Turn your Kaiser into an electronic picture frame - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Electronic picture frames are slowly catching on, and we all have gigabytes of family pictures on our desktops at home, but dont have much opportunity to see them.
Ive just bought a Tilt, which has the ideal design for either a desktop clock or a small picture frame. I tether every day, so its normally sitting next to my laptop, powered, but doing nothing.
My solution is in 2 parts. 1 free and 1 will cost $9.95
First, how to get your pictures on the device. This is simple using the media synchronizing abilities of active sync and desktop Windows Media Player.
First enable the media sync plug-in in activesync, then go to Windows Media Player and go to the sync tab with your device plugged in. There you should see your device as a sync-able storage device. Select it, chose to create a new sync profile, be sure to remove all the ones that are already there by default, choose to sync pictures, and add a further criteria to only sync say 10 MB. Set it to sync automatically.
This will copy about 10 Mb of photos (shrunk down to 320x211 resolution) to your device, to a Pictures folder at the root of your device.
Next you need an app called Dockwave Pro. This is not free (they do offer a free version, but it does not have the configuration options we need). Install it, point it to the pictures folder on your device, set the time out and the job is done.
Now every time your device is powered and idle for a few minutes, you will be surprised by a random selection of photos from your collection.
There is not much detail in this post, as I'm not sure how many people are interested, but it obviously can be fleshed out more with screen shots etc if there is enough interest. For a Tilt/Kaiser user its near perfect of course, as the device almost seemed designed for the role.
BTW, there is a built-in option in the built-in picture viewer, under options/slide show to play a screen saver of the pictures under the My Documents\My Pictures directory if your device is idle for 2 minutes, but Windows Media Player wont synchronize pictures to a directory accessible to that software, and the transitions are poorer.

Interesting idea. Could probably whip up a custom app for that. Now comes the problem. I have no pictures! (I should really get a camera, lol )

I think you may have a decent 3 megapixel one lying around
If you are going to make a custom viewer, you really need to try out Google photo screen saver out for inspiration. It has a brilliant zoom and pan mode which really brings your pictures to life, and it also downloads pics via RSS, which makes for a nice ever-changing performance.

Right Too bad it has no flash and even though it has 3MP the quality is nothing to write home about. I mean a real camera, that takes pictures I want to keep

Overkill I think for on a 320x240 device, but who knows. I don't even know if or when I'm going to do this, just an idea

Well, Chainfire,
For one, I would LOVE to see what you could come up with for a custom application! To test it out, just download a few pics from someplace....
$9.95 isn't bad...but something that matches the elegance of our Kaiser/Tilts is deserving of something GREAT!

Quality won't have to be stellar on that small screen though

haha, I miss one day in here and i find myself way behind. Thanks for the tip.
what does this prog have that you cant just simply use windows media player for...i listen to audio(mp3's, stream live radio and news, and watch sports and news broadcast's on windows media player, so what specifics other then being just and audio manager does this thing do perfect for listening to music.
Also is this one less resource intensive than the previous one (one on the Cruise ver 1.02 build 1017.717)? I had read a thread somewhere comparing the cpu usage of wmp compared to audio manager and remember audio manager being more resource intensive. Also anyone know how this one performs when opening up with over a thousand songs? The aforementioend one lags.

I prefer audio manager over windows media. First, audio manager is more user friendly, second, you can trim music for your ringtones, what else is there to state?
this does seem a bit faster than the older htc audio manager...before if a song was playing, and i went to the library, all songs...and just scrolled through them quickly using the d-pad...the music would stop every few seconds, now i can scroll from top to bottom and it doesn't skip at all.
thanx for the find...but only if i could get the true htc touch diamond audio manager w/ the cover art. that plus htc diamond weather and i'd be set
you can add mp3's on your sd card or device to be your ringtones without this application tho....so i still see no difference in this and WMplayer other then cool lookingness and its an htc app specifically for audio playing and not for a wide range of things like how windows media player is.

It comes down to personal choice. I like how Audio Manager handles its categories.
yea personal taste is what it all boils down too...i just hate wasting space in my device thats unneccessary even tho i have a 2gig card (i have a huge phobia of going over 35-40mb of space on my total of 125 on my device storage not microsd card) im currently at 35mb..with 90mb on the dot free on my device. Becauuse obviously the more device storage u waste up, you start clogging up your phone and it starts slowin down and eventually you have the tough chose of bearing on with the slight but burdening sluggishness or hard reset your phone and start from scratch again and even if you uninstal apps, some of their .dlls or temp files still stay embeded in your phone and you will never be able to delete them unless you hunt them down in the windows folder and im too scared that i might delete the wrong file and it could be a system file and i end up doing some dumb**** ...but i also do wanna try it out and see if having another media player thats specifically for playing mp3's is worth it. So there you have it, a break down of my harddriveaphobia...but for you guys ill try out the app. This was like therapy..thanks nobody that really helped.

One great thing about Audio Manager over WMP is that it can remember the last song you were playing. Good luck doing that with WMP.
So...
It's not diamond manager, it's only images skin for HTC audio manager packed to CAB file...
Better is WMP diamond skin
I seem to be the first to say this. But after Audio manager is installed. Were is it suposed to be located? been looking around for 30 min now and i cant still find it...
guys I installed this program and I can't find the program in my program list at all. after I installed the program, it shows that its installed in my phone, its in my remove programs list in settings...but theirs no program icon in programs...and theirs no folder for it in my program files folder on my device and in my storage card where I asked it to install to. So has anyone ran into this problem before? I can't open this app at all because their is no folder or program icon for it...can someone help? p1tater, redbandana? somebody? thanks
trying to install the cab by itself does not change anything about the audio manager skin...so is their some files I need to replace to get the updated diamond audio manager to work correct?
This looks to be just a theme. All it does is copy some pngs to the windows folder.

Converting Films, and Playing on the TD2

After much trial and error I have finally got films playing at an acceptable quality on my TD2.
I have looked at a lot of threads from the Touch HD forum and tried quite a few programs including DVD Fab, the Touch HD ‘Encoder’, Super, Mp4ForHD and a few others I can’t even remember.
What I have found works best ‘for me’ is this combination:
Use DVD Decrypter from here http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/to remove the encryption on the DVD, and to also transfer it to your hard drive.
Then I use Handbrake from here http://handbrake.fr/ using this setup I can batch convert films instead of one by one by using Handbrake alone.
Steps:
1. DVD Decrypter
2. Using the default settings I select where I want the film to be stored, then just click on the bottom Icon.
3. This takes about 25 minutes depending on the disc.
4. Handbrake
5. Someone on one of the many threads I saw recommended to use the ipod legacy settings, and while this helped, it fell a little short, so I adjusted and came up with the following settings
6. Select Source (this would be where you saved the files previously)
7. I leave Title as is, as long as the Duration looks the right length
8. Browse for a location to save to finished file (make sure you add .m4v to the name)
9. Settings:
a. Format M4Vb. Picture Settingsi. Automaticii. Width / Height –Leave Blankiii. Anamorphic – Noneiv. Other settings leave off / unchecked
{

}
c. Videoi. Video - Video Codec – H.264 (x264)ii. Video - Framerate – Same as Sourceiii. Quality – Target Size – Leave Blankiv. Quality – Avg Bitrate 1000v. Quality - Constant Quality 0%
d. Audio & Subtitlesi. Source – Select English (or your language) IMPORTANT, This will need to be selected for each film you convert, the settings won’t be savedii. Audio Codec – AACiii. Mixdown – Stereoiv. Sample Rate 48 kHzv. Bitrate 128 kbps
10. I leave Chapters, Advanced and Query Editor alone.
11. Now you can Click ‘Start’, but this will only do one at a time (and as explained in the Handbrake docs, if the GUI crashes you lose the conversion) so I always select ‘Add to Queue’
12. Now you can either ‘Run’ the queue or once you have added the current file to the queue you can now start from Selecting Source and recheck the settings, then ‘Add to Queue’ with the next film, great for batch converting.
Now for me it takes about four hours for each film, so its not quick, but my PCs fairly old (P4 3.0 Mhz, 1500mb RAM), but considering it has to change each frame of the film I don’t think that’s bad.
Once its all done you end up with around a 1-1.5 gb file, transfer this to an SD card.
For viewing I use only HTC Album for these files, both Coreplayer and WMP don’t perform as well (if at all), also although HTC Album is limited in its settings, there is a simple way to convert the picture from Letterbox, to Full Screen, to Cropped (as long as you haven’t entered anything in the picture size ‘Width / Height’ settings) by using the square button on the right hand side when playing a film.
Note 1: I discounted some of the programs I tried because they couldn’t merge the vob (DVD files) files into a single output file, unless you wanted to use yet another program to do this (‘Vob Merge’ can do this, although I never tried it)
Note 2: To avoid any ‘issues’ this should only be used for DVDs you already own.
Just thought I’d share my experience as it took me quite a while to get the results I wanted.
Please feel feel to let me know what your thoughts are.View attachment 203674

That's a good one,but Oh My God! Does that mean the TD2 won't be able to play .avi or .divx? I thought I will just drag and drop my PC videos/movies to the TD2 and it will play flawlessly. I really hate this converting thing..

Oh do not worry
I never converted a divx for my TD2.
Never had a problem
But i think if the film is converted our TD2 will drain the battery not fast as not converting at all (just my opinion and NOT confirmed by tests)
Or perhaps it is ok to convert when a divx has a VERY high bitrate.
for me i dont have convert i just use coreplayer to play my movie files
Sorry, I should have made it clearer, but this is for DVD's only, as for most people trying to play 4gb + vob files taken straight from a DVD would pose problems!
As for other formats, it all down to what works best for you.
this is post number 9999999 about the subject, and in many experiences it doesn't really matter which converter u use, but the settings are important, and also important to know is that the mediaplayer that comes with your TD2 (i'm talking about the one that looks like windows mediaplayer) can run HDvideo on your TD2, which for me is the only way i want to watch anyway, cause any other player can't use the diamond 2's HD acceleration for video....
so convert to mp4 (h.264). look up the proper thread for it somewhere in the topaz threads. it's out there somewhere. worked great for me, and gives me the maximum quality on my td2.

I know that Android is beginning to replace WinMo, but if you want to get a foothold on Android your going to have to port your media player to android first.

The main difference between winmo and android/iphone is that one is for professional use (intelligent people who work and think) and one is for entertainment (children, adult handicaps and people who don't know how to hold a pencil). Unfortunately looks like WinPho7 is going that way too - another toy. You might like it

I don't want to bring you down but you're bundling a lot of useless files (same as Tech1 build... all those dll files are either useless or already exist in the ROM). I get the feeling you used Tech1 pack as base and added some files from the fake 0.81 and the other ones are from bimbam...
Some may prefer the subs.plg (because it works in all video modes) but has a lot of flickering in fullscreen depending on the video size and must be activated (in settings) everytime you play a movie with subs.
Only advantage is that using an old player.exe makes the lyrics plugin work...
However it's a (way) bigger setup, without skin support (unless you consider the backgound used by the lyrics plugin) and older components.
Some Pointers...
You may want to see exactly which plugins your executable uses, and which it does not... These will vary depending on which versions you have. More is not always better, and fewer plugins means more speed, and greater efficiency. With testing, you will be able to determine which ones you can delete, and which ones are necessary...

[APP] Simple (unrestricted!) YouTube app [V0.3] - Updated

Hey all,
I was tired of not being able to find certain video's in the popular YouTube apps out there in the MP. So I decided to throw a quick and simple app together which (at least for me) is able to locate and play the same results as the desktop version of YouTube.
So VeVo video's etc and other copyrighted stuff normally not available on mobile is available with this app. Please let me know if it also works in Germany.
Let me know if there is any interest, i might do further development. It is very basic now and all built in one day. Dont expect too much of it. Quick and simple, enjoy it!

Thank you! Great App!
I tried it on my Omnia 7 and It works fine, but some videos aren't smooth, for example Pixie Lott - Turn It Up by pixielottvevo in Standard Definition.
If you could fix it, it would be perfect
Thanks again!
I have to say that it is so nice to have a YouTube app that has a wonderfully clean interface, allows us to watch ALL videos, and runs so smoothly. Haven't noticed anything about choppy video playback. I don't mean to discredit the other wonderful Youtube apps available but the clutter that comes with them seems unnecessary and very distracting. It is my belief that most users are just searching and watching and the "featured", "most played", and most "discussed" sections of other apps are overkill. This is the perfect replacement for the HTC YouTube app which for most of us has to be sideloaded(like this one of course) but which also doesn't play copyrighted videos. Please, please, please keep it simple and focus on optimization if anything if future updates Even the simplicity of your icon is perfect!!!! And the use of the native player without the overlay and extra options is great as well!!!!
Yes that was indeed my intention. Ill fix the crash bug when there is no internet (stupid wp7 apis need 100 try catches).
Also Ill probably implement something like search on channel and add the possibility to read comments. The main focus is to get ALL videos supported.
Also I have no control over the smoothness of playback as it is handled by native wp7, could be a crappy encoded video. Or maybe a memory issue (restart might fix it?). So I cant really optimize on that regard.
I might add a pivot to move to the left for comments and related videos? Seems usefull I think. And perhaps allow one to click on the name of the publisher/channel so I can load up those videos.
Thanks for the positive and useful feedback!
Very nice, I never noticed that the videos were restricted (via metrotube or anything).
I also like how minimal this is, straight to the videos is great.

Make sure your phone is not connected to the pc as this will disturb smooth playback. It can be that the video is badly encoded or a memory issues. I pass the playback directly on to the wp7 media player.
Updated! Added some more features and some refinements. I think ill also implement the reading of comments, not sure if ill implement also commenting itself as that would require login etc which is quite some work.
Nice additions (authors, playlists by search). Simple but something I think a lot of users use a lot. Comments might be nice, seeing as the your UI design allows for it once you've selected a video (there's space for it). I know its your app but i really think you have something here and dare i say you could easily charge for this and make some money other than the ads. Although the ads are hardly noticeable due to the way you've implemented them. Videos load faster and smoother than any other app out there. They are right on par with the HTC Youtube app. I might be alone in this, but Im happy that you took out the "featured videos" that load when you start the app. I can search and be watching what I want before most other apps have even loaded. Stellar. I love the white background as well but might I suggest a black theme (might go nice with the metro dark theme if thats what a user is running).
Thanks
Yes I can get it into the mp without ads, Im only afraid I can not use these logos and name and ill have to use a non branded name than. Ill have to think about maybe an in app pay system to remove the add. But all this will come much later. Will still have to design a start page and implement comments.
Should i use a button to toggle the comments or a pivot?
i would recommend a pivot. That way it gives the user the option to look at them if they want. I would assume it will allow for a quicker load of the "play video" page but it will still leave the option available if the user wants. Also, a pivot will add to the already nicely implemented "metro" theme. To be perfectly honest, the ads are minimal and very non-invasive. I would have no problems if you just left them and Im sure most other people would agree. Of course, entering the marketplace etc. is something I can't speak to. Any plans for a dark theme.
dosnt seem to play age restricted videos and no log in option available is their a way around this?

No login implemented yet. Ill look into the age restricted stuff later. With unrestricted I mean whether users can watch vevo etc.
Also Ive not specifically looked into germany as germany may get different results (in the xmls it specifically states restricted DE... Can any german guy confirm whether VEVO returns a result?)
The login might come but that needs more work, the simplicity and availability to play desktop results were first. Its quickly built
@yeahyeahyeah1981: good news man, I implemented a pivot with comments and related videos its looking nice. I still have a tiny problem with losing the instance so ill have to implement some saving and loading but that will be done somewhere this week and that ill post the newer version
Dark theme no plans yet. But should not be too hard to implement, ill just need to cut out the logos and dont like that haha other than that its just binding to variables find and replace Black with {Binding ForeGroundColor} and same for white. But I also need to make settings etc.

iTunes 11 is awful

I use iTunes. Don't hate me. its the only apple product I use, and IMHO iTunes 10 was the best music player out there. Again, please no hate/flame, I know I'm spewing heresy here.
But iTunes 11... what can I say? I upgraded this morning and its awful. Truly terrible. I'm ready to wash my hands of the last apple product in my life, it I need to find something else.
And I have no idea what. I've tried Winamp, and its even worse. I've also tried Zune and windows media player, and they're both just as bad. iTunes 11 is, sadly, still the best music program I can find, and I hate it.
So, what do you guys recommend as far as PC music players go? I'm willing to try anything, even things off the beaten track.
If only PlayefPro would release a PC version. I'm in love with that app on android.
Have a look at MediaMonkey. I use it and it does all I need and a lot more as well. ID tags can be edited, artwork downloaded, changed, file names standardised, probably everything you can think of.
This is how I use iTunes . . .

And this is how posts get deleted.
New versions of iTunes always suck. I stopped upgrading a while back.
And the only reason I have an iPod is because it integrates with my car stereo.
Foobar2000 is hands down the best music player for PC, but if you're not an advanced user or don't have the patience to set it up right i wouldn't bother. That said, if you take the time to learn how to use it and discover all the GUI enhancements that are available you will definitely be rewarded for you patience.
Take a look through this thread to see the variety of ways that Foobar can be set up:

VLC can play music, too.
Or Mediaplayer Classic.
Mediamonkey is pretty decent.
MusicMatch Jukebox used to be good but it's been dead for years
I've stopped updating iTunes on version 9. It wouldn't recognize my iPod on older versions once I hooked it up to a newer one, or i'd have stayed on 7. -.- (The iPod was a gift and it's the only thing for my alarmdock, so I have no choice..)
I just use WMP10. If I want to do any IDtag editing, I do it myself through TagScanner (free!).
What are you looking for in a mediaplayer? Because there's a lot of them.

Mostly? A decent cd ripper/music file organizer/tag editor that provides a near-full-window grid of sortable album artwork and a decent search function.
something that looks roughly like:
i'll try out some of the ones you guys listed. i do prefer form before function (in this one scenario) because i use zero advanced features of itunes.
oh, and m4a support support is much desired as well.

Agreed, Foobar is excellent, but not for the average novice user.
looking through that foobar thread, i found an image of something fairly close to what i was looking for. certainly closer than most programs ive found.
i'll download it later - i got a new phone to hack, so i'm otherwise occupied ATM =D
I don't use ITunes for listening to music.
The only things it is used for is downloading a few podcasts onto the iPod and for putting music onto my iPod.

Haven't tried it for Windows, but its my preferred player/library manager on Linux.
i was encouraged to repost this in this thread, a problem i ran into with iTunes 11
Maybe someone can help me?
Hey, I updated to iTunes 11 and i had to realize, that my perfectly tagged Audiobooks are now out of order. I have them tagged with Disc# and Track#
The (expected) behaviour from iTunes 10 was to sort them this way (CD prior Track):
CD1 Track1
CD1 Track2
CD1 Track3
CD2 Track1
CD2 Track2
CD2 Track3
now on iTunes 11 on the new Popup they are sorted like this, which is obviously not the order Audiobooks are to be played (Track prior CD):
CD1 Track1
CD2 Track1
CD3 Track1
CD1 Track2
CD2 Track2
CD3 Track2
Can anyone help me out of this dilema? Also i couldn't find a way to enable the list or album view for Audiobooks, so i can't have them sort by individual fields there...

Can you rename them? All my audiobooks are just mp3's. Just name them D01T01, D01T02, D02T01, etc. At the front of the title.
Or just number them all Disc 1, and then keep counting, so CD2 becomes Disc 01 Track 04, etc.

i have a multi-GB collection here, most of which are bought directly from iTunes, so i'd expect them to work with the new iTunes without renaming 1000's of files, which would take ages...
Maybe there is an option to set sorting priorities i am missing?
There's an option in the settings to have iTunes auto-orgaize everything. I've never had problems like you're saying, but then again I've never had that checked. Perhaps that's why?-l
unchecked, and rechecked,
had no effect :crying:
