make sure 0 mp3 tracks appear in your Media Panel
4) Go to Start Menu > Settings > Connections > USB to PC
5) Make sure you have active-sync disabled
6) Change your connection type to Disk Drive
7) Upload your MP3 into 1 folder.
8) I think this should fix your mp3 library.
If this doesn't work than please update your Xperia to the latest version using Sony Ericsson's website.
Open your battery cover, take out your battery, look inside the phone, and tell me if you see the code: X1a or X1i

Tried first method, didn't work-
I just had a long night struggling with updating but finally updated my xperia, & album art works and shows up now!!
poetryrocksalot - thank you so much. you are the biggest help, from before i got my xperia till now. my xperia is X1i.
Another question (hopefully the last, for a while anyway lol):
1) Is it possible to make the top bar of the start menu (in windows mobile) NOT show our previous loaded programs? i'd like it so that its a start menu with the programs i pinned.

There is no way to do that...unless you install Windows Mobile 6.5 or unless you install the start menu from Windows Mobile 6.5.
You can also install third party programs:
1) You can try Wisbar Advance which will cost you money, and which will slow down your taskbar
2) You can try quickmenu which is a freeware found the "development and hacking" forum. I really hate this software for some reason.
3) Try the Windows Mobile 6.5 Start Menu...which I hate even worst than quickmenu.
4) I think SPB Pocket Plus has a feature to add clock and battery at the same time on Xperia but you have to pay for it. Try the trial version first. This program causes 0 lag on your devices, and the other features can be disabled if you want.
5) There is application called batti power indicator, which creates a power bar on the top of your screen...or you can you wisbar advance to create a power bar on the top of your screen.

What benefits does Windows Mobile 6.5 have over 6.1? Or is it just the interface?
~~
Few more issues...
1) Apparently when i am in the Media panel, and I click the start menu (or the windows key on the keyboard), I can't use the track pad to move through the menu o_____o
2) Is there a pocket notepad? Why does the Notes app save in it's own format? Wouldnt an official txt editor (Notepad) be more plausible for windows mobile?
3) How do I assign pictures to each of my contacts in SIM card?

The only benefits of Windows Mobile 6.5 is that it is finger friendly.
-The home screen is a poorly made gimmick of Touch Flo 3D
-The start menu is finger friendly but it permanently removes the original start menu that I prefer
-The start menu is ****ing hard to organize and sort... this is the first time I am cussing on this forum because it sucks so ****ing hard (mods if you don't like my non-censorship than please censor it)
-The menus are very finger friendly
Personally, the only reason for me to switch is the finger friendly menus

Windows Mobile doesn't come pre-package with a .txt editing program.
Notes aren't .txt files because you have functionality to add your own drawings and recorded audio. Notes is meant to always be with you.

Gone frm an HD2 mass media storage to HD7...

This is probably by far my biggest drawback to the HD7. I used to use my HD2 as a mass media storage device, instead of carrying a flash drive and a phone that could do the same. I LOVED being able to plug my phone in and having access to all my pictures, files, music ect. My biggest use was an excel spreadsheet that I updates daily with bills paid, confirmation numbers events ect. I plugged my phone in, opened it, made changes, and then saved right on my phone, quick and easy. I use this on the go a lot to look up certain things, which is why I preferred having it in my phone to use Office Mobile on the go when needed.
Now this is a huge pain. My work uses MAC's which we can't download anythign on (only iTunes is on there at least) I usually update this at work ) The only thing I can think of is maybe uploading it to the skydrive, and going online to get it anytime I need it or sending it to my e-mail daily after every change (which could be various times in one day). Instead of opening my excel and opening right up. It will be easier once Excel can open skydrive files directly. But this is still the issue of saving it on my desktop and then uploading it to my skydrive.
This is the only drawback in my eyes for a non removable storage card!!! I didn't think I'd care but being unable to just "open" my memory card to transfer all my pictures, music, videos, files ect that I had my my HD2's card is not making me a happy HD7 user. I don't have a home computer to just use Zune to do all this either.
Does anyone have a simple solution? Do you think that xda developers would ever come up with a CAB to be able to access the phone as a mass media storage device? I realize if they do it will probably be a long wait if they do, but I hope that they can... (I would most definitely "buy that person a beer" with a PayPal donation!)
it seems you may be able to use a OneNote table for that, OneNote already has support for SkyDrive built in, let me know what you think there.

I will check it out and see. I've only had the phone since lats night so I'm still finding my way around the whole thing little by little.
the way to make the tables on the web and desktop versions is to press tab while on a line.
on the phone don't forget to check the option for online sync of oneNote, from within the program I think, if not, it's under applications > office under the main system settings

few problems, user fixable or need to wait for update?

Love Windows Phone 7, don't really love the hardware quality of the HD7. There are a few software issue that I am hoping are user fixable and not something I have to wait for an update to address.
1. Search button behavior in Internet Explorer - it irritates me immensely that when you hit the search button on the HD7, it brings up the Google desktop website. Similarly if you enter text in the address bar it searches Google, not Bing. If I wanted to use Google, I'd have kept my Android device. Is there a way to change this yet, and set the T-Mobile USA HD7 to default to the Bing app and not the Google website? Its especially annoying because the results bring you to mobile formatted pages.
2. This is more of a complaint than a fixable issue until copy and paste comes, but I have noticed that the text type recognition doesn't work all the time. In some places if I click an address it goes to Bing Maps but other times it does nothing, it looks like it highlights the word I touch. I haven't been able to find any pattern in which sites work and which don't, but its frustrating.
3. Sometimes when I get a text message the notification sound plays all choppy. It does seem to happen only where service is bad. Is there a fix for this?
4. Office and Skydrive. Maybe I am just retarded but I feel like there should be a way to access my Office files online, specifically through SkyDrive since I can save to it from Office on the computer. Do I have to have a Sharepoint server to do this? Can I really not access my SkyDrive files?
If I remember more I will post.
Also, is there an ETA for Flash?
I have been playing with the skydrive and I added a few files to it to try and see if I could open them on the HD7. The thing is I can open them but have yet to figure out how to open them with Word on the HD7 so that I can edit them and save them back to the skydrive(copy & paste would be nice...meh...soon I hope). But I opened IE and logged into my Windows Live account and I can open anything I have saved on the skydrive, PDFs, word files, excel sheets, ppt presentation, pictures, etc. Now the only issue is editing those files, I haven't tried sending files Word, Excel, etc. to the skydrive and trying to open them on my PC. Will update later with results of further tinkering.
My issues with HD7
Like many people I love this phone but coming from Windows Mobile 6.5 and donw (isn't that weird to say), this phone is really lacking.
1) The Zune software is crap for lack of a better word. No Smart DJ; No Artist photos; no random track play etc. These are not deal breakers but if you came from the Zune HD like me then you'll feel let down.
2) Font Size. It might just be me, but not being able to set a minimal font size is ridiculous. I use the word ridiculous because even my first pocket Pc phone edition in 2001 allowed font resize.
3) No ability to sync my desktop mobile favs. Yes! I know of the work around but wasn't the point of the new OS to avoid all that crap.
4) I want to be able to sync with my local address book. This whole facebook and windows live thing . . . .Look at it this way, if your contacts are based through FB then if one of those contacts cancels their FB acct then you automatically loose all that data. Of course this is not a MS thing.
4) With my HD2 and HTC Sense, I was used to seeing ALL my FB contact photos. Again not an MS thing but . . . .
5) This is really more of a gripe than anything but the battery icon doesn't tell much. How come I can't see exactly how much juice I have left.
6) Unified Inbox, flash, cut and paste. These are all things MS was kind enough to make us aware off so they get a pass on those.

1. Apparently carriers can change the search engine within Internet Explorer, and we can't do anything about it. Once someone gets access to editing the registry, maybe we will be able to change that. BUT I do have some help for you: Search something in Google, and then scroll down to the bottom, find the "Settings" link. Then you can change it to NOT format sites for mobile phones. That should make the experience better!
2. Addresses have to be in a certain format: #### N Street Rd, Zip Code. Like this address, 6362 N Calle Campeche, 85750. If it doesn't have the zip code after the street, it sadly doesn't recognize it. Hopefully they fix that, it's a great feature otherwise.
3. Idk, never had that happen.
4. You can access your Skydrive files and download them to your phone by going to the SkyDrive website (they have a mobile version), but you can't upload any documents from your phone or upload the changes you make in a doc you download. It has been rumored that SkyDrive integration will be implemented at some point.

1. Yeah, I miss SmartDJ too. I never looked at an artist's pictures however. Their picture does load as a background image, but I know that's not what you're referring to. By random track playing, you mean Shuffle? In the now playing screen, tap on the album art, and then click the shuffle icon.
2. Font size depends on the user of course. I'm good with it as it is, but they should have made an option to change it. Maybe a future update.
3. Eh yeah. I don't use favorites honestly
4. You mean how the HTC Album app in WinMo could access all of your friends online Facebook photo albums, right from their contact card? Yeah I loveeeed that in HTC Sense. I was really disappointed when my WP7 didn't have something like that.
4.2. Umm, if a friend cancels their Facebook account, you don't loose anything that you stored yourself. Just add a contact's info into your Windows Live contacts, it will never disappear.
5. Maybe someone will write a battery percentage app. Idk.
6. I personally can't wait for copy/paste!
7. Microsoft made it decetly clear months ago that there wouldn't be a file explorer.
Thanks for the tips, and I'm really hoping someone figures out how to change the search option. It's annoying when my bosses WP7 (HTC Surround) pulls up the bing app in IE, and mine goes to the Google site. You can remove all carrier and manufacture apps (1 step forward) but can't choose your default internet search while your carrier can (2 steps back.)
Hardware wise, the issues I have are these:
After a couple days, the back and battery color have some discoloration. I don't have particularly dirty or clammy hands, so I don't know why this is. It weirdly also doesn't look like where my fingers actually are, so maybe it's heat related. I've seen similar issues on the Touch Pro and the G2. I think it has something to do with the soft touch material.
There is also a gap between the two pieces of the battery cover. This I have seen on literally every unit I've touched. Mine, my boyfriends, the demo unit at T-Mobile, and the ones at Best Buy.
Likewise, if you press search a little hard, you see like a ripple in the bottom right hand corner. This also was on every device I played with, so it's a general thing.
These things, for me at least, aren't deal breakers, but they are annoying, especially compared to the absolutely astounding build quality of the HD2.
...
anyway.
All of this stuff aside, I must say, my actual general usage experience with the device (again, more WP7 than the HD7 specifically) has been honestly, wonderful.
I've found that in my experience, true to Microsoft's goal, everything just works, and works quickly. Coming from Android (recently, after the HD2 I just couldn't deal with WM6.5) and having had every phone in between (iPhone, Palm Pre, a crap ton of Android phones, even a Symbian phone) I must say that I have had the fewest problems, and most fluid experience of all, on WP7. General usage stuff like calls, texts, e-mail, web browsing, social networking etc. are all just super fast and efficient (with maybe the only exception being Facebook's annoying load time, but its not horribly necessary with the "what's new" section in People. Also, despite some issues (like it taking me a week to realize you can click on the song list under now playing) the media and gaming is hands down the best I've had on a phone.
Ugh, is the T-Mobile HD7 locked into Google?
I thought the whole idea of the Search button was to get quick access to the Bing Search Application. Is this so or is it only the search in IE?
Hoping they'll add a way to change that ASAP.

The T-Mobile US variant of the HD7 works like this, in all places other than a) Internet Explorer or b) app that override the search button (like contacts) when you press the search key it bring up Bing. When in IE, it goes to google.com. When in an app with an override, it searches within that app.

About your part B... that's how the search button is supposed to work, Windows Phone was designed like that. The T-Mobile USA HD7 is only different than other phones in part A.
as a few more days have passed, I also noticed that sometimes the Marketplace will lock up. The phone doesn't, I can still go back to the start screen, use all other apps etc, but when I go into Marketplace again it says loading and then goes back into to start unless I restart the device. Not a big deal, not too common, but still a bug. I think its related to the small freezes while browsing apps when it's loading the icons.
To clarify, you can upload and save your changes to SkyDrive. Simply tap down at the application settings and select synchronize. That will sync any changes with SkyDrive.
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Edit: it just works with OneNote.
But I think if you download excel doc from SkyDrive and make changes it will sync with SkyDrive?

Yep, that's a problem with just about everyone that has an HTC phone. I'm not sure if it affects Samsung and LG too, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does too.
