ROM Recommendation - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi All,
I have had my Touch HD for about 6 months now with the standard Orange ROM, I updated to the latest 1.59 Orange ROM last week but am interested in updating to one of the custom efforts out there to see what they are like.
I have no problem with performing the update but there are so many ROMS to choose from and i was hoping i could piggy back on the opinions of the forum members to help me choose which one to use.
I am mainly a business type user so i only use my phone for:
Making calls - Obivously
Organising appointments
Listening to music
Using TomTom
I do not use the phone on the net generally, i occassionaly watch video on there but not too bothered about that.
So I am looking for a ROM with the best calendar & contact functionality, would like a ROM which inlcudes voice recognition for my contacts without me having to set them all up myself (as in the stock ROM) if possible. Obviously i would like this to run as smoothly as possible, especially with TomTom and with nice, stable bluetooth/WiFi connectivity.
Look forward to your comments !
Cheers
Mark

if you want a WM 6.5 ROM id try one from Energy maybe?
can view his post here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524032
but if your happy with WM 6.1 i would go with Miris 6.1 - manila 2.5 rom (its the one i use)
link here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547278
but it all depends on what you like i find.

Opionated threads are generally frowned upon and closed in XDA as everyone is different, therefore having different opinions, likes & dislikes.
Best advice I can offer you is do a little research, see what criteria in a rom your looking for:
*wm6.1 or wm6.5
*manila 2.0, 2.1 or 2.5
*lite or heavy rom (i.e. no apps or loads of apps)
Also have a look at this benchmark thread. Once you have decided what criteria you want, try a few roms which fit the bill and make your own conclusion of what best suits you, after all, only you can do this!!

Can anyone cook me a rom? Be happy to buy a crate of beer for someone who can?

Ok......
I bought my X1 in Taiwan, with the intention of flashing to an english rom, because i obviously haven't a clue about chinese, and english langue ones are not available here.
I've been flashing custom roms for a while, both on the X1 and on my old Wallaby and Ef's but havent found anything that ever really suits my needs.
I like the windows 6.5 roms, but WVGAfix doesnt seem to work with any of the builds despite saying it does which kinda makes all 6.5 obsolete for me because of the amount of software that doesnt work with a WVGA screen.
Which leaves 6.1. I have tried loads different 6.1 builds, but find there are certain things that always stop me wanting to keep them.
So my question is can anyone build a rom that is almost a light rom, that just has a few essential elements built in. One that might last me a couple of months, or at least until Mobile 7 is released as opposed to reflashing every few days. I have looked into cooking, but simply dont have the time with work to really get good at it. It drives me nuts having to reinstall everything and sync contacts every time i flash a new rom.
If i was going to build my own ROM i would be looking for a lite and fast 6.1 build that has to me what i would consider some essential apps cooked in.
Manilla
USB popup
Advanced config
Radio
Audio Booster
Htorch
All the finger friendly features
Xperia R3A Camera to replace the HTC camera within manilla.
MSN Push mail (not messanger)
Specifically i would really like to avoid all the things that are updated regularly, such opera, youtube, facebook, google maps etc, and all the things which would seem to me to be a waste of space / speed, such as
MP3 trimmer, panel manager and additional panels.
Basically a stripped lite Rom, with manilla and its associated features.
I have tried flashing lite roms, and installing manilla, but its a real hastle, and never gets as good a results as some of the outstanding chefs here. I can't be alone in wanting a rom like this? so i guess my last question is....is anyone up for the task or am i about to get flamed for something i should be doing myself?

I don't do custom rom for others but my medium rom seems to fits most of your requirement. (How can you call it a "lite" rom if you need manila that has thousands of file?)

I was just going to recommend you trying Jack's Medium

hee hee, I will recommend yrs and Itje's if he is asking for 6.5.
Oddly enough i have just tried Jacks 3.6 medium rom and its very fast.....i like it......keep testing for a few days and see how it goes, but looks real good so far!!
Jack - You're right in that i suppose with manilla in it isnt a light rom, but i would define anything that goes into a light rom as something that is necessary for the operation of the phone. As windows mobile 6.1 is BUTT ugly and finger unfriendly, i would classify manilla or equivalent as something that is pretty necessary!

I tend to think otherwise, you're right with wm6.1 being finger unfriendly. And there is lots of stuff (ie manila, spb mobile shell, eg) that can help you with that. And the choice is rather personal, something you would add later into a lite rom according to your needs.
(little remark, I'm not a manila fan so maybe a bit judged)

Can any Kaiser veterans suggest some software?

Hi.
I have a HTC TyTN II and would love to nail down what software I should use, and if any of you pros could help me out I would really appreciate it.
My goal is to run the latest [stable/fast] Windows mobile 6.5 release with the highest functioning Android build on top.
From what i've seen my choice is this ROM: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767 - ahmedfikry wm6.5 light rom v28217
From the thread it seems there aren't any glaring bugs. This is the latest WM build correct? What is the difference between the 23XXX and 28XXX branches of WM 6.5?
I notice it's a 'light' build which is fine - can you suggest any 'must have' or 'replacement' apps that would improve usability? EG; TouchFLO, a utility to access more settings, a replacement browser[Skyfire/Opera], a utility that automatically closes open programs, program to save battery life - anything like that - I want to avoid 'bloat' like some 'loaded' ROMs have and not have useless duplicate programs, speed and usability is preferred over eye candy [the exception being any great games that run on kaiser ]
Any suggestion on a GPS software that does not require a data plan? I may be limited since i only have a 2GB SD card.
And as far as ANDROID goes I believe i'm looking at the DONUT builds since I want sleep/camera/wifi (don't care about bluetooth) - [is DONUT the build with the most functions?] - which is the 'fastest' / 'lightest' of the DONUT builds that still has the highest amount of features working?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587116 - Hero blend?

I apologize in advance if any of my questions were very nooblike, but thank you for your patience!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Thank you for moving my thread to the appropriate subforum, I had posted in the ROM section as I had assumed that most cooks and those familiar with ROM quirks would be browsing that section and be able to answer the questions I had.
This ties in loosely with what I was going to ask, so I'll reply as well. I just inherited a TyTn II from work, needed constant recalibration so I don't know if it has a hardware or a software fault. Software is easier to fix, I just want to throw on a base package with a good app selection. My ideal is to keep it as fast as it can be.
As I understand it, the Kaiser/TyTn II doesn't have enough grunt to run WiMo 6.5 OR Android 2.1 at an acceptable level. Is this correct? From what I have seen, all the cool stuff doesn't yet work on Android, any version. If I wanted to develop for the project, then I'd put Android on, but I want my phone to "just work"... well, as well as a WiMo phone can.
I'm willing to accept WiMo 6.1, maybe with skinning, etc.. heck it's a free phone, just needs a battery, stylus, and maybe a new digitizer and interpreter board(whatever that bit is called). For me and what I do, I'd be after the following stuff:
video/audio player
SSH/PuTTy type shell access
RDP/VNC
GPS mapping, turn by turn stuff
Facebook/Twitter integration/applications
Don't know if any/all of this stuff is included in any of the baked ROM's out there... Have I just missed a nice table of each available ROM, and what it has to offer?
Does Win6.5 / Android really take more horse power?
If so I may consider the latest 'official' 6.1 ROM - but i was hoping that 6.5 actually would be optimized/improved for performance over 6.1.
Here is the deal with WM 6.5 and Android. The Kaiser is an old phone, 2+ years since release, but that translates to 10+ in phone years. There are no " official upgrades " nor will there be. The Kaiser was left behind by the Raphael and even more now by the Rhodium.
All the 6.5 and Android roms on this site are all " cooked " (hacked ) roms , cooked up by various chefs here at XDA. They have taken dumped roms from other phones and have taken out the crap and have added better features . They are faster by virtue of less carrier and HTC crap in them. But they are still " hacked " versions and need to be considered beta versions.
First your phone has to be unlocked and Spl'd. " Jailbroken " if that iis a more familiar term. And then reflashed with the rom of your choice.
Android will not run on the Kaiser, a hacked version must be run off of a partitioned SD card and on top of WM, so naturally it runs a a high resource cost and very tenuously at best.
There are some very nice, fast and stable roms out there to run after you have unlocked your phone, that blow the doors off of any " official " rom. Check the rom dev page for roms with features and looks that interest you. And check peoples signatures for what people are running.
I use stylez black v4 for my everyday rom and jjblasters 6.5 rom when I want to run a " hey look at me and my cool 6.5.3 rom running on a Kaiser " rom
My TyTN II is an unlocked version (from Taiwan) - and i've already experimented with flashing ROM's successfully - just looking what software to choose for my 'final build'
It was my impression that ANDROID didn't run on TOP of WM but was bootloaded from within WM and afterwards WM would be closed? Is this incorrect?
What is the difference between the 23XXX and 28XXX branches of WM 6.5?
Any popular or recommended 'lite' UC packs?

Hey, I can confirm that the 1.6 build is stable and working wine, and yes it boots from the sd card. I have a class 4 card 2gb and it is quite smooth, but they do recommend a class 6 card. So for me there is no performance issue.
As to the wm 6.5 question: I have ahmedfikry's light rom with Opera added, and it is smooth, fast, nice and all that jazz. No worries, the difference between 23xxx and 28xxx i do not know.
Best of luck, much fun to be had.

Regarding the abouve question - so I think I am going to 'SD' install Android Polymod 'on top' of ahmedfikry wm6.5 [unless you suggest another ROM meeting my needs] (I don't want to NAND Android until all the features I want are working flawlessly)
There is no speed difference in OS operation between SD an NAND install besides initial boot time correct?
How would you choose to switch between the OS when you have WinMo + an SD Android Installation?
And again any recommendations for a nice UCPack that won't sacrifice any speed / add duplicate functionality bloat?
I've been doing nothing but testing different roms and androids for my Kaiser for the past few days.
Ive also tried both SD and NAND install of Android (polymod).
But I must say that it runs much faster on NAND than SD. (Dunno if my SD card is just slow or not. 4 gb.)
Right now I am using HyperDragon 6.5, Im quite impressed by it.
(This is for all android builds I could find: )
But I do indeed enjoy Android more, but I got some big problems with it.
The battery was drained so much quicker + didn't show real battery status.
And I had various luck dialing. Sometimes it just wouldn't work, which was why I changed back to Winmo.
I haven't tested polymod 2.1d on sd, but its 2x faster with polymod 2.1d on nand than polymod 2.1g on SD.
The one who performed best was Warm Donut, but lacked some stuff.
The battery time was about the same with power savings on. Poor.
Lacking the ability to dial with Android made me change, but I enjoy the OS more than WinMo.
My next phone will be with Android, but thats going to take some time.
hello aznphatb0i
thanks for your message
Kaiser can run wm 6.5 great after being "unlocked" to flash cooked roms
my roms here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767
i keep cooking the newest & update the links there
are the newest from COM 5 branch with finger friendly user interface (larger bottom bar with start flag on bottom left)
latest now is 23563
there are other COM branchs out there, but i do not cook them, some cause bugs..others from COM2 are new with small bottom bar (older look) but i do not cook them because i like the interface of COM 5 better
My roms are "light" to be fastest & allow most free space.. all additional applications to be added by cabs according to user prefernce
all the links for the cabs & what they do are in the first post in my thread
as for GPS, i use TOM TOM & iGo 8 ...both run fine & loaded on 2 GB card
I do not have much to say about Android, i like windows OS...when Andriod is perfected later I may consider looking into it
if you like my work & appreciate the time & effort i put into this...please DONATE by clicking the link below in my signature
hope this helps

Which ROM?

Hi everyone,
I'm the (proud?) owner of a HTC Blackstone 'Touch HD', and nowadays I don't know what to think about my phone. Of course, I've done all the flashing and tweaking, but it's still not satisfying me. Although the Blackstone Android development seems very promising to me, I also have my doubts about a 'final' build in the future.
The real problem I have is slow texting, Opera opening slow and I am just dealing with an in-responsive system.
The HTC Touch HD is obviously a very slow phone, having tried different ROMs (Topix, Energy, Miri, Dutty and some more), both Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5. I fell in love for the agenda of 6.5 (the Sense edition, I have no clue if it's implanted in WM), so I don't want to ever go back to 6.1. Though, I realize that, if I want a faster phone, I should probably go back and downgrade my phone. What I am looking for is a ROM which satisfy me with speed and agility (no restarts all the time, because memory is slipping), and can provide me my valuable agenda in a pleasant way.
I would like if some of you could give me some valuable advise. Because I'm about to throw my phone in the trashcan.
Before you are confronting me with some of the greatest ROMs; I'm not 'really' in love with Sense UI, and if turning it off and using the standard WM 6.5 menu, speeds up my phone, I will do it. But is the build-in agenda satisfying enough for my needs?
In the far future I probably will buy an iPhone 3GS (4G?), just for the fact that is a phone which doens't crash and goes slow all the time. I will be throwing a little tweaker inside of me away, sadly.
Regards,
Aram (the Netherlands)
Currently using: Miri WM 6.5 | 18.0 WWE with Manila version 2.5.19222911.0 and Radio version 1.17.25.09 (should I update this?). Using an Exchange-server for my e-mail and agenda (Google Mail)!
Did you try searchig for a Calendar-Agenda Application to install before Upgrading or downgrading your phone's core software? Custom Rom don't bring anything new that Blackstone could do already as it came out of the box, imho. Then again other people do like to customize it a lot. if you do want to bin your phone, send it my way, I'll give it a home.
What I really liked about the WM6.5 roms was and still is the fact that in a single click I can look up my appointments and notes.
You are quite right about the 'why would you flash'-thing. Sometimes I've the feeling that I really downgraded my phone, instead of giving it the boost I intended to.
Again this is an opinionated query which is frowned upon in XDA as people will have different views on which is best creating endless long threads with no real result. For these reasons I am closng this thread

Clean, bloat-free, WM6.5 ROM?

So this is my first post, and I'm not sure how "okay" it is to ask these questions here, but I figured it'd be fine since I didn't read anything in the rules that said otherwise.
Basically I came from a Blackjack2 running WinMo 6.1, and I loved the how fast and fluid it is. While I love the Rhodium's interface, it is at most times bulky and hard to navigate/unresponsive/slow.
I'm looking for a SIMPLE WinMo 6.5 ROM that has a nice home screen where I can see time, weather, missed calls, and calendar events, but I don't need the "taskbar" down south, I think it's called Sense (or TouchFlo3D?). I find that most of HTC's "overlays" for the WinMo 6.5 apps are slow and bulky. I can barely text using their texting app.
Is there any ROM out there like this? I looked through the first 5-6 pages and found nothing like what I'm mentioning.
I tried the Energy UltraLite but it seems like I have..nothing with this rom? I can't even figure out how to get into my phone to dial numbers.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm still getting acquainted with this phone and the details of how WinMo and custom ROMs work

That Energy rom is meant more for people that just want to load Android on top of WinMo. Try the ROM in my sig if you're willing to try Sense again. It's very responsive. The same chef, b16b, has a ROM with Titanium only and is reportedly working on a 'clean' ROM as well.
the rom development forum is for topics concerning development of roms only, not questions concerning which one is best or the way you like them. there are several "titanium" or chome roms here in the forum that dont have manila, you should try some im sure you will find one you like thread closed.

[Q] Few basic questions please! For X1

I love this forum it has been helpful. But I am still new at a lot of this.
I have installed a few ROM'S on my X1. I have the Energy reference ROM right now, trying to keep the weight down on it.
I have searched a lot and haven’t found any definitive answers for the following questions.
I would like to have a Rom that is based on the Touch Pro 2. My wife has a TP2 that was bought unlocked unbranded. It is still running a stock ROM. I know its WM 6.5 but not sure about the sense version it has. I believe it’s an older version. On the People tab it is more like a flip picture for the contacts. And also the music and mail tabs.
Is there a list or reference chart that gives details on version numbers? And how to tell what version a stock ROM is?
Thank you.
I think the build number i.e. 29001 is build number of Windows Mobile that's not the WM Version. so 29001 is newer than 28000 but both of them is WM6.5.5. There's a connection between that number (so proper range is showing the version of WM) i.e. 25xxx-29xxx is WM6.5.5 or 21xxx-23xxx is WM6.5.1, but I'm not a devs so I don't know much about it exactly. If you want to flash from one chef (person/people who make ROM i.e. 826x ROM by Willyung, Russell Eclair ROM buy Russell Eclair), just choose the higher one because it means that the WM is also upgraded and updated to the max power and functionality.
Stock ROM is an original ROM from manufacture- Sony Ericsson. While Custom ROM isn't officially coming out from SE but it is cooked (made) by some kind and genius person/s.
Stock ROM is used in case you want to restore your phone to an original condition for proper purpose i.e. claiming for warranty.
Hope this is helpful...
Thank you for the info.
I think what I am after is a basic 6.5 ROM that matches the TP2 pretty close. Minus all the extra stuff that drags it down.
I like the way the sense feels better than the newer updated ones. Might be bugs but that is ok.
I don’t use the phone to any great usage, just basic calls, very very few text and GPS.
This is the info off the TP2 maybe someone might be able to know what’s what off it.
1.87.421.0 (67729) wwe ROM
10.01.09 date
4.49.25.17 radio
61.44tc.25.32u protocall version
Thank you
