Just released: Brando Screen protectors

I just noticed that Brando has released screen protectors(Ultra Clear & anti glare) for the T-Mobile Ameo/Dopod U1000/HTC Advantage/HTC Athena.

Bought both of them($17 for the UltraClear and $15 for the Anti-Glare). they will be here in a week or so. I will post my findings after that.

Just ordered three anti-glare protectors from them. Can't wait to get them.

Also consider Martin Field Overlay Screen Protector if you want more choose, personally i prefer them than the Brando. But no doubt they are both very high standard.

Well, I bought the Martin Fields one. Couldn't really align it well as it's provided literally as a protector, nothing else, and I wasn't happy that despite wearing latex gloves, vacuuming the room, cleaning the screen etc... I got a speck of dust in it.
Oh well, removeable/washable, right? So I can remove it and get rid of the dust?
Don't know where they get distilled water from the tap, but it's not the UK. The protector is covered in smeary crap.
Unimpressed for the money. It's not like I haven't fitted screen protectors before. VERY frustrated about not being able to get a nice screen protector on my Ameo without bubbles/trapped dirt/throwing away $17.
I'll be including my experiences with the Martin Fields protector in my review of the Ameo in our magazine, I'm that (un)impressed with it. Normally I get review samples of this stuff, too - I'm especially annoyed by having bought it and basically being left with a bit of waste material.

I also had significant problems with an MF screen protector. My experiences are in this thread: Screen Protectors. I ended up buying two screen protectors from ebay that IMHO are about as good as you will get, for £3.99 each (I seem to recall). I got this one on first time, only one bubble (now gone) and no trapped dust.

you haven't fit the wrong side of the protector on have you? you are suppose to throw the side with the sticker away, and this is the same with any other protector, it takes times to get it perfect, but once you got it, there is 0% dust, 0% bubble, screen looks even better then before, and screen visible under sun as well.
I think you must have done something wrong, lots of people had done complete reviews on screen protector, Martin Field is one of the TOP one, so people already knows how good it is, and for people who had fit it correctly on their device, they know the fact as well. Putting your bad experience in the review won't really help, you are better off finding why it doesn't fit well, what have you done wrong, because it's not normal for you to get a bad fit on this screen protector.

I fitted it fine the first time aside from alignment. It's extremely difficult to align correctly due to the sunken nature of the Ameo screen, and it had slipped under the frame of the unit. However, this should not be an issue, because it's supposed to be removable and washable.
Which it simply isn't. I've attempted several instructions - wash under warm water, wash with light soap and rinse well... and the same problem, each time - it's impossible (unless you have clean-room conditions) to dry it afterwards.
So; yes - nice screen protector. Insufficient "support" for fitting it (nothing to help align or remove it, the WriteShield AG etc. from Pocket PC Techs for my iPaq came with wipes, little tools for removal which also help with alignment), and VERY expensive, and the claims of being reusable are highly suspect, IMO.
Because of the expense, I won't be replacing it, even if it is the best protector - I'll try another brand.

I guess most of the Martin Field User here didn't actually wash their screen protector, my Room is not particular clean, i have cat inside too, but i still manage to get it on perfect in one go, i think washing the screen protector is a very bad idea. And maybe it's just me, but i have try other screen protector, and I can get perfect fit on all of them, no dust, no bubble at all. There is surely some skills to this.

I applied mine while holding my 6 month baby girl and only got one bubble which went away by itself. My woman decided to let me hold her right when my new screen protector arrived and I didn't want to wait. Yes, i'm THAT impatient.
Been on my Advantage ever since and protecting it wonderfully. Only thing I don't like is the slight reflection on the non-reflective protector. I guess you're bound to have some reflecting going on as it's plastic, etc.

They think I might have had a faulty one, and are sending a replacement. So this is good - explains why I had trouble fitting it (though I still think I just got it under the edge of the screen or something), and at least I don't need to wash it.
They recommend the approaches I took to drying it, too, so I guess we just have very contaminated water here.
Update: New Martin Fields protector arrived today. Followed the same procedure to fit as before with one change: I made a sort of handle of tape to lower it onto the screen with, thus being ABSOLUTELY sure it wasn't going to slide or catch on the frame.
Perfect result. Couple of microscopic dust specks (inevitable, I guess I must live in a dusty house despite cleaning constantly, it seems!) but no bubbles, misaligned edges or anything. I'm 80% sure that the original was faulty, but not 100% sure.

Proporta Screen Protector
I have had a good result with the Proporta screen protectors, much better than with the Martin Field screen protector which in my opinion was too thick and reduced the touchscreen sensitivity too much. They cost £5 each, and when I placed my order I was encouraged to pass on a 10% discount voucher code, so I am doing so: PASSITON10.
A pressurised air duster and latex finger cots meant no dust bubbles, and the screen looks great with no reflection.

Just thought I'd ad my two pennies worth!
I've been using Brando's screen protectors for years now. Helped him get right sizes for the old A920/A925 models. Then had two for my A1000's (plus a case too that was very good), and got one for my XDA Exec...
They apply flawlessly, are easy to remove, and you really can wash then too. My A925 one (yes I STILL have that brick in the drawer!) will still come off and go back on again after 3 years!
I'm gonna order one for my Ameo too - i like the non-reflective i must admit as not only does it stop reflections but it also makes the surface of the screen seem more 'silky' when using the stylus.

My review on invsibleSHIELD and zaGGskin

Hey everyone,
I recently purchases a custom zagg skin and the invsibleSHIELD ,
The zaggskin is easy to put on the back of your HD2 , its a little bit smaller, but that makes the process of putting it on easier (It took me like 2 min?),
Before the invsibleSHIELD I tried various screen-protectors , but I always had bubbles or dust underneath them.
With the invsibleSHIELD I just followed instructions , and volla , no airbubles, no dust , its makes the screen even brighter.
One negative point about it, its pricey , i ordered mine during Memorial Day (50 percent off),

How can a cover make the screen brighter? Are these skins polarized or something? I'm curious.

All this is rubbish, I understand the need for a big silicon or hard cover to protect your phone from drops but what is the point of the invisible shield when you cant scratch the phone anyway. There is no way it can make the screen brighter, or make you see better in the sun.
Some screen protector companies even claimed that only the person looking right at the device can see the screen, so therefore if someone was trying to peak over to see what you are doing they couldn't, well I ordered that and obviously it is not true not even slightly dimmed from the sides. so don't believe everything they say.

i wont take the chance of scratching my screen even if its impossible
invisible shield is not only on the front but on the back too.
its less sensitive for oily fingerprints - maybe that is why it looks a little bit brighter than without. before i had it, it was difficult to see in sunlight and now its better.
plus, the device wont slip of your hand, again do to the back cover.
so, i recommend invisible shield sincerely

My zagg sheild pretty much rendered my HD2 useless. The screen was really desensitized way too much. I'm not surprised...the zagg shield is so thick and durable that if I didn't have to "touch use" my screen, it would have been perfect. I ended up tearing of the $20+ protector and discarding it...

No problems here, and the screen protector isn't that thick, its just even thick like any other screen protector ,

The HD2 screen can be scratched, there are examples of it on this forum, just search.
Spending $10-20 on a quality screen protector is probably the cheapest insurance you could get to protect your screen if/when you scratch the protector and the scratch becomes unbearable, spend $10-20 on a new one
Though Ive not seen one before for mobile phones, there are privacy screens for laptop/desktop monitors. These screens significantly blur the image unless you are directly in front of the screen, if you tilt the screen more than 10degrees or so the screen will blur. These are used a lot in medical/financial institutions, sensitive departments within companies like HR. Ive seen these appearing on ATMs now too
I will agree there is no protector that will make your screen "brighter" that's just about impossible, anything put over the screen is actually going to attenuate any light coming though it, though it may not be perceivable. Certain protectors may eliminate screen glare, making the screen easier to see in certain lighting conditions

ohhh yeah, believe me the screen CAN be scratched! got two very nice ones to prove it. lol

Well about the brighter , i have the the shield now for a week, the screen looks better because there are no fingerprints on the screen , further its scrolls smoother

Sorry but I'd stay clear from Zagg's Invisible Shiled as it is not really effective nor fully stand their claim "as advertised".
After 3-4 months of use (in tropical countries or desert areas), the sands/dirts snug into the linings, then started to peel off little by little.
Had this product on my Fuze and then my Topaz a while back, not very happy about it.
The only good things about the product is (1)fancy retail packaging, and (2)their screen protector. Sorry.

This cover is useless. I removed it after a couple of hours. What's the use of having a screen protector that doesn't cover the whole screen? Apart from the fact that it makes the screen look ugly.

It needs to sit for at least 12 or more hours to let the solution and bubbles disappear. If you had it on for a couple of hours and not days, then you did not read the instructions If applied properly you should not see it. If it looks ugly, it was not done properly or you did not let it cure long enough before using the device.
I have noticed that not all of the plastic used with Zagg products seem to be the same. I have applied one on my Tilt2 (aka. Touch Pro 2) and it did not feel like the texture of an "orange peal" like I have seen written in some reviews. I no longer have the Invisa Shield on the screen as it started to come up on the edges by the chrome phone edging causing lint, dust, etc. to collect under. I also noticed it turn a slight yellow. The colour change was odd as I don't smoke or hang out with smokers. It could be from rubbing against the lining of my leather case I kept it in (although it has a black lining).
At my work we have a Zagg promo for Apple iPads and this is where I have come across the "orange peal" texture on a few of the installs. I don't think it is due to improper install as we always use the same solution and method of install for each one.
In short:
the pros: it protects well against scratches and minimizes the look of finger prints
the cons: could gain a yellow tinge after several months, not easy to remove dust/dirt if it gets under edges, and not easy to apply first time around for most.
My advice for capacitive screens is to not spend lots on a screen protector. The cheep vinyl protectors may not look as good but will work just as well. Remember: all capacitive screens are made of glass which will not scratch under normal use. If you keep your phone in your pocket, the chances for scratching will increase as sand or tiny bits of gravel can collect in the lining and rub against the screen. Even keys can scratch if enough pressure is applied. For those who saw the YouTube HD2 scratch test, did you see how much pressure was applied to the keys, knife, and scissors? Not enough to scratch it, add enough and it will...

How many times there have to be said that this capacitive screen is not made from GLASS, there are enough people one the web which HD2 got scratched, believe they will scratch

I have the full body zagg skin. Gotta say it's great. Simple to apply and really keeps the device from getting scratched. Even protects the corner. Don't get what the complaint above was about. It covers the screen so wtf are you talking about? Only thing I wish they'd fix is that you can't apply a skin or case over it. If you do it'll get stuck to it unless it's like a cloth case or something. Hope they fix that issue one day. Still not bad, plus I did like the OP and ordered on Memorial Day for like 12 dollars.

Glue softens
I have to say I was happy for around 5 months - until it started to get warmer. Then the glue started to soften and smear out from under the shield. It made the screen look a bit of a mess and ultimatly the corners started to flap about because all of the glue had gone. Contacted Zagg customer support and they admitted this can happen when warm and humid. They suggested I use their replacement service but why should I pay around 6€ for postage in both directions if as soon as it gets warm it will be a mess again. Not very impressed. I'll stick to the electrostatic screen shields in the future. Can anybody recommend one?

[Q] Did anyone get the anti glare screen protectors?

I was thinking about getting one but at 17 bucks I was hesitant. Does it actually make a difference? I'd only want it if it makes reading in sunlight pretty bearable.

The display model in the store by me had one on.
It looked like it did a good job of cutting down the glare- and would be good for reading outside.
I bought one but haven't put it on yet...

Bought the screen protectors. They work well, cut down a lot of the glare, not just from outside light but inadvertent glare from other light sources as well. Use some windex, just a few drops on the screen itself and a few on the sticky side and it goes on very easy, bubbles are easy to get out. Let it sit over night to cure and you should be happy with it. BTW there wasn't an alternative at the time, as soon as stealthguards comes out with theirs I will buy that one.

Same here, I bought the one at Barnes and Noble and it has been working great. I actually read 10-15 pages outside yesterday in the sunlight with lots of snow reflecting light. I had the brightness up all the way but I could read everything just fine

Picked them up also. It does a pretty good job cutting down the glare and lessing the finger prints on the screen.
Also just an FYI: B&N will install it for you at no charge when you buy it. If they mess up the installation they will replace the protectors (there are 2 in each pack), at least that is what I was told by the employee who put mine on.

Have the B&N anti glare protector. Makes the screen a tiny bit darker & on solid white screen I see a very slight effect on the quality. It's a slight sparkle effect, but I have to emphasize slight. hat's with brightness almost at min. Reminds me of the Pandigital Novel screen, but not as severe. That said, I am leaving mine on for protection & because I like the more slippery feel compared to a naked screen. BTW Not all protectors have the same feel. I had a Zagg IS protector on my phone & it had a more rubbery, sticky feel. Not very conducive to finger sliding. The B&N feels much harder.

i have them as well. if you don't prefer a matte type finish, don't get it. but it does cut down on glare.

I bought a $6 one on ebay and it blows. I'm sure it is partly my fault for not putting it on right. Anyway, will probably suck it up and go to B&N and have them put it on.

Quick question about the B&N Anti glare screens - others i have used, really blur the screen; do the B&N ones have any major loss of sharpness? With this beautiful screen, i would love to protect it without hindering it..

Unfortunately that's the nature of anti-glare. For me it's just as sharp. The decrease is in colour vibrancy.

I usually get these protectors on flea-bay but i caved in and bought it @ the store & had them install it as well... Best $16 i've spent.. . i still have one left over form the 2 pack...

You also get a nice little black microfibre cloth with an 'n' logo on it....

I went to B&N today and picked up the Anti Glare and the Easel case. I just applied it today and I'm really happy with the application. I normally suck so much with screen protectors and I always apply them diagonally for some reason. But this time it went on right as rain cept for a few rather tiny hairs that I assume are from my dog XD
The matte effect keeps the screen much cleaner and it's really not bad at all. I personally prefer matte over glossy on a device that I'm not doing any image editting so a total A+ buy for me.
So far though seeing as I got the Nook Color by returning a gift and then paying 20 bucks. I've spent about 76 dollars for this NC. 16 for the Screen protector, 40 for the case and the original 20, the accessories are rather steep... I have a feeling that this was B&N's business model though XD

I'll probably pick them up next week when I'm back at school (My major buildings is connected to a b&n)

I wasa sceptic about the screen protector b hut itg was worth every penny just to get rid of the finger prints on the screen. I thought thatI would give up on the nook but the anti glare j protector has me soldI agree Best $16 dollarso have ever spent on an accessory.

In1 Nano Shield review

On to the review:
My phone had been rocking the stock factory installed screen protector. I ripped it off a couple days ago because i was tired of wiping fingerprints off it. I would have been perfectly happy leaving the screen naked if it weren't for the fact that I almost dropped my phone almost immediately after I took the first protector off. So here we are.
Application was as easy as you'd expect. Use the included stickers as hinges, peel tab A, drop into place, peel tab B. In spite of all my care and caution, I still ended up with a weird little formation of tiny bubbles in one little area, but it's not really obvious unless the screen is off. They ended up going away after a day or two. As this isn't tempered glass there is no dot matrix and it has full adhesion. Best of all, no damn rainbow in the middle of the screen.*
The in1 Nano Shield is smaller than the factory installed screen protector. It doesn't cover the entire width of the screen. You know the couple millimeters that get covered by the black border of the new curved Oneplus TGP? Thats about the same bit left completely uncovered by this product. Lengthwise it has cutouts for the fingerprint sensor, camera and earpiece. As such this should work with any and every case.
Slightly skinny size notwithstanding, I'm otherwise impressed with the overall look and feel. It's no tempered glass, but it feels a lot better than any other plastic screen protector I've had on previous phones. Colors are nice and vivid, glare under bright light is about the same as the naked gorilla glass.
I'm not sure what else there is to say about this particular product. I can't really judge if it's worth the money since it's real value is supposed to be in its resilience. While it certainly feels resilient, I'm not about to perform any drop or scratch tests on it. If I ever do accidentally drop it, or if it ever gets hit with a ball-peen hammer, ill be sure to update with the results. In the meantime the hunt for a quality edge to edge protector goes on.

Lol, yeah. Those are my pictures from my review.

Following up - i took this off today and put on tye Orzly pro-fit. I just couldn't reconcile the fact that it left a few mm of the display completely uncovered. The In1 isn't worth the money. If they dropped the price, maybe it would be... But $20 US is too much.

I've tried plastic, wet install, and glass..... Glass was the best in terms of clarity but much more of a finger print magnet than the original glass underneath. And more reflective... The wet install one showed the spent marks.. At this rate I'll spend more on screen protectors than a replacement screen.... Please send your recommendations. Thanks

Feel your pain. I've done all what you have except for trying the glass ones.
Here is my experience. Get wet applied plastic one that is harder than the usual wet applied ones. A person on another thread recommend a Walmart Onn brand , I used it and it didn't leave S Pen marks at all. However, it was a ***** to fit correctly, so I being OCD I removed it and went back to the usual wet applied one again that does leave S Pen marks.
I believe Tech21 makes a screen protector similar in characteristics as the Walmart ONN one . Ain't tried that yet. But I can tell you that if the the Walmart ONN screen protector was applied correctly then I'd still be a fan.

So your criteria would be: best protection available without fingerprints, reflections, or s-pen marks? Might be tough without compromising a bit on one of those aspects. I've tried 2 cheap glass ones that I took off immediately, the Spigen film protectors that leave s-pen marks, and the Whitestone Dome which which was best for me of the bunch (no s-pen marks of course, and no fingerprint issues so far. Haven't paid attention to reflection issues as of yet). The new Zagg glass looks promising too...ymmv

I like Skinomi. You get some s pen marks but they go away overnight. I use the spen alot too, it's my preferred way to interact with the screen.

Go naked and live with it. I have been there, where you say to be and feel your pain. I just gave up and live with it. In case I really manage to break or badly scratch it, I will have to get a new one or live with it. All is better than the smudgy protectors giving a bad feeling to the touch and a bad view.

I'm so close to doing that but I live by the beach worried about scratches more than dropping it..

Beach and sand indeed is an issue. I do not live on the beach but was there last summer (S8+, no pen, easier situation) and was so glad to have a film protector on it.
Bite the bullet and get a Whitestone dome?

If I may offer an alternative suggestion? I did not even want to risk the screen protector lottery on this phone, so I took a different approach.
I have used a case with a built-in screen protector. I feel it gives me the best of both worlds; ultimate protection from drops and screen damage when out and about, and in a couple of seconds (when at home and the soft safety of my sofa), it can be out of its case and back to a slippery naked unblemished masterpiece.

Cons:
Minor reduction in finger sensitivity at the edges.
Adds significant bulk, especially in width making one-handed use impractical
Screen protector picks up scratches after a few months
Wearing polarised sunglasses makes screen hard to see (rainbow effect)
Be certain inside of screen cover is clear of grit before fitting
Pros:
Zero reduction in S Pen sensitivity.
Phone is tank-like. Has survived drops onto solid concrete no problem.
Screen protector can be popped out and used just as case if desired.
Dust caps for charging and headphone sockets
Easy to take off and have naked phone
It all balances out IMO. It might not be a perfect solution, but it is mine and I am happy with it.

I would advise against it, especially in a sandy environment. It WILL find a way in and then have a party with your screen. Also, in my personal opinion, this is way too bulky.
Personally, I am using a pitaka case. I am also having a thin, blank film on the back because ofscrarch protecting the back.

i'm using the official one for S8+ and it's very good, the s-pen does not leave any mark

I have used all types and found my favorite to be the tech21. No sensitivity issues, screen is clear, no spen marks, and decent with dealing with fingerprints. I couldn't use another after using this one.

Wouldn't it be just nice if Samsung offered a factory glass screen protector as an option when buying these devices. I'm sure they are aware of customers concerns - surely they have the technology to be able to do this, albeit probably not financially viable hence no go.
