Hey everyone! I'm relatively new here and just thought i might start up a thread in which we can all post our software configurations on our Phones (Kaiser/TyTnII/Tilt/etc.). I'd really like to know what applications you all use and which ones you would recommend. Well I'll be the first to go .
FTouchFlo 1.4.1 (I really like this nifty little thing, gives you the ability to call up your Cube by a swipe of the finger)
SCLPC++ 0.051 (This is great for when you only have one hand free and need to quickly call someone or run an app, I use SCLPC++ Configurator along with it)
VTap Video (Great free Mobile video streaming program)
Microsoft LiveSearch (Excellent to find out..anything lol)
GoogleMaps Mobile (Great if you want a free gps navigator, has worked real good for me so far along with LiveSearch)
JBed3D (How many of you can resist a little 3d gaming on the go?)
PHM RegEdit (Nifty little free registry editor)
TCPMP + FlashVideoBundle (Great if you want to stream video or audio from websites, works great with YTPocket.com)
Bejeweled 2, Madden NFL, Tradewinds 2 (Some great games to play on the go imho)
MobiTV (Nice program for watching TV on your mobile)
Now to ask for a few recommendations, I need a good Large Digital Clock for my Today screen and an advanced task manager. Besides those i really would like to know any and all software everyone uses on their phones .
Everything I have listed in my signature is what I can't live without.
Pocket Controller Pro sounds Dirty.
Oh Oh do we get name tags and special fun markers? I call dibs on reb and blue first. Oh and I think it would be super sweet if we were all wearing matching shirts.
I couldn't like without Google Maps (yeah I download my maps, I'm not a cheap @#[email protected]#d) and TCPMP for my youtube/eskimotube lovin. Oh and lets not forget SiriusWM5 .. Gotta hear that Howard Stern.
BaBaBooie BaBaBooie
This is a good free digital clock for your home screen. Uses a pittance of memory as well.
Link
Oh man with sirius wm5 thing makes my days fly by at work.
I dont have all the revision numbers infront of me.
Dopewars, pocket irc, googlemaps, sirius, morphware emulator (millipede 2fingafun), sPd, ifonz, ereader, tcpmp, yahoo go 2.0, illum listpro, spybot.
Hey - probably like many the HTC Diamond is my first windows mobile phone.
So do all you seasoned users have any must-have programs that you would like to elaborate on?
So far i found that a proper video player was a must, Tcpmp did it for me, simple interface, nice features, and able to playback alot of different formats!
Atm im on the lookout for a good music player, that has album/cover support, but since i hope this is for the greater good - any program you can't live without or simply like - tell us the name, function and why its so good - so we all can get the most out of our shiny new gadgets!
There are album/cover support in both media players on the device.
Advanced Config appears to be a must-have for tweaking your device. Also, any registry editor is useful in order to make additional tweaks. Besides that, a custom ROM appears to be necessary to be able to really enjoy your device, because darn, those guys at HTC can do a lot except for making good ROMs. I personally prefer the TLR Rom version 2 over the others by a lót - you'll need to install Hard-SPL and the TLR Rom and that will wipe your device. Better to back up whatever you have by Active Syncing it with Outlook first.
gsen is a must have to auto rotate more applications.
wisbar advance 3 is a must have app !! a lovely task manager that skins the complete interface
a very good PIM program is SBSH pocket breeze also skinnable(cannot use if ur on touchflo 3d)
SPB wallet for all the password and cards (i use this quite frequently)
Google maps for maps
Im not into music on the PDA but apparantly pocket music player is the best there is
and core player for movies
Lexigoo dictionary(duh)
Pocket screen snap to take snapshot of the pda screen
astraware westward astraware bubble bobble(fun ) and orions are the best games so far iv used on my pda
i use spb finance for financial accounts
other softwares people use are sbsh phoneweaver(profile manager)
tomtom7
is the only app u need
is it comeing to android ? i think i read somewhere is was like 2 weeks ago cant remember exactly where is this true?
and is there any tv sreaming apps for android?
Search Marketplace for "Beebplayer"
Works well over WiFi - No download and its not offical.
Has anyone got this working on 3G in the UK? Or anywhere for that matter?
I keep getting "Cannot play this video" which apparently means the carrier does not support iPlayer (?)
Does this mean that T-Mobile UK block the iplayer ports? Could we get this to work with an ssh tunnel or something?
It doesnt seem to be in the market anymore????
Anyone have the apk?
Cheers

It is still in the market, just a bit hard to find. You need to search for 'beebplayer'
Attached the apk (zipped) anyway.
Cheers for the zip!!!
Thats totally weird I did of course carefully search for beebplayer and I never got a hit?!
Anyway I'll try the apk, thanks.
for any who can't get it to work, it needs 1.5 firmware.
This is an impressive implementation, and the only choice to hand, however as the owner of both an iPhone 3g and a white G1 i have to say the the comparison between the two shows up just how much better the iPhone h.264 streams are to the mobile streams used via the mobile iPlayer portals.
It's a shame these streams can't be utilised by the developer, but I imagine the G1 just doesn't have good enough graphics acceleration to cope with it

Getting the iPhone streams on there was my first choice - in fact all the code to resolve the streams is in beebPlayer but unused. The problem is that the G1 can't play the iPhone streams.

Actually, the G1 is more than powerful enough. The problem is that the iPhone streams are in a .MOV container that the G1 video player can't decode. It's annoying - it's SO close to being MP4 which would be perfect, but of course Apple had to ruin the party!
Does that mean if the streams weren't in a .mov container we'd be able to use the direct iPhone iplayer page using the Steel browser and the iPhone user agent spoof option?
That would be pretty cool.
Impressed as I am with this app the mobile streams are just too poor for me.
Hi DaveJ!
Is there any chance you could put server/port options in beebplayer (or release source code) so that I can play around with getting it to work through a proxy? I'd love to be able to use this app over 3G...
Thanks for making a great app! (and great maps )

Nearly... the next issue there would be to deal with the media player spoofing, as iPlayer checks the HTTP request and expects it to be exactly the same request and behaviour as the QuickTime player on the iPhone, and is actually the trickiest bit to copy.
In Python, this was fairly easy to forge. On Android's Java however, it likes to make forging this very difficult and is what gave me most of my problems when I last tried it.

This is theoretically possible, but is actually pretty similar to the iPhone media player problem - it would need a custom video player app, rather than the one built-in to Android that beebPlayer currently uses (beebPlayer never touches the video streams itself.)
I'm already toying with the idea of a custom video player which would deal more pleasantly with errors (particularly "Video cannot be played" could use a better description!) but it's not my priority right now unfortunately.
Have you seen the Windows Mobile implementation of iPlayer done by a guy here at XDA-Devs? (It's called myPlayer)
That can use VLC on a desktop PC to re-encode the BBC streams to more suitable sizes for mobile devices, this also gives the option of viewing live tv channels (which the BBC now broadcast online) as the mobile app uses telnet to command VLC to open the BBC stream, convert it on the fly.. then streams it to the phone.
Would be great to have something like that on android, and may help with the quality issue of using mobile streams?
Any chance we can make use of get_iplayer?
i like this app. im only really able to run it over 3g when i use adrenalin
since running JACs hero roms beebplayer is working for me on 3g as well as wifi with t-mobile UK.
I don't know if this is a change in T-mobile's blocks on streaming or because of the hero rom. but shhhhhhh keep it quiet, I don't want TMob to switch it off again...
MyPlayer
Any chance you could get together with the developer of Myplayer for Windows Mobile? I really like Beebplayer, works a treat on my Hero ... but I'd really really like to be able to listen to Radio 5, which Myplayer lets you.
Cheers
what a great (not previously found) app.... thank you.
Been watching the wifi stream over 3G without a problem couldnt ask for anything more.

great app,
this app is great!, couldnt find it with a search on the market place, if you have trouble, view all applications in the marketplace and keep scrolling till you see it, i couldnt find it with a search for some reason,
this app works like a charm over wifi, really fast and great quality,
i have a g1 and on the network "three". I have no problems with using beebplayer over 3g, the app also tells you the download size just in case your on a limited data plan.
this is a must have application, just wish thier was on for demand 5, and channel 4od.
Ok, just thought I'd post to see what everyone does with there Xperia X1 so that others can see what the phone can be used for and what not.
Currently I just use the phone for the phone, text, e-mail (with T-Zones) and use the Garmin a lot. Rather than that I'm still exploring on what to add to the phone.
I flashed a couple roms, from TF3D to the R2A and found that I am more satisfied with the R1A using the performance tweaks. I do like the TF3D but I like being able to pop the keyboard and type for anything that needs typing
I'm trying to incoprorate the phone as a music player and listen to music more so I'm going to be using the media panel, unless someone else can suggest something better. I want to be able to see all my songs and create a playlist rather easily and shuffle the songs.
Another thing I would like to have just incase is the WiFi tether for my laptop. I know t-zones is rather slow but having some internet would be better than nothing.
I also thought about blogging and taking random pictures to kind of keep up with whats going on in my life and that sort of thing. The facebook panel is ok, but I'd rather have like flickr or something to upload the pictures and blog about it.
So what do YOU guys do with your Xperia? And what do YOU guys recommend?
I use mine for email, web, gps, the odd photograph, writing articles (usually with a photo) and as an Mp3 player..
Never usually bother with txt and obviously make the odd phone call.
Then there's all the tweaking, tinkering and hacking..
as to music I tend to use the one in TF3d, which works fine for my needs, (but then I just stick it on shuffle).
Without tf3d I use either
Conduits pocket player (which is a really good music player (commercial) and uses media player skins see http://mylostblog.altervista.org/ for some of those)
freeware there's mortplayer, and s2p, but s2p doesn't do playlists just yet, possibly next version by the look of it.
Never got on with tcmpmpmpm/coreplayer but others love it.
- Full email with built-in messaging and marvellous ProfiMail
- Full Internet (OperaMobile 9.5, OperaMini 4.2)
- YouTube
- Photos, and sometimes video recording
- Music
- RSS Feeds
- Constant work with Office, especially Pdf and Word (currently DocsToGo but planning to get Softmaker)
- Of course extensive use of Calendar, Notes, Tasks (busy life)
- GoogleMaps
- And utilities like ExpenseDiary, Stopwatch, Dictionary, Calc and Currencies!
- Ebooks reading
- Simple Weather app by Gega (great!)
- screen capture utility to catch maps from google maps when abroad (cheap and practical!!!)
As for UI, I just love panels and have two of them (one clean, one with most of my apps I use and all I need)
I also use MediaPanel which supports creating playlists. I don't really watch movies on X1 since it basically kills battery. Anyway there's a sticky containing good converter for videos for X1.
Hope it helps, apparently I don't do too little with my Xperia.....
First of all, don't blog. Too many people doing it, too few people caring, you'd be wasting your time.
Beside that, my uses include (in order of importance)
- Tinkering
- Calling
- Sms messages
- Musicplayer
- Video's
- Email
- Games (SNES)
- Random stuff
Apart from the obvious; making calls.
-I surf the net alot with Opera.
-Use mt 8GB card to listen to music synced via PC(always shuffle)
-Watch Youtube sometimes
-GPS with TomTom is wow( Where would we be without GPS)
-Some games - actually bejewelled
-E-mail - a lot of e-mail. Windows Live rocks
-Texting too.
I've been using Windows Mobile aka Pocket PC Phone Edition when it first came out in 2000. Same what you will about Microsoft but they've got the best Mobile software in existence. Believe it or not, I'e never owned a regular cell phone. Been using WinMo since MS launched the XDA with T-Mob in 2000.
-turn it back on when it turns off
-restart it when coreplayer crashes
well i gotta admit i love mobile gaming. This phone really dissapointed me, a lot. Gaming sucks so hard. Hopefully with all these WVGA phone coming, there will be more support for gaming. Even emulators suck, compared to those on Symbian.

5- All my email accounts
6- HSDPA Internet Router for office/home/meetings/fiends

I currently use:
Calls/Messages/Emails - Daily
Calendar (sync with my work server daily)
As a modem (1 month via usb - then found out about wifi programs) - great when on holidays
Internet - daily via wifi and 3G (Opera and IE - Opera won't recognise some certificates for some reason)
Weather (SPB Weather 2) daily
Currency (SPB Traveller) - occasionally (once a fortnight)
Word and Excel - every few days
Powerpoint and PDF on and off (I may have heavy usage for a few days then not use it for a month)
SPB Wireless Monitor (Daily - my telco can't seem to give me accurate usage estimates)
Pocket.RAR - lots at the moment... probably not so much in the future (I can't install winrar on my work pc)
Run.GPS UV Trainer - I would like to say daily... but I haven't been that good at the moment
TomTom7 - when I drive my car that doesn't have a gps built in (mainly on weekends - although I do prefer the gps on my x1 to the one in my other car).
Games - THPS2 daily, SPB Air Islands - once every few days, sudoku... when I am really really bored.
Radio and MP3 - daily
Movies - a few times a week (currently using coreplayer).
Almost Forgot... soft reset - multiple times daily at the moment...
wow. Thanks for all the comments guys.
1) I agree with the emulators being crappy compared to Symbian and stuff. I really wish we had a better one cause I love the idea for landscape and having a keyboard.
2) I like the weather panel. Reminds me of the TF3D weather and the iPhones weather. Very nice.

Hi All,
Shouldn't the question be, what don't you do with your Xperia. I travel all across the UK, Ireland and Central Europe with my job and since having the Xperia and an 8GB SD card I leave my laptop & TomTom 910 at home now as the X1 (along with the SE car charger) does it all for me!
Cheers,

hello there, i just bought an X1 and was trying to find the best mp3 player. the ones i found on the phone were very slow. i have an 8 gb card with 1400 songs on it.
i need a player that doesn't have a delay between changing the songs and also a search function.
i found winamp for WM; i runs smoothly but i couldn't find the jump button.
any ideas ?
there are plenty...pocket player, imulator, s2p, lcg jukebox...
imo, pocket player is better choice, but it is not free
I also recommend Pocket Player by Conduits. Not free but the best player I have seen so far.
thanks man, i found pocket player, it's nice, but it's so slow . i'm having so many problems with this thingy, i can't even find the gps menu in settings
I dont consider Pocket Player slow. Its not lightning fast, ok. But slow?
Concerning gps setting: You will find them under settings\system\external gps
Another vote for Conduits Pocket Player. Not slow at all, slides and performs as expected. I had been a satisfied user for many years and had it running on all of my WM devices with no issues, and we are talking a far less spec-ed ones than Xperia. The best part for me is that it sends music over the bluetooth to a mono headset and with tweaks can be set up as a default media player for Voice Command, which means it gets controlled through bluetooth as well. Can't beat that.

With Pocket Player you can set up the interval between songs, even fading of one song into another.

I wonder if slowness is caused by your card read rates...
yeah, my card is probably slow, but this doesn't change the fact that pocket player has a not so nice search function. after you find the desired track, it replaces the playlist and you have to go back each and every time.
have you tried that winamp version for WM ? if i could find the "jump" button. it really looks like winamp and it's veeeery fast.
ps: i'm using the same micro sd on an n95 and it works like a charm, i'll try and update the x1 to 6.5; if i'm not satisfied with the results, i'll swap it for an n97.
It's a question of configuration. In advanced settings you can choose whether to generally replace the current playlist or to enqueue an opened file. What's more it is important to choose the correct method. If you want to replace the current playlist you choose open\open file but if you'd like to enqueue you have to use open\add file. It's the same in the library. When you press on an album, artist or track in the list a menu pops up and you can choose between play (replaces current playlist) or enqueue. In the library there are settings too. There you can once again choose between different ways the program interprets gestures/ actions. So all in all what you describe is a mere question of configuration and using the correct method
i've given up. i tried saving a playlist and it freezed my phone (twice). i don't care anymore.
now...this is WINDOWS mobile, right? on my p990 i had an emulator for old nintendo games (mortal kombat, street fighter etc); is there such thing?
what other games do you know? i saw a video, someone was playing tony hawk, i'm looking for something similar with good graphics and interesting gameplay, perhaps a football game, pool, bowling...
Perhaps... the problem is with your device.... I can't say I ever had any problems of any kind running Pocket Player, saving playlists, selecting songs, scrolling through lists etc, and I used it on quite a few WM devices so far. Can't even say the performance was ever affected by the ROM or specifications. It runs equally well on 200Mhz devices and 620Mhz devices, with 64Mb RAM and 256Mb. It even runs perfectly well on LG KS20 and that little bugger has many problems. I have it on my Xperia, needless to say.
FYI: I realise that you asked for a new media player, but I thought it was worth mentioning that both the X1s built-in meda players have a highly elegant quick search as you type feature.... just start typing..

if you have more than 1 song that starts with "mar" for example, it will only show you the first one
what's so elegant if it doesn't satisfy my needs? btw, where's the equalizer on these so sweet and neat "media" players? even with the players that have equalizer, the sound sucks in my car/headsets comparing to nokia.
i'm sorry to say this, i love ericsson, but i regret buying xperia.
Look it is clearly visible that you don't now how to use Pocket Player. You say: "This does not work, that is not possible". But everything you mentioned so far is possible with Pocket Player as long as you know how to use it.
Concerning your problem with playlists I cant confirm that the Xperia crashes when saving a playlist. Have you tried saving in another format?
If you don't like Pocket Player there are other solutions. Pocket Music by Pocketmind for example or Mortplayer. Both come with an equaliser but for me Pocket Player is by far the best program available.
AS for games you can get warcraft 2 and starcraft and heaps of other games.
hey, i have the best solution: throw away this crap and buy the goddamn ugly n97,
this morning i was trying to send an sms to a bunch of my friends and, surprise, i can't mark recipients, i have to select them 1 by 1. YEAH XPERIA ALL THE WAAAY
Look I found in 5 minutes by using the search function what you say is not possible.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354164
Search also for the keyword "power sms" as this is another solution. Maybe there is even more software available here at XDA. Generally everything is possible with Windows Mobile because there is software for almost any function you can imagine. So please either start using your brain or stop annoying us with your false statements. I don't care if you believe Xperia X1 is crap and N97 is better but stop claiming things that are just plain wrong only because you are to lazy to look for a solution yourself.
for me nitrogen is the best mp3 player for winmo.
so i have to install a third party software to send a lousy sms? if i wanna send a message to 1 guy, i use it's default app and if i wanna send one to many, the other one. i can't believe this. yes, i'm slothful, that's why i bought a smartphone
oh, btw, sometimes, it doesn't show the number that's callin' me so i have to restart it...
i have nothing against xperia or WM, i'm just being objective here, but imagine if i would have had to pay for all these extra applications? imagine if i didn't know my way around technology. i would want my SMAAARTPHONE to do everything by default; and by everything, i mean the basics.
you guys know better than me that many 3rd party apps are ****ed up and buggy and laggy, and trust me, i had more than 10 symbian phones, i know what i'm talking about. so don't you dare jump on me with "use your brain, false statements". maybe i do have a cheap micro sd, but why does the old n95 work so smooth with it a?
altae, i dare you to show me a video of you using pocket player. i want you to load a playlist with at least a couple of hundred songs, i want you to have there songs that have the same title such as come(ing) undone by placebo, korn and robbie williams. search for "undone", let me see how it shows you all 3 songs and after you select one, the playlist goes on just like "good ol' winamp". if you can do that and i can't, i swear i'll hit myself as hard as i can with the x1 in the head, in my nuts or wherever you want me to.
