looks like I have made my life's worst decision of buying Diamond.
This diamond sucks battery like leech. The battery drops 25% within 10 mins of talk with
all programs off, only phone functions on. Another few calls ( 10-20 mins) and some config settings the battery is flat at 28%. Guys ! are you facing the same. I did some observations,
It takes appx 460ma + while on call( screen on ) ,
drops to 275ma + while on call when the screen is off.
goes to 440ma + for GPRS ( internet , data etc) ( phone on )
takes appx 150ma + with Bluetooth on (( phone on ))
goes to 175ma+ with WIFI on (( phone on ))
remains IDLE with 50ma+ ( no call phone On)
I am checking this on battery status and Power gaurd.
Please suggest if the above power consumptions patterns are fine....
ROM : 1.37.720.2 WWE
ROM Date : 06/16/08
Radio version 1.00.25.03
Left for work this morning at 9:30 (yes, I was late) with my battery at 100%.
Talked for about 40 min, updated weather 3 or 4 times, read for about 20 min during lunch break.
When I got back home at 18:30, my battery was at 68%.
Please note that I applied most (if not all) of the tweaks found on this site. Oh, and my screen backlighting was on Auto.

Update your ROM and also make sure you use the .05 radio, as it has been shown to be better with battery life.
I find on average my phone will last 2 and a half days or so with moderate usage (i.e. few calls/day, texts, internet, few apps run, bit of gps), you may also consider changing your screen brightness to a low'ish setting as this will help preserve battery life and turning gprs off manually. but I do keep mine on auto brightness and with GPRS on the normal default setting
a friend of mine uses the standard radio (.03) without using any tweaks and his battery lasts about 2 days (he calls a lot of people, uses wifi at least once a day)...
I can't tell my experiences because I'm using tweaks...
I've been having similar problems, with the battery sometimes lasting just 12 hours with no usage at all.
Yesterday, my battery ran completely flat, but today things are loads better (still 50% left after 13 hours, including some calls and browsing on 3G/HSDPA).
I'm starting to think that the problems were being caused by a program running in the background which got killed when my phone battery ran out. I'll do some tests over the next few days to try to find out, but I guess the main possibilities are GSen, Opera, Google Maps, or ActiveSync.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems with any of these apps?

Same here with all the tweaks applied.
My baby will get me through the whole laboral day 8:00am to around 7:30pm.
When I get home batt is around 10% left. I let it die then charge.
On the phone for about 40 30 minutes on various calls.
Weather check twice.
Emails 4 times.
And a quick look at xda-developers.
Works fine, you just have to learn how to manage the Diamond. Im still waiting for a new battery though.
Luck Fellas!

A bit OT, but the Li-Ion batteries doesn't like to die out completely.
I had a phone interview today, around 55 min speaking and the battery dropped from 100% to 70%, so not that bad!

As far as I know it's OK to do a full charging cycle every some time, like once per month or so.
My battery easily lasts 2 days with moderate use
I get 2 days out of mine - note also that battery life improves markedly after a few charging cycles - mine ran down scarily fast the first 2 or 3 days!

This is what I know:
Every battery (doesent matter what kind) has for example 1000 charge cycles that will be 100% Strong. After the 1000 charges the rate starts to fall. You get only 90% after the 1000 charges ect.......
Soooo
You have to make the best out of your charges. The best way of doing this is by drastically cutting of charge sessions. You let it die and then charge it FULLY (and by fully i say till the Diamond tells you its full with its kick a** full circle.
Thats all fellas. Lucks to all!

Same with me. The first two or three days I was barely getting a whole day. I use push email constantly and make regular calls. I occaisonally use GPS. My battery happily lasts two days, although it is very low by the end of the second day. I also turn the phone off overnight.

I found this to be my biggest problem. If I turn this on my battery is fully flat in about 6 hours. Until my new 1800mah battery arrives, i'm back to pop/smtp.
Just to be on the safe side I bought a cradle which also charges a spare battery, an extra ordinary size battery and every night charge the device and the spare. First thing in the morning I swap the batteries over and pack the fully charged spare. Got mine from gpsforless and it cost £17.99 with the spare battery. Bargain.
blimey, that was a bargain considering it includes a spare battery as well!

Got the same one. So far the battery life has not been great but I am hoping it will improve over time as some people are reportin. Will get a 1800 battery for power use.

I had exactly the same problem where my diamond battery barely lasted 3 hours.
Turned out to be a faulty phone, not the battery. Tell tale sign is if the Diamond gets hot below the battery, not the actual battery
when i got this diamond phone last week the battery performance
was bad serving me with less then a day worth of power where i
had to buy a second battery.
now that i have been off from work for a few days (3 days) i finaly
had the chance to cain this phone properly eg. flipping wifi on/off
through out the day listening to shoutcast, lenghty periods trying
to setup LAN, listening music while out on the road and checking
emails, looking on the net, yapping on the phone and sending txt messages.
to my supprise the battery seem to be holding up pretty good. now it
appears to be holding out till the end of the day where before i had to
carry two batteries now i think i can get away with carrying just one.
here are my stupid questions
1, does htc batteries get better performance after multiple charges?
2, did i have a semi faulty battery and now a miracle has happend?
3, am i just dreaming that the more i use the longer the battery stays on?
today i charged the bat. at 9am (ish) and now its 3,45pm. i still have 3 bars
remaining im supprised as from before a few days ago this was not the case.
im using the daimond with no mods and standard battery.

suprised!

hiya mate,
I am going through the same thing. First day I got the phone and battery was awful about 4 hours it lasted me! very shocked. but it is holding out.
I did charge the phone initially for about 12 hours as specified but don't know if that helps.
what i tend to find with new mobiles is that you have to charge fully and then DISCHARGE FULLY the phone numerous amount of times to get it to perform to the best of its abilities. I don't think its anything to do with HTC batteries, just the fact that new batteries have never been used and need to learn!

you are half right. this battery life is improving if you keep charging it but it is not advised to fully discharge them.
the fully charged-fully discharged method was for the old batteries with "memory".
somewhere in this forum, in the trinity forum somebody experimented the two ways of charging-discharging the battery. the conclusion was that it is better to charge the battery anytime, any occasion u have.
Indeed, the battery's performances (and this is applicable to all common batteries) will increase by time until it reaches its max capabilities.
To gain performance, the battery has to discharge and charge very frequently, or better, continuously. I don't really know how the Diamond manages it (meaning if the battery is full, will the device still get power from the battery if it is plugged on, or will it drain power from the cable. It could also drain from battery if it is fully charged and charge it in the same time, or it could simply always take it from the cable and charge the battery in less time)
The reverse is also true, meaning if you don't discharge/charge your battery frequently enough, its performances will decrease by time.
Also, if your battery discharges and charges all the time, it's lifetime will be longer than a battery that is only used once in a week.
I don't know if I made it clear, lol.
By the way, don't think that if you keep charging your battery you will end up with weeks of battery, there is a limit and it is 850mAh on the stock battery, if I remember correctly.
thanks for the tips some say discharging is good and some say dont.
all i know its 8:35pm and i have only used 1 bar from around 4:30
which now leave me with 2 bars. im jumping for joy because normally
by 6pm ish the battery would have already died.
with all the hammering today i cant believe it only took 2 bars in nearly
12 hours and thats with no extra charge from the psu and only 5 usb
connections to the pc to sync and add files totaling 2 - 5 minutes
on each connection.
now i can officially say this phone is "DA BOMB"
time to sell the e90 and e65
The thing that kills the battery on this phone above everything else is the GPS - knocks it out in 90minutes or less. If you were having fun (even for a few minutes) with it in your first few days, this might explain it...

yeha that would explain it but the thing is I haven't even installed TomTom or any other GPS related app!!! weird. but i've had it for about 4 days now and battery does seem to improve slightly on a daily basis.
Is there anyone else here that experience that the batterytime is max 3-4 hours standby?
No, battery time is more than great. I got my X1 last monday and the first three times I charged the battery to full and then let the X1 with full screen light on. This lastet more than six hours!!! Then the X1 shut off itself. The same at the second charging zyklus. Again more than 6 hours of best screen-light before switching off in cause of less power.
This is the best result I evere had at a PPC
guess you'd have to replace your battery. seems to be buggy.
my battery lasts about 6h+ of video playback (700mb, avi, dvdrip)

Wow,
I'm using Sync and wifi. can i't be because?
I got 4-5 hrs with wifi and bluetooth while streaming with the screen on max brightness. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
It's Media Panel
Have you launched the Media Panel?
I noticed that if I used the Media Panel for music playback
the back/battery was getting VERY hot. Not good for its
lifetime . So this Panel consumes a lot of power. I guess
the Xperia developers got some work to do.
Also Wifi needs lot of battery power.
Using both about 4 hours are thinkable.

No, not mediapanel.
Well, i test without Synk and Wifi tomorrow.
That's it. It's Wifi. Having Wifi turned on all the time you
will get these results. It's one of the most battery intense
functions. Only turn it on if you need it. For example,
notebooks with much larger batteries will have much less
runtime (bad english, I know ).
Sync isn't responsible for this. I have an hosting exchange
server running but I didn't notice any effect on the battery.
Hope, I could help.
Diewi
im able to switch my wifi on for 3 hours then music for another 2 hours and 1 and a half hour calls still manage to have 3 bars left on my phone whats wrong with yours?
the battery on the x1 is insanly good compared to the diamond.
(however, when i was charging it yesterday there was somekind of bug that drained the battery when the charger was plugged in, it did not detect the charger after a while, havent checked what it could be, had msn/skype/wifi and the arc slider open )
edit: softreset solved that problem
the battery of X1 is working fine, 10 hours continues use time (for internet + MSN)
WiFi is something that should be only turned on when you are using it. Same goes with BT too infact.
so my accu holds approx. 1 day with music, Games, wifi, video, but I think the accu is already become better as in start in the normal one use he holds 2.5 days
Wow, 8-10 hours without Wlan!
on 2g i got msn/skype running from morning to bedtime, 3pushmail accounts and normal usage, 2bars left of battery at bedtime so its good.
But. i get strange problems when charging the battery and the phone is on. it seams like when the battery is fully charged, it starts to discharge if i not plug out the charger, this morning when i woke up the phone was off but fully charged, it could mean that the battery was charged, then discharged and shut off, then charged again.
a normal businessday: 230 min phone, 30 mails, 15 SMS, bit Internet ....and the Battery is still alive....it´s good enough for me )
sonox
it,s the poor reception that drains the battery, seeking for a signal most of the time..
Since having the X1... Now 1 week... I would have to say its the best battery life on a WM device I have used...
I get approx 2days of usage without charging... which I think is good.
Cheers

yes it consume a lot of battery, more on 3g than on 2g, if you think its a problem. just increase the time to 30min or so.
i dont know why... but the battery of x1 lasts only a day!
and when i think about... i'm pretty much a light user.
i dont use the wifi and 3g at all.
the brightness level of the screen is the lowest.
i play music about 2 hrs with the earphones.
i hardly use any apps except for windows media player.
that also about the 30 mins the most.
i only use the internet about the 30 mins the most.
bluetooths off.
i always close any open app that is there via the htc taskmanager
i using the htc touchflo ui.
i take about 25 pictures at the most and no video recording.
maybe the settings of my phone is somewhat wrong.
maybe i missed something.
so anyone.
please help me...
any advice? any tips?
Then you have a normal battery usage
Wich wm do you use wm6.1 or wm6.5 ? i noticed better battery life in wm6.5 if i don't do anything on the phone the battery lasts for max 2 days but only if i really do nothing on the phone. i have to charge my phone every night.

these are the batt killers
if you stop doing those it can last 3 days
but as with all such devices charging them a bit every chance you get
is good for then and give you a longer batt life
it charge using a miniUsb which is everywhere otherwise you can
get one to carry around in a shop for a few $£€
so any computer with usb can be your temp charge station
Okay, I've got some advice for you maybe. I have just flashed my phone from R2A to R3A nad haven't installed too much applications yet, only PocketShield, Resco Explorer and Spb Phone Suite. I notice a strong increase in battery life compared to the old R2A with sooo many apps (Although basically none were running in background, at leats not ones you would think that they consume much power). So I don't know if it's the apps or the ROM but my battery lasts about 75% longer, which is approx. 40 hours total. I have about the same usage you are describing.

sorry but htat battery life is in standby mode. calling uses not that much battery life because the screen is turned off. if you using ur phone extremly thna the battery will drain very fast. with winmo 6.5 teh battery life is 2 days but i dont't take pictures i listin to music about 1 hour and sometimes i'm surfing on the net with it. it checks every 1 hour for emails.
i had so many wm phones and all failed the battery life. they had all short battery life ofcourse i want my phone to last 3 days with the same usage like urs. thats why i have a spare battery with me always.
the battery will drain also faster if you using a lot of apps in the backgound. with a clean rom the battery life is longer than that i install a lot of stuff on it.
So my conclusion is that the battery life will be different for each person. if you think ure battery isn't good than i would say go and buy mugen battery 1800Mah i did it to and i'm happy now.
I did some tests with the original SE battery when i don't do absolutely Nothing with the phone and its in standby the phone battery lasts easy for 4 days
OMG.. 1 day is not enough? OMG!!!
Makes me wonder why we sell Xperia in countries, where they have no access to electricity..
Well, I can recommend buying another phone, or even phone with some solar charger, if you have no access to electricity. Or another battery would do fine.
Myself, I use WIFI a lot in my work, call about 2-4 hours a day and sometimes i'm listening music while walking home. I charge it overnight (yeah I'm lucky guy livin in Europe with access to electricity).
And sometimes it makes me wonder, that people expect the battery to be like nuclear power plant - once you start it, it'll never stop giving you electricity. Cmon, you have 500Mhz CPU, big screen, GSM+3G running at once. Then you can turn on WIFI, GPS and the CPU goes 100%. 1 day is not enough? Jeesh.. Show me a device which lasts more than one day WHILE USING IT (so calls, messages), with normal battery (no nuclear power plant, please! ) and I'm yours
Some people (no offence!!) should return back to Earth
To save some battery, turn OFF 3G if you're not using it. But that'll give you just few hours, which won't save you that much.
2 Hours of GPS use sets me to nearly 50% battery gone!

Hmm.. i'm not quite sure right now how about X1.. But if I am not mistaken, few months ago I tried GPS with phone OFF and it worked EXCEPT TomTom. It found sats, but TomTom refused to accept it. But geocaching app worked.. Will try tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
Not sure about sat navs, don't have one. My parents do, but they always plug it into the car as far as I remember. But I don't think any sat nav will last several hours with battery, when there is CPU clocked crazy high, bright screen and also the GPS chip itself (not mentioning that the heat will decrease the battery life).

which i still find... very less!
Hi Everybody,
I am using my HD2 since 2months and I share with you the general Idea that Battery life of 1-2 days is not enough for a device with the ambition to serve as phone as well.
I am using the device for professional activities: document sharing, webcalendars, emails on the go... but with an internet access not contiguous, since I only want my mobile to donwload mails when I
am not at home or in my office (were I have more professional stuffs
for that).
So, I installed the WMLongLife to Switch off communication interfaces whenever not used.
However, during last couple of weeks it happen to me to work prevalently at home and in my office, without the requirement to use the network from my HD2.
Accidentally I noticed that if I charge the HD2 and never use internet services (but only as a phone: 5-10 calls per day), the battery life magically goes from 1-2 days to 1 Week and more.
Is it normal? Maybe some device is not properly shut down after first use?
Now I charged my mobile on thrsday morning, and after 5 days of use I have still 42% left.
I wish to share your opinion, and to know if there is outside a better software than WMLongLife to preserve batteries when high speed connections, BT and Wifi are not used.
Thanks a lot
It's a phone with a massive screen, bluetooth, wifi, 3G and the list could go on...
I myself, is amazed that it can last a day.
Using it with constant 3G, bluetooth, GPS back and forth at least once a day, e-mails ticking in all the time, bluetooth headset and so forth...
The HD2 is like a small laptop...
- try getting a laptop run a full day on a battery the size of the HD2s.
1 week and more? Wow....
I fully charged the phone last night around 12AM, now after 13 hours most of which is standby, 1 hour of music, and maybe 30 minutes of browsing/playing with it its at 70% battery life. Is this normal?
I dont get 3G and I have wifi and bt off. Any other ideas to conserve battery?
The HD2 is as good, if not better than any other smartphone I've owned. I always recharge my phone overnight, so as long as the battery's good for a day I'm happy. Any bigger battery and the phone would need to be much fatter to accommodate it.
A week sounds pretty optimistic to me.

You could try and turn down the brightness of the screen for one...
I had mine on 100% for the first couple of days, but it just ate the battery like that. Then changed it to 70% (almost can't see the difference) when it's on battery, and that helped a lot!
Then you should perhaps try and download BsBTweaks or something like that, and activate the "power save" option...
Something to do with the SD card or something, not sure...!?
But to be honest, I think it's pretty decent.
13 hours of stand by, 1 hour of playing music and 30 minutes browsing/gaming - and still on 70%.
You have to remember, it's a very powerful device and as such it uses a lot of power!
Again I confirm,
charge this morning is still 25% left and yesterday I used internet connection for 15 minutes, then switch off devices and a soft reset to stop eventually pending drivers.
I do not use HD2 for listening music or playing films: only calls, contacts, synchronized agenda with gcalendar, emails, and internet.
Previously I noticed that after using even once the internet connection (without the soft reset), battery last at most 36 hours.
That is why I suspect some processes/services be pending in background and draining battery low.
Again I am not trying to demonstrate the life of my mobile is longer...
... Just noticed that there are some operational conditions that may prevent higher power drains and to understand if someone else has investigated the point.

I do the same!
Check email one or twice a day. 5/6 calls a day. Wmlong life on. Don't care about 3g... it's set to be in automatic. Some excel and word files. Some sms. It's incredible that such a powerful device can stand by so long!
Otherwise when I use it for work, wi-fi, bluetooth, gps and bla bla, the life of the battery is about 12 hours... but who cares?
9% this morning but still alive with phone interface working...
Do it exists for WM6.5 an extended taskmanager (AKA in the windows style) that can also reports for processes and spent CPU time?
I can barely go a full day and have to charge it at night.
Is anyone else getting really poor battery life? I have Wi-Fi on a lot but with screen off just so it automatically gets my push e-mails. Could this be the reason?
