Blue Angel Digitizer replacement and guide - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

The clear plastic sheet part of my digitizer has some indents in it making my digitizer not work. I have tried to remove the plastic sheet, erroneously thinking it was the digitizer. It is removed but has left parts of the sticky tape on edges. Screen looks perfect now it is removed.
I would like to know if I require a full digitizer replacement or if it is possible just to replace this plastic screen please?
Also I was hoping that someone could point me to a good guide on the digitizer or plastic screen replacement for the Blue Angel (It is GSM version if makes any difference)
Also looking at ordering a digitizer on ebay, they do not seem to specify what model it is? Is it like the LCD screens and there are several different versions so you need to make sure that you get the correct one for your item? (My blue angel is TD035STEC1)
Thankyou in advance for any help.

How do I replace Digitiser/Digitizer/Touchscreen overlay?

I have had my phone open a few times...
1) To replace Vario III case with Kaiser case
2) To fix faulty keyboard, had to bend some of the aluminium on the bottom of the keyboard unit.
So I know my way around inside and haven't broken anything... yet!
Anyway, my screen is very scratched so I want a new digitizer, they're significantly cheaper than a whole LCD assembly. I got one for £5, the assembly is over £30.
I did read on some thread that the digitiser WILL perish as I separate it from the LCD screen. Is this true? If so how easy is the clean up job?
Also, the official kaiser service manual shows the LCD and Digitiser held together with tape on the outside and not double sided tape or glue like the actual assembly looks like.
Has anyone done this before? Is there a decent risk of damaging the LCD itself or to be on the save side should I just buy the whole assembly?
I have the digitiser here and ready to go as long as I can get some info from someone who has tried this.
Cheers
Sorry bump.
to be honest there will be soldering involved and u need special equipment for that ribbon
look at http://rapidshare.com/files/103168855/HTC_Kaiser_Service_Manual_jas_pik.pdf
there is detailed procedure and all the tools needed, i believe the tools are basics, and i dont think they will be expensive to have, as matter of fact, i think buying a tool box is an asset.
best luck ...
Hi!
The service manual linked to does not specifically contain information about replacing the digitizer, just how to assembly it.
Do I need a certain kind of black tape to attach it? Is that the only way it is connected to the LCD itself?
Mine is also very scratched, and I would like to replace it, preferably done by myself.
Any tips?
Cheers
a good insulation tape (anti-static prefered) will do the job

Replace Digitizer only?

My touch screen stopped working on my phone, but the screen is still visible. I'm assuming it's the digitizer. I was wondering if anybody has done or tried replacing only the digitizer. Does this work, is it better just to replace both? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Save yourself the headache
Just replace the complete screen unit (lcd + digitizer).
The digitizer is held on the screen with some super strong adhesive that is nearly impossible to get off cleanly. Also, there are three (4?) thin ribbon tabs that have to be soldered to the board on the rear of the lcd. Unless you are really confident with a soldering iron, it is extremely hard to do.
I replaced my screen unit in about a half hour. Make sure you go to the wiki and find one of the excellent disassembly guides before you start.
Thanks
Thanks, that's exactly the information i needed to know. I found the fon logix video. Is it only a t6 tool i need, or do i also need a t5. I have seen conflicting info on this? Thanks again.
I got my scren unit from ebay, and it included a torx driver and a plastic case tool. I honestly can't remember what size came in the kit, because I used my own torx set. Im pretty sure its just the one size, though.
Good luck!

Disregard ............
i always replace only the touch screen. okay i've done it aprox 30 times. But i never broke one.
if you decide to replace only the touchscreen, there are 2 types. thus check which on you have, and i found out that sometimes reassamble, and cleaning can help.
good luck.
torx is 5 and 6, 6 for opening the back of the phone, 5 for the screen part removal of the body and opening it. you need an opening tool!!
adhesive
is there a terrible adhesive between the screen and digitizer, as the second poster mentioned? how difficult is it to deal with?
just cut away with snapoff knives. It wil break in more pieses. (the glas that is) just be carefull, and take your time
Thanks
Thanks for all of the info, i went ahead and purchased the screen with the digitizer and tools. One thing i have noticed though is the d-pad has stopped working also, i'm using a custom rom so i'm not sure if it's just that or it's something else. i will prob re-image after i replace screen.

Well, guess I was a smarty pants and bought my stuff before consulting XDA...as such, I ONLY bought the touchscreen rather than the entire new unit. Cheaper, yes, but I had no idea about the adhesive until just now. My only question is, once I remove the old screen from the LCD with a razor blade, how do I affix the new one?
Anyone?
i would love to know this too because i have to also replace my digitizer!

I used rtv gasket maker the transparent blue one worked well.
you can find it in automotive section. Actually any silcone will work.
also can use double sided tape but needs to be very thin
I've already changing my digitizer, but it doesn't seem to work. So I've change the whole part. cost me $20 more on ebay.
my advice is to change the whole package with the lcd too.

[URGENTLY] How to replace digitizer on lcd

hi, i have my phone opened, and i dont know how to replace digitizer on my LCD screen which i take from phone
Please Urgently.. Thx. Mike
P.S. Must i open LCD scr.?
I'd advise replacing the whole screen as digitizer is glued to screen, there is guides to how to replace the screen which can be found via search one of them is very easy as just remove the four screws from behind the screen.
Good luck
If your only replacing the digitizer, which isn't easy I have done a few.
You will need to carefully remove old digitizer, I heat up the digitizer where it's glued and remove it, it will come off in pieces (glass).
then clean residue glue off lcd frame.
then glue the new digitzer.
last part is soldering the connector on the digitzer to the connector on the lcd it's not easy, it can be done with solder iron but I use a rework station makes it 100 times easier.
good luck
now it isnt urgently.. on night i closed phone.. but it is strange.. my slide effect is strange.. whn i put phone on table, so UP part (LCD,action buttons) is little moved right than DOWN part.. for ex. i think this slide after closing has opposite direction !BUT ONLY LITTLE (1mm)!
thanks for advice..
and i think this thread can could be good tread for everyone who dont know what to do with LCD. As me
I would also advise to replace the entire screen. They are easily sourced from a well known auction site and most will supply the opening tools and a screen protector.
A simple web search will find the service manual to open your pda. There are tuts for replacing the screen by removing the 4 screws behind the screen and pulling the housing apart to slide the screen out. Bewarned that if you are too forceful you will damage the mic and other parts that are still screwed to the board.
I bought two Xda stellars some time back. Both needed a lil TLC. One a scratched screen the other the housing was badly scuffed. Having repaired a few PDAs, I thought I would ask an independant store to see what they would charge (labour only as i would supply parts). He quoted £20 for each phone, have a look at the service manual see the steps to take it apart and reassemble ask yourself for the sake of £20 is it worth the aggro.
Good luck with your replacement, I hope this helps and any others who encounter similar issues.
is it possible to use a raphael lcd replacement and install it on the kaiser? thus allowing a higher dpi?

Simple answer, No !
ok, on kaiser i can use only kaiser LCD? (no vogue,no tytn 1.....)
Correct, the Kaiser motherboard is ONLY compatible with the type of screen it originally came with.
I heard the t-mobile wing digitizer would work on the tilt.
I have not try it, maybe on next one needs new digitizer.
My son has just broke the screen on his tytn2, reading through there seems to be the screen itself and the digitiser behind, if I order both of these, are they a simple fit, someone referred to soldering, I do not want to go down that route................
Just found how to video on you tube, looks fiddly, but I will give it a go.

Do I need a whole new screen or just a digitizer?

So I dropped my Tilt today and there are several big cracks through the glass front. The phone works fine and I think the LCD screen is alright. I think the cracks are just in the glass part and the LCD is fine but I cant tell. One thing for sure is that the touch response is all messed up and I can't align it. I see digitizers on ebay for cheap. Is that the glass part that is cracked? Can I just get that or do I need a whole screen assembly?
Thanks
I tried to change digitizer but it is a mess you need to weld it to the display and it is not so easy (I'm not an electronic technician), additionally it comes sticked all around the display border so it is hard to clean the display boundary to stick the new digitizer and also it is hard to remove the old digitizer because it is to weak to remove it in one piece. For this reason, at least for my experience, I rather prefer to change the display and digitizer together so you don't have to fight with the removal, welding and sticking the new digitizer. Hope help you take decission.

[Q] Replacing digitizer

I've cracked the outer layer of glass on my optimus x2 which I assume is just the digitizer (I'm new to all this smartphone jazz but i've had alot of experience with building computers and such and i can follow instructions) and i'm guessing the cheapest way to repair this thing is to do it myself. I emailed LG asking about what they can do with it and they were asking for £20 just to look at the damn thing so i can't imagine actually doing any work on it would be cheap.
(can't post links but it was just some cheap generic one from amazon for £30)
I'm guessing something like this would do the job but I also need some special adhesive to get the LCD to stick to the digitizer am i right? I'm worried that it will not be as responsive or i'll do it wrong and i only recently dished out £250 for this so i'd like to try and do this right. I've watched a couple of videos on youtube which have helped a bit but none went right through the process so if anyone with any experience doing this could tell me about it i'd be very grateful.
its not that hard. everything just peels off when heated with a hair drier.
the digitzer should come with sticky strips which go around the outside of the lcd and stick to the out side of the digitizer.
Also try to get a digitizer with a frame already on it. otherwise youll have a little bit of a hard time trying to remove the glass from the frame, then gluing in the new one with adhesive.

Just follow this guide exactly, you should be fine man

Thanks for the reply, that's a lot of help Could you recommend any retailer that sells these? I can't work out if any of the ones i'm looking at come with the sticky strips. Would I also not need any adhesive if it comes with the frame? I'm not sure I trust myself too much with doing that either.....
I recently replaced my digitizer. I ordered a digitizer already in housing off ebay, shipped from Hong Kong. I would strongly recommend buying it with housing, as it's often difficult to completely make sure that dust does not get between the digitizer and the screen when you're using adhesive tape.
When disassemblying the o2x, I found the adhesive sticking the LCD to the digitizer frame was too strong for the LCD to come off just like that (be careful, it's quite fragile). I heated the LCD a bit using a hair dryer, to make it come of easier. This has the added effect that enough adhesive may stick to the LCD, so you don't need to replace it when placing it in the new frame.
I only added a couple of adhesive strips to the top and bottom of the new frame before mouting the LCD. That was pretty stupid, cause the extra 0.1mm between the digitizer and the LCD means that when tilting the phone ~60 degrees to the sides, I can see the backlights at the sides of the screen. Surprisingly this doesn't seem to add any noticeable backlight bleeding though, so it's not a problem at all. However, I'd suggest to try and see if the LCD sticks to the frame with the old adhesive, before using adhesive strips. And if using adhesive strips, make sure you remove all the old adhesive from the LCD, and use adhesive strips all around the frame.
The only minor things to look out for are:
- Be very careful with the LCD! It takes very little flexing before getting dead stripes/areas.
- Careful with the plastic at the USB port - it's a bit difficult to get to fit, and it's quite thin, so I figure it will break easily.
- At the top of the phone, where the digitizer (or LCD, I don't remember) cable is mounted, there's a little grey rubber-thingy - it suddenly fell off my phone, and it took embarrassingly long to figure out where and how it fits
- The small backup battery (?) in the upper left corner of the phone is glued to the frame. I used a small flat-headed screw driver to release it from the frame. Don't try and remove it by yanking the flex cable.
But all in all, replacing the digitizer with a new one (already in a frame) was a quick and easy operation.
Edit: I bought this digitizer: ebay. co. uk/itm/T-Mobile-LG-P990-Optimus-2X-Replacement-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Frame-ZVLT338-/160656180054?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2567dac356 and some cheap 2mm adhesive strips like ebay. co .uk/itm/3M-Sticker-tape-Adhesive-cellphone-touch-screen-LCD-2mm-HTC-Samsung-Sony-/200710386131?pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item2ebb4571d3#ht_1099wt_1165
Why didn't I think of this before.. been cracks in my display for almost a half year now.
Local repair company said it takes two weeks to fix.. I had no plans to go two weeks without my phone
Just ordered one
p990 mother board
dear friend
sorry for my eanglish i write from italy.
i need your help but before i have to explane my problems:
i've a lg optimus x2 (p990) with water demage.....
i cleaned the mother board with success..now the phone turn on and fix the phone net and it can recognize the battery charge.
but unfortunately WI-FI,BLUETOOTH AND MIC(the people who call me can't hear me) DON'T WORK, THE GPS I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE I HOPE TO RESTORE THE WII-FI AND INSTAL GOOGLE MAPS.
i'm sure that wi-fi problems come from the mother board because i have an other same device so i made a test using the good one but the mic problems persisted
my question is ,do you know wich parts i have to check and clean again?
do you know where the wii-fi component are located in the mother board?
thanks for your attention

Sorry for bringing up this old thread, but I have to ask, are all Optimus 2X digitizers the same? Don't some have different connectors or anything? Can I order any Optimus 2X digitizer for my P990? I was thinking of this digitizer, will it work?: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digitizer-F...7BUA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364833172&sr=8-1
I had to replace mine recently, I read there are cheap ones where they only recognize 2 fingers instead of 5 like the genuine LG part. I ordered my digitizer from Ebay for around 18 british pound, I followed a few videos on Youtube with the disassembly, it's actually not that hard.
Keep in mind though that not all digitizers might come with glue attached or come with plastic tools, so keep a small bottle of glue and some plastic tools (credit card style plastic, knife) ready. One video recommends buying foam pads to glue around the digitizer, I didn't find that necessary, I just glued my new digitizer back onto the frame without problems. I accidentally made some glue residue onto the inside of mine, so make sure that you work very carefully
I have done this twice. It is not too hard and a lot cheaper. I follow this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po8hBaZt__o.
Do yourself a favour and buy a digitizer with bezel (which is a frame). The first I bought was ****ty Hong Kong digitizer, the second one good Polish(?): http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_nkw=p990&_sacat=0&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_armrs=1&_ssn=digitaloutlet.pl
The hardest part is not to get dust between digitizer and lcd screen - you could consider wearing gloves...
The second hardest part is not to bend bezel around usb inlet.
Good luck!
So there's no connector difference?

The connector should fit any p990. If you are in doubt email the seller.

Sorry for coming back to this rather old thread, but I have recently replaced the digitizer on my LG P990, bought on ebay shipped from Hongkong, following the video guide cited above. However the digitizer now works erratically with upper 1/4 not responding to touch, and sometimes the whole thing does not work, so I am unable to unlock the phone at all. The only thing that worried me during replacement was the thin layer of plastic film on the inner side, which teared off when removing protective layer (the film was extremely thin and fragile)-would this be the problem? Or the digitizer itself is of low quality?
Any suggestions appreciated.
