I just got my Tilt/Kaiser and am trying to set up the GPS. Can someone comment on the best solution for using the GPS?
Thanks!

A tip for you buddy: Search!
From your question it is not clear whether you want recommendations for which programs to install or help setting up the gps. For initial set up see here. For program recommendations it depends on what you want to do eg. geocaching, in car navigation, tracking, finding your lost phone etc. As the previous poster said SEARCH

Hi bros!!!i think i might have solve the GPS no/slow fix problem! Its so simple!dun need to hard reset!just use advance config and disable gps logging!tats all!!!Good luck guys
what's GPS loggin? and could you explain your previous problem? i havent use the GPS to the max till now, just use it for finding adres in a big city with ''My location''
Sounds interresting.
That might be what creates those GPSlog text files present in the main windows directory right after you use the GPS once.
One is easily erasable (GPSlog back up) but the GPSlog itself requires a reboot to be deleted.
Didn't know it was possible to desactivate it. Anybody know the registry key to turn off? (then no need to use advance config just for this)

So your solution is to resolve, GPS Fix time? not GPS lag?
Think your thread title should have been more descriptive.

No I should apologise, just getting annoyed at the amount of threads with solutions to the GPS issues and none are really sorting the issue out. I have the opposite, I get a fix within milliseconds, just the lag is annoying
I'm pretty much convinced that graphics have nothing to do with the lag problem and that signal strength is irrelevent.
The one thing that I have noticed is that, when I come to a stop after driving the GPS software (IGO 8) tracks me to the correct position, it's just while moving there is a delay.
This also shows that the GPS chipset is accurate, unlike other people have been saying. Have also tried external BT receivers, which also produced the same lag.
So my opinion is that the Diamond (Rough Diamond ) is interperating the data incorrectly and I need some crazy hard core developer to fix it
My wife and I are big into Geocaching now. Can anyone tell me what rom/kernel has been the most accurate them? It doesn't matter to me what version of android I use. I am finding that NFX 2.1 gets me to the relative position but acts a little crazy at times. As far as CM6, I am finding it to be even less accurate. I'd like to avoid buying a handheld gps if I can.
I have also tried downloading the GPS Status & Toolbox from the market and reset and downloaded GPS assist data. While this works sometimes, I find that it often freezes the GPS temporarily.
Any thoughts guys? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have already searched the forum for answers and have not found anything specific to what I am looking for.
Any stable rom/kernel combination will be as accurate as any other, in any given situation. The algorithm used to determine GPS positioning is imbedded in the radio software, and is independent of the rom or kernel.
I've been using Google MyTracks for a long time, on many different roms, to record my mountain bike rides deep in the woods. I've not seen any accuracy differences between any of the roms/kernels I've used. I've observed that accuracy is highly dependent on the quality of signal I'm getting from the satellites ... deep in the woods, my position might be off 20 feet or more, but out in the open prairie I'll be accurate to 3 feet or less.

The accuracy of the GPS is actually very dependent on hardware. Where you get assistance in accuracy is using the cell tower positions to help your location results in combination with the GPS receiver itself. That has a lot more to do with a radio than a kernel. I would try to make sure your using the most recent radio, if it doesnt work better, then flash an older one. There are several geocaching apps on the market that help you with your GPS coordinates. There is no perfect science to geocaching, and your phone GPS will never be as accurate as a dedicated mobile GPS unit. That being said, I use my phone for it, and the extra time it takes to find the cache is part of the enjoyment of doing it in the first place!! Good luck!
This may be impossible but I was just curious as to if I could use my phone as a bluetooth GPS unit for my Viewsonic G Tablet.
My GPS seems to work just fine it has from stock and continues to do so through many custom ROMS.
I know that I can purchase a Bluetooth GPS Unit to use with my Tablet but I had a thought about using my phone to do the same thing.
If this is not possible its cool, if it is could someone point me in the right direction or even post a link.
If this is in the wrong forum please move it to the correct one. I wasn't sure where to place this question.
Bump anybody have any suggestions

Has anybody heard of this? Can it be done?

Ok after doing some research I was able to get this working. Using "GPS 2 Bluetooth v2" (available in market) and "Bluegps4droid" (search the forums). This has saved me some money.
You could also try ShareGPS on the market. All of them serve the same purpose
TetherGPS Lite
Found this and tried it the other day. Seems to work with my NOOK Color. Curently using the "Lite" version, only good for 5 minutes at a time, but free to try.

Hey Guys,
I am currently running XXJVP with CF-Root 3.7.
Since around 2 weeks I have the Problem that my GPS doesn't lock on any Satellite, it actually finds, if at all one or two Satellites in GPS Test but can't connect to any of them.
I searched now the whole week for any Fix, tried several solutions (set the NTP Server to at.pool.ntp.org), checked the settings in Lbs Test Mode, tried various in there, updated to the last Firmware (was on FroYo before) but it all didn't help.
I am not sure if it is an hardware issue as it does find satellites but is actually just not able to lock on to them.
Any suggestions what else I shall have a look at?
Thanks a lot in advance and best regards,
stefan
You might want to try this method, which seems to have helped some
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043034&highlight=how+i+fixed+my+gps
Ah thanks for that.
I will have a look later on when I am at home and give it a test.
The second suggestions looks a bit more complicated actually.
But anyway - i think it is fantastic to pay 200€ for a smartphone for having then manually fiddle around on the gps antenna to get it working....
"thumbs up" for that!
Just wanted to let you know the first Hint worked for me so thanks alot again for it
still have problems with the battery but will check other threads and see if I can find out something.
Hello, I'm a recent owner of a SGS, and like many others, GPS is somewhat of an issue to me. However, reading around, there are a lot of fixes and solutions, and I want to know what people generally recommend to do on latest stock firmware to increase its accuracy?
Thanks!
I know it's a dumb name, but give "GPS AIDS" a try from the market. It was primarily made for SGS users. Try the free version first if still available...

stock jvt gps is really good in comparison to out-of-box performance, and a lot better than wife's htc desire running on cm7.1. I get 10+ satellite lock in a few seconds, with a 10m accuracy. honestly, I don't need anything more than that (more often than not, I DO know where I am...) . Just make sure gps.conf file points to your region.
I tried recently a couple of these "fixes" ($omator, pfittech) but reverted back to stock files. I did not find any significant improvement, but of course you can give it a try, maybe in your region things are different
Well, thing is I don't know if GPS is working or not for me. In Google Maps the most accurate I can get is 30 meters, is that using cell triangulation or GPS?
Apparently 30 meters is not GPS from what I've been reading around. Guess that means I haven't used it at all.
Try GPS AIDS.
My GPS never worked before, I tried GPS AIDS and it gave me surprising results .

Topic link not working
Anyway, I tried GPS Aids, and I get 10/11 found, and in use alternating between 5-10.
I just want to confirm, what does accuracy average at for you guys? It was mainly at 30 meters for me most of the time, with it rarely at 10m. Is there a way to increase accuracy?

Mine is accurate enough to tell which house I'm at. In Google Maps, there is no blue circle around my location (well, only when it's still searching).
I use GPS AIDS. If the program doesn't work, read about what it does. You can also edit the files manually.

Nope, I have a blue circle around me all the time. Guess that means it's not working well for me?

Yep, it probably could be better than that. Give GPS AIDS a try.

How to do GPS Fix
http://www.hdtechvideo.com/?p=43
Ever since I flashed to JVR stock, my GPS has been locking on the satellites like a charm. I'm not sure if the credit goes to the new JVR or higher firmware, but definitely give that a try if you're still on some of the older Gingerbread firmwares.
GPS AIDS doesn't seem to improve that much, still usually on 30m, rarely at 10m, not really accurate.
I really need help with this, thanks in advance!
