I dont understand why no one will help me. I asked numerous times for someone to help me in getting my internet connection setup again. I have installed Molski's last rom and now i can no longer get an internet connection. It might seem like a stupid ? to alot of people on here but i cant figure it out. And being totally ignored is pretty annoying. I have searched and cant figure out how to set it up. I have used Summiters roms in the past with no problem and now trying Molski's and Risidoro's i cant connect any more. If anyone can spare a second of there time to help out someone who is learnig it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Please disregard my rudeness. my phone has gotten me very annoyed the last couple days and i realize the above post is no way to get help. Please read 3 posts down for more info. Thanks

Who is your Carrier? Cingular? T-Mobile? Orange?

I don't understand why you helped no one, so far. Many have asked the same question numerous times and of all the 20 posts you've got so far, which of those are answers to questions? None? Tell me why?

First of all, state your problem! What exactly is is that isn't working. Is it your GPRS connection? or are you trying to use your phone as a modem for a laptop? Are you having problems with wifi? What carrier are you using, what country? edge?
And if you actually want help, change the topic and I'd suggest that you change your first post as well.
And for the record I'd just want to say that no one is obligated to help you, ask politly next time...
Aggrivation
Ok, I have tried asking politely. Thats why i got upset and started this thread.
Hanmin.. I have not helped anyone for two reasons...no one has asked, and i dont like to just give answers if im not sure there the CORRECT answers. My 20 posts are mostly me asking questions to learn how to use this phone, if i was a master like alot of the people on this board i would gladly be of assistance...
Nomad...My problem is yes, my gprs connection, I cannot connect. It seems that Molski and Risidoro's roms dont have the settings in them already like Summiters' do. I live in the U.S. and have Cingular. My wifi works, i think, if i turn it on, it searches and finds networks, but i can never get it to connect to one. I have kinda given up on that until i can learn how to use it. Also, i know no one is obligated to help. I was just looking for someone to maybe lead me to a post where i can read and figure it out. I have searched numerous times but cannot find it on here. It seems that searching old posts is only good if you know what you are looking for exactly, otherwise pretty much every post turns up in the search results. Im sorry if ive come off impolite, its just from this phone being very aggravating. I dont have alot time to continuously keep up with the ever changing information associated with this phone. Im sure some on here would then say to not get involved with it then, but the roms that these guys put their valuable time into creating are awesome compared to what Cingular ships with. An i do appreciate that.
On another note..If someone would be interested in helping or guiding me in solving this and other issues i have with this phone so that i can become as good as some of the other fine peoples on this board i will make a generous donation. Scratch that, ill make the donation now, since i have already learned alot more than what i came to this board knowing... And once i feel more comfortable with knowledge i will most certainly help whenever possible.
Thanks all to have helped, and once again i apologize for my rudeness.
Shady
Have you tried this thread? it contains the needed settings.
Also, I know that the search function sucks. I usually use google "<topic> site:forum.xda-developers.com" it's a lot more accurate
Nomad,
Thanks, that helped alot. I actually saw that thread in my searches and somehow missed the cab. Boy talk about dumba$$...lol also, thanks for the google search info, is there anything that google isnt good for? Now if i could jsut figure out how to walk on water ill be all set =)
almost forgot, which is better, when you have the G icon by the signal level or the E. I always had the E with my other roms and i noticed that with molski's and Risidoro's its the G. I try searching , i think i remember reading about this before.
Shady
EDIT: Got it. searched google and found it out. Its a reg hack, i remebered after reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284970
Edge or GPRS
Basically I see no difference in performance. The "E" doesn't appear because Molski doesn't like it Some networks have edge, other don't. I'm sure that you have Edge, because of Molski not liking the letter E , you are shown an G
Okay, I'm just wondering if there is a setting somewhere that I'm not aware of and hopefully someone could point it out. When I am at home and the phone is connected to my home Network ( WiFi ) Pocket Internet Explorer works just fine. Now turn off WiFi, reverting back to 3G, and Pocket Internet Explorer doesn't function. Just loads blank pages continually. The reason for me thinking it's a setting somewhere is because I also have Opera, which works fine on both WiFi and 3G. So while PIE is oblivious to the World around it, Opera's singing along. LOL! Honestly I wouldn't really even care except I have the mod installed that allows PIE to transfer live video streams to TCPMP thus making YouTube and such work rather well on the device. If that worked in Opera, PIE would never be used on my device. Hehe... So, anyway there's my problem. I eagerly await ideas. Thanks!
No one huh?
Geesh, I hate when I find a problem the technical like crowd can't even answer. :\ That leaves ya with... Technical Support from the... MAN... And we ALL know just how extremely useful / helpful those folks are.
Keep in mind that some people don't LIVE on this forum.. (i do though..) and the members of this forum are from all across the world, so people are on at different times.
Your posts are 13min. apart. If everyone could get their solution within 15min i think people that help out on this site should be paid! but thats not the case...
now to solve your problem; Are you on AT&T? if so i'd recommend finding the disablehiddenproxy.cab and installing that. I had the same probelm and after disabling the proxy everything was back to normal.
if i remember the manual correctly, for wifi you want proxy's off...
for MediaNet you want the proxy on

Firstly, thank you. I will try that.
Secondly, please check the dates of my posts. I realize that people do not live here. And all help is appreciated. I waited 24hrs.. And, by the way, I don't get to live here either. It is sheer coincidence that I happened to check back pretty much 24hrs. later on the button. LOL! Well, pretty close for not really even paying attention to that anyway.
Thirdly...
And thirdly, that is precisely why we all love ya! Disabling the proxy corrected the issue. I think that my phone actually came with that active, I don't recall PIE ever working over 3G... Until now that is. I figured it was simple since, as I said, I have Opera on the device also and it didn't care. It worked no matter how the device was connected to the 'net. Anyway, thanks much!
Hello,
I have searched all over for an answer to my problem, and have not found anything of real relevance. I am using the AT&T Tilt with AT&T service.
I have just downloaded and installed the firmware at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556293 . I was hoping the software upon install would configure the data connection by itself upon initial startup. But alas, this did not happen. Is there any application that I can get that can configure my data connection for me?
You must not have searched in the proper area of all over.
Found this on the first try ..

First off, thank you. The setup wizard cab worked perfectly. But are you really sure that you need to be this degrading to an xda-developers n00b? Im pretty sure you knew you knew exactly what you were looking for, whereas I did not.
Again, thanks for the help!

Degrading would be me having you dress up like a woman that has been crying and have you beg me for the answer.
true, i did spell it out myself, (sort of). next time, i should look harder, and i am sorry i took time out of your day. What I do not intend to do, however, is take up even more of your time rambling on for two hours in this post and start an argument, by so doing destroying any dignity that either of us might have.
Just as a side note, I would not beg you for the answer. this is the Internet. I would simply search somewhere else online. Given that I have the choice of being degraded or searching somewhere else online, I dont think it is possible for you to degrade me.
Seriously, though, thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

what up yall! My ATT tilt died a few weeks ago (flex cable went bad, decided it was time to move on) so i got a G1 from my buddy that had a broken digitizer and LCD. ordered the parts online and got it put back together today. few questions though.... it seems that about the bottom 1/4 inch of my touch screen dosent respond....its brand new and the rest of it works fin...just the small strip that seems to not work. any ideas? also t mobile are assholes...i cant get them to unlock it but i will work on that one...im quite sure that answer is on here. Also...do i really need to get a data package or can i choose to keep my phone from constantly connecting and updating my gmail and other apps? thats the reason i continue to get HTC is because i think data plans are silly when everywhere in america has WiFI....i think thats all for now...and ive been a member on here for quite sometime but this android mess is totally different. lol. thank yall!
That 1/4" at the bottoms sounds like a bad digitizer. =/ *Most* likely not software. But you can check by flashing a new ROM and if its a software problem, the new ROM will override whatever was causing it not to work before.
You can get it unlocked for $20 from one of many unlocking websites, just google it. You can't get it free anywhere other than T-Mobile sorry to say.
You don't *need* a data package, I don't have one. There are applications that can disable your data connection except for when you need it (i.e. MMS). Or its a built-in widget with the Hero ROMs.
Unless you have a rooted ROM, you will be required to use your data to even use your phone for the first time as it requires you to sign in to your Google account, but doesn't give you the option to use WiFi. But honestly, I think this phone is crippled without a data connection even if you don't use it all the time, I'm currently waiting for my current plan to end to sign another 2-year contract with data. But its up to you, its certainly still usable with enough WiFi connection points.
darn....its not very fun to take apart...plus i have to wait even longer...im currently using an old school , non color green screen nokia probably digitizer and not some random flex cable along the lines? maybe the black one? i guess there wouldnt be any way to check without replacing. and im not real addicted to any apps or anything, just mainly want it as phone/organizer. im a studennt and have wi fi at the house and at school, and every bar i go to has wi fi so i think im covered =) just making sure i could regulate it so it dosent pull and jack my bill up. if i were to flash a new rom, wouldnt that unlock it....and can you still downgrade it to rc29 when you dont have a t mobile sim card....or rather is there any other way besides adp or should i just go ahead and learn how to use it...seems a bit intimidating to anything ive done on a WMo phone.
you can use apndroid to block data from being used accidentally
flashing a rom will not unlock the phone.
Yes you can downgrade to RC29 without a tmo card
mmmk. so rooting and flashing a HTC rom wouldnt do it? if im correct i either have to go through t-mobile or i have to pay like 20 bucks so i can use it with ATT?

You can root without data. Just activate wifi at RC29 when trying to sign in

Rooted ROMs usually have an option to just skip signing into Google don't they? I know they have that for Hero for sure, but I was pretty sure they implemented that to all the cupcake/Donut ROMs too no?
Basically, you'll only need to use that with RC29. And if you do need to sign in and don't wanna use the work around, I would just go ahead and use the data, its only a few KB of info I think (I've never actually measured it, but I very small amounts on my bill even if I do use it to sign in, also using ATT btw).

all ROM's based on adp (and most modded tmo) have the option to skip (at least im pretty sure)
He just wants to activate his phone without data, which would require him to get down to a root level rom (RC29)
after he logs in, he has the option to root or wait for the OTA update if he wants to stay stock
if he wants to try to use his data, he can try but it doesnt always work (it did for me at first, but not the next few times)
ok so update... believe it was a bad digitizer...sending it back monday for a replacement so a few more days without the new toy) I got it registered to my Gmail and everything, and im currently waiting on my unlock code, so that is squared away. now...new questions.....
1. can i not just uncheck the auto sync and all the other data options or do i have to run adp? to make sure it dosent stay connecting and updating my mail and apps?
2. what positives do i have with rooting/flashing? obviously most of you probably have gone that route, and i really enjoyed flashing with my Tilt and having the newest WinMo, but it was always at the cost of it either being buggy or somethings not working. i know this can be searched but i want the simple answer if yall dont mind
3. i also noticed that the only thing so far that dosent work, is the camera/camcorder. keep in mind i got this phone with a broken lcd/digi. so there may have been other problems but i couldnt tell untill the screen was replaced. could it be i put it back together and missed a cable/contact for the camera, or could it just be software related?
...for now i think thats all the problems i have stumbled across... Thanks you all you are making this very easy for a Android Newbie!

1. That would stop just contacts, calendar, and gmail not all of the other apps that come with the phone
2. Rooting is definitely worth it, loving my hero rom
3. If your on RC29 there is no camcorder, but if not then it's definitely a hardware issue, when I was on stock everything worked fine
Just FYI: the unlock code is phone specific, so if your getting a replacement, the unlock code wont work on that one if the code you got was for the other.
1) If you want to disable data, download and run APNDroid. You can turn off autosync if you want but data will still be used.
2) Rooting has lots of advantages. Themes, faster updates (i.e youll get the latest android before its released OTA) more modifications, use of certain apps such as Ad-Free, etc. cooked android roms are more stable than winmo cooked roms, and you have the option between stable/experimental
3) if it was stock, its probably a hardware error
so could i potenitally not have any apps and not have a data pull problem? or it seems as though just rooting and flashing to hero (would you all go hero, or newer 1.6 stock rom, or custom 1.6?) and ill be taking it back apart to send the bad digitzer back, so ill check the ol camera out. still is stock T-mobile 1.5....no rc29 or anything....yet...
if you still have 1.5, you can use the 1 click root
im using hero right now, but i switch between hero and cyan using the switchrom script
the g1 on stock android will still use data even if you have everything disabled. the only way to completely disable it is by changing the apns, or by disabling mobile data on a hero rom
what was wrong with the camera? give a little more detail so we know if it really is a hardware or software problem
Quiccest way to get unlock code..just tellem you are goin to the uk or sum and you are in need of unlocking since u will be on there network for a while.. Usually that works!
I know this topic is kind of frowned on, but bear with me, I'm doing it for legitimate purposes.
I just picked up a used sprint CDMA hero for use on my Carolina West plan. I rooted the new hero, put it in diag mode so that I could manipulate it with CDMA workshop 3.5 and Qxdm. My wife has a Carolina West Hero, so I was able to pull the PRL off of it and load it to my Sprint Hero. I also copied all of her NAM and EVDO settings to my phone and set my MSL/SPC to match Carolina West's, while giving it my phone #.
At this point, the phone's pretty much provisioned for Carolina West. So, I take it to one of their retail stores and they refuse to add the ESN to their database although its common practice with other carriers like Verizon.
I already have a data package for WAP browsing on my current phone, so I thought I'd try to change the ESN/MEID on the hero just to see if I could get it to work. Not hurting or defrauding anybody.
As I stated earlier, I used my licensed copy of CDMA workshop to change all of the EVDO, NAM, MSL, etc. However, it fails every time I try to change the ESN or MEID. I also read up on QXDA. As with CDMA workshop, I can read/change Nam stuff etc. but when I go to the Memory Viewer, all of the information on the screen is greyed out and the only address I can access is 0x00400000. And, since it returns all 0's for everything, I don't think it is actually reading the phone's memory.
Without discussing any legal implications, can someone please share ideas with me as to why CDMA Workshop and QXDA can't access the phone's memory even though they are supposed to be able to?
Thanks a million guys, I've learned more here so far than every other phone forum put together.
Only thing I can think of is restarting computer / phone...
I wouldn't be posting anything about this stuff on this site, I'm sure if you googled meid and hero you'd find a site that is a bit more accepting of this stuff.
I had already thought of that. I restarted the computer and both phones several times. For a "control group" I also tried to see if I could read the memory on the other Hero. Neither will allow it (in either CDMA workshop or QXDM).
Do you think flashing to an earlier software revision would do me any good? The sprint one is at 1.56.651.2 and pri 1.70_003. The other one is running something newer and proprietary (much like what I've read about Cellsouth, Bluegrass, Appalachian, Alaska, etc.).
Actually, this is the most accepting forum I've found so far. Thats why I chose this forum to ask. This is where I found most of my research on ESN/Meid.
If you have any suggestions of somewhere else to look/ask please post...or shoot me a PM.
I also did alot of reading at Howard Forums, Mobile Files, CDMA gurus, etc. but the information on the subject was really more clear and coherent here.
This forum is just more accepting because a mod hasn't come across your post yet. There are too many sections and most of the sections do not have individual mods for that section only. So it is a bit harder to police.
Anyway... you can try searching google for "esn repair" rather then "change esn". Unfortunately we can't help you any further. I only know the basics and not the details of the programs since I never had a reason to do that. There might be 1 or 2 people on these forums who could truly help you.
However, no one can post anything more because it would mean a ban and this thread deleted. Even though you have a good reason to do so, changing your esn is illegal and almost any forum out there will strictly get rid of posts that talk about it because they don't want to be shut down.
Its not like this is one of the thousands of posts out there asking "how do I change my esn". That information is fairly readily available.
Instead, if you read my post you'll see that I'm asking for some troubleshooting help to try to determine why my device isn't functioning properly and a spitballing of ideas as to how I can get it to work (ie...possibly rolling back to a previous software revision). I just filled in the backstory, because I felt it was pertinent information (showing that I can make writes to all areas of the device with various programs) just not the ESN/MEID.
Though, some would frown on what I'm trying to accomplish, I haven't asked for any illegal information...just troubleshooting help to figure out why my device isn't behaving properly. I don't know of any forum that would delete a post and ban somebody for asking for troubleshooting help, thats why the forum is here.

I know where you are coming from. All I was trying to say is that many forums will error on the side of caution and get rid of these threads.
I am not sure if there was a bunch of forums that got shut down that has brought the fear of god into the forum operators or what. I know forums get shut down all the time for warez(not just android) but I am not sure why they are so fearful about the ESN issue.
I think it is because a shutdown notice can be sent to the hosting site and the hosting site will blindly comply without looking into the issue. So the owner/operators of the forum have no say in the matter and can't argue their case.
Are you using a laptop? I had that problem, so used a desktop. Then after that it worked with the laptop. It is pretty simple thing to do.
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
Good idea aven. That is one of the things though that struck my mind late last night, although for a different reason. I was originally trying on a laptop running Win 7 Pro. Sometimes Win 7's a bastard about running programs designed for legacy communications. So, I installed the programs onto my desktop which is still on Win XP pro. Well, at least I was able to try QPST and QXDM on the desktop. My CDMA workshop license is tied to the laptop.
Anyway, I got the same errors on the desktop that I did the laptop.
And back to the idea I had about going back to a earlier software version, then attempting it...that didn't work too swimmingly either. In trying to research what earlier stock versions there were, I found that some Heroes came out with 1.29 and some with 1.56. Once a phone is at 1.56, it can never go back to 1.29. I don't know the history of this phone, if it came out with 1.29 or not, but either way its at 1.56 now. Either way, I reinstalled the stock 1.56 RUU which unrooted the phone. I haven't had time to root it again yet. But, with the stock 1.56 on, I still got the same errors when messing with the ESN/MEID.
I posted on another forum in the post that details this method asking if it can be confirmed that they are in fact changeable in 1.56. I also found some information about people using MTTY to log communications during this process. That is what I plan to do next.
Can anyone here confirm that they've seen it done on a Hero at 1.59?
Are you using the HTC usb data cord or a regular one? Could be worth looking into
Have you set up your ports in QPST Configuration? That solved my problems I think.

Yes, while using QXDM, QPST is configured properly. I can use it to write to NAM, EVDO, etc., just not ESN/MEID. If the port isn't connected in the QPST configuration, QXDM won't even behave like a phone is there.
In CDMA workshop, the program itself grabs the com port. I've forgotten before and left QPST server running while opening CDMA workshop. When that happens, QPST has the port locked so that other programs (apart from QXDM) can't access it. At that point I have to shut down QPST server before I can connect the port in CDMA workshop.
Actually, I ran into the same problem when I tried what I mentioned earlier. I tried to connect the port in MTTY to log the communications. But then, I wasn't able to use CDMA Workshop or QXDM because MTTY had the port locked.
Were you ever able to find a solution? Stuck here as well.
Lets just say programs like DFS and CDMA Workshop have come light years since this thread was started.
I need to find the new versions then. I was one of the first to do it after the 2.1 update that I could find. Now I'm wondering if I could do it to a newer HTC phone
