PIM management (Agenda One?) + sync with Google Calendar / Gmail - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Dear all,
I have my new TyTN II since a few hours, and I'm already looking for a better PIM software than the default WM2006 apps. I need to manage my schedule (w/ several sub calendars such as work, personal, etc..), my tasks, and my contacts. I absolutely need to sync my schedule with Google Calendar. Syncing my contacts with my GMail address book would also be nice.
So, here comes my two questions:
1. I found Agenda One, which has a very positive feedback on most forums. Is there another comparable PIM suite that I should take into account ? If any, what are the main differences and your own preference/experience ?
2. I heard about OggSync, syncmycal, pocketgcal, gcalendarsync and Goosync and GMobileSync to sync with google calendar. I don't know if there are others, and I don't know which one is the best. Do you have some advices ?
Thanks in advance for your replies
Aurélien.
PS: Paying for licence is not a problem as long as the software is working well

Sync calendar to Google Calendar

Is there a good app anyone can recommend for syncing the diamond with google calendar?
I am new here and thanks to all for the hard work on the diamond. Cant wait to get mine later this week!
Oggsync.
http://oggsync.com/beta/OggSync.CAB
For manual sync it's free, and works perfect.
Try ActiveGsync (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-activegcsync-v1-0.html)
Haven't tried it personally but I hear positive stuff about this app. It has auto-sync as well and is freeware
goosync.com has a free manual two way sync program that I use
hi, i developed a small tool to synchronize the google calendar with pocket outlook. is a beta but if you want to give it a glance. In future also sync contacts.

I tested many google calendar sync programs. You may have a look at my blog entry here:
http://diamondstouch.blogspot.com/2008/07/google-calendar.html
However I finally gave up and paid for the professional goosync account. The non-commercial programs either don't work, sync only one calendar or work one-way. Since I installed goosync everything works without any hickups: multiple calendars, two-way sync, automatically scheduled. If this is really worth 20 English Pounds (for one year) is another question ...

Activegcsync for Google Calendar (multiple calendars)
Try Activegcsync by Gil Milow. Unlike other software I have tried (eg. GMobileSync), it works very well for multiple calendars (and contacts). It is available free.

Free sync and backup pocket outlook to Google account

http://www.nuevasync.com I just set this up through the exchange server feature in activesync. It is an over the air sync to google calendar and contacts in gmail. (No pictures with the contacts in gmail ) I had a problem with duplicates at first, but I think that was because I was trying oggsync, goosync, and nuevasync at the same time. It appears to be working fine now. There are other options out there, but this one appears to be the easiest and free-est one out there without limitations. I hope you enjoy this as much as I am.
!Backup your stuff with PIM backup or something similar before you sync just in case!
very nice i will try it now
thanks chiles
with this we can now also change devices, roms, etc withoug worrying about PIM data loss

Can you set categories in Google Calendar and it sync over? That's my biggest annoyance, I 'need' categories in order to have PhoneAlarm do specific actions for me based on the event category, such as "Work meeting" quietens everything, but there are some others that set the power on time different, or make the sounds louder, etc.. That all works with using Outlook to sync, but I haven't seen an online solution that works yet.
I haven't tried. I seem to remember that goosync would dumb down your category to the one default category. It might have been an old version or something. Good luck with it though! I just looked and I didn't see any category option on the google calendar webpage.

Well...My contacts lost their pictures on the gmail contacts page. This doesn't keep all of the information. I also lost my throttle contact category information. It's good for a sim card backup tho
I haven't used it myself yet. However, on quick inspection, the settings page recognizes multiple calendars, so it might sync in separate categories. There doesn't seem to be an option to only sync contacts with phone numbers, so I don't want to use it yet because gmail creates new contacts for those you email.
gave it a try and seems to work well! i only sync my calendar(s) and fits to it almost perfectly. the only problem is.. i'm having multiple calendars at my google calendar, and i cannot decide which calendars to sync. anyways that's better than goosync, only one calendar can be selected to sync.. otherwise have to upgrade to pro.. :E
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I was using scheduleworld with the funambol client, but that stopped being able to connect. I would like to try to us nuevasync, but for as simple as the setup instructions are my activesync says that "Microsoft exchange did not accept my logon credentials". The server source is setup per the instruction on nuevasync site. I am running the stock ATT rom with WM6.0. I haven't knowingly changed any of my network settings and internet and email still work properly, but I can not get either funambol or nuevasync to work. Any thoughs would be appreciated.

How to sync with outlook?

As above, how do I use my HTC Dream to sync with my Outlook? Contacts, Calendar entries, Tasks and Notes?
I use "CompanionLink" works perfect.
Personal outlook on your home computer?
Yup, MS outlook on my home laptop.
The only way that I know of is to use a HERO or Rogers rom and the HTC Sync software. Every other solution that I've heard of is a 2 step sync from your outlook to google and then google to your phone.
You'll probably need to install the PCSCII.apk, since most devs remove it from their roms. get that here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4740940&postcount=13
and then download the HTC sync software from htc.com.
Also, if you use a rogers rom, you'll only get contacts to sync, using a hero rom will get you both contacts and calendar.
So the HTC sync software will only work with HTC Hero, am I right?
I'm using it on my G1 that's flashed with Mlign's 2.5.7 Hero Rom. I have not been able to make it work with non-hero roms. But, really I haven't tried too hard at that. I don't know what it needs from the Hero rom. I assume it's the HTC framework.
google Calendar sync works great for the calendar
Oh okay, anyone tried CompanionLink? Is it good?
Companionlink is a Sync through Google solution.
I see. Can it sync contacts and notes, calendar from Outlook?
I've never tried it, but it appears it would at least do Contacts and Calendar. But, if you're willing to sync through Google, I'm sure there a cheaper or even free solutions for that.

Yes it does, it allows you do do categories, outlook folders, alarms, date range, etc (companionLink)
If i'm willing to go through google, what is some of the free applications I can use? Simple sync entries i would need is contacts, calendar entries and notes.
Sorry, I don't know off the top of my head. When I was searching for this, I saw the google has an outlook plugin that will Sync the calendar. I also saw a different plugin that would sync Contacts. I'd start with googling outlook plugins.
good luck.
Companionlink now has a Sync over USB direct with outlook. I was excited and thought that I had finally found my answer. then I read:
----------------------------
Data we sync
* Contacts sync to the built-in address book on the phone
* Calendar events sync to a custom calendar app
* Tasks sync to a custom tasks app
* Notes sync to a custom notes app
Our custom Calendar app shows events in Day view only. Month view and other scheduling options are coming. Recurring events and exceptions are supported. Adding and editing recurring events must be done on the PC.
Our custom Tasks and Notes apps support categories, sort, and search functionality.
----------------------------
Sigh, it doesn't use the built in calendar database, so it won't work with any calendar widget. So close, but still no cigar. Oh well, maybe they'll wise up and just be a sync provider.
1. CompanionLink (http://www.companionlink.com/androidusb/index.html)
2. Mark/Space (http://www.markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html)
3. Various Google Cloud <-> Outlook solutions (Paid or free, Google them)
4. HTC Sync from some HTC-specific ROMS (e.g. Hero)
Take note that since Android has no built-in notes and tasks applications, nor a standardized database structure for them, those supporting and plan-to-support notes/tasks are/will be syncing to some custom notes/tasks apps.
The Companion's solution even syncs to a custom Calendar app.

Yeah, that was the disappointing part. I don't think a custom calendar app is a good idea.
Not sure if you're willing to pay anything, but roadsync syncs calendar, contacts and e-mail. Even has a calendar widget. I think it's like $25 now (I got in early and only had to pay $10). works well for me though.
how about syncing notes from outlook? is there one that can do that?

[Q] Google/Android Outlook Complete Sync Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Tasks/Notes

Google/Android Outlook Complete Sync Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Tasks/Notes
Has any one found a complete solution for android milestone outlook sync?
Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Tasks/Notes
I just don't see android that useful without this feature to completly sync with outlook. It seems even the paid apps don't support full sync and their reviews are bad.
Also, how do I import my old SMS from WM6.1 *.pst file to Android, any tools out there?
Thanks very much ... looking forward for the Froyo update
Would like to get the answer on syncing, too. The problem might be that for example Outlook contact field do not correspond to Google contact fields - how to sync that is a big question.
If there is a solution not for sync, but for one-time convertion of all info from Outlook to Android that would be great, too.
Thank you!

[Q] Any updates on Outlook Sync?

Running fresh install 2.2 on captivate - I've spent the last several hours trying to find a way to sync the captivate with outlook... and nothing is coming up as a reliable & cheap way. I would have never thought that a modern(ish) phone would have issues syncing with outlook. Never had a problem from the old 8125 up to iphone 3gs... but thought I would check with y'all to see if anything less than $50 has come up that would do the trick. I've tried Kies/MyPhoneExplorer(didn't see outlook calendar data except holidays and recurring events). I don't want to mess with google calendars and I live by the calendars for scheduling business! Any recent developments I should look in to?
Android and Outlook have generally never been close friends. There are a few paid apps you can find that do a very good job of keeping your information in sync.
If your business uses exchange you can set up your exchange account in the e-mail app on your phone and it will allow you to sync you mail, calendar and contacts.

Unfortunately my work is my business of me, myself, and I - so I haven't popped for an exchange server, but the frustration is almost close enough to just look into getting one done - and I've had a hard time finding an ap that syncs outlook and respective contact fields properly with the phone. I understand it's a google vs. MS deal and so they don't want to make it an easy one.... but it's a stupid idea since it will just push people to use iPhone, IMO. For now, I've relented to having to clumsily use google sync and the google calendar program to sync between to two. I just hate having middlemen to have to do it.
I use Kies 1.5.3.10093_80. I hear the newer versions are blocked from working with the captivate, but the older version works find for syncing w/outlook on my home system.

I use Google Calendar Sync and GO Contact Sync Mod. My ISP uses Google Apps for email etc... They were both free and work well.

I use the same apps, to keep contacts and calendar sync. For the E-Mail I just configure in Outlook the Gmail account as IMAP. The only drawback is with the custome field in google that Outlook can't handle.
