This adapter can be used as an alternative for the USB-Host functionality but I was afraid the microSD part wouldn't be long enough to fit the HD2 MicroSD slot.
So I managed to get its microSD part length according to expansys' product image:
The length is only 17mm but the minimum length to get it work with HD2 must be 20.5mm. I used a calliper to measure that.
So, I was hopping anyone would come up with an idea to use this adapter with HTC HD2.
Please notice that the adapter price is £29 excluding the shipping cost so I prefer not take the risk to disassemble it for extending the microSD length if it isn't possible.
Thanks in advance,
that's a very interesting product..
What is it for, are you trying to use a USB stick instead of your micro SD card?
If so, why?
a portable HDD caddy LOL
shame though, the MicroSD port wont put out 5v 500mah
although its probably enough to power a CF/MSproDUO/XD type of reader for example to clear some space on your digital camera card without deleting images (or simply to view them on a bigger screen )

Sometimes you really need work on a USB stick but you don't have access to PC.
Or as quasi_mojo said you can connect a card reader to your device...
Will I be able to play some mp3's directly from a pendrive with this device? Because I have about 25GB of music and I can't afford a 32GB microSD card.
i THINK (i could be wrong...) a pendrive would require more nearer 5volts to work...
opened up my SDcard reader a few days ago, plugged into usb with a 2gb sdcard...it was pulling 3.4-3.6volts while accessing the card, which is damn close to the MicroSD maximum voltage...
Anyone knows where to buy?
There is a shop in the USA, but who knows a shop in europe?
Greetings Ottschke from germany
PS Why not attache a harddrive to my Tab
Nook Color option
It would be cool if someone could make a Micro SD socket adaptor (with a usb converter cable) that would allow the ability to connect to and drive a scanner and a printer. One would need the appropriate app designed for it too. A nice option for the Nook Color.
Hi there,
I had the mobydapter here, but it didn't function with my galaxy 7 inch tab. Pity I had to send it back. No function beside beeing very unstable by nearly dropping out of my tab. Oh I forgot it was blinking. ;-)
***MOD EDIT*** shows a Mobiadapter attached to a Galaxt Tab 7 tablet.. Somebody said that this doesn´t work on that Tab... What kinda of marketing.. Argh!
The Mobiadapter no loger exist.
Someone know something like that?
Thanks for support
I need this product for a security research. If you happen to have one, even as used, please message me.

hi folks
this is my first post and any help would be appreciated...
i have a mda vario 3 and am trying to install software on the sdhc card 8gb by sandisak.
my computer sees this as an external drive but still says insert disk in drive d? some colleagfues say the pc cannot read that size of the card and requires a bios update????? any ideas what they are talking about and how i fix this problem
Thanks in advance
Hi tubzy,
I'm new to this topic, but I think you'll need a SDHC compatible card reader.
In the linked thread is a solution I think.

Bye
EDA-One
no solution still
hi eda-one
sorry this still is no soluton - i do hae the latest sandisk with the card reader and once all this gear is connected to the pc it says...please insert a disk in drive f??
even though the disk is in the usb card reader
did you try format it?
If you have used the card on an 'oldish' PC without the latest BIOS or Windows updates installed it may not be SDHC compatible even using a card reader.
You can also get a situation where formatting using the standard Windows formatter or even just writing files to it from your PC will corrupt its filing system.
There are various utilities available on SD manfacturers sites for formatting and recovery.
Check out the 'Formatting and Read/Write check util in the OEM section here and download the latest drivers for your reader whilst there.
http://sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx
Hope this helps.
Hi and thank you
HI
Even after trying this it still doe s not work,
I have downloaded the utility and attempted to run it but it says no usb found even though it can vonnect to a usb pen drive?? any ideas ??
thank you
I had that same problem when I first got my 4 Gb SDHC card and it was because I didn't connect the card reader directly to a USB port, instead I was using an external USB port. When I put it in to an onboard one, even though all of mine are on the back of my computer, it started working.
8gb card
Hi and thanks for your response.
i am sorry but can you please clarify what you mean to be onboard usb port. Is this the sockets where you normally connect any usb device eg a mouse to a computer or do you mean i have to take the computer apart and do it a motherboard level?
I am not very technical and apologise in advance if it sounds a silly question.
I bought the damn thing and was hoping it would and should work from out of the cardboard package. I can see this on the my computer as an external drive but when clcikcing on it it says insert disk
if the disk was faulty it would not work on the phone but on the phone it says 7.5 gb available and have stored some data there. So i think it it is a case of the pc not being able to read the card and from there i dont know what the problem is.
Any further light on this subject would really be appreciated

You have it right about what I meant. I did mean the sockets where you connect any USB device. You don't need to take your computer apart or anything. If that's what you are already doing then it's possible that the reader that you got with the card may just be faulty.
Not knowing what adapter you are using is a problem. I had similar problems with my first SDHC card and finally went to a local office supply store (Staples) and bought a "Sandisk MobileMate+ USB Memory Card Reader" for $15. It is a memory stick sized device and it accepts the SDHC MicroSD cards directly in it's slot. This works great on any PC so far.
It just may be the reader.
thanks!
This is a nightmare on elm street scenario.
I have finally tracked it to a faulty card reader, so i purchased another one. This one works and we have another problem - cannot copy data file path is too deep???????????
I am openeing another thread for that
Thanks to every1 for trying various solutions
I'm guessing you got a bad card..which is going to happen a lot with these high-cap cards, at least for a while. I am assuming you are using the small, plastic USB reader that came with the 8 gb card....that plugs directly into a USB socket? If not...I can tell you right now..the "older" adapters will NOT work with 4/6/8 gb cards. By this, i mean the adapter/reader that usually comes with the cards in the package. Also, it may sound silly..but make SURE you didnt, or are not, forcing the card into the phone/reader backwards...i know it's silly, but it's damn easy to do..and it usually trashes the card. My 8 gb just got in tonight...and it's working like a champ. I'm guessing you got a bad card. best of luck.
This is crazy. My phone reads the card just fine, but the card readers I have do not work period. 8G SDHC
According to HTC service manual http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410653 (picture attached) there are somewere an Y cable and SD card reader !!!!

Till now we just proved the existence of a working SD card reader-cable connected.
Special reader? Special Cable? According with HTC service manual no special software is needed, so the solution is in the HW
MAKE A SMALL Diamond like microsd card reader?
people get some entrepreneurial spirit 3 million diamonds are going to be sold
know some manufacturer which can make it for $10 a piece and you sell it for $49, YOU SELL 250K, YOU MADE over $10 MILLION, theres a life.
or VIEW THIS! http://www.tca-inc.net/usbmatousbbf.html and http://www.bizrate.com/memorycards/oid796436093.html
will that work?
Another USB reader
Check this out.

Nice prices, altough shipping will be put on the price.
I almost hate to ask, but has anyone actually tried plugging in a card reader or USB drive?
If someone managed to cram the features of the smart cable into the space made by the extended battery back cover, we'll have a neat little extension to the phone
Bringing up an old topic.... But just for the info here it is:
I worked with it many times. It can read the SD card but only in special conditions. You cannot use it as a USB host and read-write files etc.
The cable is a special cable so don't bother look for a ready made one commercially.
Regards!
i think its purpose is for service only

I think the SD Card reader in the picture is simply a USB OTG Bridge that can transfer data to USB client devices.
Here is a similar product:
http://www.everythingusb.com/sima_hitch_usb-101.html
Forget hitch, the reader is a plain card reader.
And yes it is used for servicing only.
I could go into further details later if you want or even show how to build one.
Is there something useful here?

Hm... Have no idea, didn't tested it.

if that's a plain card reader, it means the Diamond is an USB host or OTG device, right?
if that's true, we could provide an external 5v power to the card reader, and connect card reader's D+ and D- pins to Diamond to get it work, right? ... is it required to connect the both sides' Vcc and Gnd pins? Or, maybe the external power is not required?
thanks,
jeffrey
It will only work for servicing purposes. Nothing else. About the connections you are right.
I see. So it's useless for the rest of us.
Thanks,
Jeffrey
He, Just thought that I would try and let my PS3 act as a charger via USB for my Diamond, and of course it works - and as a bonus, you are able to access the Internal Storage as a USB disc (Fat32 format) and may play whatever mediafiles are on the phone...
I know, its obvious as its just a USB device, but still - very Nice
Coool Same on the 360!!
My Dad has a cheap DVD player with a card reader and a USB port on it, unfortunately we live in different countries so I can't test it right now, so does anyone else have one of those? does it work? Thanks.
So I'm brand new to the world of tablets and Android and whatnot (and, subsequently, this forum, so sorry if this is a dumb question). I'm trying to decide between buying a nook Color (with the intention of rooting) and the Archos 101. I prefer almost everything about the nook, but the 101 can connect to an external hard drive, and that's a big deal, as I'd like to be able to access my documents and video on the fly.
So, with the proper USB adaptor, will the nook support external storage? Thanks!
The hardware should allow it, but AFAIK it doesn't support it out of the box. It shouldn't be TOO much trouble to allow it to. shrug.
others will know much more about this.

Yeah, I'm not expecting it to work pre-rooting. I'm just trying to figure out if I'll be able to access the external using a file manager.
Thanks!
Ok, don't quote me on this, but I (think) i remember someone somewhere (not very convincing...) stating that the usb hardware was capable of host and OTG modes.
Android is most definitely capable of dealing with host mode, which is necessary for usb hard drives. So there should be some way of enabling it....
Sorry I'm not much help... I'll do some research and see if its a hidden toggle somewhere, otherwise I'm no help. lol
Any update on this? I'd really like to buy a tablet... but I need to make sure that the hardware can support it.. even if rooting is necessary to make USB port into Host.
If it can't does anyone know of a tablet within the $200-300 range that has USB host capabilities? Would like it to have a separate port for power while USB being used specifically for my 1TB Western Digital My Passport external USB HDD.
Do you actually have 1TB worth of info that has to be accessible on the fly or could you just load what you regularly use onto a larger sd card? I know this isn't an answer to your question but I just wondered how many gigs of documents you have to have access to during the day because the NC can use up to a 32 gig mSD if I remember correctly.
I bought that product last week and got it 3 days ago.
Well the Usb connector is cool if u want to use a regular keyboard or a memory stick
It does give power to my usb headset, but sound keep coming out from speakers
It doesnt give enought power to my usb Goflex Freeagent external Hard drive
As for the SD connector, well here come my questions since i didnt have any SD card nearby and i want to know before buying one.
Can I put my titanium backup/rom manager backups on an external SD card ?
Can i put Movies on the external SD cars and then watch them on my tab ?
I ask this last question because i got quite a few games that are taking lots of internal space and i only have the 16gb tab. I like 720p movies but they weight around 4gb and thats pretty much all the space i have left on the tab so i though i could put them on an external SD since my external HD cant be plug into the tab.
sorry for my poor writting skills, i hope u guys understand what i mean
please i need help on thoses two questions
I had similar questions, but apparently these aren't the forums to ask them.... sigh
Where did you purchase these gadgets at???
You should specify which tab you own.
Here is the 7" (1st gen./classic) tab forum and there is (sadly) no official Samsung "Usb and SD connection kit" for our tabs.
Hardware wise it should be possible to use kits made for the current 10.1" tabs, but there is no OTG (USB On The Go /host-mode) support in the ROM.
Regards, Juergen
..... this is the second subject i start in the wrong section
but since some of you read it here, i will anwser here and starting a new subject, so if we dont get any anwsers here check THERE!!!!
Yes i got the galaxy tab 10.1
yes i got the official samsung usb/SD card connector kit
I tried to read a movie from a memory stick plugged into the usb connector that was plugged into the tab and it did work but, video player like moboplayer arent flipping the screen, this mean that the stick and connector are in the 30pin connector wich is at the bottom of the tab so u cant watch a movie with the tab standing in the portrait position (see picture)
Do you guys know a videoplayer that will rotate the screen so my sd card or memory stick would at the top ?
