I installed the 2.23ROW Eng on my Treo 750 yesterday. I shut down the computer at the point where the installer says to make sure you complete the list of tasks before hitting continue. I figured it was just an unnecessary step, as WM6 was on the phone. I know now that another part of the phone does not get updated unless this happens.
Now, I'm stuck without a way to finish the flash. ActiveSync won't connect, so I can't reflash it. The only thing I can think of is to do the SD card method, but I don't have an SD reader on me, and I can't freaking get ActiveSync to connect so I can't copy it over that way!!
Can someone help me out? Oh, and I already disabled the "Enable advanced network functionality". That didn't help. The phone works fine and all, but I cannot customize it with cabs at this point.
R U sure you can't connect at all - or is it just not finding your user?
When I upgraded my 750 (using the SDCard method), somehow it created a new/different user for me on the phone.
My "workaround" was to get the phone and my ActiveSync to both use the same user.
More details please...
No, it absolutely would not connect. I ended up just using the flash card method to get it fixed. Then, I was able to reconnect and get the full 2.23ROW installed. Everything seems to be working just fine now.
I do have a question, though. The phone is quite different than it was as an AT&T phone. For one, the power button does not make it sleep. In fact, I can find no quick way to get the screen to turn dark. If I put it down for a minute, it'll shut off. Any suggestions?
Also, what would you recommend for this phone? I used it for a while until I got my Tilt, but I pretty much left it stock. I've done just about everything there is to do to the Tilt, but so far I've only installed the HTC Home plugin for the Treo.
What are some other good upgrades?

Is there still a "Dial Lookup" option in the Today settings? That has to be checked for the power button to work correctly. The HTC Home plugin did that to mine as well... and it's fairly well known.

Hi. Would you mind telling me what your Software Version says. I upgraded using the SD Method, and My Version still reads 1.13-ATT.
Thanks

That worked, but it looks horrible. The HTC plug in leaves room for one item below it, and that "Dial lookup" thing takes two, so there is a crappy little scroll thing there.

The SD method does not load the entire update. I had to the exe method with the payloads.xml file, then follow through where it applies the Palm tweaks to get it to work right.
I think I figured it out... is that the "hidelogo" cab I've seen floating around? I'll try that now.
Geez, it works... but now the phone is stuck in a rebooting loop. It's only up and running for a few seconds, then it soft resets.

Sorry. If I was around before I would have told you about that hidelogo thing. I think you may have to reflash your phone again to get around the rebooting. Search around the forums.
When I ran into the same thing, I removed the HTC Menu thing and went for SPB Menu instead, even though I lose the nice clock.
Crap. Now it's doing it again.... this time, on two different computers. The AS icon turns green, says connecting, sits like that for a minute, then returns an error asking if I wanna run the ActiveSync troubleshooter...
Ok so i was updating rom from 1.5 something to the new 1.63. However, my touch screen is broke, and now i cant update because i cant tap the screen. So its stuck at windows mobile center setup. For the time being I switched my sim to older phone. When i put my sim back into the Tilt it goes to the same screen after the G3. Im pretty sure that after i get my screen fixed, it will work, im just wondering if this could cause long term damage i.e. file corruption or something similar?
It seems that your ROM upgrade happened successfully, and you just can't finish the phone setup process (like stylus calibration, time, etc.)?
If that's the case then you should be fine once you get your screen fixed. the state your phone is in now is a fully flashed state.
Also, it isn't clear if you were upgrading an official ROM or if you had Hard-SPL installed to unlock your CID. If you have Hard-SPL it is pretty difficult to mess up the flashing process as you can always get back to the bootloader and try again. It's not impossible to brick it however as some have unfortunately found out.

you should be able to just force the device to lose power, change the screen when you can and bootup and it should load back to the initial setup screen
You can try some of these suggestions I found in other threads. I've never tried them on the Kaiser though it shouldn't hurt anything:
_____________________________________
connect your ppc to AS then may be 2 different ways
1. install SOTI Pocket Controller-Professional
or
1. open device via as and seek file WELCOME.NOT
2. create empty file with same name
3.overwrite existing file with empty file

You can also try a program called Remote Screen Alignment

Okay, ive seriously tried about every possible thing on here to get my stupid phone to work but heres my situation.
The ATT Tilt i have was working great up until a couple months ago. At one point it just shut off and then went straight to the RGB screen with
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.56.000
CPLD-8
and "serial" on the bottom
Some of you might say "download HardSPL " or whatever and flash from the computer. Problem is I dont have ANY of the software or hardware that came with the phone. All i have is the phone and its charger. Thats it.
Ive tried flashing through the SD card, and it goes to the loading screen. I've used Dutty's, HyperDragon, and the original ROM as a test base. Hyper and Dutty's i renamed the RUU.nbh to KAISIMG.nbh and it goes to "Loading" and thats it. Ive even tried naming it KAISDIAG.nbh and still nothing. Stays there for a while but doesnt go anywhere. I dont know how long exactly its supposed to take to load the damn thing but every post ive seen makes me think that its just "It loads, flashes and you're done"
The furthest i got was with the original ROM i downloaded that was shipped with the phone. Not sure whether or not the version was correct but then again i have no idea what vers. my phone is or where to find the rom that works with it. Anyways, i used the shipped rom, named it KAISIMG.nbh loaded it, said Checking, then says "Not Allow" with some numbers n **** on the top (0028002), then resets back to the boot screen.
No, its not named KAISIMG.nbh.nbh im sure of it.
Its not a kingston sd or none of that.
Ive formatted, used fat32. (however, i cant make it allocate to 512. windows gives it a "default" allocation size which is unknown to me and i cant change it)
Whats wrong with this stupid phone.
Help me please.
ps. Ive searched the archives frivolously and havent really found anything that completely answers my question.
I solved my own problem.
The file i downloaded called "Tilt_RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_3.57.502.2_radio_sign_25.88.40.05_1.65.21.18_Ship.exe"
Fixed it.
Well sorta.
Since it was an exe i knew i couldnt use it, so i opened the whole thing with winrar, removed the RUU file, renamed it to KAISIMG.nbh and it worked fine!
Well thanks for all the good info throughout the site though. a MAJOR help for someone who thought their $600 phone took a **** on them.

Only problem is you still have your original 1.56 SPL but now have a WM 6.1 ROM so don't expect plain sailing until you properly update it fully (or have it reverted back to a full WM 6.0 installation).

Heres the software you can download, its all you really need.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync45.mspx
Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is a new software update release for Windows Mobile powered devices that provides a great synchronization experience with Windows-powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook.
Note: Microsoft ActiveSync works only with Windows XP SP3 or earlier. If you have Windows Vista, your synchronization settings will be managed through the Windows Mobile Device Center. Windows Mobile Device Center is available through the Windows Mobile Device Center page.
Supported features
ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Microsoft Windows-powered PC and Windows Mobile powered device and allows you to synchronize Microsoft Outlook information, Microsoft Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications to and from your device.

Doesnt work for me. I DONT have hardSPL on my phone already, PLUS, i dont have the cables n things to flash it on my computer. I just want it to work normally!
Did you even read my post?
The screen STAYS on the tri-colored screen. Once i turn the phone on, it goes straight to it, and stays like that. I cant even power it off. I have to take the battery out. Soft Reset, just does that; Resets. Ive even managed to get a nbh. file that reflashes it to the original rom. Once prompted for the power button to reset, i press it and it goes right back into the boot screen.
I need a way to COMPLETELY redo my phone through SD.

Uh, don't tell us you don't have a standard mini USB cable anywhere... you get one with pretty much any computer device you'd buy. You don't need anything more. As said, do an effort or find your way yourself.
So, I plugged my Kaiser (Tilt) into my computer the other day to charge it, and the next morning when I unplugged it, I noticed it was locked up. No biggie, I soft-reset it, and it came directly back to the bootloader (right before the bootloader shows is a white screen, that says "Loading image... No image found!", that flashes for a fraction of a second.
If I plug it into my computer at this point, Windows says the USB device has malfunctioned and it doesn't recognize it. I can't flash it ("connection error"), and it wouldn't hard reset.
Then it kinda came back to life, kinda. Suddenly it'll boot into WM. Windows still doesn't recognize it, but I used JumpSPL to get it into a bootloader, and tried to install a HardSPL on it so I could flash a new ROM (to this point it's been stock-only because it belongs to the company I work for). The HardSPL flash failed partway through, and then it was stuck in bootloader for real. At that point I tried flashing a stock ROM, and it kept failing at different points, never getting more than about halfway through.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or, do you want to buy it? At this point it's mine (company doesn't want it back), so I'm willing to experiment freely with it. Right up until my Touch Pro 2 comes in and I lose interest
*** UPDATE ***
So after writing this, just for kicks, I decided to give re-flashing the original ROM one more shot (it's been off and untouched now for several days at this point) and the flash succeeded. We'll see where it goes from here
Good luck with your phone.. I hope all goes well.. If you find out what the problem was/is, let me know
Hey godefroi, im new to all of this, just bought a messed up tilt from my friend, and i want to know if you could givve me the link for the insturctions to refalsh my tilt
Just hit up AT&T's site (which redirects you to HTC's site) and download the ROM. The file you want is "_ATT Tilt_RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_3.57.502.2_radio_sign_25.88.40.05_1.65.21.18_Ship.exe", which was the latest update for the phone.
Seems it's not fixed. After playing around with it for a couple days, it's back into bootloader and stuck there. Taking out the battery and leaving it for a few hours brings it back for a while, but it seems there's no permanant fix. Next step will be flashing HardSPL and a custom ROM. I'll update when that happens.
awww dang, that sucks. thank you for tellin me. hopin your tilt comes out ok
Did you ever get this resolved?
Hey man did you ever get this fixed? I cant find anything on it.
I can get to a boot loader screen and it shows USB and when I plug it into my computer I hear the sound that it's recognized but my active sync wont connect.
This is what I posted earlier and a moderator killed the post because I didn't spend hours hunting for a solution first before posting. I don't think one exists but if there is I would be glad to know it. I have flashed this phone and my older HTC Wizard dozens of times with no issues so Im not a "noob"
Earlier today I was taking a picture and the screen kind of stuck so I has to soft reboot it.
It didn't come back up. I was left at the rainbow bootloader screen.
I tried holding the camera button down and rebooting but it didn't change anything.
I tried several different combo's of holding keys down and rebooting and it always came back to that bootloader screen.
So the next thing I did was to format my cd card and downloaded KaisDiagTest1.zip and then coppied the KAISDIAG.NBH image file from the zip on to the root of the sd card.
That worked fine and I was left at a screen saying SPL 1.00.OliNex.
Next thing I did is were I think I screwed up. I flashed it with _ATT Tilt_RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.62.502.0_radio_sign _22.45.88.07_1.27.14.09R2_Ship.exe which is the ROM from the HTC site and I think I was only supose to use a custom ROM and now after it finished flashing the ROM it rebooted and is stuck showing loading ... on the screen.
It goes past the boot loader and is stuck at loading...
Please advise if there is anything I can do.
Cheers,
Chris

I never did. Every once in a while I can get it reflashed, but inevitably it stops working. Just like yours, I'll sfot reset it and it'll be stuck in bootloader.
Best bet is when it gets stuck on the bootloader or on the "white screen" as to put it. Do the following:
1) Unplug battery, memory car and simcard. Reinsert battery ONLY after 3 seconds (cards stay out!)
2) Hold BOTH softkeys down at the same time
3) Whilst holding softkeys, turn the unit on
4) You will be prompted to press "SEND" to reset all user data (you will lose everything on the internal storage. Press the Dial (green button) to reset.
5) When it's finished, you will be prompted to press "SEND" to reboot. Press send and it will boot into WM but might take slightly longer.
6) Realign your pointer and tada. It's up and running.
n.b. This often happens when the radio version of your phone isn't correct. If you notice, when you get stuck in the "white screen" the "gsm signal sight" is frashing green!
I've got to warn you again, this procedure WILL delete all of your internal user storage, hence why I recommend taking out all of the cards before proceeding.

Nope. Stuck in bootloader is stuck in bootloader. Like, stuck. No, really, it's stuck. Hard-resetting doesn't get it out.

There's no white screen, just bootloader rainbow. Also, there's no chance that I flashed the wrong radio, because this phone has never been flashed with anything but the official ROM. It's never even had a HardSPL flashed on it.
hmmm...now that you mention it has never had a hardSPL, maybe that could be the next step?
i understand that some people may want to keep a "stock" configuration in case waranty needs to be claimed or for any other valid reasons...but if the phone is out of waranty, theres little to lose.
only reason i'm suggesting it is because cmonex has a hardSPL that aims to fix EXACTLY this problem, among others (if i understand your problem and cmonex's fix correctly):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420683
also, this thread links to a page in the wiki about your problem (or something along the same lines):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423486
finally, a collection of hardSPL versions can be found in this "roll up" thread:

i guess you may have already gone through the above mentioned links but if not, they may open up more avenues for troubleshooting or even a permanent resolution.
Hey,
I bought a T-Mo HTC G1 on ebay and it worked pretty well. It would reboot a few times a day but oh well. I sold it on ebay (full disclosure on the problem) when I bought my Milestone.
It was working fine, I took some photos of it turned on, sold it on ebay. Shipped it off, the guy got it, and then claimed it wouldn't turn on and shipped it back.
So, I shipped away a working phone, and now when I've received it when I turn the phone on it just indefinitely hangs on the "T-Mobile G1" screen as soon as I turn it on. I never get to the "Android" loading screen or anything. Any tips on what I can do? I'd love to be able to fix it so I can try and sell it for _something_ while I still can.
Thanks for all your help in advance
If it honestly worked as you state when you sent it, then my guess is that one of two things happened to it;
1) he tried to install the deathspl using the dangerous method -- which means using RECOVERY rather than fastboot and bricked it.
2) he ALREADY HAD a bricked phone and swapped mainboards out.
Either way, if what you say is true, he's pulling a fast one on you.
You can confirm either of these with just a serial cable.
If the device is stuck in boot mode 3, then its bricked.
If the IMEI matches, it is #1 he's pulling.
If the IMEI doesn't match, it is #2 he's pulling.
Either way, I wouldn't refund his money. If he paid with paypal or something like that, then you should be able to present your case for him causing the damage, which makes HIM liable TO YOU. It also makes him liable for FRAUD, which is a CRIMINAL offence.
Make sure that you confirm bricking first though;
you need to try to start it in fastboot or recovery mode.
If it won't go into either of those modes (note: stock SPL doesn't HAVE a fastboot mode... but it its bricked, then it has some engineering spl installed -- which is how it was bricked), then start it in bluelight mode and attach a serial cable to diagnose.
Note: If it IS bricked, then you'll need a jtag to fix it.

Thanks for all that info. Too bad that when he filed his dispute with Paypal he claimed the phone didn't work when he received it, and so they automatically sided with him seeing as he's the buyer. I've been disputing it and getting them to re-open the case over and over trying to get them to listen but so far no luck. Hopefully this last time it will have a better chance of being overruled seeing as I've been speaking with managers the whole time.
Anyways, I've tried booting the phone normally, booting the phone pressing home, camera key, all different combo's and the only time it _doesn't_ hold up on the T-Mobile screen is with the "home" key, where it gets to that rainbow screen and just displays a few lines.
So are you saying the phone is more or less hooped? What's this jtag you speak of?
If you can get to the bootloader "rainbow" screen, then it's not bricked and it's quite possible your buyer was being honest. You should be able to reflash an official image and get it back in working order.
Download this:
http://android-dls.com/files/upload/DREAIMG.nbh (for a US phone)
or this:
http://android-dls.com/files/upload/uk/DREAIMG.NBH (for an EU phone)
Use a card reader to put it on the root of your sdcard (not in a folder), and power on the phone using [camera]+[power]. You should get the rainbow screen followed by a progress bar and if all goes well, a working phone.

No idea.. iirc there's an option in the settings to check for OTA updates.
Edit: There are more recent nbh files floating around the internet but I don't have links to hand. Should be easy enough to find a 1.6 image.

Yeh, looked for the OTA check in the phone and can't find it. I tried another NBH image but that reported 'not allowed'
Correct, ability to get to rainbow screen means not bricked.
In fact rainbow screen means stock SPL 0.95.0000.
The NBH is the only option.
Doesn't matter about being able to "OTA" it -- just root the RC29 and install preferred system image.
