Is ActiveSync supposed to turn on and off randomly. Throughout the day it will be in my task manager without being connected. Is that normal?
Go to Settings>Phone>time zone tab, uncheck "automatic time zone change". That will stop the active sync auto launch as well as the occasional time jumps that have been reported.
thanks for your help, its hasnt come back yet.

Moving from the Touch to the Kaiser I love the 3G performance and the built-in GPS however there are two MAJOR issues I have that did not exist on the Touch and I cannot understand why the Kaiser with double the memory suffers from this.
1- Erratic scrolling in IE even after the page has loaded ?
2- My other problem (and this is more serios) is that the device does not turn off after the 1 min settings I set in the Power settings. I do not set the backlight dimming settings. I just want to phone to off itself after 1 min. It does not and if I forget to turn it of it just drains the Batt.
Again, the Touch did not have either of these flaws.
Any help with the power issue would be great.
Thanks in advance

There is a known issue that I and others have been reporting regarding scrolling in PIE. We have not yet identified a way to resolve this. However we have discovered that :
Opera Mini a java midlet based application works well and super fast. A great application for straightforward browsing. No frills but good viewing options and due to the way it works may reduce data charges for some and will certainly impress with its speed. (Freeware)
http://www.operamini.com/beta/
OR
Opera Mobile. Works well and fast, no scrolling issues and actually a pretty good full spec.browser. Not free but has a trial period to test it out. Iuse this and am very pleased with it.

As for your switch off problem, that I think is just a settings issue, but I'd need to check.

Regarding turning off after 1 minute.
I suggest you go back into:
Start?Settings>system>Power icon>advanced tab
Uncheck turn off device after 1 minute, click OK.
May be best to perform a soft reset.
Now go back and recheck "turn off device" after 1 minute
Perform a test to see if the one minute turn off is now working, and report back here on success or otherwise.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the feedback. I unchecked the power setting to turn off after 1 min, power cycled the phone and set it again. The phone does NOT power off.
I power cycled one more time and still i does not turn off.
Can you please verify this behavior ?
Nothing is checked in the backlight options and ONLY "Turn off device if not used for" 1 min is checked under "On battery power".
The phone never turns off on its own.
Thanks again,

I tested this before making the above post. I tried different time settings and it powered off at the set time. So I can only think that either some application is keeping it "alive" ie. not "idle" so the time trigger never starts or this is something that will only be cured with a hard reset.
If you have killed all running applications and it still will not auto sleep then hard reset may be the only option. If you have full backup facilities this should be a painless operation, though if you reinstall the backup and the problem is caused by an installed application then the problem will return on backup installation.

The only app that is running ( that I can see ) is Activesync due to push email. This was the case with the Touch so I do not think it is Activesync that is keeping the phone from turning off.
Thanks anyway for your efforts...
Found the problem!
Well it looks like Activesync (DirectPush) is the problem.
If I kill ActiveSync the phone turns itself off at the established timeout. If ActiveSync is running (with DirectPush active) it does not turn off. Again, on the Touch this was not the case so it is not proper behavior.
Any ideas or reg settings to correct this?
Thanks.

There may be, but I at least don't know them. There are reg keys that tell the device to suspend but keep an application running (sometimes known as "unattended mode". However we know yours does suspend when AS is not running. I just wonder whether there are any "sync" settings within your push mail client that may be running a sync too frequently.
Another, but more remote possibility is that when AS is active it may also be servicing other apps, like weather apps, time sync etc - so perhaps just worth checking there are no other less obvious apps running. AS can also rather stupidly attempt to sync with the PC even if you are not connected to it. So perhaps double check any AS settings.
Mike
I played with the ActiveSync settings and the only way the phone turns off while AS is running is if I disable DirectPush. On manual sync or periodic sync the phone turns off at the proper timeout.
Any idea where DirectPush settings are ?
Thanks
I've this same problem NOW, but I've working over a month with activesync and pushemail active without this issue!!!!! (My configuration was also "as items arrive")
The only thing I can say is that today i suddently saw my exchange settings had been dissapeared without doing anything, then I reconfigured the exchange setting again, and from that moment my kaiser does not suspend if "as items arrive" is selected!
I have the same problem with the phone not switching off, though on mine it doesn't matter whether direct push is on or off, it still won't power down.
Edit: Now that's typical. As soon as I submitted the above and started playing with it, it started working...
Hi there,
My wireless (wi-fi) on my TILT keeps automatically turning on after I do a soft reset. I turn the reboot the phone with wireless off, but when I reboot it, the wireless automatically turns on and starts looking for a connection.
This is depleting the electrons in my battery and is becoming very annoying.
Any ideas or solutions as to what may cause this and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance for the help.
it's one of the cabs you have installed, the comm manager if I'm not mistaken. I had that problem with one of installs as well. If you can't live with the comm mgr, learn to turn off wifi when you soft reset, otherwise wipe it clean and steer clear of crappy cabs. I'm sure there's a registry edit for it somewhere, but too lazy to dig.
Could you be more clear on this comms manager?
My phone seems to have it installed but i cannot uninstall it.. it came with the phone
I also notice my phone trying to connect to GPRS randomly with nothing set to update automatically etc
Its becoming a pain in the arse as i can cancel the connection 100 times and it will keep going and i have to power the phone off to stop it
I have the 6-button gray comm manager that lists Airplane Mode, Phone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Beam, and 3G. All the buttons are horizontal.
How can the comm manager be causing the problem though...please elaborate.
Thanks again.
if all fails you can try this solution:

post #4, not really recommended but its a fix
i leave my wifi on all the time(default settings- off on standby)
and i get about 15 hours with low-medium usage
I receive emails every 30 minutes on my Fuze. I would like to keep my phone volume on loud during the night (just incase I receive a call), but somehow mute or stop just the emails from coming in. Is there any program that can do this? thanks in advance
start/settings/sound¬ifacations , scroll down to email , and uncheck what you would like to uncheck .
or download g-profile from ageye , look it up on google . it works quite well
Another solution: I use Phone Weaver (SBSH) - SPB makes equivalent Phone Suite, but I like Weaver better...
My setup = My phone not only goes to vibrate mode whenever certain categorized appts happen in my calendar (meetings/Clients/gigs), but every night at midnight it turns to silent or vibrate, the push mail shuts off, bluetooth shuts off if its on. At 5 am, wifi turns on and SPB backup kicks in if AC plugged in and wirelessly backs up my whole phone to my desktop every day, then turns wifi off. Then in the morning, resume pushmail and volume full.
I rarely ever have to touch my volume settings unless im going to a movie or dinner or something. I never have to think about backing up/losing my backups on a lost/stolen storage card/phone.
I just checked G-Profile too cause I've never looked at it. It seems like it does mostly the same things as P Weaver. try all the trial versions, see what you like.
If you are using active sync, you can set the peak vs off-peak time so that off-peak is when you don't want to recieve email. Then set off-peak to sync Manualy.
use mortscript to set it up.

you can also simply turn off the push feature using comm manager. What I did was modify te options in comm manager using the app called Advanced Config. I removed the 3G control from comm manager and added the control for Push Email. At night, I simply turn off the push email and that way the phone still stays on to receive calls but email is no longer pushed.
After running Android for a couple of weeks on NAND, I've noticed a common problem among Myn's and Plemen's Android builds using the latest dzo's nbh files. I don't know if it is related to what I'm doing but the auto sync functionality of google (including gmail, calendar, and contacts) is very flaky and I get an odd reboot problem.
Since I usually use the phone as my primary wake up alarm in the morning, I never turn it off. Instead, before i go to bed, I put the phone into airplane mode and plug it in to charge. What I've noticed in the two weeks is that more often than not, the phone reboots itself sometime during the night. I noticed this because several times, the single plus double vibrate on startup wakes me up. Other times, I wake up and the screen is on (I've set it to never sleep when plugged in). It's not all that major as long as the alarm rings at the proper time.
Then, as I get ready to go to work, I turn airplane mode off. When I get to work I see that the phone says I have no email. I thought that was odd because I usually have a bunch by 9am. So I logged into gmail on the computer to find that I have 10 unread emails that all arrived while on my way to work (between 8:30am and 9am). So I went into the data sync options to check when it was last synced and it says 8:05am (the time I turned airplane mode off). So the next thing I did was send a test email to my gmail account. No notification after 2 minutes. So I decided to reboot the phone. After it got to the main screen I could see the sync icon on the notification bar and about 30 seconds later, all 10 emails plus my test email got to the phone.
I'm not sure what is causing this problem, but I have a feeling it has to do with airplane mode.
I'll do some more testing to see if I can come up with a consistent way of reproducing this problem.
Update...
I've just done a quick test and need some confirmation from others that this problem exists:
1. Turn airplane mode on.
2. Reset the phone by pressing stylus into reset hole.
3. Wait for it to boot up.
4. Turn airplane mode off.
At this point, I went to check the last sync time in the data sync settings. It should say a time close to when you booted up.
5. Now send a test email from your computer to your gmail account.
Your phone should never notify you of the new email.
6. Now reboot phone again using the stylus method and wait for phone to boot. Your emails should arrive on the phone automatically.
7. Now send another test email from your computer to your gmail account. You should be notified within a minute.
Hi,
When the phone is locked ( pressing down the button on the top of the phone) does the wifi still run in the background?
I'm thinking it is, because soon as I turn it back on the wifi icon is still displayed, meaning that it hasn't turned off.
Is that correct, and is there a way to have it automatically turn off ( like say the iphones) when the phone is locked?.
Thanks
You can set the WiFi sleep policy under wireless settings (advanced), if that helps
There isn't an option to turn it off when in sleep mode, just the following
after 15 mins
never when plugged in
never
Ok, then try settings profiles from the market, you can set that up to do exactly what you are wanting
I have that installed but I am having trouble getting it to turn off wifi when in standby mode.Would you know what to do?
Thanks
Set a new rule up with a condition set for 'screen status' off, and action set for WiFi off. Do another rule for screen status on, WiFi on. I think you may need to buy the full version to allow more than one profile.
There is no 'wifi off' option when i click on add action.
There's only
activate profile
run application
notify
pause
plugin defined.
Make a profile with WiFi set to off, then add an action to activate that profile. I'm doing this from memory so can't be exact with instructions, you need to experiment a bit, it is definately possible to do what you need.
Ok, I think I done it now. Thanks a lot for all your help.I appreciate it.
