thanks for the info. are the rates good? also will they take usd or pesos?
im guessing pesos....
Both of them work just fine in Mexico. Just be sure to check with your provider, either att o tmo and ask them to enable the international service for you as well as get the discount for international calls.
i used both of them in mexico with no problems. df and monterrey

[Q] UK/Galaxy S GT-I9000 Orange Network Phone to USA?

My husband, who at the time, lived in the UK bought a Galaxy S GT-I9000 cell phone on the Orange network. He was told the phone would work in the US but it doesn't. Is it possible to somehow flash this phone to a US network? If so, can you point me in the right direction? All help is greatly appreciated... thank you!
No, you can't change the hardware. But have you looked at different carrier frequencies? Maybe some of them match the Orange network.
I'm assuming Orange is GSM so maybe at&t or T-Mobile?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
There are a couple of ways to do this. 1. Buy a T-mo or Simple no contract for one month and buy the sims that go in it. This is easiest and about 45 bucks (29-quid)
Or there is a way to make the phone register through Tmo but if I remember correctly the surcharge on the phone for being out of country is more expensive. This way you need to use the test codes and go into the gsm settings and force it to only look at a certain band. This i have done not stellar results but i did get it to work.
Buying the short term no contract w/ sims is just WAY easier and cheaper
hope that helps...........
Thanks for the help. We are going to try getting the T-Mobile sim card. We'll let know how it works out.

Before you buy one, have one of the techs take out a sim that they are using for a demo-phone to make sure there are no problems before purchasing.
Enjoy your stay in the USA....... *** wow.... they have fish "n" chips just like us in the USA***......George Bush quote...........
will ask them to try for me, thanks again for the advice, i would have just bought it....;~}

few question about buying the incredible s

hello gaise,
I'm from malaysia, and about to go to the US to pursue my studies.
I'm thinking about getting this phone in malaysia, but what I'm really concern is whether this phone will be compatible with the US network or it would be end up sitting in a trashcan somewhere in states. Should I just bought my phone in the US???
Since I only know this 2 network operator, at&t and tmobile.what is the best carrier in the sense of their wireless coverage and data plans ?
thank you in advance

wierd place to ask this question. But the 710a is for at&t and the 710e will work on t-mobile. You can go to their websites and look up their 3g/4g coverage wherever you plan to be. If money is not a problem, I would go with AT&T.

[Q] N1 (US tmo) in Spain, Portugal, and Italy

I'm trying to figure where to get a SIM from for an upcoming trip to Madrid Spain+surrounding areas, Porto Portugal, and the island of Sardinia Italy. I see they have Vodafone in all three countries. Can I just get one prepaid from them and have it for the entire 3 weeks?
I generally find all the answers to my questions here with out posting, but this is super confusing to me for some reason. I'm not even confident that I'm choosing the right providers based on the bands I have in the Tmobile N1 I have.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I would certainly appreciate it. Once I know who to shop with I can probably figure out a good plan for myself, but just in case, I'm looking for about 3 weeks worth of 3g data (hopefully) and handful of minutes that I can use for those three countries. Most of Sardinia is off the beaten path, so I dont expect much there.
Thanks everyone. :good:

Firstly, T-Mobile USA uses the same frequencies as European carriers, so that's something you don't need to worry about.
Secondly, although they all have Vodafone, you can't use all 3 of them on the same prepaid sim for local prices. If you buy a Portuguese Vodafone prepaid sim, you will have to pay (higher) roaming prices in Spain and Italy. Don't know the exact prices though, but I'm sure you can find something on the world wide web about it. I'm also sure there are cheaper budget carriers available in al 3 countries, so I wouldn't go for Vodafone.
Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the info about Vodafone. If it seems to convenient it probably is lol.
For Spain I found Yoigo. 1.29euro a day for data. Sold! But I'm reading on another forum that it is UMTS only? Am I still good to go for that? Does that just mean it's only going to work in the city?

[Q] newbie question, AT&T or TMO Moto X outside US

Hey all,
Hope this is in the right place. Saw a few similar questions, but nothing exactly like what I was looking for.
I currently have a VZW Galaxy Nexus, rooted, running Shiny ROM with Xposed and GravityBox. Thinking about dumping VZW and going to a Moto X on AT&T or TMO, both prepaid. Question is, which carrier's phone would I be able to use outside the US? I'll be going to Europe this summer and would like to purchase a local SIM in Europe and use it there, instead of paying roaming fees on AT&T or TMO.
According to Wikipedia (can't post link) and what I've read on here, the TMO version is SIM unlocked. So this means it will work on all GSM carriers, right? In the US, that would be AT&T (if TMO doesn't have good signal where I live), and when I travel, that means I can use a local SIM, correct?
Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated!

Yep, that's correct. T-mo is SIM unlocked. I use mine with AT&T actually too. It should work abroad with no trouble other than tracking down a local nano sim or cutting one down.
If however you want to use LTE abroad I don't think the bands in the T-Mobile version match those used in Europe. HSPA+ should work fine though.
From my experience when traveling abroad a prepaid SIM w/ LTE was way more expensive than something I wanted just for being able to gchat home and look up directions on gmaps so it was a moot point.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! I figured LTE wouldn't work in Europe, I was fine with settling for HSPA+ or 3G.
Found a thread here explaining the differences between AT&T, TMO, and Dev Edition. From what I can see, the TMO edition is more flexible than the AT&T edition. Only difference compared to Dev Edition is that unlocking the bootloader on TMO voids your warranty.

LTE works in Europe although is not yet as widely spreaded as in the USA. But you'll be fine with 3G which is fast enough and most countries are well covered with that network. More important issue is roaming if you are planning to visit different countries. You must switch between different operators and even using service from the same operator in different states ( e.g. T-mobile) imply roaming charges. In my opinion the best solution is using local sim with best data plan and voip for calling in every country. If you don't want to switch sim cards, you may find the best roaming solution with prepaid Vodafone Italy. You can buy its clone online (http://www.motorhomewifi.com/product/europa-sim-roaming-data-sim-card/) and refill it in any Vodafone shop around Europe.
