Are you sure that you don't have two folders called voice i.e. voice/voice?
i've just one folder called "voices"..in it i've the files of chiara's voice that i've downloaded from the tomtom official site
The folder has to be in the root of the internal storage and called "Voices"
Then in tomtom you need to select the voice.
I had the same problem with some funny voices. You have to go to the menue and choose the option to show you every language.
You have to create a 'voices' folder under \Program Files\Navigator and place the .CHK and .VIF files in the voices folder and then open up tomtom and choose the voices.
Don't forget the .ini file!!
You put the voices files (.vif, .chk, .bmp) in your "voices" folder AND YOU MUST HAVE the collected.ini file in the same folder.....place the voices folder in the the root of Internal Storage. Appears that the older voice files for TT5 and TT6 needs the .ini file to work (for me anyway!!)
A little question: can be activated the TTS with tomtom? (i've read it's only for PNA devices?)
...i think there is a trick, because currently i am using the ttom tts voices fixed for iGO8 ... they can be used for another app and not for tomtom on the pda?
Damn, collected.ini is the one file I'm missing.. any idea where I can get that?

I don't have this file...can I create it with notepad?
i got it and i hope my way is available to you.
firsr, there are three files of each voice with the name format of data**(** is several numbers)
second, these three files are saved in the folder 'voices', which is in the fold of tomtom file saved in.(for me, that is \internal storage\program files\navigator\)
last, when you run tomtom and change the voice, there will be a prompt indicating whether you will choose the same language, choose NO even you plan to select an english voice.
i am using tomtom 7.450.9028 in diamond.
i created the voices folder and didn't need the collected.ini file for the voices to work, cheers.
TomTom Voices Working
It took me two days to work it out myself. I had no problems with the files themselves, my issue was that I had installed tt7 on my SD card. I re-installed it to the Device and was able to then upload the new voices easily enough.
One tip: I used the "Explore" option in MS ActiveSync to navigate to the correct folder and dragged the voices I wanted over to the folder ("voices") located in the /Program Files/Navigator folder on the device. Full Path: /Program Files/Navigator/voices
Be sure to check "No" when it asks if you want to use the current language, or you may not see your new voices.
The *.vif files are plain text and are interpreted by tt7 to discover the voice's sex and languge. There are three numbers below the data*.chk entry which seem to indicate this and I'm not sure what else. Most of the newer tt7 files I downloaded had three numbers, anyway. The third-party (simulated) celebrity voicesI downloaded did not have these and tt7 seemed to think they were "Chinese" or "Special". It's not really worth it for me to fiddle around with various values in the *.vif files, but someone may wish to tweak them...
Limit?
Is there a limit of the amount of voices stored in the voices folder.
My Navigator only picks up before DATA121. Beyond that it doesnt appear.
I have my TomTom installed on my storage card and voices on my storage card.

i can't find it, and i've been searching for well over a week on the forum. a little help, please?

the voice files come in three parts the .vif the .chk and .bmp you need all 3 of the files of the corisponding voice to put into the voice folder thats in your root directory on you sd card
as said above make sure you have all 3 files, create a directory in the root of your microsd card called voices and then paste the 3 files into it. Open TomTom and go to the change voices under the settings and then scroll right until you find the voice you added.
I use version 6.010 because it allows me to have the changed data.chk file in the main tomtom dir which then has the speed camera warning voice of liz whitaker rather than the bell chime moo etc.

I need some more help here. I have spent hours fighting with this.
I installed TomTom from my MicroSD card and told it to install to device. Which it did. I have tried putting the voice files in the root of the SD card, tried putting them in a folder called voices in the root, I think I have tried them in every conceivable place on the device itself and can't get it to work. I accidentally got a Yoda voice to work but now can't figure out where I put the voice file to make it work. I had to flash my rom and now that voice is gone too. Is there a TomTom FAQ someplace on the net that people can go over.
Does this help?:

Hi there,
I also had the same problem, when I first bought my kaiser. There was a thread here in this forum telling how to rectify it. I vaguely remember going to the start>settings>connections>bluetooth. Then enabling the blue tooth explorer before installing the voices did the trick. But Now I did a hard reset and the problem is back again. So if u could find the solution please post it here...I couldnt find the orginal post.
Please check this thread..

Download it directly from kaiser by clicking on the tomtom plus services.
It you have a problem with TomTom seeing new voices you added, then you have to delete the reference file in the voice directory TomTom uses to organize the different voices. Once you delete this file (sorry I forget what it is called), then on the next launch, TomTom should see all of your new voices.
All I had to do was put the 3 files for each voice I wanted into the voice folder. This folder is located in the "my device" > "program files" > "navigator" > "voices". Then when you start the program, go to the voice preference settings. It will ask you if you want to use voices in your language or all languages. Choose "all languages". Scroll backwards through the voices and before long you should see the voices that you added to the folder.
Ok, so here's the deal: I finally got TomTom vs 6.032 (8351) working on my Tilt but I do not have any voices selected. Error message is "You did not select a usable voice"
Where do the voice files go in the file structure? What do they consist of? How do I select them?
I see some files in a VOICE folder on my PC (workstation) that has *.vif and *.chk file types, are these the voices?
Please help
prealphageek
go to tomtom plus options and select to download a voice..you can do it from your tomtom application on your phone..it is on the same page with close application page on options..

Voice files have .chk (actual voice file) and .vif (description) extensions. You can google "free tomtom voices" for some great celebrity voices. Just place the chk and vif file in \voices directory and you will be good to go.
You can also install TomTomHOME on your PC and download/manage your voices.
I had the same issue and a Google result advised to delete the "collected.ini" file after pasting the new voice files into the "voices" directory, then restarting TomTom. This worked like a charm and I now have John Cleese working correctly.
Hope this helps!
yeah john cleese is really the only good celebrity voice, all the others sound like crap/fake
Thanks guys I've got it work working and I'm loving it...
Have any of you guys tried creating your own tt voices? I found these stepshere
Edit or make your own TomTom voices:
1. Download and install VIFTOOL
2. Save voice files to the same directory as VIFTOOL
3. Save voice dataXX.CHK and dataXX.VIF files to the same directory as VIFTOOL
4. Goto Start>Run>CMD
5. In command window type "CD c:\viftool\"
6. In command window type "viftool.exe split dataXX.chk" to extract OGG files from tomtom CHK file.
7. Download Audacity installer - OGG editor
8. Open OGG files (one by one) with Audacity and replace original voice with your voice. Save your edits on exit.
9. Open OGG files (one by one) and replace original voice with your voice.
10. Download and install VifTool2.
11. Start VifTool2, enter file location and compress all OGG files to your own tomtom voice file.
12. Enjoy listening your own voice on your TomTom.
same problem please help

Hi all, been lurking here for a couple of years now & found the site invaluable as a source of information about my device's. I have an xda11i & 2 xda orbits. I have a tip for all who use TomTom Nav6 on their device's.
I had a problem where if I entered a postcode into TomTom it would only allow me to use the first 3 digits & then I would have to sort out the rest of the address manually, pointless!
then I read that I needed to move the folder called Zip to the /programs/navigator folder on the device. this though takes up nearly 10mb of space!
here's a way to save 10mb & still have postcode's working.
instead of moving the folder called Zip paste a shortcut to it in the /programs/navigator folder instead.
sorted

Forgot to mention you need to rename the shortcut from "shortcut to zip" to "Zip"

Just move all the TomTom stuff from you device to the equivelent folders on your storage card. Redirect the TomTom shorcut in \Windows\Start Menu and you will free up even more space.
Wow, an even better way to save space. Thanks for the heads up
thanks Wizzard

if you have bluetooth folders enabled, tomtom can't see the "ZIP" postcode folder on the storage card or the VOICES folder on the storage card. You can either copy the "ZIP" folder into the Navigator folder in main memory or you can disable Bluetooth Folders (start, settings connections, bluetooth, ftp)
Anyone know if there is a way to "tidy up" you storage card by placing all TomTom Files into one File (called "TomTom" for instance? If so what exactly do I need to redirect?
I have managed to get TomTom 7 working by putting the maps in the 'my documents' folder, but I have a problem with the dowloaded POI's.
They install from TomTom Home ok, but they do not appear on the Diamond.
I have no trouble installing voices from the Home.
Another problem is that the safety cameas do not show up on the map..but they appear when driving.
Can anyone tell me the folders each thing should be put into...e.g. safety cameras, poi's, voices etc, also some files are TLV, and some are TOC...which ones should they be?
Many thanks
POI's: place "yourPOI's.ov" and "yourPOI's.bmp" inside the map folder.
Voices: place voice file "data##.CHK" and "data##.BMP" in folder Voices.
I don't have safety camera original available from tomtom so I don't know about it; but I have some red light camera file save as POIs. If this is your case, it should be treated as normal POIs. Be sure to set "warn when near POI" and "Warn only if POI is on route."
You may try to check options "Points of Interest" when "Browse map of route"
Note: I save all tomtom voices, schemes and maps folder in the root of the storage card because I have Raphael (aka FUZE, Touch PRO.)
Thanks Nghiem, but my poi's are all TLV files, and TomTom Home put them in a poi folder. Maybe the file and program structure is different in TomTom 7 ?
Also the only reference to poi's in my map folder is a file called poi.dat..all the existing poi's work ok, its only the ones that are downloaded by TomTom Home that don't work
Can anyone shed some light on this?
many thanks
I have tomtom since they made tomtom 5 when you could purchase and run it for PDA legally in U.S Right now I have tomtom 7.xx and maps version 8.30.xxx. The "poi.dat" you see inside map folder is the original POI's from tomtom. All others POI's format are *.ov. and it can be downloaded extra via tomtom Home. I download and install some of them e.g "Haunted_Hotel.ov2" without any problem.
Hello there,
I've done a little search but couldn't find a solution. If that's my bad, sorry.
I've just installed iGO8 R3 on my 130Kaiser-wm6.1 and downloaded a Voice pack.
Then I sent the Zip files to the Content/Voice folder, but it says No Voice Files Found and denies starting iGO.
ALthough I knew all the voice files reside as .zips in my 6915, I put the sound files as folders (same names as zips) under Voice folder.
Still the same fatal error.
Voice files are there, but it just can't use them?
Please, I'm gonna travel bout 200 kms on nearly unknown roads and I don't have a GPS =)
Thank you, and sorry again if this is a repost.
There are different errors that can keep iGo from starting; I had this for a while, something about no language files. What is the exact message you receive? Files required in the Content folder:
Storage Card\iGo8\Audio\ (I don't know what these files do, but I think they are Required)
Storage Card\iGo8\Content\LANG\ (These are the language files and are Required)
Storage Card\iGo8\Content\MAP\ (These are your maps and are Required)
Storage Card\iGo8\Content\POI\ (These are your points of interest and I think may be Required)
Storage Card\iGo8\Content\Voice\ (These are your voices and are Required)
All of these files should have come with the purchased version of iGO8,
