How to save space with TomTom Nav6 - Off-topic

Hi all, been lurking here for a couple of years now & found the site invaluable as a source of information about my device's. I have an xda11i & 2 xda orbits. I have a tip for all who use TomTom Nav6 on their device's.
I had a problem where if I entered a postcode into TomTom it would only allow me to use the first 3 digits & then I would have to sort out the rest of the address manually, pointless!
then I read that I needed to move the folder called Zip to the /programs/navigator folder on the device. this though takes up nearly 10mb of space!
here's a way to save 10mb & still have postcode's working.
instead of moving the folder called Zip paste a shortcut to it in the /programs/navigator folder instead.

Forgot to mention you need to rename the shortcut from "shortcut to zip" to "Zip"

Just move all the TomTom stuff from you device to the equivelent folders on your storage card. Redirect the TomTom shorcut in \Windows\Start Menu and you will free up even more space.

Wow, an even better way to save space. Thanks for the heads up
thanks Wizzard

if you have bluetooth folders enabled, tomtom can't see the "ZIP" postcode folder on the storage card or the VOICES folder on the storage card. You can either copy the "ZIP" folder into the Navigator folder in main memory or you can disable Bluetooth Folders (start, settings connections, bluetooth, ftp)

Anyone know if there is a way to "tidy up" you storage card by placing all TomTom Files into one File (called "TomTom" for instance? If so what exactly do I need to redirect?

Opening office files from internal memory

i created a folder inside "My documents" in the "Internal Storage" of my diamond to store take advantage of the whole 4 Gb. Inside this folder i created some other folders to classify my documents (personal, work, etc)
When i use mobile office file explorer to open a document, even though i browse trought all folders, i don't see any of the folders i created. How can i open the files from here.
Right now what i do is use the file explorer, go to the location and click the file.
Anyone knows how to see the files from mobile office file explorer?
Thanks in advance
By default, Pocket Word read only 1 subfolder depth... that's why it reads only in \Internal Storage\My Documents, but not in your created subfolders.
As I can remember (and if it's always like this with WM6.1), you can force Pocket Word (and others Office apps) to read only in \Internal Storage\My Documents (and not in whole \Internal Storage), so that it'll be able to read your subfolders in \Internal Storage\My Documents... you just need a little file in the root of Internal Storage.
But... there's a "but"... I don't remember which file it is (and/or where/how you can find/create it)... sorry... I give you only the first step... hope someone will give you the 2nd one ^_^
ahahahaaaaaa... I finally find : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319516/en-us/
This little file (just an empty one) is called Ignore_my_docs... but it won't help you... you need a "Use_my_docs" file ^_^.
Now i know the reason why, anyway, i think i will stick to file explorer to look for my documents.
Thanks!

tomtom 7 maps

I'm a bit confused because the maps i have aren't working on my diamond? or actually i'm not really sure where i should put those maps. What i've done is put the ttn7 into my program files and i just put the maps into the folder.
Also is there a program on the diamond that measures your speed and direction you're going like the gps viewer on the glofiish?
the program files can be placed anywhere, the map should be placed on the root of the internal storage.
Also you can set tomtom to measure speed and direction.
hmm i can put them anywhere.. so let me just make sure but the files i need to put are .dat, .meta, and .pna with the brands in the same folder or is this wrong?

The map itself must be in the root, or can it be in a folder, which is in the root?
I have the maps in the folder "My Documents" on the internal storage and that works fine.

All files should be in one folder and that folder goes in the root of your storage card.

Are you sure that you don't have two folders called voice i.e. voice/voice?
i've just one folder called "voices"..in it i've the files of chiara's voice that i've downloaded from the tomtom official site
The folder has to be in the root of the internal storage and called "Voices"
Then in tomtom you need to select the voice.
I had the same problem with some funny voices. You have to go to the menue and choose the option to show you every language.
You have to create a 'voices' folder under \Program Files\Navigator and place the .CHK and .VIF files in the voices folder and then open up tomtom and choose the voices.
Don't forget the .ini file!!
You put the voices files (.vif, .chk, .bmp) in your "voices" folder AND YOU MUST HAVE the collected.ini file in the same folder.....place the voices folder in the the root of Internal Storage. Appears that the older voice files for TT5 and TT6 needs the .ini file to work (for me anyway!!)
A little question: can be activated the TTS with tomtom? (i've read it's only for PNA devices?)
...i think there is a trick, because currently i am using the ttom tts voices fixed for iGO8 ... they can be used for another app and not for tomtom on the pda?
Damn, collected.ini is the one file I'm missing.. any idea where I can get that?

I don't have this file...can I create it with notepad?
i got it and i hope my way is available to you.
firsr, there are three files of each voice with the name format of data**(** is several numbers)
second, these three files are saved in the folder 'voices', which is in the fold of tomtom file saved in.(for me, that is \internal storage\program files\navigator\)
last, when you run tomtom and change the voice, there will be a prompt indicating whether you will choose the same language, choose NO even you plan to select an english voice.
i am using tomtom 7.450.9028 in diamond.
i created the voices folder and didn't need the collected.ini file for the voices to work, cheers.
TomTom Voices Working
It took me two days to work it out myself. I had no problems with the files themselves, my issue was that I had installed tt7 on my SD card. I re-installed it to the Device and was able to then upload the new voices easily enough.
One tip: I used the "Explore" option in MS ActiveSync to navigate to the correct folder and dragged the voices I wanted over to the folder ("voices") located in the /Program Files/Navigator folder on the device. Full Path: /Program Files/Navigator/voices
Be sure to check "No" when it asks if you want to use the current language, or you may not see your new voices.
The *.vif files are plain text and are interpreted by tt7 to discover the voice's sex and languge. There are three numbers below the data*.chk entry which seem to indicate this and I'm not sure what else. Most of the newer tt7 files I downloaded had three numbers, anyway. The third-party (simulated) celebrity voicesI downloaded did not have these and tt7 seemed to think they were "Chinese" or "Special". It's not really worth it for me to fiddle around with various values in the *.vif files, but someone may wish to tweak them...
Limit?
Is there a limit of the amount of voices stored in the voices folder.
My Navigator only picks up before DATA121. Beyond that it doesnt appear.
I have my TomTom installed on my storage card and voices on my storage card.

Is there such an app? Direct all to storage card?

Hello all,
It was suggested to me to post this question here.
I am looking for a way to basically poing any and all possible to the storage card. I think I remember a couple years back finding one for my Hermes here at XDA-Developers.com but now I can't seem to locate it??
I would like it if someone knows how to or an app to do this if they could let me know. I think I remember the other one being a .cab that directed everything to the card.
Does this make sense to anyone?
PS: I know on the camera app you can select the device or the card.
Make it little clear
do you want to receive files(say songs etc) through bluetooth and get them stored in memory card and want to place inbox in memory card ?
chand
the moon
Well what I was thinking was I would like any and all files to be stored on the card.
For instance, when active-sync creates a short cut on the desktop (pc) for files to be sync'd there is a list of folders... If I click "Explore" in AS it opens to files on my device. Now if I follow it correctly, all the files in the (pc) desktop shortcut leads to the folders in the "My Docs" on the device.
The last sentenance is what I would like to change, I would like for any and all files besides apps or system files to be stored on the card.
Meaning, no "My docs" on the device memory, just the card.
Is there a way in the registry or something else to change the path for said folders to be redirected to the memory card?
I don't think there is an app that will do this
SKTools has a "move file" option that says it will move the file and update information in the registry, but its not clear if this applies to folders
Now, you could try using a registry editor with find-replace to find all instances of "/My Documents" and change it to something like "/Storage Card/My Documents", then soft reset and see if that works -- I can't seem to find a registry editor that does find and replace like this -- anyone?
Advanced Config Tool (attached) will allow you to specify default locations for directories.

Need the Tomtom guru... how do I import POI's

Hello all,
I am using Tomtom 7
I have downloaded .gpx files
I have a converter to convert the .gpx files to Tomtoms .ov2 files
So far is this right?
Now then, what I want to do is copy the files over to my device and be able to use them.
Is this possible?
i think you're doing this the long long long way. Download Tom Tom Home for your computer, sync your computer and the phone. It should sinc POI. then just save and transfer. Hope it makes sense and hope its what you were asking for.
Yes, it is possible. I think the only thing you have to do is copy the .ov2 files into your map directory. Then it should automatically detect the POI file
Yes, just convert your data into ov2 files and put them in the root folder of your map, such as \Storage Card\USA and Canada\
You'll want POI images too I imagine, what I'd do is look on the net to find the appropriate size bitmap and you copy it into the same directory with the same name. IE:
My Speedcams.ov2
My Speedcams.bmp
I use TomTom to navigation to geocaches if I don't know the way to get there (although gotta be careful, sometimes it will lead you to the wrong place) and I have an automated process which creates ov2's from geocaching Pocket Queries. All I do is put my SD card into my computer whenever I want to update and run a script, done.
Awesome... thank you for the responses.
