What's the BEST ROM OUT THERE?
Criteria:
- Stable
- Works (incl. BT, WiFi, phone, everything!)
- Fast
- Compatible (e.g., most if not all apps will run)
I'm giving my vote to SuperRom 1.1, becouse this is a fastest ROM, also evrything works.
I guess this is as good a place as any:
I've been using (actually, reverting to) Molski 2.26 Final. For people that have used both, what are the positives of SuperROM 1.1?
(for the purposes of discussion, maybe it would make sense to group all of the ROMs as follows: 1) AKU2.X, 2) AKU3.X, and 3) Crossbow... someone post if I have that wrong)
Super ROm 1.1
With this rom, device runs faster but I have a call dropped so I have to go back to Molski 's ROM
My opinion is wm6 its Stable, Works: BT, WiFi; phone, Fast, Compatible: most or some apps will run but barebone at the start, could for some one that wants to add the programs they only like
i've tried molski's, superRom, aku 3.3 crowbow and WM6 and i'm sticking to aku 3.3 for now cuz inspite of the memory leak problem, it's the most comprehensive rom, everything works and pretty fast too
for the superROM, wifi wasn't working..
for WM6, too much to customize to what i want to have.. plus i'm lazy.. so i'm gonna wait for the xda team to come up with a cooked WM6 rom sooner than later

does wifi with wpa-psk/tkip work for you?
My Vote was for the AKU3.3 crossbow via Faria, Molski, Dr Put, Kyphur and I think the other one RkWhite.
I had had no problems with it. It is fast stable and just great & light for me.
I like the Wm6 also. But could only vote for the best so 3.3 it is !
liked the molski 2.26, the superrom was striking, but aku 3.3 by the masters of xda-dev blew me away, despite the mem leak i think its the best, and hoping that the issue on the leak be fixed soon
For me the Cingular 2.25 ROM has been gold. Nothing has beaten it yet!
i can download each and every rom from ftp site but can anyone tell me from where i could download wm6 rom!! i m running now aku3.3 rom but i want wm6 rom pls help !!
best rom = aku 3.2 molski.biz
So far, I've installed nearly all roms listed, and here is my feedback :
other : old orange FR AKU1.x and old orange FR B2B AKU2.0 => too slow, many stuff that I don't use and too many stuff to add afterwards
T-mobile 2.26 : only used to get strong IPL/SPL as dscribed in unlocking guide. Same problem as orange roms concerning the stuff provided
Superrom : very fast but CF2 not included and stuff I did'nt use, but very good rom so far
molski 2.26 final 30 mb : very fast. problems with smartskey behaving strangely and some info not displayed (eg. amount of space available on storage or card when installing apps)
AKU 3.3 Xbow : very important memory issue (5 mb free after a few hours running, 3 to 5 SR a day) fast and well-stuffed by the way...i'll go back to it if memory issue becomes fixed
Xbow : not many stuff I use in Rom, so plenty of things to install afterwards, and because MSVC 6 in rom, i could'nt install the french version. As I'm french and using MSVC a lot, not being able to install it was determinig in downgrading to.....
Molski 3.2 30 mb : the best rom so far 4 me, very stable, very fast even with no OC, no problem with smartskey, free ram > 22 mo after 3 days of use w/o reset AND MSVC6 and all my usual stuff work flawlessly.
Molski 3.2 by far the best so far. Absolutly no problems.
WM6 is the fastest but lots of problems...
I can`t wait for a Molski ver of WM6.
AKU3.2_Clean_ZeroXtreme at this moment. It's the fastest and cleanest of the AKU 3.x roms I've found on the site. I don't care for all of the eye candy of the cooked ROM's.
I was using Crossbow for a few days. However, I kept getting battery drain issues and decided I'd had enough. I'll probably try it again shortly for ****s and giggles, because I liked it a lot.

Interesting your observations on WM6 ...
The only "problem" I've encountered is SlingBox (which I personally don't use)
Things like HTML email; call history from within my contacts; download attachments actually downloads attachments, saving a step are really cewl and useful.
Just my two cents...
WM6 All the way
I always load all my own apps etc so I like a clean rom.
HTML Mail and the Smart dialler etc are the clinchers for me.
There are lots of little things I find in this rom as I use it that make it way better than WM5. for example when saving a number from your call list WM6 has an option on the top of all your contacts to create a new contact and add the number to that and that when I open the keyboard the SIP stays hidden and does not pop up like on WM5.
Jules
The problems on WM6 were: no MMS, no Camera, battery no more then 1 day, crash, freeze, etc... i tried PDAviet4 (no email sync, no live mail, etc ) and Wi6ard. No aditional software added... Did you use another WM6 ROM?
Those problems i only had on WM6, AKU 2.x and 3.x were fine.

MMS can be solved with ARCsoft MMS. Working fine on my imate
Camera fixed - Solution provided by Faria.
for the rest, I am sure that it has to do with the software you use. I didn't notice any dramatic difference in battery life. I can get about 3 days which is about the same as with other roms. I didn't experience ANY crashes or freezes.
The MMS fix did not work and i stop looking, Faria`s camera cab i cannot find... the rom crashed with no soft just using explorer and media player... I realy like the speed and looks of WM6 so i would not downgrade if those problems coud be solved easily.
Faria ROM for now.
I really really liked the "clean" WM6 ROM, but the damn thing kept draining my battery within a day...
Thought I had it working for a day or two, but then the draining began again
Hopefully Molski of Faria will release a proper WM6 ROM, because the WM6 Smart Dialer app is GREAT!
Hello, I am as green as grass when it comes to this stuff. I just loaded Molski's 2.26 Rom and i am so happy with the way it works compared to the stock rom. But Now i hear he has a new Rom. Now when it comes to this stuff, i really dont have a clue. So i want to find out from the experienced people out there. Which Rom is better to use Skype, and Slingmobile, as well as the internet. Which ever it is Molski is the man.
2.26 is quicker in my experience (I don't know what other users do but I just open the windows folder with each rom I use to see how long it takes to open)
3.2 has all the same molski tweaks progs etc but the difference is the aku, see this link (first google i found) for an idea of aku differences

Depends individually some roms work for some people and some dont. Its a personal choice.I use moliski last edition(2.26) and have had no problems with it till now.Try some of them and which ever suits you the best.....
I mean right now everything is working perfectly. But because this is his new Rom, should i upgrade to the new Rom, or will i lose something i have now. Like i said i am very new to this stuff, and i still use my Nextel i 1000 plus, because it still works. So if it will just improve what i have then i will change, but if it will take away something i need to use Skype, slingmobile, and the internet. Then i will just stay put. Clueless.
I'm running stock WM6 Rom ATT the second release with Hard SPL 3.56. I really like WM6 because I feel it is snappy, Spb phone suite works so no issues with ringer profiles, the GPS signal locks in faster.
I have tried a the HTC 6.1 ROM and many of the popular fancy cooked ROMS here. Although they look nice and have the 'wow' factors but too many small issues.
Just wanted to get your point of view of this.
wicked fast winmo 6.1
You need to flash Athene OS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470370
*extremely* fast - not as flashy as other OS's, but if you are trying to do real work (tm) with your device, then this thing will impress you.
I found the stock ATT 6.0 ROM to be slow and frustrating. I have a lot more speed with cooked ROMs. The ROM I have now, eOS.4.888, works great with SPB programs (I have nearly all of them). This is a very basic, frills-free ROM, and I have customized with SPB programs. It's so nice to have a snappy response from the phone!

Yup! Athene ROM is very clean and fast. I also recommended -G- ROM
Stock At&t is the last choice if you are looking for "fast"
I am on wwe 6 fine tuned with kaiser tweak and sktools + all those camera, ie, etc. fixes. never been happier.
no problems at all with 3rd party soft, gps or how snappy it is. the ONLY thing that I like bout 6.1 better is how phone app is starting. much quicker and no drawing in parts.

Using Hyperdragon III, and loving it
I'm still enjoying a 6.1 rom (the last Hyperdragon III beta, Jan 6).
It works better than anything I've used so far.
Before that I was enjoying a -G- ROM, but had too many brain farts eradicating M2D.
Preferring the "Choose and add your favorite interface, orleave it plain." ROMs.
Built for speed
Hi All,
I have had my Touch HD for about 6 months now with the standard Orange ROM, I updated to the latest 1.59 Orange ROM last week but am interested in updating to one of the custom efforts out there to see what they are like.
I have no problem with performing the update but there are so many ROMS to choose from and i was hoping i could piggy back on the opinions of the forum members to help me choose which one to use.
I am mainly a business type user so i only use my phone for:
Making calls - Obivously
Organising appointments
Listening to music
Using TomTom
I do not use the phone on the net generally, i occassionaly watch video on there but not too bothered about that.
So I am looking for a ROM with the best calendar & contact functionality, would like a ROM which inlcudes voice recognition for my contacts without me having to set them all up myself (as in the stock ROM) if possible. Obviously i would like this to run as smoothly as possible, especially with TomTom and with nice, stable bluetooth/WiFi connectivity.
Look forward to your comments !
Cheers
Mark
if you want a WM 6.5 ROM id try one from Energy maybe?
can view his post here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524032
but if your happy with WM 6.1 i would go with Miris 6.1 - manila 2.5 rom (its the one i use)
link here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547278
but it all depends on what you like i find.
Opionated threads are generally frowned upon and closed in XDA as everyone is different, therefore having different opinions, likes & dislikes.
Best advice I can offer you is do a little research, see what criteria in a rom your looking for:
*wm6.1 or wm6.5
*manila 2.0, 2.1 or 2.5
*lite or heavy rom (i.e. no apps or loads of apps)
Also have a look at this benchmark thread. Once you have decided what criteria you want, try a few roms which fit the bill and make your own conclusion of what best suits you, after all, only you can do this!!
Hi everyone, Not been here in awhile, lots has moved on
I am after a Windows Mobile 6.5.1 Rom for My T-Mobile Compact IV (Touch Diamond) but need a recommendation.
I am looking for a Rom that has the following features still in it:
> QuickGPS
> YouTube
> RSS Hub
> Voice Dialing
> Remote Desktop
> Facebook app would be nice
> Windows Live Messenger
> Opera
> Latest (or as close as poss) HTC TouchFlo3d
> Preferably the Manila theme
> Internet Sharing
> Also would like it to be as close as possible to the Official rom as in looks feel and functionaility (ie programs etc) but hopefully improved speed/stability
Oh and I will need to get My TomTom working on it so if that requires something that is part of the OS that can't be removed. Also whats this MTTY? Before I have just use hardspl to use roms is this an alternative???
+ I install Skype as well...
Or would you recommend win mo 7 rom? To be honest I would prob rather stick to 6.5.1 and goto 7 with a new device. Maybe the Diamond 2....
Must be stable as possible and english - I have done plenty of flashing roms on my phone as I have had a few problems with some but not touched 6.5 as of yet (or a 7 release)
Want to begin flashing Sunday, But the other reason for stable is I want the least risk of bricking my device as its the only phone I have and can't afford a new one :-( Waiting for my contract to run out next year....
Is anyone kind enough to be able to recommend a rom to me please?
you mean you want a rom with all those programs included
or just a rom which support those programs when installed?
and wm7 is not out yet not even in beta
Good Morning,
I am looking for those programs to be included in the rom.
Also I know Win7 not released but I thought there was some sort of rom here with win7 leaked or something etc.
Well, I think it's not yet the time for WM6.5.1, at least in Diamond.
I've already tried some rom, result is switching back immediately.
In my opinion, there're so many bugs in 6.5.1 that these cooked roms can't fit for a daily use.
I'm realy love 6.5.1, especially its taskbar. Hope Microsoft will soon release official WM6.5.1 which is more stable than those rom we have.
i've been using BSB 6.5.1D lately and it works like a charm
Yeh I saw the BSB one but wasn't sure about it, I quite like the look of this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563245
The one titled 'Windows Revolution Manila Edition'
however it has the RSS Hub and RemoteDesktop removed when I want both of them, actually I prob could live without them both. Has anyone thoughts or advice on this rom? Might give it ago later.
I have downloaded the one I linked to but The WWE Clean B version and I'll install the Manila and Remote Desktop, has anyone got a cab for the RSS Hub?
Why don't you try lite/native rom and install whatever you want ?
I'm running CDMA on Sprint, so I am not sure how the GSM version performs in comparison however, I personally have had great luck with EnergyROM, running NRG's October 25th build on 23081.
That being said, there are several people on the forums complaining about lockups on their devices while using this ROM, in particular, when accessing messaging through manila. I however, have yet to experience these problems.
The battery settings do need a bit tweaked though, I personally used the CAB file located at the bottom of this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1077887&postcount=6356.
Looking over what you were looking for in a ROM, this does contain all of those, except voice command, which he does have a link for on his ROM page (At least, once again, for the CDMA diamond build)
It might be worth looking into, as the build and presentation of NRG's ROMs do feel very professional. But in the end, it comes down to playing around with various ROMs to see what works, and what dosn't.
Hope I helped!
Edit : His thread over here hasn't been updated since the Sept 20th build (Which had issues), the thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517300
However, the hotfile link for his downloads from that thread, ( http://hotfile.com/list/93325/99ab7ab ) does appear to have the newer Oct 25th build on it. Once again, I recommend trying it out, but it isn't for everyone. When it comes to ROM's, everyone has their own taste and preference, it would seem.
