I may be shooting myself in the foot for asking this, but is there a way to transfer programs/Apps from one PPC (iPAQ 4355) to another (HTC Kaiser) without having the .exe files?
There are a few on my old PPC that I still like to use, but don't want to have to re-buy again.
For most, there's no need to buy again. Download the installer, pump in your serial number, and it'll run just fine. The only exception to this I can think of on my phone is Voice Command, which does require the licensed installer app.

Care to elaborate? How do I go about getting the downloader? Some of these apps I have had for a while, so it would be hard (if not impossible) to get the serial #'s
Thanks
If the version hasn't changed, it's pretty much hit the manufacturer's web page, download, and run.
The serial numbers would be your issue, though. If you don't have those and your app doesn't display it in "Help-About," the registration page, or some place similar, you'd need to have it archived somewhere. I'm an e-mail packrat so I've got mine going back years. Some manufacturers will e-mail you your serial numbers if you ask support, though. Recovery from hard resets or replacement phones.
If you can't find them somehow, you have to figure out what directories and registry hives to backup, back them up, move them over, and hope that it works.
I read somewhere of a program to move all softwares from one device to another without installing, but i didn't downloaded it then. Now I dont even remember the name for it. Sorry. But you try searching it, if u get it pls let us know. I'll do the same. Thanx.

Hi guys,
I would like you all to take a look at the program Ultimate Theft Alert v3 (http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs-2.html).
This program is an anti-theft program for your WM5 Device.
I was one of the 1st users of it and since then it made much improvement and has some real cool feautures (the developer is someone that actually listens to his customers!).
When a new (unregistred in the program) SIM Card is entered in your device the program sends 2 Text Messages to a predifined number (you can add more numbers). One text message has a predifined message (that you can adjust in the program) and the 2nd text message sends the IMSI number of the SIM Card to your device.
The program has 2 extra plug-ins for now:
1) Doing a hard-reset after inserting a non-registred SIM Card
2) Copy all the SIM Cards contacts to the predifined number(s)
This program is in my opinion the most perfect anti theft alert for your device!!
Just check it out....
Regards,
Molski
p.s. UTA v3 only costs $12,99 ....in my opinion very cheap for a $400 device
Damm - Wish I'd seen this a week or two ago!
This sucks.
My phone was stolen 2 days ago by some loser, and all my data, hacks, tweaks, and software on it has to be reinstalled (of course) . What really P's me off though, is that I have no clue who took it, and I'd really like to be able to get back at the jerk for stealing it. Sigh. Well, I have my new replacement (Cingular shipped it FedEx yesterday and it arrived today), so I have to get busy w/ it and getting it set up. Thankfully, it is a G3, like my old phone.

Then you sure can imagine how important software like this can be!
I'm glad you got a replacement Wizard (and also am glad because it's a G3 ).
I like UTA a lot and build my own cab for it and included it in my ExtRom, so after a hard-reset it's installed automatically

i have ultimate protect on my phone. and i like. its pretty good.

How did it get stolen? If you don't mind me asking?
Im curious... What would you be able to do with the information from the program in the event that your PDA is stolen??? What are the chances of getting it back???
Revenge?
If the program uses the new SIM to send SMS to a number you specified, and passes any phone numbers held in that SIM as part of the mesage content, then you have the phone number of the thief and all his contacts!
You could call him up and ask for your phone back.
You could call all his contacts and ask them to persuade him to give your phone back.
You also get the IMSI number of the SIM card. This is what network operators use to block stolen phones. You may be able to persuade the operator to block the thief's SIM.
Few problems I noticed
1) I can't delete a SIM card Number from the list.
2) Except for the Hard Reset Option under EXTRAS, everything else is greyed out including "Send SIM Contacts and CALL LOG Details"
3) I know how to add this to the Ext. ROM but do I add the UTA.exe file under Windows to it or the Installation CAB. Also where is the DATA file located, the one that holds the SIM card entries and the Alert SMS Numbers?
this program has an option for you to install into ext rom?
cuz it states it can survive a hard reset.
thanks!
Guys, how do you add it to the EXT rom? please assist.
on WM6 (schaps 3.30c german) UTA 3 pops up an error when inserting an unregistered simcard. "systemeigene ausnahme...." somekind of exception error. The sms is beeing sent - but the thief would see the errormessage.
Any suggestions?
Uninstalling
To all the techies,
Could anyone please let me know how to uninstall the ultimate theft alert as i want to format my storage card. If I format it will there be any stray files left on my device memory and if yes then could it confict with the phone.
Thanks
TK
that is an amazing idea i will be checking it out that seems very smart and im willing to bet with my silly brain i will misplace my wizard for sure haha

Good morning, I've found this tutorial on their forum:
"Extended ROM Installation [v35!]
If you would like to know what's Extended ROM, read my article here.
Please note that Extended ROM installation is not possible on all devices. Different devices use a different Autorun Method. Autorun is sometimes a small application that tells the device what softwares need to be installed in what order automatically after a hard-reset. Some have a feature of copying files whereas the others stimulate cab files to be installed.
Before you proceed, its advised to know what are the files and in what locations should they be for the software to work.
In Windows folder:
UTAv35.exe - Core Module
Tapilib.dll - Resource Library File
Uta_confige.dll - Configurations File
Rdui.dat - Registration File
VbLocation.dll - Resource Library File
Uta_adn2.0.exe - Core Add-on Module
In Windows/StartUp folder:
UTAv35.lnk - Shortcut to core module
The above files when in place, the software will work as registered/activated and with configurations! Depending upon your device, you need to make these files available in place, either via custom cab file created with third-party softwares such as WinCE Cab Manager or via Direct Copy file method from Extended ROM after Unlocking it!
In some devices, the stupid signing security warning appears, preventing to start the application directly. In that case, additionally you need install this file http://www.PocketPC-Live.com/ds.cab Through Extended ROM installation in the first place.
Good news for forum users: If you have your posts count over 50, we shall help you make the custom cab file ourselves Happy participating... Even if your post count is below 50, don't worry, we will always try helping you with your queries here. Just reply to this topic and we shall be glad to assist you further.

DO NOT USE THIS!!
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pocket-pc-installation-creator-v2-3.html
I tried to use this app to create a cab file. It has an internal virus that changes the username of your phone to a Chinese variant when the created cab is run. (not sure why?)
Knew nothing about this until my Worldmate and Resco shut down on my TyTynII (they check their codes with username everytime you sync online).
Guess AV for WM is something to look at now!!
A virus? I doubt it...
Don't overreact and waste money on virus program for WM6. The experts may correct if I am wrong but I still can remember only 1 test case of a "sample" virus in windows mobile a few years back.
And changing your phone's user name to the chinese equivalent, considering it is possibly written by someone who is, uh, chinese, doesn't constitute a virus.

I did not suggest to anyone to go out and buy AV software but, I can send you the .cab file if you would like to check for youself??
A virus or Trojan would not have to specifically work with onboard comms apps on the WM unit but so many people (especially in the US) are tethering there devices now giving a 'back door' so to speak..
It would not take much for a small packe on your WM device to drop items into your Outbox and when you sync, hey presto, it goes.
Basic PC AV would not see this.
EDIT: OK, for want of a better term, cal it Malware...Take a look at this, it's a bit long winded but gives you some idea. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/reference/malicious.threats.to.pdas.html
Without wasting your time discussing how I'm here...I have a bunch of calendar entries on my Tilt, all deleted in my PC, and I want to syncy the Tilt to the PC. But it comes up and tells me on the device: "There has been a change on teh server that requires you to resynchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful synch will be deleted. Do you want to continue?"
If I continue, I end up with all deleted from my devie, none moved to my PC (I have them in a backup, but restoring them to the device doesn't help).
Do have have a way around this?
how many entries r we talking? i mean if 20 or less i would just type them into calendar on pc for a quick fix.
never had the issue so can't help w/way around
Well, I have probably 140 entries over several months.
The good news is I can get many back which are on my Work calendar, but maybe a not so large number that are not on my work calendar that I can't get back. But then, I need to identify what those are. That's the harder part, seaching through and figuring out which will be thre, which will not, etc.
I would think there should be a way to not have the PC be FORCED to be the master.
But, I'm not optimistic.
I wonder if anyone can help me locate iSkoot for skype as its unavailable in the market place in the UK
Be really grateful for any advice or direction.

I got mine from the marketplace, you might try this...
http://www.iskoot.com/register.php?device=NoDevice
--M
ANy Screen shoot will be appreciated
iSkoot is a JAVA based Software or Native Android Application
Make sure you really need iskoot. It uses plan minutes by redirecting through a local phone number (ie, it uses your minute bucket). It's not the VOIP app that people think it is. It's a decent workaround for people with lots of minutes who use skype contacts regularly, though.
The local number thing may be why it wasn't included in the non-US marketplace, as it might not be configured for the UK yet. Stringing together hearsay from other forums, so I may be wrong.
I personally want iSkoot to be able to chat to my Skype contacts rather than call them.
So can anyone provide .apk for it? As it seems there's no way to get it for UK users.
Impossible to find
I tryied over the internet and even in my Android Market I cannot find iSkoot. Can someone please upload the native app for android?
An FYI, but I'm a UK T-Mobile customer currently in the US on an extended vacation.
I bought an unlocked US G1 on Ebay and put my UK T-Mobile SIM in it. Everything worked fine, except I too could not see iSkoot in the marketplace. I'm not data roaming, so I've been accessing the internet over WiFi.
When I got the phone, it came with a US T-Mobile SIM - I put this in the phone and even though the SIM is not connected to a plan, I could then see and download iSkoot from Marketplace over WiFi. In addition, when I replaced the UK SIM in the device and tried to use iSkoot, it worked - it even tried to dial a UK access number which is how I guess iSkoot uses plan minutes.
Therefore, it seems likely that Marketplace can "detect" your region from your SIM card and apply restrictions based on that.
I suggest that getting hold of one of these:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/Detail.aspx?class=prepaid&device=53299206-c069-429a-82fa-000007a2ac12
Might allow non-US users to have less restricted access to the Marketplace over WiFi.
Regards,
Dave

Looks like it's free software, that requires registration to work, so i don't see the harm in uploading the files. If someone knows of it being against the wishes of the software developer then just PM me. Thanks for checking.
can't sign in
does anyone else (in the US) have this problem?
i'm getting:
ERROR
You're already signed on in a different mobile device
i'm obviously not - anyone else saw this?
thanks,
E.
Try to push several time space on your keyboard during the signing.
Anyone can help me to change inside the apk file the defaultSkypeHost=http://gw1.iskoot.com into defaultSkypeHost=http://skype.tre.it/p-iskoot ?
In this way i can use the Xseries minutes included in my H3g plan....
Thx for any help.
I'm looking to do the same when I get the time.
I think I found the line you're looking for in the res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk
You can view or extract the apk file using winrar or z-zip.
I used Microsoft office to view the file so I guess you could edit it.
You might have to resign the apk if you're successful with the editing it so check out the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007
Let me know how it goes?
Update:
Haven't yet tested to see if iskoot is using my 6000 free skype mins or not but my mod and install seemed to work. Give it a go and let me know if it works for you.
Steps:
Download the iskoot.apk from xda-dev
use winrar or 7-zip to extract the contents
use microsoft office word to edit the res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk
to replace the existing strings from
defaultSkypeHost=http://gw1.iskoot.com
backupHost=isk-bos-app2.iskoot.com
baseUrl=isk-bos-app2.iskoot.com
to the relevant ones, which can be found here
http://pastebin.com/f483b9120
for uk I amended them to
defaultSkypeHost=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
backupHost=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
baseUrl=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
save as the original filetype if asked/prompted
Open the orginal iskoot.apk (not the extracted one) and delete the original startup.properties file then drop the modified one into its place
Delete the META-INF folder from the iskoot.apk before closing and saving
Download the autosign app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007 and extract it
place your customised iskoot.apk into the auto-sign folder and run the .bat file. If you run into problems it might be because you have to change your windows folder options and untick "hide extensions for known filetypes" in the view tab (in windows xp). Then you can rename the file from .zip to .apk and the signing process should work.
Transfer the file to your Magic or G1 and install (I used astro filemanager and made sure I allowed the install non-market applications option)
I entered my skype settings into the phone and rebooted for good measure. Note it doesn't work over wifi so make sure that's off.
Test call worked a treat and a look at the call log showed an outgoing local number was used.
Just need to check my monthly bill now!?
I tried to change res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk but when i make a call trough iskoot i see that the number called is not the Xseries number but the generical iskoot local number for my nation.
I don't know if this happen because I first installed a normal iskott version then I uninstalled it and reinstalled the modified version.
Any other feedback?
Thx in advance.
Nice
I was one of few beta testers of this kind of app (made by Skype genuinely) for S40 phones (I had SE K750i) and it is very useful if you do not have an endless data plan want to get a hold on someone outside your country. Even if he/she is not in skype and is using an ordinary cellphone it still comes cheaper I think (the local call fee+skypeout credit)

I can confirm that doing this hack in the UK, does not make iskoot use the x-series number. I have been charged for my skype-to-skype calls.
Upon further investigation I have determined that it is dialing the wrong number. The number dialed was 442070431521, whereas the number that should be dialed is 447838333878. I cannot, however, find a way to make iskoot dial the desired number. Any thoughts?
don't have a dream but on my italian diamond i just changed the registry
CallNumber= ...........
with the number it's ment to call...so in my case +393933934446
Hi,
I'm wondering if I have the right number. You wouldn't happen to know where to look for these numbers, would you?
Good Evening Guys,
A few quick questions for you this Wednesday evening; looking to make some customizations to my Windows Phone. I would like to alter the word "Goodbye" when the phone turns off to display alternative text.
Question 1: Is anyone familiar where these settings are stored in the root offhand?
Question 2: Can anyone confirm if this is simply text or a prerendered image?
Questin 2: Has anyone ever tried anything like this before?
Best Regards!
Device Type
Almost forgot:
Nokia 1020
OS:8.0.10521.155
Um... we can't even made the smallest of changes to the Lumia file system (outside of the user documents/media folders and the app folders) or registry. Trying to change system stuff like this is pretty out of the question.
Since you ask, though: to the best of my knowledge, nobody has found that even on the Samsung Ativ phones, for which we have most of a working "jailbreak".
The string that is displayed is probably pulled from a .MUI file.
Thanks for the feedback guys. If I make any headway, I will post back. Would love to have the device power down with "Will I dream?" from 2010 The Year We Made Contact.
That would indeed be cool. You've got an uphill battle, though. If it is, in fact, a .MUI file then it's probably signed (MUIs are technically DLLs, and although they are usually just loaded as resource files they can contain executable code so I expect Microsoft signs and enforces signature checks on them). Thus even if you get filesystem write access, it may not work.
A true custom ROM, where you could remove the signature check requirements, would probably work. That's no simple thing to ask for, though!
