hi folks
this is my first post and any help would be appreciated...
i have a mda vario 3 and am trying to install software on the sdhc card 8gb by sandisak.
my computer sees this as an external drive but still says insert disk in drive d? some colleagfues say the pc cannot read that size of the card and requires a bios update????? any ideas what they are talking about and how i fix this problem
Thanks in advance

Hi tubzy,
I'm new to this topic, but I think you'll need a SDHC compatible card reader.
In the linked thread is a solution I think.

Bye
EDA-One

no solution still
hi eda-one
sorry this still is no soluton - i do hae the latest sandisk with the card reader and once all this gear is connected to the pc it says...please insert a disk in drive f??
even though the disk is in the usb card reader

did you try format it?

If you have used the card on an 'oldish' PC without the latest BIOS or Windows updates installed it may not be SDHC compatible even using a card reader.
You can also get a situation where formatting using the standard Windows formatter or even just writing files to it from your PC will corrupt its filing system.
There are various utilities available on SD manfacturers sites for formatting and recovery.
Check out the 'Formatting and Read/Write check util in the OEM section here and download the latest drivers for your reader whilst there.

Hope this helps.

Hi and thank you
HI
Even after trying this it still doe s not work,
I have downloaded the utility and attempted to run it but it says no usb found even though it can vonnect to a usb pen drive?? any ideas ??
thank you

I had that same problem when I first got my 4 Gb SDHC card and it was because I didn't connect the card reader directly to a USB port, instead I was using an external USB port. When I put it in to an onboard one, even though all of mine are on the back of my computer, it started working.

8gb card
Hi and thanks for your response.
i am sorry but can you please clarify what you mean to be onboard usb port. Is this the sockets where you normally connect any usb device eg a mouse to a computer or do you mean i have to take the computer apart and do it a motherboard level?
I am not very technical and apologise in advance if it sounds a silly question.
I bought the damn thing and was hoping it would and should work from out of the cardboard package. I can see this on the my computer as an external drive but when clcikcing on it it says insert disk
if the disk was faulty it would not work on the phone but on the phone it says 7.5 gb available and have stored some data there. So i think it it is a case of the pc not being able to read the card and from there i dont know what the problem is.
Any further light on this subject would really be appreciated

You have it right about what I meant. I did mean the sockets where you connect any USB device. You don't need to take your computer apart or anything. If that's what you are already doing then it's possible that the reader that you got with the card may just be faulty.

Not knowing what adapter you are using is a problem. I had similar problems with my first SDHC card and finally went to a local office supply store (Staples) and bought a "Sandisk MobileMate+ USB Memory Card Reader" for $15. It is a memory stick sized device and it accepts the SDHC MicroSD cards directly in it's slot. This works great on any PC so far.
It just may be the reader.

thanks!
This is a nightmare on elm street scenario.
I have finally tracked it to a faulty card reader, so i purchased another one. This one works and we have another problem - cannot copy data file path is too deep???????????
I am openeing another thread for that
Thanks to every1 for trying various solutions

I'm guessing you got a bad card..which is going to happen a lot with these high-cap cards, at least for a while. I am assuming you are using the small, plastic USB reader that came with the 8 gb card....that plugs directly into a USB socket? If not...I can tell you right now..the "older" adapters will NOT work with 4/6/8 gb cards. By this, i mean the adapter/reader that usually comes with the cards in the package. Also, it may sound silly..but make SURE you didnt, or are not, forcing the card into the phone/reader backwards...i know it's silly, but it's damn easy to do..and it usually trashes the card. My 8 gb just got in tonight...and it's working like a champ. I'm guessing you got a bad card. best of luck.

This is crazy. My phone reads the card just fine, but the card readers I have do not work period. 8G SDHC

What is the specific model of the USB reader? Did it come with the card or was it a separate purchase?

Hmmmm seems to me like the reader isnt functioning properly, or your computer is having issues with windows built in drivers ( Unlikely ). Have you tried to put the reader/card into another PC to see if it recognizes there ? If not I would send it back under warranty.
The reader and card are certainly paired and made to work for SDHC so there isnt a compatibility issue. It if works in another PC, it would tell me that you may want to back up and reinstall windows. XP does get shaky sometimes with driver issues but not normally with something so common as a card reader.
One more thing. It seems others have had some issues with that specific combo. If you have USB ports on the front and back of your computer, try using the back ones if youre using the front one now ( Or the reverse if that happens to be the case )
**Edit**
Also take the card in and out of the reader a couple times. Some people are saying its a loose connection between the card and the reader's pins that can cause an issue.
I have the same combo that came with a 2GB card, the reader worked fine with my 8GB card as well. However the reader seems fragile. It works very well when it does and is extremely fast, but now as said it has bad contacts with the card. The problem is different than the one the OP has though, the reader is recognised properly, Windows just says "Please insert a disk in drive X:" when clicking on it. If I squeeze the reader with my fingers it does then touch the card and works. Not really usable that way though

Tilt connection

HI, I was wondering if there is a way that I can find software that will install on my phone that I can connect to any computer. I would like to use the 8 gig sd micro for a portable hard drive storage. But there are some places that will not let me install actvsync. But it will let me charge the phone on the USB port. I travel a lot and would like to just transfer files without email

Try Card Export II (you can demo it, before you pay).
There are free versions of other Mass Storage app's but seem to have problems with the Kaiser.

hi why don't u use usb2pc? the pc will think your phone (micro sdcard) is an external harddisk.

Mobidapter: MicroSD to USB adapter

This adapter can be used as an alternative for the USB-Host functionality but I was afraid the microSD part wouldn't be long enough to fit the HD2 MicroSD slot.
So I managed to get its microSD part length according to expansys' product image:
The length is only 17mm but the minimum length to get it work with HD2 must be 20.5mm. I used a calliper to measure that.
So, I was hopping anyone would come up with an idea to use this adapter with HTC HD2.
Please notice that the adapter price is £29 excluding the shipping cost so I prefer not take the risk to disassemble it for extending the microSD length if it isn't possible.
Thanks in advance,
that's a very interesting product..
What is it for, are you trying to use a USB stick instead of your micro SD card?
If so, why?
a portable HDD caddy LOL
shame though, the MicroSD port wont put out 5v 500mah
although its probably enough to power a CF/MSproDUO/XD type of reader for example to clear some space on your digital camera card without deleting images (or simply to view them on a bigger screen )

Sometimes you really need work on a USB stick but you don't have access to PC.
Or as quasi_mojo said you can connect a card reader to your device...
Will I be able to play some mp3's directly from a pendrive with this device? Because I have about 25GB of music and I can't afford a 32GB microSD card.
i THINK (i could be wrong...) a pendrive would require more nearer 5volts to work...
opened up my SDcard reader a few days ago, plugged into usb with a 2gb sdcard...it was pulling 3.4-3.6volts while accessing the card, which is damn close to the MicroSD maximum voltage...
Anyone knows where to buy?
There is a shop in the USA, but who knows a shop in europe?
Greetings Ottschke from germany
PS Why not attache a harddrive to my Tab
Nook Color option
It would be cool if someone could make a Micro SD socket adaptor (with a usb converter cable) that would allow the ability to connect to and drive a scanner and a printer. One would need the appropriate app designed for it too. A nice option for the Nook Color.
Hi there,
I had the mobydapter here, but it didn't function with my galaxy 7 inch tab. Pity I had to send it back. No function beside beeing very unstable by nearly dropping out of my tab. Oh I forgot it was blinking. ;-)
***MOD EDIT*** shows a Mobiadapter attached to a Galaxt Tab 7 tablet.. Somebody said that this doesn´t work on that Tab... What kinda of marketing.. Argh!
The Mobiadapter no loger exist.
Someone know something like that?
Thanks for support
I need this product for a security research. If you happen to have one, even as used, please message me.

[Q] USB Host with card reader

Hi newb here ... did search but could not find the answer. Please forgive me if I missed the obvious.
I have an HD+ running cm10.1 emmc by verygreen (THANKS!). I am trying to read from an SD card via usb host. I have confirmed that usb host function is working by plugging in usb thumb drives. But when I plug in a card reader with the card inserted -- no matter a single slot reader or a multi-format reader -- it is not mounted.
What is more, I installed "USB Host Viewer", and it is able to see the readers. It is showing a device .../usb/001/0xx where xx is an increasing number if I keep it running while unplugging/replugging the card reader. But if I try to mount .../usb/001/0xx or ../usb/001 or .../usb mount would not be able to find the device. Also I tried several usb host controller/mount apps (e.g. stickmount and many others) none would be able to do the job.
Since the viewer can see the reader, I suppose what is missing is the actual device path that I should give to mount. But how do I find it out?
Advice is greatly appreciated. This is the only thing that is missing in my usage model -- I want to be able to read camera cards into the HD+.
Thanks,
Sean
No takers? It is hard to believe no one wanted/needed this... IMHO this is a very relevant use of a portable device with great screen.
Are you using a USB hub? It may fix your problem. It will mask the card reader's energy requirements and the Nook might then recognize it correctly.

I don't think it is a power issue. Apparently the nook sees the reader (see my original post), but from what I read it only auto mount the "first" volume.

Sandisk ultra dual drive

Hello all! I have bought dual flash drive by Sandisk, size 64gb. For some reason when I connect the device I cannot use it, and when I try to set it to MTP, it "jumps" right back to reverse charge. I have unrooted stock ROM and would like to keep it that way if possible. I have tried usb debugging, and formatted the device.
Help please.
Thanks in advance!
Try to format sd card in reader with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. Google for it. I'm using same sd card moded to use with 2 sim cards and it works fine (with more than 50GB of data occupied). Or maybe the card died
Please notice that it's not a card but a flash drive.
From SanDisk page:
64GB and 128GB Dual USB Drives come preformatted in exFat file system and certain mobile devices do not support exFat. In this case please format the drive in Fat32 file system.

Note: Some mobile device protective cases interfere with the full and proper connection between SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive and the microUSB port of mobile devices. You may have to remove the protective case on your mobile device to obtain a full and proper connection.

Weirdly P9 is not listen in compatibility page even when P8 and P7 is... but I often use OTG drives with my P9, from cheap sd card reader for 3$(with microUSB so I use usb-c dongle...) to even external SSD is working with it, so lack of OTG support is not a problem.
It's not the cover. Will formatting it to fat32 won't affect the size of the flash drive I can use? And Is there a way to format it with unrooted phone? Because I will not be at home for the next few weeks.
nope, formating just change file system/algorithms of how files are stored in drive. But you need to remember that 64GB drive will have just about 59-62GB of REAL size, its because of difference between how the manufacturer calculates capacity (decimal-based) compared to how a computer calculates it (binary-based).
And you dont do formating on phone but on PC:
1. just plug it to PC.
2. backup files if you have any on it.
3. right click on that dive in "My Computer".
7. select format -> Quick format
8. select FAT32 and then hit format.
9. done.
Thank you for your answer. I know to format through a computer, I just won't be near one for the next few weeks. What file system should I format into?
umm... I mentioned that 2 times: Fat32 format :]
It should be fine if it's in Reverse charging. In my case, I'm using a USB-C to USB (female) adapter (check Google if you can find one). It works fine, my P9 can even read the contents of my 1TB external hard drive. Probably something wrong with the USB-C part of the flash drive itself?
