Map Hard Button too - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey everyone,
Cudnt see anything about this, though I am stupid, so may have missed it.
I would like to map one of my Hardbuttons, probably #6 on my vario to, on press and hold, close a program.
All i can do at the moment is minimise a program, but Id like to be able to close them and stop it form running easily, without having to use my fat fingers to push the lil x in the corner.
Anything going for such a task?

I believe AEButtonPlus should do the trick. It's not free but great software worth paying for.

Today Screen Soft Button / Keys

I am new to WM6, I am a long time Treo user (boo hiiisss, I know).
After two days with the Tilt, I am really learning alot. One being how much my wife hates the Tilt
Anyway, I want to change the application that launches from one (or both) of the soft keys on the Today (home) screen.
I know HOW to change it but I am unsure how to link to the program that I want to launch. The application that I want to launch is on my memory card. I am not sure if there is a shortcut on the phone though..... I am using Flex Mail 2007
Here is the regedit to use, but how to I specify where the app is?
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Home\Keys\112]
@="<SK label>"
"Open"= <handling app>
I am not sure what to add as the handling app... Currently, it has /windows/email.exe
But I want ??? /card/program files/Flex Mail
Thanks in advance!
Never mind I figured out how to do it.
Thanks anyway!
there is an app that will do all of that for you. Search for SoftKey Changer amazed at what you will find!
I will have a look at that app... thanks!
After seeing just how easy it is to do, I hope this app does more than just change soft keys. I am not even 48 hours into Windows and already figured out allot of the edits that can be done by hand.

I tried it.... and it is very easy to use.
Thanks

Comm Mgr Customizing

Is there a way to customize comm manager (change from 6 button to 10 or change the buttons--replace data connection with 3G) other than using Advanced Config. I can do it through Advanced Config but wondered whether there was another way to do it on the fly that I am missing. Thx.
Did you try looking into the stickied thread at the top of the forum that has all the cab files??
There's a 10 buttom comm manager right there.
I know. I am looking for a utility that switches from the 10 to the 6 or changes the order of the buttons on the 10 or 6. Maybe I am not explaining it well enough ....
Why would you want to change between the two? The 10 button has it all, including disabling data connection and 3G?
Aesthetics. The 6 button on/off looks good with certain themes/roms. Not a huge issue. I guess not a big demand for it.
If you use Kaiser Tweak you can customize the Comm Manager (doesn't change from 6 to 10 buttons or vice versa) but you can re-order the buttons. Give it a shot.
Got it. Thanks.
... Is there anyone that found a way to make the 10-buttons CommManager "dpad-friendly" ?
It's so annoying : you can navigate the homepage of your PDA with the dpad, and then start the commmanager... and there : you're stuck !
Have to touch the screen to choose any of the items (wireless, data, bluetooth...)

Yeah, because it's SUCH a pain to point your finger at the screen and push.
Wow, it's amazing the things people complain about.
If I took your logic, I would ask why Kaiser has a hard-keyboard ? It's so easy for ppl to press the screen
...
I have the aluminum case, and the screen is behind a hardglass !
So you can give a try if you want... but I'd bet your won't even bend the glass.
You didn't say you had a hard case, did ya? I don't have one and I don't know anyone that does. Everyone I know uses the stylus on the screen, just like it's supposed to be used.
Just use AEB to assign a hardkey, I use the windoz logo key, double press toggles BT power, tripple toggles WiFi. You get the picture.
I'll give a try to AEB (my Win button is already reassigned, same for the camera button which triggers the CommMgr...)

Like I said, why would people buy a phone with real keyboard, as there's already onscreen keyboard... That's exactly same scenario.
My question was not about "how could I reeducate myself", but how to turn this smartphone into something even smarter...
Even the ComMgr on the HTC Tornado can be manager from the joystick... (running WM5)
So it's a shame if HTC did remove this so simple thing as focus-ordered buttons...

You bought it, didn't you? Why did you buy it? I'll tell you why - it's one thing to have an on screen keyboard, it's a totally different thing to have a real, tactile keyboard with real keys to give your fingers feedback. You're comparing apples and oranges. Your logic doesn't fly with me, sorry. You can't touch-type with an on screen keyboard (i.e. type by feel).

WOW. You have been nothing but a condescending prick in every one of you posts on this thread. Sorry you don't like the new kids on your block asking questions. If you don't want to contribute anything in an amicable manner, please, leave us to cry in the corner.

LOL. Thanks for the laugh. You made my night.
The OP had a question, and I answered it. If it's not what he was looking for, then he should learn how to phrase his questions in a better way.
I don't apologize for my wording. I am short and to the point.
Lastly, some people will complain about anything and everything. You can't help that or change that.
Ok fine, so you're apparently upset about people asking for tips & tricks... Then I assume your Kaiser was just perfect as-is right ?
(...so I guess you kept the stock ROM untouched, and didnt apply any of the great XDA-dev patches/fixes then)
Anyone with a more constructive feedback, like maybe importing the CommMgr of a different HTC pdaphone ?
I have the Tilt with the stock AT&T ROM. It does everything I need it to. I have, however, applied many of the tweaks and fixes available here. I ask very few questions and do LOTS of reading. I read almost every thread in this forum looking for little tweaks to make my phone even better than it already is.
I have no problems with people asking questions. That is what this forum is for. What bugs me is people who post the same question over and over without reading ANYTHING. (not that I was referring to you)
I was trying to be a little sarcastic with my first reply, but I guess you took it the wrong way.
So then, if you said I was posting without reading anything ...
Do you mean you were able to find a way ? (finaly we'll get something constructive)
I am not really new to XDA-dev, so I know how searching the place works...
Unfortunately, neither the 6buttons nor the 10buttons CommMgr is able to do (apparently) what I'm trying to get.
Hence the post...
Well I highly doubt that you will be able to switch between the 6 and 10 buttom comm mgr. They are both cab installs and require a SR after install.
What about RemE's suggestion? Did you try that? You could also remap the PTT button.
P.S. I wasn't referring to you when I said people don't read before posting.

Idea for a Useful App - Anything like it?

I was curious if there is an app that will, upon pressing and holding a key such as the PTT key or end key, would subsequently end all running tasks, lock the phone, and put it in standby.
If there is such an app would anyone care to enlighten me? If not, I think there may be a market for such a thing. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before and I'm sure I'll do it again soon.
I tried searching xda with google and the xda search and didn't get lucky. Sorry otherwise.
I must confess that would be very useful. Not being a programmer i don't know if its possible or not. Any ideas anyone??
I have not come across such a function and all I have been looking for is a utility that will allow another button to put my tilt into standby (I find it a little difficult feeling the power button w/o looking)!
perhaps we should ask WAKU (creator of wktask) to see if he can import that excellent software into buttons. He has all functions available thru wktask such as closeall/suspend and he can add lock easily. he hasn't updated as frequently anymore perhaps more people should donate
Ill email him, to see if hes willing to do it!
I, too, have asked about this type of functionality. I'd love to hit the power button or the PTT button and have it close all apps (except for those in an exception list) and put the phone in standby.
The last time I asked about this the best reply was someone suggesting that perhaps a mortscript could be written to do it. I never looked further into it.
its possible, but i have never maked programs for ppc =/.. if someone has an idea, or if it is like c/c++ i can..
I use the excellent and free AE Button Plus.
I have a triple press of the ok button place the phone in standby.
(I have a double press of the ok button launch S2U2 to lock the phone and turn off the display but leave the GPS running)
pjam
Its definitely possible. All the individual components have already been done: You can remap the PTT button, , some 3rd party task managers have "end all" features, and software like S2U2 can easily lock your phone. Perhaps you could rig some sort of script to run them all, or find someone to program up a less jerry-rigged version. I don't think that the app would be all that popular, maybe the script is the best way to go.
I am fairly certain I can do this with an action sender & using one of the keyboard driver shortcuts (Short_Power.lnk). I will have a go at compiling a small actions send proggie & seeing if I can compile the kill arguments into it. I can definitely get you into suspend or stand-by, it's the killing of everything else that getting me. So far I can't get both functions into the same key press.

Center button on Diamond...

Hi, I'm still relatively new to using the diamond... (approx 2 weeks...)
This is my first WinMo phone also so I'm just trying to get use to it. My question is, does anyone find very little use for the Center Button on the Diamond? Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that around the button is a senstivity for autofocus and zooming, etc. But other then taking a shot with the phone I rarely use that middle button. Am I doing something wrong or if possible can someone tell me what else the center button can do because I'm still finding doing things on the Diamond a little bit slower... Thanks.

If you press and hold on a file for example you get the basic editing options such as paste, copy, delete, rename etc...
There are many other uses but I have to get back to work!! Im sure more members are gonna guide you.
Luck!
I mostly use it for zooming in and out while browsing.
it can be enabled to do scrolling for almost any app - search the forum and you will surely find it...
The centre button is essentially an 'action' button. If you notice that immediately north/south/east/west of it (on the ridged circle) there are softkeys you can press down to navigate and highlight whatever is on screen, depending on the context of what you are using (TF3D, file explorer, browser, etc) much like using the arrow keys on a standard pc. The centre button can then be used to 'select' the highlighted item much like tapping the stylus on it (or hold the button down like holding the stylus to get the context menu etc etc) this makes it easy to select things in a narrow list if you dont want to use the stylus and have fat fingers
Hope this goes some way to hint at what you can use it for!
It's good to get used to some hardware keys, this center button and navigating with 'arrow keys'.
It gets you more speedy and productive, using touchscreen is not ALWAYS the best, it's quite inaccurate (since I don't push always exact at the right spot). So on those moment it's very helpful to become familiar with the HW keys
edit: Oups, i'm not on the good topic ! Sorry
If a moderator can remove this post ...
actually i use the hardware buttons a lot, just cause i like the way they feel when i press them. i know, sounds weird, but hey, they do a hell of a job for me.

PTT button is gone?

I just hopped onto an Energy ROM after I had tried one other.... I am pleased.
I am using his 28.may2010.WWE for the Rhodium and now my PTT button, which I was going to remap to my Resco task manager.. or LOUDTALKS App PTT function... and I see the the button is basically missing in the ROM. As if I didn't even have a physical one. But I do... I want to remap it. What is the deal?
Now if this was done intentionally - Well that is just STUPID period. A button you can map is a button you can map. I did this on both the STOCK ROM and clean Stock ROM that someone else offered.
I swap to this Energy Rom and the buttons in Settings doesn't even show the existence of the button to remap.
Did I miss something? What gives? Even though I just spent an hour searching here...I'm not searching any more and reading tons of posts for something that if done intentionally.... Is not my fault.
The button doesn't work/exist... The answer should come to me from the person who originated the problem. That is just fair. I'm not being a jerk But seriously... I am not looking high and low for an answer to fix something I did not break. If that was the case.... I wouldn't be whining I'd still be looking.
Sorry so abrupt. DELL screwed me on a PC case delivery and they want me to wait another month (after 1 month already) with a pile of hardware here.... SORRY!
I'm a bit put off atm... having found LOUDTALKS app and cannot bind the damn button to it.. Button is KAPUT?!?!
I'd suggest posting on this in the EnergyROM thread
Suggestion noted.... But I actually thought that is where I was.... Heh! I guess I entered a different thread from my Search results..... Feel free to move this.... Mods unless you think I should repost.
only the tilt2 has the ptt button just search for a key mapper and it will work on any rom "keyboard config" for rhodium.

You really should have posted on the NRG ROM forum, but what you need to do is go to Tools / Carrier Provisioning, select the AT&T switch, and hit APPLY. I think that will help.
