NetMonitor (Cell Menu, Field test,...) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
I have used to have Nokia 3310 with Netmonitor function active and liked to do "BTS hunt" - searching for Tmobile BTS's in my surrounding. It was fun to estimate the direction the locked channel comes from, approaching the BTS and watching the TA coming down to zero and the signal intensity reaching -40 dBm - "it must be somewhere here!!!" )
Has already some talented programmer created an application for Kaiser doing the same job as the Nokia one - ability to monitor active cell, surrounding cells, their codes, signal intensities, TA (Time Advance - 1 unit equals about 0,5 km) and ability to lock certain channel to be able to locate it.
Actually, does the API support to get these informations from the hardware?

Netmonitor in T-Mobile MDA Vario III (German HTC Kaiser / Tyn II clone)
Hi,
at least in my new "T-Mobile MDA Vario III"
- a German T-Mobile-branded HTC Kaiser / Tyn II clone -
the netmonitor mode works like a charm
by just entering
*#*#364#*#*
into the phone application's called number field.
Usually this is one of the first things I look for
in all of my new phones, it's like hunting easter eggs.
IMHO this one is even better than the netmonitor mode
in my good old Nokia Communicator 9210i.
Bye, see you,

Ha! Seems like we share the same interests Unfortunately, Kaiser is that good monitoring device It has, however, netmonitor-like application in \Windows\FieldTest.exe, but it's far far from Nokia's netmonitor... I haven't also seen any kind of API to write such application.
Personally I use and recommend Nokia 6630, where you can install native netmonitor for GSM/UMTS network as well as CellTrack for BTS logging into text file.

Reitherm: would it be possible to post here a screenshot or a photo, for instance of screen with surrounding cells?

Hi there.
The HTC TyTN II is equipped with a Qualcomm chipset. Now it is our goal to access it's diagnostics port to retrieve signaling and status information about the current network like it is possible with other qualcomm phones. As there is already an application installed on the phone that shows this kind of information (FieldTest.exe, accessed via special keysequence *#*#364#*#*) we are confident to be able to get access to said interface. How is it possible to get access to this diagnostics port? Is there a special COM-port that has to be enabled or are specialized DLLs needed that have to be bought?
Do you have some ideas?
Cheers
Saimen

The sequence worked in my HTC TyTn II. I now see FIELD TEST APPLICATION start when i press the key sequence?
How is this software helpful?

That sequence is a bit hard to memorize, so I'd suggest to make a shortcut from \Windows\FieldText.exe -> \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\FieldTest.lnk, so you could run it as any other application through Start -> Programs

What i meant to ask is, How to read the data that is displayed on the screen? What does all this data signify? How is all this Data Helpful? Is there any site which explains all these fields?

in answer to the quesition of my screenshot, yes that is from the kaiser!

Using the phone's internal GPS on a pc

Is it possible to connect the phone with the usb cable and be able to use the internal gps on a pc?
Thanks
Simplest way is to have Garmin Nroute sw on your PC/laptop with Garmin mobile XT on your phone.
But if you have Garmin mobile XT on your phone, why do you want to tie it your PC? Get a BT GPS reciever and release your phone for other stuff!

thanks a lot, will try this.
If you can use Blue Tooth instead of USB, GPS2Blue works great.
I have a Tilt, and I use Delorme and Streets and Trips on my lap tops. The GPS locks on much faster than my USB GPS.
I love it!
Can I share gps kaiser and internet umts over bluetooth at same time on my laptop? BEcause, i want use Google earth with realtime gps.

This would probably work. Give it a try and let us know.
JerryCo: Any tips for GPS2Blue
GPS2Blue looks great! Thanks for the tip.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it working. I know I need to add a com port under the bluetooth settings on the Kaiser, but this option is not available given my existing partnerships with several PCs. I.e.. no option to add com port is available, only blank list.
Is there something I can do to make the com port available?
Can I configure without setting up a com port on the device?

Very cool functionality can be accomplished here. Using GPSgate from www.franson.com I have successfully setup the following.
A completely mobile solution.
PPC ---Bluetooth----LAPTOP---- INTERNET---www.gpsgate.com

GPS
|
DATA
www.gpsgate.com is a website that displays your current gps information.
***The PPC sends GPS and fowards internet to the LAPTOP which then sends the GPS information to a remote site, www.gpsgate.com***

Very good workaround. I was thinking at first, what is the point of this thread as you can have a GPS mapping program on your phone. Then I thought, not every location is covered by the GPS maps available..and, Google maps are free and cover virtually everywhere and look better on a PC/Laptop.
Great work guys!!

HTC Battery Drainage Bug (Possible Fix)

Hello,
This is my first attempt at .NET CF programming. It is in reference to this thread.
It attempts to cycle the power to the GPS hardware eight times (at 200ms intervals) by calling GPSOpenDevice() and GPSCloseDevice().
It also shows the raw information provided by GetSystemPowerStatusEx2() if you need to troubleshoot your battery.
I'm not sure that it works, but it attempts to do programmatically what is described in the thread link above.
Full source code is included. I think it is also a great tutorial VB.NET project for anyone wanting to learn how to read the power on their device.
Please let me know what you think, and if it even works towards being a workaround for the HTC/Qualcomm chip standby-power drain bug. If it does work, I'll improve it (add autorun/exit-after capability, systray, etc..)
To use this without dealing with VS2005/compiling/etc, just copy HQPowerFix.exe from the bin/Release folder (in the zip) to your device (anywhere) and run it from there.
Note: These images are from my development machine. They look different on the device:

Nice idea! But it seems would be useful to cycle gps state not a fixed amount of times, but based on result of battery drainage (if it's below the certain level, the fix was succeed and no need to cycle gps anymore).
Also it would be useful to create a "command-line mode", when the program is starting and doing the fix without user interference. When done, it makes possible to launch iGo and this program from one script file, to implement the fix automatically after exit from iGo.
I found the MSDN documentation on the SYSTEM_POWER_STATUS_EX2 structure:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa926903.aspx.
It seems I didn't properly implement this structure's usage in my code, so I am planning to fix it tonight when I get home from the office.
@Vladimyr: That's a great idea, I do plan on doing that if this program turns out to be worthwhile and actually do the GPS power-drain fix as intended. Once I figure out how to more accurately read the mV/mA metrics, I will start working on that.
I'm also now working on a front-end/back-end for controlling a Car PC from a Pocket PC.. I think an older iPaq is cheaper than a Lilliput touchscreen

Doesnt work but nice idea

Can't Setup my BB connect.

Ok. I have a BB pearl and an AT&T Tilt. My BB pearl is provisioned for unlimited everything. (Tethering, Blackberry, Internet). I work for AT&T so this is my company issued SIM. I downloaded the BB connect software on my Kaiser so I could switch out my SIM into my kaiser and just use the BB for making calls and SMS. It's obsolete compared to the TILT as in the things you can do with it. Personal Preference I guess. Here's my issue.
Here is a screenshot of my version of BB connect:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now I tried to get it to register with the BB network. I clicked on Suspend and then I clicked on it again to refresh and when I clicked on my H for HSPDA it said Blackberry and it had a timer next to it indicating it had been connected for so long. About 10 seconds later it disconnected and this is what I saw.
...................................................................................................
If I click on details I get this:
I checked my browser settings on my phone and disable the box for:
This network uses a proxy server.
I am able to access the internet, tried soft reset with stylus, and hard reset by pulling battery out. Same issue. I tried searching on google but only threads I find is how to get the BB Connect installed. There is no Troubleshooting section. I'd really appreciate it if you guys would be kind enough of looking at these screenshots and helping me. Until then I'll keep playing with it. (That's what she said).
Thanks guys
I also want to add that I will not be using this for a BES email. I want to be able to have my personal email pushed to my phone. I'm going to look around so I can find a way of getting BB messenger to work. I heard someone got it to work. I know it's possible because I know someone who has it working 100 percent on their T-Mobile version of Kaiser. I am provisioned for Blackberry Enterprise Feature even though I don't use it. So I should be straight.
I have fixed with this problem before. I had to call at&t and have them change a code on my account. I don’t know the exact terminology but, what they did is change a code on my account from blackberry to windows mobile blackberry. Then the mail flowed.
Ok I already stated I have all the correct provisioning on my account. I have a company SIM we are provisioned with everything. I can't even get it started to get email as you can see from the screenshots.
My apologies. I forgot to mention that there is a registry key that need to be modified for 6.1 roms. I can tell because you PIN number is still pending. See the following post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400020
There is a mistake in the registry key line. It should read:
HKLM/System/Version/AKU. Change the value of the AKU key to REG_SZ of 0.4.4
After this soft reset the device. It can take as long a 5 minutes toe get the pin number from the network. You can tell your good because you will see the BB (or what looks like 4 0's) in the system tray. You will also notice that you have received a pin number.
I have this setup working with the latest at&t 6.1 rom v3.55.502.1 and BBC V4.0.0.100
I just check my records. You will still have to re-provision you sim for windows mobile blackberry connect. Again I have made this upgrade before.

Ok I get all the way to Version (Mine says Versions). If I click on it. I don't have an AKU there. Would you mind providing a screenshot so I can manually add it.
You are correct it is versions. remember this only needs to be applied to Mobile 6.1. And you will need to re-provision from blackbery to windows mobile blackberry.
Ok my problem is solved. No need to re-provision anything since I already stated 2x that I was provisioned. This is what I did.
1. I went to the registry and modified AKU value,
2. I disabled my 3g connection and bought it down to E
3. Rebooted device.
4. Installed BB connect software via the phone.
5. Installed software
6. Soft reset
7. Went to the softare and did a register now
8. Got a pin!!
9. Logged into my Blackberry account online and update PIN and IMEI of my Kaiser so that it would xfer all my email accts to my Kaiser
10. Enabled 3g again.
11. Sat back and relaxed it works now.
Now I just have to figure out how to get BB Messenger to work for sending PIN messages as well. I know there has to be a way if you can read them why not be able to send them. Yadadamean?

This cab should add an icon to the start menu/programs folder.
EDIT 2:: Ive noticed this version (and others) dont have the clear memory option, shame :s
What does this version do better or differently from 1.1.1.0? You mentioned VGA support, but I am able to run the latter on my VGA screen without noticeable problems; what would I get from installing the new version?

From what ive seen i still prefer 1.1.1.0 because it has a "clear memory" function which will remove ALL ephiremis data and start from scratch (ruling out any QuickGPS data which is invalid), the functiosn the newer versions offer dont seem to be any different, perhaps split into seperate screens but thats about it.
Thanks for posting a fixed cab, mrvanx
I think HTC split off the memory clearing function to a seperate app in the newer builds, in one of the ROM's I was poking through I saw "ClearGPSData.exe" or something similar, i'll see if I can't dig it up.
BTW won't deleting \Windows\xtra.bin clear the QuickGPS data? Or do you mean the epheremis data stored in the GPS chipset's firmware?
Edit: here's the CleanGPSData.exe program - it communicates directly to the GPS0: port provided by the gpsdriver.dll rather than going through the gpsid_HTC.dll provided COM4: port as any other app would. On blackstone this is set to execute at every startup (which would explain why they removed it from HTC GPS Tool)
What is the chip that we should select for FUZE? is it Q7200?
Yes, Q7200.

Thanks Da_G
Thanks for posting the new cab per my request on your ROM thread. Best regards, Michael.
What exactly is this program doing?
After clicking Open Port, it keep running like crazy all these codes...
I was wonder if there is a GPS signal booster
They told me that QuickGPS suppose to help your GPS signal, but I don't see the different. Now you guys said this one is better than QuickGPS... what can it do?
QuickGPS and HTC GPS Tool serve different purposes.
QuickGPS connects to a network server to download up-to-date epheremis data based on the MCC-MNC of the network you are currently connected to. This data gets saved as \Windows\xtra.bin and when AGPS is active, it gets factored into the intial fix, to speed up TTFF (Time To First Fix)
HTC GPS Tool allows you to view raw NMEA data stream as provided by GPS Intermediate Driver, and also through various menus to view information on current location, DOP (Dilution Of Position, or somewhat like 'accuracy'), and a sky-view of the satellites the GPS unit is seeing. This is useful if your GPS program does not report such information, which most do not.
Bump for a new version, first post

no more GPS fix on JADE
Weird, after one month perfect usage of HTC Jade, I, first time utulised QuickGps funtion and downloaded sattelite data.
Unfortunatelly, the result, GPS fix no more able...
Do you think HTC GPS TOOL uphere resolves the problem on my JADE too?
does it turn on/off GPS for Touch Pro / Fuze?
OK, This new one works good on my HTC Touch Pro.
The old tool did crash after a few minutes (also odd behaviour with jumping satelites in satelite view).
This satelite view is good, only display is flashing, while refreshing the view.
Seems stable for longer periods.
More possibilities for other devices/gps chipsets.

The new version is really just an interim release that enables image caching for the movie posters and allows automatic updates to Cinemo. A message box will pop up to notify you when the new version is being installed.

Edit: Maybe for a future update you could query the "total $ gross" for each film on the list? Might be a cool addition.
Works well. One suggestion is to have a list of theaters that are within some range of your zip code. Many people go to neighboring zips to go to their preferred theaters.
I will be keeping an eye on this as it would be more convenient than loading up Fandango every time.

I would imagine that you do not have a data connection open or available. Can you hit the internet with your phone? Try disconnecting it from the computer if the USB cable is connected.

I was able to hit the internet and use other data connection apps fine. I did have it connected to the PC. Disconnected, no change. Cinemo wouldn't work, other apps would.
Did a soft reset, everything works fine. I guess there must have been something that didn't take or load completely until after the soft reset.
Great app, thanks for the work!
Nice App. Since I dont have data plan I guess I will have to check it when I am near a Wifi

+1 for the gps, works like a charm! I use flixter on my ipod touch, and this works just as well for locating movies and since both are very similiar in UI, its really nice to have the familiarity from one device to the other.
Just letting everyone know I have movie synopsis working on my test build. Look for a new update to Cinemo in the next 24-48 hours. It SHOULD automatically update itself when you run it. I will post letting you know when it should be available.
thanks for this app i would love to be able to watch the trailer. maybe you could link it with the youtube app
awesome app, been following it since the first thread. the only thing missing for me would be saving favorite theaters other than that this is perfect. it's helped me out a couple times, thanks!
looks like this is going to be a great app - I am in Canada and i cant seem to enter a Canadian postcode as it caters for zip codes only! I also tried the GPS and it found no cinemas in my area and im downtown Toronto!
Potential feature add: would be great if you could add a feature to be able to enter dvd titles and get it to check the ratings on imdb and metacritic!
Hey thanks for the great app!
Is there a way to add more theaters to the list?
I have to change my area to get different theaters and i much rather just have all the theaters within the area be displayed.
Vancouver, BC, canada working decently!
I agree with some of the others. There needs to be an option for more movie theatres both when viewing the actual movie times and in the theatres tab. Also, itd be nice to check times for other days in advance. Like being able to view the times for Thursday when it is still Monday. Other than that I think it looks really good. Until theres more theatres I am stuck using Live search
every time i change the zipcode the app shuts down with an error. also, sometimes when i open the app it shuts down with an error. tried it on my sprint diamond and touch pro with same results. when it does open without errors it works great though. is there an explanation why there are errors so often? i'd say i've received an error about 40% of the time.
thanks for making this, it's a great idea and very useful. it's much easier and faster than having to open a mobile browser or some other app. keep up the development!
great idea love the concept. would you be able to make this for wqvga devices?
thanks in advance
Nice App but I have been having issues. I am using Energy ROM 3.0. I am not sure if it is because of the 3.7 .Net that he is use or some other reason but I am recieveing a message "failed: \storage card\program files\Cinemo\Cinemo.exe"
I am not sure why I have started to get this. I have more then enough room on my SD card. I have used it in the past and liked the app. Would love to have it on my cell but I am not going to change roms.
So, basically can anyone confirm issues on install? does it have to do with the 3.7 .Net that is being used?
Thanks,
SoBBie
pretty cool app.
i think it would be nice if you could enter your user account information for fandango.com or movietickets.com. that way if you see the movie you want to go see, you can just tap a "buy now" button, and you are good to go. maybe it could pull the confirmation number as well or something.
