I called cingular tonight because i have been trying to get my 750 paired with my tom tom one 3rd edition for use of the weather updates and cameras and such. Through conversation with a support representative, and trying to troubleshoot why it couldn't use the wireless connection of the phone, the representative asked me to check a few things on my phone. While answering some questions, one of which was about device software and such and i told him i had windows mobile 6 installed.
From this point on he led into reasons why i should be using it with out it being released and such which is to be expected. He also stated that doing to much to the phone can possibly make the phone upgradable when the real WM6 update is released. This he mentioned were changing the boot loader, IPL and SPL software in the phone, that and using bogus releases of software. The reason being he said was that the soon to be released update probes the phone deeply because everything has been updated including the boot loader stuff.
Now i cant confirm or deny any truth to these statements but the only thing i had done with mine was a try a few new firmwares but after my conversation with them i quickly reverted back to WM5.
here is a link to get it if anyone is interested in doing the same. Download either or, they are the same. included is the cheeimg.nbh and the cheediag.nbh. the cheediag.nbh wont complete is you have othere that cingular WM5 on ur cingular treo 750.

I think Olipro's response covers the reality of this mighty fine. There's really only one scenario where you could do something and not be able to change or revert, and that has to do with the radio.
If you put a Hermes radio on the Treo, you won't be able to change it ever again until a hack is worked up. The Hermes radio does a bit of authentication with the SPL using a function that is the Hermes SPLs, but not in the Cheetah SPL.
I'm currently stuck in this situation unfortunately..

this is why i am not doing the Hard SPL unlock bit. I mean it is great that someone has the smarts to make this work but honestly it took thousands of man hours and engineers to make these phones and the software in them. I believe honestly software has gotten like the pharmacutical industry, so many side affects and there is know way the one person who wrote this can adaquately predict what will happen on every phone. SOmetimes it is better to just leave alone.
oh and think you guys should post what side affects you know of in regards to using the HARD-SPL. I think a lot of people are gonna be pissed if they used that and cannot get the AT&T update to install on thier phones when it comes out.. I smell some future legal problems here.
Ok I'm feeling a bit dense today, are you saying if I have the leaked AT&T WM 6 rom installed on my Treo it won't be able to update to the official release?
Naw, no one is saying that. You can install whatever updates you want, including future updates. Don't pay attention to folks who haven't been 'round here long or the misguided/misinformed ramblings of a Cingular tech support cubicle jockey.

I suggest you read up on the world of HTC devices (the Treo is made by HTC) to get some helpful insight into bootloaders, radios, OS ROMs, etc. The Hermes upgrading forum would be a good place to start - the Hermes is very similar to the Treo.
The only "side effects" are this:
-the patched bootloader will not allow itself to be overwritten by a carrier ROM update. The patched bootloader is what allows a cooked (unsigned) ROM to be flashed.
-the patched bootloader will let you flash a Hermes radio to the device if you are so inclined. Right now this is a bad move since the Hermes radios have a radio bootloader which requires authentication from the main bootloader (SPL), and this isn't supported by the main bootloader. End result - if you flash a Hermes radio, you'll be stuck with it, perhaps forever.
Palm, HTC, and carriers will always give you a scripted response when it comes to running modified code on your device. Their responses are designed to discourage folks from bricking or otherwise fouling up their device and then running to Palm or the carriers for help. You'll get a clear picture of the risks and realities here on these forums.

yeah i've known for a long time that HTC has made the treo 750 and many others. I'm just not that much into my phone that i wanna know how this affects this and make it do this neat thing.. i just want it to work.
Talk about contradictory...you're mighty confusing my friend.
Anyway, you've happened upon a site dedicated to modifying devices via cooked OS's and patched device code so they can "do neat things". Perhaps you'd find the various Treo user sites closer to your needs...Treocentral is a good one.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I created a ROM using a bare T-Mobile 2.26 with the complete Extended ROM from the Cingular 2.25. This is for unlocked G3 type phones ONLY as it has the 2.26 IPL/SPL embedded.
This was my very first attempt at cooking a ROM and it didn't turn out bad if you need a truely Cingular looking phone. Actually I can't tell the difference except it's much faster than the stock 2.25.
This has no customizations included and was for fun only. I've been running it today with no problems. Being as that I don't need GoodLink email or other such Cingular stuff I'll be flashing tomorrow to something different. (but that's me ...)
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Other_Unknown/Cingular_RUU_Wizard_2.26
I forgot to include the .rar extension when I UL'ed to the FTP, sorry! ( DUH! )
thank you. I've been using the 2,265 for some time now. it looks like these newer roms seem to be faster and better performance wise.
so this is a basic rom with cingular customizations? I'm deciding on either trying this out,the aku 2.3 beta by shogun or waiting for the next aku 3.2 release.
just wondering. will we see any official cingular/htc releases or have they abandoned the wizard?
If on a Cingular network I'm kinda partial to the shogunmark ROM. For a beta it's worked out pretty well and I'm going back to it today probably.
The 3.2 is a work in progress, not ready for primetime IMO.
This ROM I threw together is for those that need all the Cingular stuff that come on the stock phone. It's got the Cingular Splash Screen, complete Cingular Extended ROM and that's it. It's near impossible to tell that it's not the stock ROM unless you purposely look at the device info. I was simply addressing an extremely small (if existent at all) need for such a critter and to have a little fun.
Thanks, this is what I was looking for. I am going to load this today.
Keep up the good work.
bout time you put that out..
Wow! If only one person benefits from this ROM I'm tickled!
Good luck!

All those union breaks I guess! And it actually turned out nice, quite quick in stock mode without molski's speed and performance tweaks... actually never got around to installing any reg hacks as I was happy with it the way it performed. Back to your ROM now though as I don't need all that Cingular stuff ... with my enhancements added in of course !
Will this rom work on the qtek 1010?
I wouldn't thinks so, being that that you're referring to a Wallaby I believe.
Sorry!
Would you happen to know how to get cingular to work on my Wallaby?

Sounds like you might need to unlock it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=1190&highlight=unlock
I believe that you need to change over to the Wallaby upgrading etc. instead of looking in this Forum. From a 5 minute search there it would appear that the Wallaby working on the Cingular network would require you having 1900 MHZ coverage rather than the typical 850 MHZ which I don't believe that the Wallaby supports. I'm not a Wallaby owner however and claim no knowledge of the device nor do I really care to learn.
The subject I posted here was Cingular 2.26 ROM. It is for Wizards only. If you happened to be able to flash it to your device I'm sure it would cease to exist as a usable device. If your question is regarding the Wallaby operating on the Cingular network you're in the wrong place.
Sorry and good luck!
Thank you for the info, but I decided to sell it to someone in Europe. But thaks for the help
What is in ext rom? I dunno cingular rom...
If you dunno you dunneed!
(Trust me !)
in the beta versionn, the voice dial button locked the phone. in this one does the voice dial button really do voice dial???
This is the standard Cingular Extended ROM - no more and no less
going 2.26.. can't go back?
i'm trying to figure out if I have gone to 2.26, if I can go back?

Back to what? My psychic advisor is on vacation...
Actually if you CID unlocked you can install whatever ROM you want. Typically you have to downgrade to the 1.05 ROM to the downgrade to another ROM lower than the 2.226, say the 2.24.
But you really should get into the habit of including all information about your ROM when you ask questions here.
Can someone please consolidate a post together for us of the method(s) of going from WM5(AT&T) to WM6(latest Voda Rom) + AT&T enhancements. All steps and or things we need to do. Since it seems that AT&T is never going to actually release a ROM and this will most likely be the only way any of us ever get it , it would be good to have a consolidated path so that more people will be able to understand and upgrade in a more consistent way. This way with all the steps in one place its more likely less people will brick their phones.
Thanks to the community for all that you have discovered thus far.

In all honestly, the leaked ATT ROM is more than likely going to the the official ROM. As someone who's tried both, I really don't see any difference, even with the ATT software installed on the vodafone rom. The speed people keep claiming seems to be more of a side effect of the hard reset required with flashing the ROM.

Possibly, however my money would be on the fact that this problem is actually fixed in the WM6 ATT rom, but without one of the Palm engineers actually telling us what's different between the leaked WM6 roms and the old ROM there's no good way to be sure.
I nearly bought this phone tonight before T-Mobile decided to charge me full price. I decided ebay might be a better place to buy one instead of paying 500 dollars for an iphone wannabe. It looks like a nice phone. I really like the wifi feature. I intend to use the wifi in my home as I already have wifi though out the house in use with my wifes computer and my PS3. It seemed like it would fit nice. I want to be able to surf the internet and maybe use google maps and google talk via the phone and wifi. I assume that can be done. After reading a few reviews though I put a screeching halt on my ebay bids. The phone seems to suffer from serious memory issues. Every negative review dealt with the memory or lock ups which I assume were also memory related. It appears the phone ships with a slow processor and not enough memory. I have no problems with buys a microSD card in the 2 to 4 gig range if that will solve the memory issues. I intended on buying one anyway for the application storage. Will the additional memory solve the issues with the phone? Are there updates to the phone that will correct these issues possible since many of the reviews were written? Are there currently SAFE work arounds that would correct the memory issues? I am no stranger to fooling around with this type of thing but at 300 dollars and considering that I am buying on ebay, I'm affraid i wont be in a position to gamble with the phone. If made the purchase through T-mobile I could possibly return the phone but ebay is another matter. Many of the sales are final. I dont want this phone if it requires flashing Rom's or extensive worj arounds to get the phone working.
So I will rely on your opinions on whether or not to make this purchase. If not this phone..what phone? I use t-mobile and dont want an unlocked phone so it would need to be one of their available products. I hear the MDA isnt bad. I really like the idea of a windows mobile OS as it would allow me to put darn near any app on the phone I want to. I want WIFI. I want to be able to use google talk and google maps on the phone and I really like the idea of surfing the web for free on my couch useing full functioning browsers not those mobile editions. Any recomendations if not the Hearld/Wing? Can I get the Wing to work properly and not freeze, hang up, lock up, or require constant reboots?
Point Blank you will have to change the rom on the wing in order to get some performance out of it, I switched from the MDA and the first day I got the wing I wanted my MDA back, but after changing the rom I forgot all about my big fat MDA even though The MDA has a 1250mAh battery and the wing just has a 1130mAh Batt.
If you do not want to do a rom upgraded you can take a shot at the Shadow, which has twice has much built in Memory and Storage, but its just a smartphone not a full PPC ................
also the MDA has been Dis-continued so if you buy one it will be a re-furb.
on second thought, You might just have to change the paging pool size and that should free up some Memory. and its too easy to do, and you can also delete and uninstall some files and programs you have no need for
I saw a few articles about both the rom and the page file. In your opinion, is changing the rom a wise thing to do with little to no support? I know that rom updates are risky, but on computers for example, its such a slick and easy process that there is little to no risk. Would a rom update on the wing be a wise thing to do? Is the available rom from a reputable sourse or is this something "Cody the 12 year old" made? I really want to make this wing my next phone but I dont want a 400 dollar PDA/cell phone that does neither correctly.

Hi,
I have not created my own rom, but have recooked a few version of the Touch-IT v2.3 wing by itje. Recooking a rom is a long process, creating a rom would take even longer.
I've flashed my wing over 80 times now during testing new roms and recooking.
I've bricked the phone a lot of times in the process but with the orignal ruu, its no big deal.
I'm pretty sure itje and other fine rom cookers in this forum are not 12 year olds.
If you want to buy the wing then buy it and tjem read the forum and learn how to flash new roms and change page pool size.
If you want a faster and more powerful phone then buy the Kaiser.
Thanks for reading.
funny you should mention the Kaiser. I just finished reading up on that one. Thats a serious phone. It's way more phone and money then I am prepared to pony up. Is this the next best option for me?
I didnt mean any offense on the 12 year old statement. I certainly wasnt refering to anyone in particular or members of this board. I was mearly trying to imply unproven rom techniques. It sounds like there is well tested processess probably on this board for flashing the rom. It will likely be a safe process for me.
Would there be another recomendation for T-mobile if not the Kaiser or the Wing?
T-mo currently has 3 windows based devices listed which are the Wing, The Dash and The shadow, both the Dash and the shadow are smartphones and not PPC .................. since you dont want to have to unlock another device to be able to use it, I would recomend that you get the wing and while its being shipped to you read this thread about changing the Paging Pool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324955
When you get the phone try give the 4mb Paging pool a test (thats what I use)
and if you still do not like it or just want to see how much better it is try a Rom upgraded I recomend Touch-IT wing 2.3 cooked by itje and he is not the 12 yr old that beat you in online gaming ................ you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340403
The installation is VERY VERY easy, but make sure to read the instruction in the folder and if you skip a line you will brick your phone ......................... but if you do brick your phone its pretty simple to unbrick, just re-flash the official rom .................... I can't seem to find that link (or too tired to look) but if someone can post it please do, If i come home tomorrow and no one has posted a link I will upload it for you
great info. phone purchased and ill be sure to give those tips a go. thanks

Just a note. Make sure you read and then RE-READ the instructions provided with every rom. And its also a good thing to get the T-Mobile official RUU as once the phone is bricked, this is the only rom that will unbrick it. I don't want to scare you because it's actually a very easy process. I have flashed itje's rom to several of my co-workers (were all T-Mobile employees) with no unrecoverable issues.

Yeah, just hang in there. Duno why it's taking so long to get the unlock, but whatever........ It'll be soon and then it's bye-bye Verizon!!
I am definitely interested in this, but I also feel that the resistive touch screen will limit the touch functionality,
while its resistive touch, its extremely responsive. its very intuitive, it reacts when you want it to and never reacts to an accidental touch. i wouldnt let that hinder you.
i know they got android running on the omnia so i see no reason why it wont be running on the imagio. i started a thread here to try to collect some spl unlock information for newbies like myself, maybe we can figure it out sooner rather than later.
I would love this. I had one for my tytnII on AT&T. It would be even better now especially if we could get 2.1 running.
someone should cruz over to the blackstone forum and try the android build. It isnt a flash, you boot it from within windows. The imagio and the blackstone are virtually the same device.

Actually you guys should Try the Topaz build. The Imagio is a different looking Touch Diamond2/ AT&T Pure. I doubt it will since you guys have a different size screen and mebe other Hardware changes because it's CDMA but you could try.
The Topaz Android does work on the Touch Pro 2. The Imagio could be considered the bastard child of the Diamond2 and Pro2.
nobody listen to this bs. only flash your phone with imagio roms. if you are going to run an enviroment, make sure it is for the imagio. the imagio might kinda look like this phone and act like that phone, but its not this or that phone. dont screw your device up. just hang in there.
You are a complete retard. Don't post before you research. Android on a Windows Mobile device does not require a flash. It is an image that boots up inside of WM and "kills" WM and boots Android. It causes absolutely no harm to your phone.
RESEARCH before you post your dumb idiotic ideas that have absolutely no base.
listen dumbass,
i told them not to use roms and various other crap made for other phones, because and i know this may come to a shock to someone who is an expert like you, but..............phones vary. why dont you do some research. start by googling "whats a phone" and then go on to searching "why am i such a dumbass"
yet again IMAGE not a ROM. If you start the IMAGE in windows mobile it will boot android. If you RESET the phone its windows mobile again..... No harm, no damage......

"Installing Android
Currently, Android is booted from within Windows Mobile. It does not run INSIDE Windows Mobile nor is it emulated! An application named HaRET is used as a bootloader to REBOOT the device into Android."
Now I am sorry if I offended you and I agree people should not just go and put and ROM on your phone...
I am also not responsible if someone does mess up there stuff, precautions should be taken.
I understand how the whole android ordeal works, i was voicing concern over the fact that it says Kaiser. It doesent say WinMo, it specifically says Kaiser. I can only assume this is because it has not been tested for full functionality on other devices. While yes, I see no real reason why this shouldnt work, it truthfully may not. You and me both have been there man, you put something on your phone, it should work, it works, then suddenly your hard resetting. I simply dont want any newbies to start throwing stuff for different model phones on their device thinking its going to be fine. I was simply saying if it isnt designed for your model phone specifically, do some research, ask around see if someone has it working on their device.
Kaiser = HTC Kaiser which is a Windows Mobile phone.
*sigh* honestly, just forget it.

Just because it is a Windows Mobile phone doesn't mean it will work...
HTC Kaiser DOES NOT equal HTC Imagio.
The entire basis of why we are still waiting for ROMs on the Imagio is because it is a DIFFERENT phone model..obviously just because there is an Android build able to run on Windows Mobile doesn't mean we can just use it right off the bat.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=104666
case in point. this guy had to tweak it heavily and it still doesent work right.
why?
because its not a direct line. yes, kaiser= htc kaiser blah blah blah
but phone models are DIFFERENT.
whether its a rom, or a .cab, or ANYTHING if it isnt made for your phone, theres a good chance it WONT work. theres your proof. if this build worked on ALL windows mobile phones, various builds dedicated to specific models would not be around folks. thank you.
First of all Hello everyone, I'm Luke and I'm pretty new to the windows mobile scene.
I've wanted a windows mobile phone for a few years now however price tags were not so appealing to me, but now I've purchased my first windows phone and it should be arriving tomorrow or within the next few days. It also seems that I've bought one at a good time as I'm happy to see a lot of development going on for 6.1/6.5 which is awesome - I like playing around with gadgets more than actually using them.
But here is the catch, whilst I've posted this in the HTC TD2 section here, the phone I've bought isn't actually a TD2. At least not an official one. It's one of the Chinese models found on eBay. I don't want a moral debate going on here - it was a bargain and it's my first step into using a Windows phone which I'm looking forward to for a decent price. It looks like a TD2 and the seller has claimed it is 'OEM Produce' however I don't believe him really.
What I wanted to ask was how will I go about flashing, updating, installing ROM's and the such on this phone? Will it be more than enough to follow instructions for a standard TD2? I hope someone here who understands hardware device and such will be able to clear that up for me.
The phone is using the same processor as the original TD2, and has the same resolution etc. Not sure if it has the same amount of ROM/RAM however it's being shipped with WM 6.1 so it has enough I presume. Are there any other hardware differences that will effect the ROM's I can use? Can I even use the same ROM's you guys are using? I don't care about the lower quality camera and less important things like that.
Thanks for any advice (sorry it was a bit long winded)
Please scroll down to see my most recent post! Thanks!
Thats is a very tricky question you are asking here.
First of all, nothing is certain or guaranteed of what you might receive there. After all, the product you receive will be a counterfeit phone, a fake trying to mock a real TD2. And as with any fake products you get the same quality issues. How do you know for sure that it has the same processor?? Just because they write it there? The same can apply to the RAM, ROM, Display etc.! It is in my opinion HIGHLY unlikely that the phone you will receive, will have anything in common (technology-wise) with the real TD2. The TD2 combines a lot of recent technology like that hd screen, cam and ram. What you will find underneath of yours might be a mash-up of older HTC phones like the Diamond or even older..who knows!? You can continue this uncertainty with the Windows that phone is running...it will be some homecooked release that is made to work with the components the phone features. As they will be different to TD2 as we have clarified earlier, the ROMs available here will most certainly not work ideally with yours....and i would be highly surprised to see a forum that will be dedicated to a fake TD2 lolz. Anyways, I think you get my point...I dont really see why you would ship yourself a chinese mock-up to start with a Windows Mobile phone...I dont, really. There are so many nice cheap hq HTC phones out there that still support 6.5 to-date. I have been using a HTC Excalibur (S620/621/Dash) for like 4 years and kept buying the same phone since then because i LOVE it. The quality is superb and it runs Windows Mobile 6.5 like a charm. You can pickup a brandnew unlocked one for $100 at the bay. Just a week ago i decided to upgrade and bought a new TD2...not here yet but same as you i am very excited Im sorry that i drifted off into a moral debate by the way
If you really want to embark on trying to update your phone you will have to analyze the rom closely to see what phone's ROM it is actually running. This will help you to find the according forum in here.
Good luck
I concur with vivid22, The internals of your phone will certainly be different to those of the original HTC build and as such you may have many unforseen troubles if you do flash the rom.
But if you decide to proceed with a rom flash i would be very interested to hear of your results.
You may also be interested in using some benchmark software and comparing how your phone performs compared to ours, maybe you can discover if the CPU is indeed the correct performance. Its all quite interesting.
Oh and welcome to the forums
Thanks for your responses guys! Very informative.
While I'm not going to respond to the most obvious statements like it being a counterfeit and it sucking etc in much detail because of course you are right! but I knew this when I bought it. The price is the real difference here and I don't mind if I can't flash it but I too am interested if it will actually work .
I'm still waiting for the phone to arrive and yes you both are right it has a very high chance that it is using different internals and I expect this, however the seller seems to state its using very similar hardware.
I will be more than happy to mess around with it, I guess I will dump the ROM first if I can then try installing some 6.5 etc - no problem trying I guess. I must say I've seen some clones from merimobiles.com (or something) with TouchFlo and I think even WinMo 6.5 but then again obtaining those ROM's will be a quest in itself. Not sure if mine is being shipped with TouchFlo, it has it in the screen shots on the listening but that really counts for nothing .
I have seen a few threads on these devices and their flash capability but not any with any definitive results so hopefully I can get the ball rolling. When I actually receive my product I will be able to tell if it is actually using the same processor, etc.
I believe you will find that Hard SPL will not flash to unlock your device.
Many here have tried with the same knock-offs.
Unlock in which way do you mean?
Network unlock? (assuming not)
Maybe worth noting: The guy who is selling these flashes the phone with the version of WinMo (language-wise) that the buyer asks for before shipping out. Meaning they can be flashed, however with what ROM's and what method I've no idea. Might ask him?
Ok if I'm going to poke around this I have two questions to ask that will help me determine things about the phone:
(They may seem very dumb but I just need to clarify)
1. Is there a way to find out the Hard SPL version without installing a new one? Like the current one it has.
2. Is it possible to get into the Bootloader no matter what Hard SPL version you have?

No, SPL unlocks the OS, not the SIM.
Bootloader mode is how you determine your current SPL.
Okay. So I should be able to (hopefully) get into bootloader and find the SPL it currently has.
Well I guess thats it until I actually recieve the phone, cheers guys I'll post how I get on for the people who are interested.
It will be very interesting to hear about it. hope you get what you ordered?
God luck
Well, I'm back, for anyone who is interested!
Phone finally came, snow over here in the UK slowed it down haha!
So, the phone is very good for what I paid, and very nice.
I'd like to go about flashing it though, as it's currently running 6.1 with SPB Mobile Shell. SPB is very nice, but I really like the look of Touch Flo.
Now while cosmetically the phone looks pretty close to the TD2, it has a few things like no front camera (don't really care) and the zoom bar also seems to do absolutely nothing. The phone runs as smooth as it should. It has no g-sensor as far as I can tell, shame but doesn't really matter.
All of this sounds like it has no chance, I think it even has less RAM than it was meant to but I'm not sure... But here is why I am still curious about trying:
Windows Mobile is reporting that it is using the 528Mhz MSM7200A processor.
That is what I believe the real TD2 uses, correct me if I am wrong.
If this means it is using the same chipset or what-have you as the TD2, I don't know. This is why I need help.
Really, what I am asking, is what kind of things can I look at in the phone to tell what I could possibly flash it with?
Do you think the HardSPL utility you all use will work with it? Is there even any way to tell, or should I just try anyway? And could that break the phone beyond repair? Is there a way to find out the real specs of this phone, because it may have been modified so that it read that processor name?
What do you guys think. I'm willing to try all sorts, I just don't want to brick it with no way of getting it back that's why I am just asking for opinions before I do it anyway.
Thanks
You will brick your phone for sure if you try a rom for Diamond2, search this forum for chinese ROM (I saw it somewhere on another thread in Topaz section), but watch out that you will have a clean windows without customizations includind TF3D.
