How long does everybodys battery life last here on average? Because its starting to become a hassle for me to keep a charge on my phone... I unplug y phone every morning at 8am, on my way to work, I plug my phone up to a car charger for about 30mins, then when I'm at work around noon I plug up my phone for a hour... and yet I still manage to kill the battery by 3-4pm... the battery wont even last a full work day, even with getting juice for 1 1/2hrs... thats rediculous in my opinion, 8am-4pm = 8hrs - 1 1/2hrs charging = 6 1/2hrs battery life...
At that rate, I need 4(!!!) batteries to last a full 24hours

Strange, mine lasts about 24hrs (approx) without charging, that's with moderate web usage, games (for about 1 - 2 hours) texting all day and atleast 3 - 4 hours talk time. I'm using the battery my kaiser came with.
Although I have used an assload of tweaks in regards to battery life (turned down brightness, turned off all LED notifications, +used most of the power saving tweaks used in kaiser tweak, then again my sound + vibrations are almost always off except for when i'm sleeping or when the phone is charging, and more i can't think of)
This has been discussed before, so it's worth searching.
Battery life has many variables but if yours is un-usually short then investigate your mail settings, checking every 5 minutes obviously uses more than every 30 minutes.
Check if you have the band switching problem and the solutions for that
Are you killing running programmes, including Active Sync.
Does the phone feel warm (around battery) when it's off the charger. (a sign of an application running but possibly blocked)
So do you kill wifi after using it or if you don't use it then is it running abyway - that will kill the battery. etc etc etc
The above is not a full list but should give some starting points for searches. In general I would expect around a day of low to medium use. If you only get a couple of hours then check the things above.
Mike
How much are you using the phone for bluetooth or wifi or 3g? If not much, then you're right.
I have Alex'x WM 6.1 beta2. It's been a full work day and I still have about 75% battery. I had the stock at&t rom then tried stock HTC rom. The HTC rom had pitiful battery life. I kept it for 1 day in airplane mode and it still died in about 8 hours. The at&t rom lasted about 14 hours. Alex's may last 3 or 4 days. His WM 6.1 gives me the best battery life out of all of his or anyone's rom that I've tried.
hmm well I use an exchange server, so I cant really configure how often it checks mail... I guess it checks constantly... I'm on the phone for maybe 2-3 hrs during work, if even that, i do text alot, and use OctroTalk IM client... Thats about it, i dont play music, i dont watch movies, and I dont play games, dont use bluetooth, but I think it uses the 3G all the time, I'm not sure, it allways says 3G up in top bar...
If flashing it with a new rom can help the battery life, I might consider doing that, is there any other befits from doing so? Over all I've been pleased with the over all performance of the stock rom... except this battery issue.

2-3 hours on the phone!! and constant mail checking!! I don't know about anyone else but for this type of phone I think your battery life is probably normal. I mean that's not far off half a working day on the phone!
Mike
I now understand that there are people who own the Diamond at the moment.
I hear a lot about the battery not being strong enough to last the day.
But then again, some say it does.
I would like for people to test this.
So post here the time you disconnected it from the charger (charged 100%)
What did you do with your phone during the day
- how many calls
- how long were the calls
- sms
- gps
- 3g
ect ect ect.
and what the battery status is when you check it again in the evening.
I think this is the best way to see how long it will last.
And if various users do this (one calls more, one internets more ect)
Then people can compare this with there own phone usage.
Thank you for your inputh
a dutch htc touch, i am still waiting for it. where did you get yours?
i am looking for performance with:
3g off (only connect when using the internet),
no pushmail (a lot of people that complain are using push mail)
no gps
no wireless
no bluetooth
does this mean i actually plan to use this as a phone???????
yes, with the extra of sometimes using internet and gps.
I my self dont have a diamond yet.
I first want to know how bad this battery realy is befor i do buy it.
Will it last 1 whole day, then its ok.
but if it doesnt last 1 whole days (and be able to use it! )
Then i will definitly wait for the Pro
HTC TOUCH DIAMOND BATTERY LIFE for an SMS junkie
UPDATE ON BATTERY REVIEW : I did this test, based on what a student (like me) would probably use. More sms than calls. Here's a rough estimate.
TOTAL HOURS BEFORE KONKING OUT TOTALLY = approximately 9 hours, give or take
TOTAL SMS-ES = 120
TOTAL TALK TIME = approximately 15-20 mins
TOTAL LIGHT GAMING TIME (Hexic) = 45 mins.
Its actually pretty impressive.
My verdict is that with backlight on "auto adjust" and with the dimlight dimming within seconds after not being used, there is a HUGE amount of power saving from running the VGA screen. Also, it could be possible that with its graphic accelerators, gaming also consumed less power than usual.

As another student, that sort of performance will do me!
So the battery only lasted for 9 hours on one full charge?
ok.. i charged my diamond yesterday night at 1030pm.
under locked modes and suspend...
no calls no msg no nothing.. i just left it sleeping there
now 330pm it's still alive at half cell.
Yesterday I used my Diamond for about 15 mins of calls, push email all day, connected to 3g half of the day, browsed the web for 20 minutes on HSDPA, browsed the web for 30 minutes on WiFi, played Teeter for 10 minutes (fantastic game).
By 7pm my battery was still at 50%. I'm happy with that. As a previous mentioned, the auto backlight feature seems to work very well.

different people will get different amount of time, for each person's usage is different.
SMS takes up a lot of power, because for the amount of sms i made, lets say 1 minute to type one sms, thats already more than an hour's worth of HTC Diamond's light being switched on. So it consumes battery
please do understand that your battery will be better after some cycles!!!
I'm busy throttling mine...
Streaming music via WiFi from my laptop, and I'm listening to it via Stereo Bluetooth Headphones.
Surfing the internet or installing and testing a few third party programs at the same time. I've made a couple of 10 minute phone calls, sent 17 e-mails (using push e-mail), and only two text messages.
I'm in a 2G-only area (my living room) with my phone set to "Auto" to supposedly keep searching for 3G. So far it's managed four hours, but I get a feeling it will be turning itself off in about half an hour.
Certainly seems to be getting pretty warm. Hopefully it won't blow up on me when I try and charge it...

is very much in terms of battery drain
and can someone plz use the Battery Benchmark

thanks in Advance
i charged my diamond last night before i went to sleep. i even turned of the phone (flight mode). when i woke up (after 8 hours) the battery was down to aprox. 50 % and my diamond was switched on (screen was illuminated). so i think it must have been on for quite a while during the night which causes the battery to drain.
Thats annoying. It reminds me of my firts days with my tytan. The screen tunred on rendomly as well and drained the battery realy fast.
As stated above the battery seems to get better each time I charge it.
My first charge was hopeless only lasted half a day but each time I charge it, it gets better, its still not amazing battery life but for the size of it and what it does its not too bad.
Can someone post how many hours of music play you can get out of the Diamond?
Yesterday I unplugged my Diamond at 9am.
- it was constantly on Direct Push mail on a 3G/HSDPA network
- I've made around 40 minutes of calls
- I've used Google Maps with GPS active for 15 minutes
- I've transferred 2 albums (around 30 mp3) and listened to music for 20 minutes with speaker on (not headphones).
- I've shown my phone to friends (teeter, touchflo3D, ...) for half an hour
- I had my phone connected to my bluetooth car handsfree for half an hour
- I have surfed the net for about an hour
- Fortunately I didn't have to work yesterday, when I add up the time I've used my Diamond
When I went to bed at 11pm, so 14 hours later, there was 30% of the battery left. I think it's quite good!

That is quite good. I currently get that sort of performance out of my Touch (only roughly speaking, as it doesn't have all of those features). I think that, perhaps, the screen is the big battery drain and that people don't realise how much power they're using while typing texts, hence the differing opinions on the battery. Also, people haven't taken into account the light conditions that they've use the device in - the light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the backlight, as far as I'm aware.
time to charge the battery
slightly off topic:
how long does ist take for you to fully charge your battery?
i am just asking because mine takes about 5 hours to fully charge (phone turned on) and about 3.5 hours (phone turned completely off), with the supplied wallcharger. and this seems to be pretty long for an 900mAh battery.
thanks,

Hi all,
I have been testing (sofar day 5) how long can my HTC Diamond last on standby without needing to recharge.
Phone is constantly on (day and night). It is on standby i.e. screen off, but the power is on. So every time I tap the little power button it shows me how much (%) of the battery is left.
I am on day 5 and the battery is 66%.
Will update tomorrow.
I don't know if anyone done this before, but I am trying to find out, how long will battery actually last in real world (in standby).
Cheers.
Are you just using Flight Mode?
And none of them is turning on ?
1. 2G / 3G phone (stay at one place / moving day & night )
2. Wi-Fi
3. Bluetooth
day 6
DAY6......checked battery status this evening.....52% left.
Phone is on standby (screen off). Everything else is on.
This is just my little experiment. Probably does not make sense to many, but maybe someday, someone would wanna know that, how long the battery lasts this way
to ykwong
sorry did not notice someone has replied.
phone is essentially in flight mode.....phone itself is off (no calls coming in or out)
but, Bluetooth and WIFI is on. Everytime I check for battery status....it notifies me of my WIFI connection.
If your mobile is in standby Wi-Fi and Bluetooth even if they are turned on are in standby too (except when you turn it on to check battery charge) thus they don't consume power.
Ive been testing mine aswell andi've found i lose 6% every 8 hours, thats with minimal use and screen off once used. radio 1.25.00.5 and the offficial 1.93 rom and with settings from shcaps advanced config.
wifi is turned off automatically when in standby mode, and turned on when you activate the phone again unless you've done a registry hack to force it on.
Moreover this test is quite useless as battery life consumption depends on the power of the signal, your battery can easily last half the usual time if the signal is weak and twice longer if you just under a cell

Indeed, thats true.
Battery life is poor
I got Diamond 2 days ago. What I noticed was the battery life is appalling actually. I charged full and with normal usage (ie, 5-6 calls lasting about altogether lasting less than an hour and some pplaying around) it doesnt last more than a day. Battery shows 10% at the end of the day. Is that normal? Or is it just mine. (By the way 3G on, Wifi, bluetooth off)
I charge mine twice a day...
i have to charge mine everyday after work and im not using in THAT much, some calls and checking some mails. the batterytime really sucks, my old phones have loads of better batterytime, so what if i surf some on the net and checking some videos to do i have to charge it every hour or what? really sucks :/
htc has released a new battery for longer standby time. the battery volumn is 1350MA, with a back cover. the price is around 40 pounds.
unlike the third party battery some of us have bought, does the gps still work with this one?

How much volume and weight doe it add up to the sleek diamond? Does it not kill the joy? What will be the difference then b/w diamond and raphael thickness and weight??
day7
today.....power at 43%
to posters: I know that this test may sound pointless to some. All I am saying that someone someday may find this informative.
If you have the phone off, there's no point in this test - at all. When the screen turns off, wifi turns off as well. This would be the most battery consuming application you have, so it would last a long time regardless of battery or phone.
My settings shows fully loaded battery but the ROM update screen tells me that i have less than 50% available. Who is correct? And is there a way to unload the battery totally w/o having the diamond on all the way (already tried, is not working) to refresh it from base? Thanks!
day 8
battery at: 29%
........I will check and finish this test tomorrow , I assume it will we under 20 %
I'm starting such a test myself today, see if I can make it to Monday. I will be using my phone for calling, i.e. the phone function is on (except when I sleep, don't want to be disturbed ), the occasional internet (checking train schedule, maybe using it as a router for my laptop for 5 minutes), and maybe 5 minutes of teeter or something. The average day use I'd say.
Question: how do I see the percentage of my battery charge?
Test starts as of NOW, 15:47 in Amsterdam, which is 13:57 UTC. It's fully charged, so I don't need a percentage reading on this one
Hi Everybody,
I am using my HD2 since 2months and I share with you the general Idea that Battery life of 1-2 days is not enough for a device with the ambition to serve as phone as well.
I am using the device for professional activities: document sharing, webcalendars, emails on the go... but with an internet access not contiguous, since I only want my mobile to donwload mails when I
am not at home or in my office (were I have more professional stuffs
for that).
So, I installed the WMLongLife to Switch off communication interfaces whenever not used.
However, during last couple of weeks it happen to me to work prevalently at home and in my office, without the requirement to use the network from my HD2.
Accidentally I noticed that if I charge the HD2 and never use internet services (but only as a phone: 5-10 calls per day), the battery life magically goes from 1-2 days to 1 Week and more.
Is it normal? Maybe some device is not properly shut down after first use?
Now I charged my mobile on thrsday morning, and after 5 days of use I have still 42% left.
I wish to share your opinion, and to know if there is outside a better software than WMLongLife to preserve batteries when high speed connections, BT and Wifi are not used.
Thanks a lot
It's a phone with a massive screen, bluetooth, wifi, 3G and the list could go on...
I myself, is amazed that it can last a day.
Using it with constant 3G, bluetooth, GPS back and forth at least once a day, e-mails ticking in all the time, bluetooth headset and so forth...
The HD2 is like a small laptop...
- try getting a laptop run a full day on a battery the size of the HD2s.
1 week and more? Wow....
I fully charged the phone last night around 12AM, now after 13 hours most of which is standby, 1 hour of music, and maybe 30 minutes of browsing/playing with it its at 70% battery life. Is this normal?
I dont get 3G and I have wifi and bt off. Any other ideas to conserve battery?
The HD2 is as good, if not better than any other smartphone I've owned. I always recharge my phone overnight, so as long as the battery's good for a day I'm happy. Any bigger battery and the phone would need to be much fatter to accommodate it.
A week sounds pretty optimistic to me.

You could try and turn down the brightness of the screen for one...
I had mine on 100% for the first couple of days, but it just ate the battery like that. Then changed it to 70% (almost can't see the difference) when it's on battery, and that helped a lot!
Then you should perhaps try and download BsBTweaks or something like that, and activate the "power save" option...
Something to do with the SD card or something, not sure...!?
But to be honest, I think it's pretty decent.
13 hours of stand by, 1 hour of playing music and 30 minutes browsing/gaming - and still on 70%.
You have to remember, it's a very powerful device and as such it uses a lot of power!
Again I confirm,
charge this morning is still 25% left and yesterday I used internet connection for 15 minutes, then switch off devices and a soft reset to stop eventually pending drivers.
I do not use HD2 for listening music or playing films: only calls, contacts, synchronized agenda with gcalendar, emails, and internet.
Previously I noticed that after using even once the internet connection (without the soft reset), battery last at most 36 hours.
That is why I suspect some processes/services be pending in background and draining battery low.
Again I am not trying to demonstrate the life of my mobile is longer...
... Just noticed that there are some operational conditions that may prevent higher power drains and to understand if someone else has investigated the point.

I do the same!
Check email one or twice a day. 5/6 calls a day. Wmlong life on. Don't care about 3g... it's set to be in automatic. Some excel and word files. Some sms. It's incredible that such a powerful device can stand by so long!
Otherwise when I use it for work, wi-fi, bluetooth, gps and bla bla, the life of the battery is about 12 hours... but who cares?
9% this morning but still alive with phone interface working...
Do it exists for WM6.5 an extended taskmanager (AKA in the windows style) that can also reports for processes and spent CPU time?
I can barely go a full day and have to charge it at night.
Is anyone else getting really poor battery life? I have Wi-Fi on a lot but with screen off just so it automatically gets my push e-mails. Could this be the reason?
Hi guys, I love my SGS, but the battery life is killing me!!
I've tried 3 different ROMS, but all pretty much the same. I'm now on the 'official' JP6 / JPM. Phone is rooted, and One Click Lagfix running.
Display is set to minimum.
I sync an Exchange account using push. I've turned off gmail and facebook sync.
Using LauncherPro.
Basically, I unplug the phone from the charger at around 7am, and by 5pm it is dead!!
!!
Any suggestions!?

1: change your push-settings for exchange to 30 mins or an hour ( i did too , its better )
2: buy a extra battery
3: bring your charger to work
4: stop playing non-stop with your phone
to sum it up. we cant tell you what u are doing wrong with the small info u gave. you dont give % of battery usage ( liek 60 % display, 20 % standby etc )
all in all, i can say atm. stop push-mail
( i have same prob , i just leave my USB charger @ work lol)
root it again.
Also set phone to 2g mode rather then 3g and install juicedefender with nobars too.

While still charging, open applictaion: Terminal Emulator (it is available on the market for free)
Write:
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
it looks like that nothing really happens, but it does.
Reboote the phone. Important!
You will see the difference. I get from 1 day before to 3 days now.
For doing this, your phone, of course, should be rooted.

eh?
what would you like as a proof?
sure if you live under the antenna consumption may be the same, but 2g is much less processor intensive and has longer range.
so your phone works half as hard in 2g than 3g (both idle and on line)
with just 2g and only using phone features i can go 5-6 days
same usage with 3g goes down to 3 days
and that is with having mobile data off in both cases
2G eats muuuch much less battery. I didn't have 3G for a few weeks, huge difference in battery life.
I use Juicedefender just so that nothing goes on with my phone while the screen is off, only update rss/weather/sync when sync is on.

(On a side note: I'm looking for someone who can help me flash Korean firmware onto European phone so I can get "record call" feature. Thanks)
I manage to get 3+ days of battery time... I have data connection inactive, no syncs, and using a black theme Battery life just improves over time, after like 5 or 6 cycles of charging.
I've had my phone for a little less than 2-3 weeks. While my battery has gotten better with a few full discharge/charges, I still haven't reached those insane battery life times that some have had the luck of having.
I've done the full discharge method a few times. I've also done the "charge (on), unplug, charge (off), turn on for a few minutes, turn off, charge (off), method twice.
I have juice defender to set to keep everything off and only connect for 1 m every 15 m. I have root, but I've removed lagfix.
Yesterday night, I slept for around 6-7 hours. My battery life dropped a full 40%!
Here are my battery usage stats:
Display 44%
Cell Standby 20%
Android OS 14%
Phone Idle 13%
Android System 5%
I'm wondering if my phone or battery is defective and I should ask for a replacement?

Hey, try the 5min evey 2hours, that's what i have and i don't have any issues.
Obviously something is wrong. THis happened to me before, it was because of FB and google sync as well as the widgets constantly synchronizing and using mad data.
Welcome to the SGS.
Typical usuage for my SGS:
0800 - alarm used to wake me up.
0805 - disconnect from charger - full battery
Sync: K9 Mail - once an hour, headers only or messages less than 2Kb.
JuiceDefender: Data connects 5mins every 30 mins, otherwise 3g radio or wifi is deactivated.
Average time on 'phone calls: 10 mins.
Wireless use in work: 20mins max
3G/2G usage: 20 mins.
Brightness set to lowest setting.
Doing the above will empty a fully charged battery by about 1800, or usually sooner.
9 hours of use until empty, when the 'phone is predominately on stand-by.
The wireless and 2g/3g data radios are a real killer. With the data connection of, then I can watch the whole of the Avatar film on the device, and even have some power left over from some 'phone calls.
Solution: Don't use the SGS for data while not running from the mains power. It'll save the battery.
So, don't use the SGS for business. Its an expensive toy that pretends to be mobile, because really one it tethered to an electricity socket. Welcome to Android 'phones. Other than the lag that causes the 'phone to be unresponsive for a couple of mins, I like the device.
check your apps, I used to use widget locker and it'd drain about 30% a night. I dropped it even though I used to love it, I think they pushed out a bad update 2-3 months ago and never made it better.
Hrmmm, I don't have any out of the ordinary apps running. I've made an effort to check all apps and ensure they don't auto sync/auto - update or do so very rarely.
Apps I have:
Juice Defender
AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
Facebook
Whatsapp
Yelp
Uninstalled Tango
Uninstalled Samsung Apps
SMS Time Fix
The rest of my apps are either stock or don't use internet
At some point I shall do a factory reset and start again.
* In most phones when switching from 3g towards 2g will result in +1/3rd increment of batter-life
* Extra launchers(UI) will play a lot with your battery, best is to have only one running, not TW along with launcherpro
* Turn OFF the gps cos i noticed, by keeping it on, that it's a huge drain on the batterylife.
* check apps and be sure none will run in the background with adds (remove them with an add remover)
* flash to jpk and root with oclf, many complain about their roms, but after 130 apps and a month mine is still working splendidly, with maybe and just maybe the lagg once a week. (could be titaniumbackup at that moment)
downloaded a thing and send a few messages and it's at 85% atm, that's after +6 hours of use. (it was at 98% after 4 hours with a few uses)
Ok guys, Dark Steel JP6/JPM, hardly any apps, 1 Exchnge account.
I took the phone off charge at around 10am this morning, now at 6.30pm, down to only 16% left!!
Stats:
Display - 77%
Cell Standby - 17%
Phone Idle - 6%
I don't get this, the battery life is awful!! I've hardly used the phone today. Display brightness is set to absolutely minimum. 30 second timeout, and hardly used, so the screen has hardly been on!
Apps I have:
Flash 10.1
SetCPU
Remote Desktop
LauncherPro
Smart Keyboard Pro
ROM Manager
SGS Tools
Spare Parts
Plus the normal Maps, Navigation, Flash.
GPS Off. 1 Exchange account set to Push. Gmail sync turned off. Bluetooth used for around 30 minutes.
Please help me!!!! I've tried 3 different batteries by the way, so it's not that!
How many charge cycles does it need to sort itself out after deleting battery stats (deleted via clockworkmod recovery)?
Thanks!!!!
Your phone idle is only 6%, something is stopping the phone from sleeping. Give us the reported times for display, idle, e.t.c
