Follow Kireol's advice and move cab file to the device (then disconnect from PC) and use FILE Explorer to find it and then tap it to install.

do you think AT&T is trying to keep a brother down ?
ive read about flashing roms from the acctual kaiser... in noobie language i believe this means that i should try to find the operating system from the HTC kaiser (not the tilt) and install it instead of what ive got.
do i need to install anything before i install cab files?
haha the onlything ive gotten to install was Live Search and Google Maps...

My advice to you ... always install this "SdkCerts.cab" BEFORE you start anything else ( tweaks .. installing ...etc )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52302&d=1190920271
found from this valuable thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438
and then install this one next !! :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
after the "KaiserTweak" above is installed ... use it and turn the "security prompt" to OFF !! among other things ( optional )
now ... happy tweaking and installing anything you'd like
P.S ... since you haven't really done anything to it ( except maybe did screwed it up a little somehow ?? )... do a hard reset and then follow the above advice
per request i am going to detail everystep in my miserable attempt to install any cab on my phone.
1) crawl this forum/ youtube for progs i find interesting
2) download to my computer not changing anything
3) move the files via active sync to my device (not on the storage card... directly to my documents)
4) open file manager
5) double click my cab
6) click ok to unsucessful install notification
some freeky occurances that may help you isolate my issues.
1) i can not delete anything from the device. if i try to delete something from the mydocuments folder (or even rename it) i get a sharing violation. this is not the case when i am in active sync on my computer.
follow my advice above
one thing about the native file explorer ... it is CRAPOLA !!
I personally used "RESCO EXPLORER" ( not free )
difference ?? Resco ( and others ) will let you rename/replace/move files ...etc while the native one is restricted somehow.
and it comes with a registry editor that make changes STICK ... other editors might let you do the changes but a lot of people reported that changes reverts back after a soft reset ... not so with RESCO
and about the CAB file being in your "My Documents" ..etc ... it is NOT a must !! it can be place anywhere and be executed !!!
now ... installing a program to a certain place ( main storage/SD Card) is a different story altogether.
P.S ... on odd occasion ... moving file via activesync tend to "convert/alter" the original too .. just on odd occasion
the settings is in ACTIVESYNC's --->>> TOOLS --->>> ADVANCE TOOLS menu
do yo have a memory card? are you installing to the memory card or the device?
i have tried both the card and the device with no luck. i tried hard reseting it.... didnt work.
i.e. wont even let me download cab files.
is there any way to hard refresh and use the kaiser software? (black today screen) ?
Did you add the sdkcerts cab as discussed above? I'm new at this too, but have never had any problem loading any cab on the storage card and running from there. Don't even know what the sdkcerts cab is, but put it on first per instruction and it's all a cakewalk. Try that

YOU DON'T open cab file with internet explorer !!!
it is meant to be run on your device via FILE EXPLORER ... !!!
I think you should try downloading things from a desktop PC for now and Hard RESET your device and try it from start ...
just do it through desktop and then transfer file(s) VIA card reader ... and re-read what mentioned about the sdkcerts.cab ... it is a REQUIREMENT !!

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. My tilt won't let me install any cabs or uninstall anything. It says "installation unsuccessful." I've tried to install sdkcerts.cab and it wont even install that.
Every cabs are diffrent, when you ask for help on certain issues you need to add information as what cab you talking about If you are refering to a homemade cab and get alot of "installation unsuccessful" moust of the comon errors is that you havent digitaly signed the cab, specialy working whit library files this is needed. Cabs rely on OS, diffrent ROM can contain diffrent OS -> meaning the effect can change from successful to unsuccessful installation
I used to be able to install cabs until recently. But now my phone won't let me install ANY cabs whatsoever, regardless of whether i use an exe or a cab. Further, when I try to delete anything through file explorer, I get "Cannot delete...Access is denied." I can delete things through active sync on my desktop though.

Noone here will wave a magic wand for you. How about some decent info on youre issue as phone, rom, spl or not. When did it happend after what? Apps installed and so on. If you cant provide more info or google youreself to an answer on this on I suggest you hard reset youre device.
Same problem here: recently CAB files won't install
I'm using a Kaiser. Here's my ROM etc.
ROM version: Essential WWE
ROM date: 18/04/2010
Radio version: 1.70.19.09
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
If I recall correctly, this is the link to the thread where I got this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629593
It's been running just fine, almost flawlessly, since April. But a couple of weeks ago I dropped the phone while getting up in the morning. Just a foot or so, onto thin mock-hardwood flooring, so it bounced a bit. The back cover popped off and out popped the extended battery. Of course there was the usual soft reset after putting things back together and pressing Power... but after this some things looked wrong. I found more and more errors as I tried using the device, so I went to a backup (use Resco Backup) and restored just the registry, choosing the 'stop all programs' option as usual with any whole or partial restore. After what seemed a successful registry restore and soft reset, the device was closer to how it had been, but still not quite 'right' somehow. I haven't had time for more fussing, too much work and family stuff going on, so I just left it at that. Daily PIMbackups offer the most important security for me anyway.
But I do like to use a lot of software, and would like to be able to install CAB files once in a while. Just yesterday I wanted to try Resco Pocket Radio v3.0, but found it wouldn't install. Not any error, just an eternal hourglass with no progress showing on the bar. No way to close out the install dialogue. It runs until soft resetting. I thought at first it was a Resco Radio CAB problem, but trying other known-good CAB files showed that it was the device.
So I'm left wondering what could have gone wrong. The battery has come out before, lots of times when I used to swap between two normal-capacity batteries, before getting this fat battery. Never saw a problem like this. Everything else seems to be working okay. I've had to tweak the odd setting since that glitchy restore, like alarms not sounding until I ran CalNot.exe (found in \Windows, part of the ROM) a few times and reset. Calendar and apMemo and other alarms all worked fine after that known fix. I'm back to an old glitch in the phone software where initiating any outgoing call triggers a loud partial beep. Got rid of that for a long time, but it's back. A bit of skin weirdness too, with plain blue showing up behind the Start Menu instead of my background, but that was easily fixed just running the skin again in Today options.
So there seems to be something a bit weird about CAB files and the Kaiser, for some people and some ROMs. Seems from this thread that it's not a specific ROM in question. I'll keep Googling, but frankly time is at a premium lately and I just don't have much of it for such things, and certainly not for a manual rebuild from a scratch ROM install. That can take me half a day with all the stuff I run. Tried a few times trimming down the software installs, but it's not not comfortable missing programs I've used regularly for years. So I'll live with this CAB problem until business lets up a bit. Unless of course someone comes up with a 'magic wand' to help out. ;-)

I'm just starting to get into the depths of my PDA2K and this site is GREAT!!!!!!! Since I'm just one step up from "The Village Idiot", I have a couple questions for all you pros.
After reading about using the extended ROM, and unlocking it and seeing what's in there, I think I've figured it out. Whatever CABs are listed in the config file will be installed upon a hard reset....correct? If true, and since I have only 3.5MB left in Ex ROM, can I put the other CABs I wanted installed in say /storage/CABs, list them in the config file and upon a hard reset they will be installed? Is there any reason to put them into Extended ROM rather than Storage? Is it alright to put CABs in from like games, Resco Explorer, WebIS Mail, etc.? Lastly is there a way to set the programs up where I don't have to go back and enter all the registration numbers again?
Thanks a ton for your help!!!
Tom
In extended rom they are not taking up your precious storage space on the device.

is it possible then to keep the installation cabs on storage card,
and also, can that path be set in the config file in ext rom?
what happens if a particular cab is not found after hard reset?
is the installation stuck or it just gives a warning and keeps on going to the next cab listed in the list.
Have a read of this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=83119#83119
It might be a bit to deep but should help you along the way.
1) You can keep a cab anywere you want
2) make sure your cab is read only as it can delete itsself after install.
3) to run a auto install from a differnet storage place you need to hack the reg (see thread).
In all if you have a sd card you could leave your EXt rom empty.
Hack the reg to the new postion and run the Autorun from there.
Have fun
Thanks for all the infor everyone! From what I've read in other threads I need to make sure that TPdisabled is set to off so that when programs like WebIS Mail and SplashID get installed I can touch the screen to make sure they install into the right place and other things. Correct? If this is correct, should I just remove TPdisabled all together?
Thanks again,
Tom
TPdisabled can't be set off, its either run or not run. So dump it and you wont have a problem
MDAIIIUser - Thanks for the link! I looked at it and you're right, it's pretty indepth and I'll have to read it more closely at a later time....like at work.
Question1: leochan2005 had a follow-up saying "why not use backup"? While I agree this would be easier, I'm assuming that by using your method one would get a much "cleaner" install than backing up all the crap that was on the system prior to the hard reset...correct?
Question2: It took me a long time to get my TMo settings setup on my PDA2K and I don't want to go thru that again. Is there a way to backup those settings so that they can be auto-configured at a later time? I read about making a personalsettings.CAB but haven't done it yet.
Thanks,
Tom

Thanks! I take it it should be at the beginning of the config file so that I can access it. Correct?
q1)
Well the short of "why not use backup" is you can if you feel that:
1) Restoring Regedit values from a lower rom version
2) Restoring system applications form a lower rom version such as BT
are called for, wanted or even needed.
I fail to see that point as a upgrade is an upgrade and a backup is a backup. Now you could do a restore of your system data also (which you could also sync and that would be clean
Q2)
Most fo those settings are part of T-mobile.cabs found in Extrom, the rest would have been reg entries that you are going to have to hunt for and copy.
So sorry no way around reading the other thread (personalsettings.CAB)
MDAIIIUser - Maybe I should state what I'm trying to accomplish and you could give me a clue as to how to do it. A couple days ago I upgraded by BT on my PDA2K (generic from Expansys) to 1.0.0.3900 (or what ever the latest is) and I'm currently looking at upgrading my radio to 1.12, but that would require a hard reset. I'm not in the mood to go thru all the program installs and SMS/MMS tweaking again, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get all my programs and configurations back after the hard reset. I thought by incorporating the personalsettings.cab (for my Tmo settings) and your method I would be up and running pretty quickly. Yes? I have Sprite Backup, but I'm not sure if that's going to overwrite anything after the radio upgrade????
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Well my logic (that could be wrong) would say that a restore of your backup would get you to were you are now.
That you would need a restore as you have to do a hard reset after the 1.12 radion install.
But I can't answer the question will the radio be restored as well,
I don't know, I don't know the settings in the backup application, so am sorry I will have to let somebody else answer this one.
Whenever I try to instal Cabs file, it give error...........The file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.........
These same cabs file were working fine till yesterday. Dont know what could have gone wrong. (Cingular 8125). I tried to browse to Extended ROM folder in Total Commander....but didnt delete any file there. However, when i again try to browse the Extended wrong, it shows many file names as garbage.
Otherwise my WIZARD is working fine. Activesync Apps are getting installed on my Wizard
Can someone guide me how i can get cabs files working again?
Error in Cabs Installation
Infact all the folders in 'Extended Rom' in Total Commander show names as junk characters. However, all file names are Ok.
So what are you trying to install and you say about the ext_rom!!! What file you trying to do?
Cabs Inst not working
I was just playing around and wanted to check if i can add new apps to Ext_ROM. I dont think i did any damage to it. But now i see that Cabs on my phone are not getting installed, and there are many folders in EXT_ROM, with junk names.

Did you cook your own Ext_rom??? Well if you did that means that it has been got damaged some how! I would flash it again and if you have the same problems i would go back to a pre cooked ext-rom and then try again!
I have loaded new ext rom. However, error still appears whenever I click to open a .cab file.
Any suggestions what I can do?
Hello all. Just got my phone on Orange and I like it. I have been a Mac-user for the past 12 years so I am used to not tweaking my gadgets. Can someone explain how I install the CABs onto my Kaiser via either my G5 iMac or my intel Macbook. Many thanks
do'h not very sure, but you might want to try the missing sync, grab the latest version, it now supports win5 and 6. basically that's what you need to synch your mac and PDA, but not very sure if you can install 'em through it though
Now how do I find the installed CAB
OK I have downloaded a CAB onto the Kaiser via Missing Sync. (HTC album mui 0419.cab) So how do I now find it on the phone and activate it or any other CAB?
Thanks again
not that hard
I get that you're new, I am too, but try to figure this stuff out by yourself.
Bluetooth should work for getting files onto the phone (my docs/bluetooth)
When you sync to the phone, the PC version is that you see the phone on the schema/folder tree and can choose where to put it.
When you find the cab file, opening it will install it. Generally try to put system specific things on main memory and things like games on a storage card.
Look at some must have threads to find programs that you like and after you figure it out try a hard reset and reinstall things. That will let you keep a stable device.
As for ROMS, I would be careful of even thinking about flashing on a mac unless you find a thread telling you how to do it, you don't want a bricked device.
Remember to search the forums - it's worth your time.
Just mount the kaiser with missing sync. After that, drag and drop the file to a location that you can remember. Once you do that, just go to the file explorer in the kaiser, locate the file, and click. You should be all set.
what about a non-cab files? with an .exe extension, will it be installable trough missing sync?
from what I can remember, Missing Sync is really broken at the moment. (under 10.5).
To install a cab, you just use the tab next to syncronize, what is it, the file tab or somehing?
if it's a .cab, it will be loaded automatically. But make sure there's no spaces/irregular characters on the .cab, otherwise, it won't load the installation, and possibly, the file will not be uploaded at all. I think this is a missing sync bug.
Nope, you're going to have to pull the .CAB out of the .EXE file

I'd really like to use this app, and it DOES install to my Pro. Unfortunately, when I attempt to open the app, it simply gives me an error message.
While I'm having problems, it would seem that some people are using TF3D Config with no problems.
Anyone have any idea what the prob could be?
Why the hell did they make a customization program for the Diamond, but not the pro?!
You probably need to install the .NET 3.5 cab for it to work. There is a link somewhere in this forum, sorry I don't have it.
Here's the download link for .NetCF v3.5 taken from this post.

If you are having problems getting it to run and your reg is correct DELETE the tweaks.xml file in the programs folder. you find this in file explorer or what ever program you prefer, Look where you installed it to. Internal or storage card, for example storagecard/programs/diamondtf3d/ HERE is where you will find the tweaks file to delete. then retry running tf3d. It seems you have to do this on the CDMA phones. It worked for me.

Try one other thing. Install .Net Configuration to internal memory (cab below). This allows you to change the compact framework version used for applications on your device.
Run '.Net Configuration' from your Start Menu.
Go to the 'Device Policy' tab and select version 3.5.
Selecting 'Apply' then 'OK'
That should do it.
thanks for your help.. after hard-reset, i managed to use the TF3D config (after installing netCF and the config that you attach).. thanks

There is another option though: simply replace the original "tweaks.xml" file with the file supplemented on this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3052976&postcount=1211
(just save the file as a .xml file rather than it's current .txt version).
After I switched the files, I was able to use the Tweaks option on Diamond TF3D Config, and in my opinion, the tweaks made a HUGE difference to the overall performance of TouchFlo 3D on my Sprint Touch Pro.

I installed it on my internal memory ran it and it installed. That part was all good
However when I get to the point of picking the version all I have is default and 2.0.7045.

Hey ive installed the tf3d config and deleated the tweaks file for my touch pro but once i run the program and go to the tweaks Tab its blank and wont let me tweak anything, my theory is because i dealeated the tweaks file but if u have to deleat that in order for it to work why have it....well the real question is, is there any way to install tf3d config and runit without having to deleat the tweaks file so i can ACTUALLY tweak my htc touch pro??
the tweaks file
i did what this post is say to get the app to install and it is running BUT how do you adjust any of the performance screen sensitivity with the tweak file gone?
is there anyone that has got this to run on a htc pro adn are able to set the screen sensitivity? i came from a htc 6800 and that way a great screen this one seems like i need to push on it like the berrys storm (it SuXs)
Problem solved. Thanks.
i've installed all above suggested programes(.net CF 3.5, netcfcfg) and applied new settings and restarted the phone. it's just not working on my touch pro 2. the error message i've got is "Diamond TF3D Config.exe NotSupportedException"
anyone has the same problem? any sugguestion or solutions please!! thanks a lot!
Since MrPippy no longer seems to be maintaining the thread over here, I figured I'd bring the latest way to properly run xdandroid on Touch Diamond CDMA devices. This has been tested on my Sprint Touch Diamond (DIAM500), your device may vary.
Android 2.2.2 (Froyo) for CDMA Diamond
Instructions:
From this xda post, download the XDANDROID build (currently 7/05/11).
From the XDANDROID zip file, extract AndroidApps/, conf/, media/, zImage, haret.exe, system.ext2, initrd.gz, modules-*.tar.gz, and rootfs.img into a directory called /andboot/ directory of your Internal Storage. If you extract the folder FRXnn/ (where the nn is the build) you can rename the folder to andboot/.
If you are using DIAM500 (Sprint's CDMA), navigate to FRXnn/STARTUPS/DIAM/DIAM500 inside the zip file, and extract the file called startup.txt into /andboot/ of your Internal Storage. These contain the necessary instructions for Haret to start Android on the Diamond. There are several other types of Diamond config file to try inside the zip file if you are not using Sprint's Touch Diamond, and should be renamed startup.txt if named differently.
The list of files you should have inside the Internal Storage should now look like:
/andboot/AndroidApps/*
/andboot/conf/froyo.user.conf
/andboot/media/*
/andboot/zImage
/andboot/haret.exe
/andboot/system.ext2
/andboot/initrd.gz
/andboot/modules-*.tar.gz
/andboot/rootfs.img
/andboot/startup.txt
Click to collapse
If you want the older way of having everything in / (root) of the Internal Storage, just move everything from /andboot/ and also delete the argument rel_path=andboot from startup.txt.
Unplug the Diamond from the computer, and run /Internal Storage/andboot/haret.exe to start XDANDROID. If you have not done the calibration, there will be a white square with a cross that you will have to click on a few times. On first boot, it will take time for the system to set up the correct APN for data (usually a few minutes). If you get an error saying that no connection can be made, wait until the 3G icon appears on top before doing anything that requires data (Marketplace, etc.)
---
Optional: Download the latest rootfs Zip file from here.
Extract and rename the file rootfs-*.img to rootfs.img, and replace the one already in your Internal Storage.
Optional: Download the latest kernel bzip file from the links in the xdandroid post (several are provided) using 7Zip. Extract the modules-*.tar.gz and zImage.* file to your Internal Storage. You must then rename the zImage-* file to zImage after renaming/deleting the existing one. If you do not do this, Haret will not use the latest kernel file.
Caveats:
If you are running any previous versions of XDANDROID, it is highly recommended that you delete your data.img. This will wipe all your existing apps and data, but you can save your downloaded apps by going into /data/app and/or /data/app-private and copying it to /sdcard, but you need a root-capable file explorer.
GPS takes a while to get a position fix. It is working, but since there seems to be no AGPS support, it may take up to 15 min for the AGPS chip to get a fix on ephemeral data. Running QuickGPS from WM and keeping it updated seems to help a lot.
If you enable smart backlighting in WM, XDANDROID is unable to set the backlight level. Hopefully this will be addressed soon, since other devices (Rhodium, etc.) now has backlight support working.
If you still have trouble running XDANDROID, then make sure you post at least the following: What type of Diamond you have (model #), the startup.txt you are using (open it in Notepad to see the mtype), the build of XDANDROID you are using (along with any rootfs/kernel updates if applicable), and the last thing it does that you can see (ie. Haret reboots WM instead of running XDANDROID). Without this information, it isn't helping you or the person trying to help in order to figure out what may be going wrong.
A lot of information that applied to Andriod 2.1 (Eclair) also applies to 2.2 (Froyo), with the exception of where the files are located (/ vs. /andboot on the Internal Storage). I've kept Eclair-related instructions below.
Android 2.1 (Eclair) for CDMA Diamond Instructions: (for historic reasons)
From this xda post, download the latest XDANDROID build (currently 6/21/10).
From the XDANDROID 7z file, extract AndroidApps/, media/, zImage, haret.exe, system.ext2, initrd.gz, modules-*.tar.gz, and rootfs.img into the root of your Internal Storage. You must use a computer to extract this, none of the WM/Android apps have enough memory to extract the 7z file correctly!
Create (don't copy) a directory called conf/ on the root of your Internal Storage. Now navigate to conf/Diamond inside the 7z file, and extract the file called eclair.user.conf into the conf/ directory. This is important, you should have a file named conf/eclair.user.conf, not conf/Diamond/eclair.user.conf.
If you are using DIAM500 (Sprint's CDMA), navigate to STARTUP CONFIG/DIAM500 inside the 7z file, and extract the file called STARTUP.TXT into the root of your Internal Storage. If you are having problems with Haret restarting WM instead of booting, you can try the one inside CONFIG/DIAMOND100 or rename CONFIG/DIAM-STARTUP.TXT to STARTUP.TXT. Each file has a different MTYPE, and is most likely the cause of failure to boot into XDANDROID. (DIAM500 mtype 2040, DIAM100 mtype 1805, the unknown DIAM-STARTUP one uses mtype 1910)
Unplug the Diamond from the computer, and run haret.exe to start XDANDROID. On first boot, you cannot connect to Google's server until you have entered an APN (regression bug from 6/12/10.) Skip the account stuff for now, go into Settings→Wireless&Networks→Mobile Networks→APN, and create an APN with Name: Internet and APN: Internet. Press the Home key (to bring up the menu), Save, and then select the APN. You should get the 3G icon in a few seconds.

Good call on starting the new thread. Kind of strange that Mr. Pippy never said anything before he took off.
For pure convenience, it may be best for the OP to compile a weekly build with all necessary files. Noobs might fare better if babied along and that would also assist in keeping this thread focused on more pressing issues.
I keep running into: "failed to mount the Sd card"
Edit: NVM, found the solution
so ran the new droid all night no hiccups but noticed that the time isnt synced it was off by ten minutes tried out the nav. drove to work looked at the time again it was now off by almost 15 mins maybe someone can enlighten me on this issue or is it just me
The only error I am getting is a keyboard error.
I did all steps as described above but if I run on haret.exe it says something like starting linux... but it just restarts the mobile and windows is starting again...
do you have any glue whats wrong?

apparently this is common and its due to the lag at startup of transferring files from the sd card... just press wait and it shouldnt be an issue

wrong startup.txt? you'll needa post more info about the error probably
Fail?
i think its cuz its only diam 500 not all the other cdma´s like diam 100??
(i mean that fail about startup)
Has there been any progress on metro data yet? This is the only reason why i uninstalled it from my phone. There was progress porting the us cellular data which uses proxies like metropcs for the touch with the android. There have also been native droid devices ported to work on metro as well so in theory it should be possible if anyone wants to work on this drop me a pm or discuss it here.
ok there is a issue with haret i for one can vouch for it the new haret.exe does not boot properly i dont know why or what is wrong but i know the issue is around i have a old haret that i use and works great even the new build has the same problem now if i can only fix my clock sync issue ill be happy

this is all i'm waiting for too.
ok found a fix for the clock still no reboots up and running for 26 hours now been unplugs for 7 hours and im at 34 % battery talk time 27 mins and lets say 5 text messages id say thats damn good
Great How-To post, got it working on my Diamond without any issues at all. Learning how to actually use Android is another matter.
notes:
mapping doesn't work, I presume it's because the GPS stuff is not functional
some of the hardware buttons are a bit confusing, just a matter of experience but it will take some getting used to
the device EATS battery power, and gets crazy hot when you start playing with the browser and other Android apps'
lack of any USB connectivity (beyond charging) is sort of limiting, hopefully it will be improved
so far I'm so impressed with XDANDROID, not that I hate Windows mobile but it is a great way to preview Android, especially for people like me who've only use WM.

RE-alive xandroid HTC DIAMOND 500 CDMA

Since MrPippy no longer seems to be maintaining the thread over here, I figured I'd bring the latest way to properly run xdandroid on Touch Diamond CDMA devices. This has been tested on my Sprint Touch Diamond (DIAM500), your device may vary.
