Viewing web cams in Windows Live/Messanger - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Ok, I realized we can't do full video calls, at least not with the Tilt. However, if I'm chatting/IM'ing with someone who has a webcam, is there a way I can view their stream? I use AgileMobile mostly, but Windows Live/Messanger should have that capability, I should think.
Anyone?

It does not have that capability built in.
However, there's something called "Microsoft Portrait" (just google/livesearch it). I tried installing it and it did not work for me on the kaiser (fails to load up - issues with finding the camera and what not).
I have a Kaiser though - maybe it's not of an issue with the Tilt.

I really hope they introduce web cam convo's on WLM Mobile.
That MS Portrait looks reather dated, and more for corporate implentation.

Best Apps for Kaiser

A guy like me prefers a diffrent sort of app campaign than most ppl
On my tytn.. before it went for a swim i had app along these lines:
Emulators
Media player close to Winamp.. Gps player or sumthin like that, it was capable of streaming internet radio was well as playing mp3's
Instant messenger program.. i was using octrotalk because it was free and offer many of the same features of Im+ and Agile messenger. although i woudl have liked the send picture feature that Agile has!
Google Maps... with the Kaisers GPS i cant imagine how sweet It'll be
Alternate camera App.. i forgot what mine was called but it booted up much faster and offered a couple more options that the stock camera app
Java and Flash for Internet Browsing
Finally tons of custom Today screens and Dial pads.. i wasnt to into the lakeridge software apps because they required me to pay, and they ran off of my windows mobile OS as a completly diffrent OS (almost)... but the dial pads i found at zombienexus were pretty sweet
If anyone has gone ahead and found their favorite apps along these lines for their Kaiser i would apreciate it if they could post this findings for me and the rest of the forum users!

Video Calls over WiFi?

I have googled th earht and found nothing.
Does anybody know of an application for Video calls over WiFi?
Not the 3G Video Calls!
I did find a nice application for Video Streaming which works only one way - you can generate a LIVE video streaming and the "world" can see you. (check out comvue).
The WebCamera solution for making the TyTn II a web cam for your PC is nice but not exactly what I am looking for.
Anyone with new/other ideas?
and yes, I know "MS Portrait", but it is far from being the application I was looking for.
Thanks for any help/advice.

nothing, sorry. Hopefully, some time, MS Portrait becomes a decet app (albeit I don't think it'll ever happen as front camera API's are just not published by HTC; this is why MS Portrait can't access the front camera.)
thanks, i will keep my eyes open.
it is a shame that no one developed somthing yet...

Youku on Kaiser

This is my first time posting so go easy.
Since getting the Kaiser I have really wanted to be able to stream videos from Youku or Tudou since it has pretty much everything. The TCPMP video loader doesn't seem to be working anymore and the only way I have been able to achieve this is by searching the site for the video I want, copying the link into www.clipnabber.com and then copying the download links into TCPMP. Does anyone know of an easier way, or perhaps is anyone willing to write a program similar to youtubeplay to allow us to do this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Just wait for the new Opera mobile to come out which supports flash?
Then you can go directly to youku or tudou websites and play whatever you want.
have you tried skyfire?
its not like tcpmp (instead it plays within the browser) but it has a nice zoom feature that basically makes it full screen.
Actually my version of Opera plays video from youku in the browser. It only started about a week ago, problem is it's slower than a three legged dog. And as for Skyfire, not in the US so thats not an option. I just thought somebody might be willing to write a program considering how many TV shows and stuff are available on youku. By the way is TCPMP with videoloader working for anyone?

What do you do with your Xperia?

Ok, just thought I'd post to see what everyone does with there Xperia X1 so that others can see what the phone can be used for and what not.
Currently I just use the phone for the phone, text, e-mail (with T-Zones) and use the Garmin a lot. Rather than that I'm still exploring on what to add to the phone.
I flashed a couple roms, from TF3D to the R2A and found that I am more satisfied with the R1A using the performance tweaks. I do like the TF3D but I like being able to pop the keyboard and type for anything that needs typing
I'm trying to incoprorate the phone as a music player and listen to music more so I'm going to be using the media panel, unless someone else can suggest something better. I want to be able to see all my songs and create a playlist rather easily and shuffle the songs.
Another thing I would like to have just incase is the WiFi tether for my laptop. I know t-zones is rather slow but having some internet would be better than nothing.
I also thought about blogging and taking random pictures to kind of keep up with whats going on in my life and that sort of thing. The facebook panel is ok, but I'd rather have like flickr or something to upload the pictures and blog about it.
So what do YOU guys do with your Xperia? And what do YOU guys recommend?
I use mine for email, web, gps, the odd photograph, writing articles (usually with a photo) and as an Mp3 player..
Never usually bother with txt and obviously make the odd phone call.
Then there's all the tweaking, tinkering and hacking..
as to music I tend to use the one in TF3d, which works fine for my needs, (but then I just stick it on shuffle).
Without tf3d I use either
Conduits pocket player (which is a really good music player (commercial) and uses media player skins see http://mylostblog.altervista.org/ for some of those)
freeware there's mortplayer, and s2p, but s2p doesn't do playlists just yet, possibly next version by the look of it.
Never got on with tcmpmpmpm/coreplayer but others love it.
- Full email with built-in messaging and marvellous ProfiMail
- Full Internet (OperaMobile 9.5, OperaMini 4.2)
- YouTube
- Photos, and sometimes video recording
- Music
- RSS Feeds
- Constant work with Office, especially Pdf and Word (currently DocsToGo but planning to get Softmaker)
- Of course extensive use of Calendar, Notes, Tasks (busy life)
- GoogleMaps
- And utilities like ExpenseDiary, Stopwatch, Dictionary, Calc and Currencies!
- Ebooks reading
- Simple Weather app by Gega (great!)
- screen capture utility to catch maps from google maps when abroad (cheap and practical!!!)
As for UI, I just love panels and have two of them (one clean, one with most of my apps I use and all I need)
I also use MediaPanel which supports creating playlists. I don't really watch movies on X1 since it basically kills battery. Anyway there's a sticky containing good converter for videos for X1.
Hope it helps, apparently I don't do too little with my Xperia.....
First of all, don't blog. Too many people doing it, too few people caring, you'd be wasting your time.
Beside that, my uses include (in order of importance)
- Tinkering
- Calling
- Sms messages
- Musicplayer
- Video's
- Email
- Games (SNES)
- Random stuff
Apart from the obvious; making calls.
-I surf the net alot with Opera.
-Use mt 8GB card to listen to music synced via PC(always shuffle)
-Watch Youtube sometimes
-GPS with TomTom is wow( Where would we be without GPS)
-Some games - actually bejewelled
-E-mail - a lot of e-mail. Windows Live rocks
-Texting too.
I've been using Windows Mobile aka Pocket PC Phone Edition when it first came out in 2000. Same what you will about Microsoft but they've got the best Mobile software in existence. Believe it or not, I'e never owned a regular cell phone. Been using WinMo since MS launched the XDA with T-Mob in 2000.
-turn it back on when it turns off
-restart it when coreplayer crashes
well i gotta admit i love mobile gaming. This phone really dissapointed me, a lot. Gaming sucks so hard. Hopefully with all these WVGA phone coming, there will be more support for gaming. Even emulators suck, compared to those on Symbian.

Weather (SPB Weather 2) daily
Currency (SPB Traveller) - occasionally (once a fortnight)
Word and Excel - every few days
Powerpoint and PDF on and off (I may have heavy usage for a few days then not use it for a month)
SPB Wireless Monitor (Daily - my telco can't seem to give me accurate usage estimates)
Pocket.RAR - lots at the moment... probably not so much in the future (I can't install winrar on my work pc)
Run.GPS UV Trainer - I would like to say daily... but I haven't been that good at the moment
TomTom7 - when I drive my car that doesn't have a gps built in (mainly on weekends - although I do prefer the gps on my x1 to the one in my other car).
Games - THPS2 daily, SPB Air Islands - once every few days, sudoku... when I am really really bored.
Radio and MP3 - daily
Movies - a few times a week (currently using coreplayer).
Almost Forgot... soft reset - multiple times daily at the moment...
wow. Thanks for all the comments guys.
1) I agree with the emulators being crappy compared to Symbian and stuff. I really wish we had a better one cause I love the idea for landscape and having a keyboard.
2) I like the weather panel. Reminds me of the TF3D weather and the iPhones weather. Very nice.

Is there a webcam app on the platform yet?

Anyone came across one? I'm hoping to either buy one tomorrow but if there is one for Android I'd much rather save my cash..
Thanks
i want this also, would be very handy.
We don't even have a working video camera yet, so this isn't very likely until some time much farther down the road, if ever.
im sorry to say, but there is a video camera app out there in beta stages(crappy but good) it has some errors and what not..
in order to make a web cam app you dont have to have a video camera app installed on the g1, video capturing image is already enabled on the phone, just someone has to make an app for it. to make a webcam app you would have to make your own video capturing system, or use an existing one if you code it right, some where some how some one will do it, just takes time :'(
Doesn't the vid cam app thats out now record video in motion jpeg?
Are you thinking you'd connect your phone to a PC and use it as a webcam? Surely we are not talking about using this on the phone, otherwise you'd have to turn the phone around every second to type, view the other persons video, etc...
That being said, the ADT Plugin For Eclipse adds Screenshot Capability to Eclipse... Might be some way to adapt that into a video feed? Although, this would then be more of a PC driver request than an Android app request...
use your windows mobile as a webcam
Its free and simple....
Download mymobiler: http://www.mymobiler.com
Download VH screen capture driver: http://www.hmelyoff.com/index.php?section=8
Start mymobiler and activate your mobile camera
Grab the part of the screen you want with VH screen capture
Now you have a webcam stream which you can use in any program like skype, msn etc..
Look at this video as example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wveANUBUIJM
Instead of using the microsoft remote tool use mymobiler. It is much faster.
PS: You need active sync to communicate with mymobiler

This would be the purpose I would want to use it for. Granted webcams are cheap these days so i'm not sure it is really all that practical.
Probably not but might be cool nonetheless.
The idea

I am not high or abusing your eyes. Maybe you can read between the lines and use my example as you wish.
Or is there maybe no camera option on a Android phone ?? I don't know anything about googles attempt to make something for a pda/phone.
Or is there no software available to remote control the phone. Or is it the lack of applications for Android ??? Ok you mentioned WINE...It seems you are waiting for windows emulation on Android because there is actualy more software available for Windows Mobile ???
Anyway if your are able to display your camera on a Windows screen you can capture it with the VH screencapture and use the stream for skype etc...

You people need to upgrade to one of the Builds of 1.5, so you can use Camcorder (the google cam recorder).
