Looking to build my own Rom. All input and help is WELCOME. - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi everyone, I am looking to build my own Rom. I have a CID unlocked G3 and am going to build a Rom with a few extras that aren't normally included in a Rom like Threaded SMS and what not.
I am going to build an extended Rom and include IPL/SPL also so the Rom will be for CID unlocked G3 devices only.
I also have the IPL/SPL, Extended Roms, And Splash Screens from the T-Mobile Official Rom and also The Cingular Official Rom so I may release a G4 version should the Rom make it that far in development.
There will also be a Generic version that is not loaded with an IPL/SPL so it will be safe for CID unlocked G3 and G4 devices should I get that far.
Please everyone all OEM packages are welcome to post here and all help is welcome. I am VERY new at building Roms but would like to learn so I can be more helpful to the community and I am starting by building my own Rom.
I would like to note that I am looking for the OEM package for WM6 Threaded SMS and instructions on how to install it. I am perfectly aware that for legal reasons it cannot be posted here so I am providing my E-Mail address here:
[email protected]
Also, where in the SYS or OEM folder is the welcomehead96.jpg file located? I just went through every file dumped from my device and it is not there. Thanks.
Thanks in advance, Dan.

Which is the latest, greatest ROM???

Hi guys,
Been a while since I've been on here and it would seem there has been a whole load of ROM updates since I last updated my Vario.
It was originally a UK T-Mobile ROM, I CID unlocked and SIM unlocked it and updated to the latest I-Mate ROM.
Had a look in the FTP site and theres a whole selection of ROMs to choose from!
Just wondered if some kind soul could advise which is the best ROM to update to?
According to my phone, I currently have:
ROM version 2.16.9.1 WWE
ROM date : 2/6/06
Radio version : 02.07.10
Protocol version : 413.1.03
ExtROM version : 2.16.9.101
Its an I-Mate ROM currently, but I don't care which ROM I put on it, as long as its the latest stable version available.
Also, is there a 'clean' version of the latest ROM? ie no crap in the extended ROM.
Do I understand correctly that as I updated the ROM from an old AKU1 ROM, the CID unlock will still be in place or do I need to do the unlock trick again by following the post regarding unlocking AKU2 ROMs?
Cheers,
Steve.
No replies??
I know it sounds a newby question, but I have read and digested a lot of the info on this site and thanks to all you guys I upgraded my ROM form the standard UK T-Mobile image to the latest I-Mate image. But this was a while ago and it would seem things have moved on and I was just after a gentle prod in the right direction.
From what I've read, it would seem Molski's image is the fastest and most stable out there at the moment. Also i now know I have a G3 phone as the IPL/SPL is 2.16.
I'm still not sure what will happen when I try to flash a new ROM. I know i SIM and CID unlocked the phone for the first ROM update, but will that CID and SIM unlock still be in place to allow the upgrade to Molskis ROM image. I would rather not have a brick, if I can help it.
Also, does anyone have an opinion on Molski's latest ROM vs I-Mates 2.16?? Is it any quicker or am I upgrading for no benefit?
If no-one replies then I will carry on reading and searching for answers to my questions and I thank you all for doing what you do on here and hopefully there will be a thread somewhere that will help me out. If I do get an answer then I thank you for helping a not-so-new newbie down the road to Wizard nirvana.
Cheers all,
Steve.
Hi mate, sorry cant answer your question,
I have a locked Tmobile MDA Vario with the latest tmobile firmware.
How do I unlock it?
and what is the best firmware to use?
I have used the search on here, but dont understand the firmware codes etc and dont want to risk flashing a wrong update.
thanks
To unlock the latest phones, from what I have read on here you need to use the latest Lockiwiz program, downgrade the ROM to a custom ROM, then CID and SIM unlock the phone, then you can upgrade to the ROM of your choice.
As for the best ROM out there, thats exactly what I'm trying to find out!!!!
ok I downloaded Lockiwiz 0.3a and it didn't give me the unlock code.
I wonder if this is because I have installed the latest tmobile firware.
anyway, it will have to stay locked for now. thanks for your help, sorry I cant help you.
for sim unlock download awizard or lokiwiz extract enablerapi.cab and copy it to your device.
then run it on the device and run lokiwiz or awizard on your pc.
worked for me
there is no need to downgrade your rom unless you have a particular situation and you just want tot do that.
anyway to upgrade your roms with cid locked phones read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47848
cheers
wo hoooo!
that did it, thanks, unlocked!! yippee
Well thanks to everyone for all their kind words and help..........
Anyway, I have upgraded my ROM to Molski's 2.26 and it is fantastic. The phone is so quick, and I haven't even overclocked it yet! Very impressive.
So a big shout out to Molski for cooking this ROM, and long may he continue making stable, fast, easy ROM executables.
And also a big shout out to everyone on here. I know I made a sarcastic comment at the beginning but I still managed to search and find everything I needed to know, it just took many, many hours of rooting through to find the answers to my questions. But without all you guys the answers wouldn't have been there anyway.
It has also propelled me into making a noobies guide to this sort of stuff, so keep your eyes open for that, all you guys that keep asking about the latest ROM and how to upgrade.
Thanks again and i will be asking some more questions soon, matbe just to see if I get any sort of reaction at all!!!
Take care peeps,
Steve.

wizard 3.2 rom testers needed

i have created a 3.2 rom for the wizard and i need more testers in order to continue the developlent.the rom is stable.
it has some favorites freeware apps integrated a much much more.
also it has netcf plus java etc etc....all working.
if you are up to it please email-me.
i prefer that you have a good knowlege of the wizard and how it works.

i am down to test. what rom did you get the os.nb file from? do you have any idea on how to extract os.nb from the new i-mate jasjar rom?
I am also cool with being a tester. I have used the Wizard since it came out and have tried 15-20 different ROMS. Work for Cingular as well. Let me know.
hi
i can test your rom
my email: [email protected]
or icq 176739383
Faria,
Is this Rom based on the same source as the other AKU3.2 Roms?
Or id this Rom maybe based on a (beta/test) release from an official source?
Can you tell me (pm me?) some details of this Rom?
Regards,
Molski
whats cookin'
we need a rom cooked from a different rom like beta14 or the new i-mate rom.
I am a junior member but my office works with HTC and I have been using it for a while. Let me know

u cannot use beta 14 for wizard it is specific to the universal.
just put a copy on ftp, you are not liable for brickin and if i was worried about having a brick then i would not be willing to test.
extract os.nb
if you could extract the os.nb from the nk.nkf then it might work but like all 3.2 roms for wizard they are based on other roms like 2.26.
when will your rom be available?

AKU3.2 ROM for G3 Devices - Clean

Managed to create a "clean" Wizard ROM for my G3 device, nothing fancy, just a few adjustments and enhancements.
The description is as follows:
1. Operating System: 5.1.195 (Build 15605.3.2.0)
- Based on the AKU3.2 ROM I downloaded from ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/AKU3.2/AKU3.2-1.0RC1.rar - THis is not the ROM I created, it is the core OS I used for my ROM.
2. Radio: 2.47.11
- Based on the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281141&highlight=Wizard+Radio+2.47 (Thanks to CIDRIVER for posting it)
3. Extended ROM: 2.26.10.105 Customized with the following contents:
- AutoRun.exe - Program to auto-install Extended ROM contents upon hard reset
- Config.txt - Configuration file which tells AutoRun.exe what to install
- Cert_Disable.cab - Disables certification checking - No longer required according to MOLSKI
- UXC_WWE_20051020.cab - From T-Mobile ROM v2.26 which installs additional T-Mobile Sounds and ring-tones
- MP-Shorcut-MMS1-Voice-CV-TMUS-060404.CAB - From T-Mobile ROM v2.26 installs MMS folder In "Inbox" under Messaging
- PP_ExtVersion.CAB - Configures the Extended ROM version
- HTC_Customizatios.cab - Hybrid customizations Based on MOLSKI's "Performance Registry Tweaks" and "Customizations Tweeks" that can be found at MOLSKI's site http://www.molski.biz
- Intent_MIDlet_Manager.cab - Installs the Java Midlet application
- MagicButton_2.0.cab - Installs the Magic Button application
- OMAPClock.cab - Custom OMAP Clock installer I created which installs OMAPClock, creates an Icon under "Programs" and installs an auto-launch shortcut in startup that sets the clock speed to 240Mhz
The ROM is made with the O2 Splash screen (more of a personal preference), and seems to be running pretty well, and faster in fact.
My thanks to MOLSKI, FARIA and the other gurus (I apologize if I did not mention everyone who had a hand in providing the resources I used) on the forum for posting instructions, files, and other resources, with which I was able to create the ROM.
Because of numerous requests, I have uploaded it to the xda-developers ftp site, for those who are interested in trying the ROM you can download it from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Wizard/Roms/AKU3.2_Clean_ZeroXtreme.zip
For a brief description of my device that it was applied to, it is an I-Mate K-JAM (WIZA200) G3 device that was CID unlocked, and had the stock T-Mobile 2.26 (IPL/SPL 2.26) ROM installed before flashing to this ROM. The flashing process pauses for a couple of minutes at some points but finishes to completion without any errors, so please be patient.
NOTE: The battery drains fast with this ROM (observation during actual usage)
Standard disclaimer applies, I am not responsible for anything that should happen to the devices of people who try out the ROM, use it at your own risk.
Are you sure you included the correct nk.nbf?
I installed it (from Molski 2.3-30mb) and it put in the old cingular rom (/w empty extrom, old cingular splash screen, and NOT AKU3.2).

I dont get the question, what do you mean by the correct nk.nbf?
Well basically, I tried ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/AKU3.2/AKU3.2-1.0RC1.rar but when i go to About it says, OS 5.1.70 (Build 14410.1.1.3)...which isn't making much sense considering I flashed the rom from a higher os version.
I guess what I'm asking is, are you sure that file contains the correct os?
Thanks so much
Oh, thanks for clarifying, and the answer is yes, it is AKU3.2. The version number I put down in the first post was actually read from the device itself.

Well.... being as that you're downloading a file dated 9-16-2006 I wouldn't expect to see anything new ...
All new files go to the UPLOADS directory on the ftp and then the mod's move them to their final resting place.
Doesn't look like ZeroXtreme has posted the ROM but is relaying what's in it.
(unless I'm missing something.....)
Dr Puttingham: Yeah, thats exactly the case.
ZeroXtreme: Excellent compilation. Thanks a lot

There is no new ROM posted as I mentioned right above this...
That link IS good, it just doesn't have the username and password ...
(read the Wiki...)
Now ... if you REALLY want to download a ROM dated 9-12-2006 then this is the full URL with the username and password... Why, I dunno....
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/AKU3.2/AKU3.2-1.0RC1.rar
I would just like to clarify further, the link posted above in the first post is not the ROM I made, it is partially based on that ROM, I was just referencing it.

perhaps you should edit your original post and put the link to your ROM as the ftp site can be confusing to many

Good to hear you've been successful, ZeroXtreme - not an easy task (at least for most). How has the stability been for you? Have you noticed any of the issues that some have mentioned with Faria's 3.2 ROM? If it is stable, hopefully you'll release this ROM to the rest of us - that is, if Molski and Faria have no problem with it, of course, since you're using some of their handywork. Good to see other chef's in the kitchen (sorry if I haven't seen your work before).

Thanks for the support, with regards to the stability, it seems to be working faster the the AKU2 ROMs, however I am still in the process of determining the kinks in it. There are however incompatibilities I have already noticed, like SPB PcketPlus will not even install, and the custom vCard plugin I use to send and receive vCards via SMS instead of MMS conflicts with the SMS engine in the AKU3.2 ROM.
Sorry, stopped cooking ROMs for the longest time, last time I made ROMs was for the Himalaya.

G4 Tmobile USA,which OEM rom to flash?

I flashed my wizard with faria rom but I want the original from tmobile back, how I know if the rom is for G3 or G4 device? Any can point me which one.
Thanks.
tmo's rom
If you are a t-mobile customer then you can log into you myT-mobile account and in the top right-hand corner of the screen it should have a picture of your device. If you click on this it should take you to a page that has support for your device. this page should have their 2.26 rom on it. just download and install.

Is your G4 device cid unlocked or not? If not there is a thread on the G4 forum that should direct you to roms that are ok with your device. Unfortunately thats about as far as my advice on a G4 can go but I will continue searching for an answer. Let me know if you find one first.

LOL...
a: I was wondering to sell the phone, is brand new but get a little disappointed because is G4 and in the past I sold my G3. I sold the G3 and purchased a xv6700, my wife has a imate jam and was in LOVE with the G3( Qtek 9100), then I sold xv6700 and purchased a hermes cigular 8525(my main phone) and my wife still with the jam, now purchased the G4 t-mo usa mda for valentine's gift and want to customize it.(hope my wife doesn't read this forum)
b: The first T-mobile OEM worked, faria's v2 too, but the last from Cingular did not, it stopped at 95% and told me that was a wrong device, I tried twice to flash it. reflashed faria's. Did not tested t-mo custom. I want cingular extended rom but I flash it with faria's or t-mo roms and doesn't work, flased a custom extended rom and nothing, I want a cingular oem rom and then reflash faria's or wm6 rom, many useful cabs for the cingular network in the extended rom.
c: I use Cute ftp to access the xda ftp, I can see all the crap there... lol. But is there!
d: Sorry in my english, I speak spanish
You say you're G4 is CID-unlocked. You can flash every rom from aku2 and above on it now that doesn't contain IPL/SPL. Never flash a rom that contains IPL/SPL. So, if you want to flash the "original" rom back you'll have to remove the IPL/SPL part manual.
There's a great thread from Risidoro that explains how to do this:
