Lately ive been getting this error.
I will receive an sms. But instead of the device notifying me of 1 sms, it will say I have 2. The inbox will containonly 1 new bolded sms. I will then view it and delete it but still says 1 new sms. KaiserNotification lamp will blink that I have a new sms. I will then go into HKEY_current_user/system/messages/unread and the value will be 1. Meaning 1 new sms. I will then edit it to 0 and problem is fixed - at least till the next new incoming sms-.
It will happen on the next new sms.
I tried restoring to a previous backup, still the same. I even hard resetted the device twice and then restored to the last backup but still the same.
Any help would be tremendously appreciated.
check if you've got a message in your voicemail box.
I read something it has to do with the voicemail notification.
I had this with my tytn 1 a few months back. there was NO unread message but it still showed it as 1 unread.
In the end, I created a folder within SMS, MOVED all the SMS's in the new folder and tada! one unread bold message appeared.
Marked it all as read and moved them back to Inbox.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
maybe someone could help me with the following: I received an SMS and deleted it, but the phone still notifies that there is an unread SMS although all the folders in SMS/MMS folder are empty. Would anyone find a solution how to fix it? The phone reminds me every five minutes about unread message and slowly it's driving me crazy
tx
May be this problem is because of a problem from you GSM service.
One I got this problem and every 5 minute I again and again receive old sms's as new one! After about 48 hours the problem solved.

did you open the sms and read it? If you just read the notification and deleted the sms without opening it, that may be the problem.
Yes I did. The SMS folder is empty (no messages at all) but in the lower bar there is still an info Unread=1. Where are the SMS messages stroed? Maybe I can delete this file somehow?

Guess bluetooth was on..... it's a Kaiser bug
Soft reset your phone and the light should turn green again... and no notifications anymore...
The SMS is deleted from all folders. And it isn't about the light - it's the notification - When I go to SMS/MMS folder it shows 1 unread message although it's empty Soft and Hard Reset don't help

try to put your sim to another phone.
check the content of this reg key:
HKCU\System\State\Messages\SMS\Unread\Count
it should be 0. if its other put it to 0.
I get a problem like this. Basically, i get that "Notification" as the left soft key when I receive a message. But if I read/delete the message without pressing the "Notification" soft key, it stays there continuosly.
If this is the same problem you're having, I'm not sure of a fix, but i press the "notification" soft key (which should turn it to "Mark Read"), the quickly press "mark read". But you have to be quick, as it's as though the phone realises there isn't actually a Noticiation to display, so it quickly turns back from "mark Read" to "Notification".
I realise what I've wrotes confusing, so apologies, but's it's hard to explain in a post!

Worked till restart - now I have the same problem
Hi all,
I tried to post on this before and see if someone had any ideas on what to do. I have a wing, and a few months ago, the text message counter started showing a phantom message indicator so even though there were no unread messages, on the today screen, it would show 1 unread message. Nothing I could think of made that go away. Now, today it did it again, so there are now 2 unread text messages showing on the today screen but there are not 2 unread messages in the inbox. I've even tried deleting all text messages so that there is nothing in any of the boxes (in, out, saved, deleted) and it still shows 2 unread messages. It's annoying and makes it difficult to get an accurate count when I am just glancing at my phone.
Any help would be appreciated.

search for something called "FIXUNREADCOUNT"
it's a simple exe file, you copy over to ur phone and run from the phone that will fix these issues.
Hi all!
I was wondering if there is a way to force the SMS application to requery the Number->Contact relationship.
I have a number of text messages which only show the phone number but not the contact name even though there is such a contact in my address book.
I tried doing it by deleting all texts and restoring a backup from PIM backup but no luck...
Many Thanks!

In WM6.1, mine get fixed if I receive a new text from an updated contact. I still have some with Last, First because I haven't received anything from them.
Thanks
I just upgraded to 6.1, so lets see what happens!
I just received a text from one of the "problematic" contacts, but no luck.
The new text does show his name, but none of the older ones got updated...
Edit: The annoying thing is that the problem exists only in the lists view. If I open the text, the contact details show up fine...
Today I was abotu to write a new SMS but I selected new Voicemail unfortunately. The phone lagged for a few secs then I received 2 new MMS - from several weeks ago. I find that they were old SMS I had received! The SMS body had been put in the subject and the phone asked me to download the MMS, but it couldn't when I chose yes, because they were of course outdated. Now I'm stuck with these MMS, the subject doesn't hold the whole body, it's been cut! I want my SMS back! Help me It's very important for me. I've tried exporting with SmsImport and SKtools, they appear as MMS with the text cut...

Download and run THIS
Thanks for responding.
Run that twice, with no effekt. Today screen still shows one unread massage. Somebody has any other idea?
O.K., solved that problem. I had to switch back to old syle SMS (from threaded SMS). Unread massage appeared so I could delete it. See This:

In that case, you can edit the following registry, setting it to 0. Then, when you click on the SMS icon on HTC Home, it should show the lonely unread text message.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s]
"SMSAvailable"=dword:1
0=old style
1=threaded style
Be sure to set it back to 1. On my phone, when I had to do it, setting it to 0 took effect immediately and no soft reset was needed, but I had to soft-reset to get back threaded-style messaging.
Thats it.
