seeking programmer for CUSTOM TODAY SCREEN - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

any one interested in doing some custom today plugins?? im a graphic artist with 10 years experience developing custom gui. most of the code is prob avail allready...we simply need to skin it and move it arround.
i have a crap load of high end stock icons (the latest styles)
im assuming if this is all xml based it will be a breeze
things id like to skin
1) callendar reminders
2) missed calls
3) new text mes
4) new email
5) quick links
6) favorite people
the existing today screen is really close, but things need to change to make it pretty. and finger friendly.
again, if you are a developer wishing to create an aesthetically pleasing and informative usefull today screen, lets chat.
this could be a for profit venture... but keeping it free for the community is desireable
thank you for reading

there is already a customizer for the htc home screen, i would look there to see if that could meet your demands before getting someone to bust out a new one. Best of luck to you on this.

problem is, it still needs to be customized to make it more informative/intuitive.
i cant stand how small my email button is, its impossible to find sometimes (stuck in tabs) there are a lot of icky things about it.
thank you, conrad

Novice Wing Modder with Some Questions....

Hey folks, I got my Wing a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I had a treo before, and this makes me much happier. I had gotten into modding the UI a bit and playing around with the best combos of third-party software on my old treo, so I started playing with my Wing. Well, I've gotten probably mid-level with my technical modding competency thus far. I'm comfortable with most progs and mods I've found below actually flashing the ROM, and I'd think about that too, but I've gathered that most of the TF roms out have trouble on the Wing. So far, I'm overclocked to 260, tweaked some stuff in the registry, installed the HTC Touch UI minus the cube and all that, but I'm not quite happy. So, I have some questions:
On the HTC Home 5 tab skin:
1. Is there any way to put custom icons in the launcher area? Not just style-wise(though that would be good), but that link to things that aren't on the list? I'd really love to but a button that would take me to "settings" in there, like the one that takes you to "programs". I have a few other ideas too.
2. On the weather tab, I know there is a way to add cities to the "select city" list by getting the city code off of accuweather.com and changing the registry, but I can't figure out how to get the code for my city when I look it up on the site...I search it, and it comes up, but where is the code?
3. I put the HTC black theme on here, but I wondered, are there any others available? I know I've seen a blue one, and I think I've seen pictures of an HTC Touch that had a red theme....
Other Stuff:
1. I tried to up my page pool to 6mb like it says in the "all you need to know" thread, but the preparation app wont work....I install it, but nothing happens after that....I can't find it to open or anything else...Is installing it enough?
2. Is there any way to keep wm6 from putting the recently used programs on the start menu?
3. Is there any way to change the two links on the bottom bar that the soft keys are mapped to? Not change what the keys are mapped to, but like, change "Calendar" to "Settings" or "Contacts" to "Messaging", for example?
4. Is there anything out there that would let me navigate my phone with my finger? I know certain programs have this capability, like Opera Mobile's latest beta and PocketCM(which I use), but I'd like it on all windows that require scrolling....
Apps:
1. Anyone know the best app to use to stream radio and/or tv on my phone?
2. What's the best way to watch youtube? I wouldn't ask, but I've found like three or four different threads/articles on ways to do it, and I don't know which I should use. I prefer to use Opera as my browser, but I can use PIE now and then, if the process actually lets me watch it in my browser....
3. Can ya suggest any good games?
Well, thanks in advance for any help you can give. I've been trolling here for a while, so I know there are some very smart people here and I have faith. Sorry for asking so much, and forgive me if I should have broken this up a bit into different threads, but I'm trying to perfect my phone, and this was basically what was left on my list....Any other tips on how to achieve my goal of making a nice, clean, finger-friendly UI and putting the picking the best apps would be appreciated too.
Peace.
Ok, I figured out the HTC weather thing, and the today softkey thing, so I'm good there. Any help on the rest?
I can cover a few for you but any more's gonna cost ya....
flash your phone with either of the touch roms out right now and you will be able to finger scroll in nearly all applications.
try avotmv, or search using google for similar programs for streaming videos(avotMv includes youtube as well as google).
Many streams to tv stations can be opened with WMP directly which makes it alot easier to connect to them by saving them as PIE favourites. You just need to find 'em first, I would suggest doing that from your computer first.
I've recommended Flux Challenge before, ill do it again...apart from that I don't run too many games from my pocket pc. Seal Volleyball is kinda fun too.
Maybe some others can assist you with the rest
cheers

PPC to iPhone

Friends,
Been messing around with the apps out there to convert the ppc to iPhone for fun.
I noticed in the settings, it brings up the six icons – weather, music, mail etc. How do I expand that section to include more icons? I know how to add but the background needs to be lengthened.
Is it possible to have more than one view? Example I have 30 applications on my ppc and like to create short-cuts to them. Can I have more then two or more screens for them?
Lastly, the effects of the applications closing, opening. I saw the one program and it didn’t seem to snazzy. Can you recommend any other effects programs?
Tvos
My dear friend, get ready for some " use the damn search button"
What apps out there ? different apps have different function and customization.
The best iphone emulator , I think, is ifonz.
If you just want the today screen of icons, UL do a better job. Integrate with some other apps from PCM's . A_C's ... you will have a upper than iphone interface.
You seem like to open thread for almost everything you want to know. This is not every welcome by hostile peeps here
Again , with the "Search" button , a functional "read" ability and time, you dont have to use " creat a new thread" .
Alberz,
Actually, I already have iFonz and the cool apps already installed. I should have phrased myself different.
Besides the common apps found in the ifonz setup, what else is out there that might have been missed? I did a lot of searching, customizing the phone to look like it and so far it's pretty slick..
Probably won't last a week and I'll revert back, but some of the apps like Pisel Browser and the toughflo is sweet.
Tvos
there is a thread in dev and hacking about the newest version of ifonz. You should go there and ask since peep over there is more interested in iphone UI and apps.
I just downloaded iFonz and it is a very cool app. I like it better then the other one I was working with, no disrespect to the author, did a great job but iFonz seems easier to setup. Still never a less, a lot of work just getting the phone to look like a iPhone..
thank you,
tvos

So after a month of using TF3D...

I decided to disable it and use ilauncher, ill never go back to TF3D in the near future.
The device is so much easier to use and is far more responsive.
Just thought i'd share incase you wanted to see for yourself!
any screen shots?
milky wallpaper
i tried the same but when i wanted to place a wallpaper on the today screen it went all milky.that and the loss of the tf music player made me go back again. how did you solve these issues?
It's not very difficult to create an ui which is faster, easier to use and has more options to customize than tf3d. Whats cool about tf3d - the wather app? I'am wondering, what kind of benefit people see in this peace of software.
I am using MS2 and it beats tf3d in all regards. You can get with a few clicks to anywhere. If there is a menu you miss, you create it, or you delete an existing one. You can use the complete MS2 only with your thumb. (hardware+softkeys). You have shortcuts to your last used programs within the today-screen - if you wan't to keep a shortcut, it's possible to stick them.
MS2 throws you not so early back to WM6 as tf3d. (contacts,notes...) I even find it is optical more apealing on the long run and more unified in look and feel.
That there are many ui's better than tf3d is more because of the bad design of it than good design from the others, I have the impression, the makers of tf3d are only interested in smashing some eye-catchers together for nice screen-shots, instead of getting the user fast and easy to the point where he wants to.
The only reason I'm keeping TF3D is without it some system functions don't work. For example, volume buttons stop working during calls etc. etc.

Request/Ideas for Apps Go Here!!!!

It would be awesome if there was an application to use the MBW-150 bluetooth watch on the G1. Is anyone developing one?
-Tyler
I'll bite. I'd buy one if I didn't have to use a sony ericson phone to use it.
[IDEA]A new contact app(2 preview screenshots)
Does anybody think the built-in contact app is not easy to use?
I'm working on a new contact app called aContact which provides a new UI to access to contact data and some more features.
So,anybody has any idea about this new app or found the disadvantages of the built-in contact app??
THANKS
I will post the scrrenshots after I finished the first version.
Thanks again for your advices!

OK.I'm now using the htc touch diamond.I will try SPB Mobile Shell.
Thanks for your advice
nice idea even though i dont mind the g1's contact app i know it can be better.
some things i think you should add:
-ability to view contacts in groups or categories
- if possible assign ringtones to group
- have the number/letter show up when scrolling like the icontact for wm
- integrate it so that when someone send you a number you can long press and add number to you contact manager or you can make it retrieve contacts through google.
- have birthday

Yes!I am strongly agree with you!
The built-in contact has no birthday records!
BTW,I think iContact is a nice app on WM.
[REQ] Android App Ideas
hello android users,
I am a developer on the windows mobile side of things (see the M2DC thread for an example of my work) and I am thinking I might like to move over to developing for android.
I have a few problems, first, I don't have a device, this is not a huge deal at the moment because I can just use the SDK emulator for now, but I will be purchasing a device later on if I like developing for this platform. The second problem is that I need help with ideas for some simple apps... since I do not have a G1 to handle on a daily basis I don't really get the chance to feel things out and discover where an app might come in useful.
So my request is this. Does anyone have any ideas for "simple" android applications? Anything they wish the phone did better? Or a simple functionality that they wish the phone had? Reading through this forum it looks like there is a demand for OCR and possibly something to make applying new themes/skins easier? Or the TextTwist Game?
Of these 3 the game sounds the most interesting, the theme changer sounds good too because that is what my current development in windows mobile does, and the OCR is most likely out of my league at the moment.
I am open to any app ideas, I'm just looking for something to get me started and get me interested in the platform.
A few apps i would like to see as follows
1. A reboot option in shut down menu "if possible".
2. Digital Clock for homescreen
3. Screen Capture
4. Camera Zoom option
5. Checkers
Hope this helps a bit, good luck!
An application that kills tasks running in the background (although most folks say it's not possible right now), video recorder, night mode for camera, or Sirius/XM internet streamer similar to SiriusWM5 (I'm not sure that one is possible at the moment either...). Of course, you could create widgets (something more simple) but the source code won't be available to next year allegedly.
- Office suite (word and excel file editor)
- Youtube downloader from phone (like iphone mxtube)
- Super Mario Chronicles !!!!!
- FlightGear portable
- compiz fusion !! (not important but just tto test phone power to my friend that have an Iphone)
- More widget

You can view contacts in groups - Contacts - Menu - Display Group (created on GMAIL page).
Ringtones to groups would be nice, but for now you may just display a group and assign them all a ringtone
The long press to dial/save numbers in SMS has been addressed and should be in the final version of Android 1.0.
A birthday? Ehrmm.... Would personally prefer that to stay where it is (in my calendar).
I would like it to integrate the Dialer and searching for contacts, so i can just start typing a name or a number and it would show me the matching contacts. (I think SpellDial does this but is not very robust).
Thanks

Thank you very much for the input guys, I really appreciate it. These lists are definitely getting the creative juices flowing... I will see what I can put together.
If possible I will open source the beta version of my first program and post the beta packages here on xda for everyone to use without charge... I am still learning the whole process so we will see what happens in the end
Thank you for the suggestions, and I am still open to hearing more
I guess "simple" is also relative to your level of proficiency in Java and mobile development. As far as holes in the shipped operating system that could use fixing, there are many points to attack. Some could be done in the JVM, others would have to be done in native c. Examples include:
An office suite
Video recording
Touchscreen text input (API will expose this in 09Q1)
A simple but high-quality word or puzzle game would be great tho.
Edit: welcome aboard the Android side too ;-)

I agree with you 100%, the system stuff sounds good, but of the posted ideas and from what I have seen there is a small demand for "simple" games, and this is the direction I plan on going initially, games are fun to make and they should give me a decent overview of what is involved in throwing together an app.
As far as my java proficiency... I can definitely get by. I have a few websites that rely completely on the google web toolkit, and my bachelors degree was typical of an early 2008 CS curriculum, 2 years of java to learn what OO programming is, and then 2 years of C to learn about the fun stuff (pointers, threads, compilers, OS's, etc...). but like I said before I am just looking to make a traditional application, and I think that it is going to end up being a game of some sort,
I don't have a device yet, if I get one it would be pretty much a development only device, so I am trying to get my feet wet with an app or 2 before I decide to get one. I did manage to get a few minutes with a G1 today and I must say that the device feels so much better than my Titan, that capacitive touchscreen is awesome.
Once I get something going I will startup a new project on google code so I can take advantage of the free svn server and start posting my progress

Capacitive touch screens feel great and and quite responsive but they do have their caveats too. The main one is that accuracy of input is lower than with a stylus. You'll have to keep that in mind when you design the UI. You can scale the size of the emulator on screen to match an actual G1's physical screen size (emulated pixels might be mangled though).

[Q] New Windows Mobile 6.5 skin for clock and calendar settings

Please dont be harsh on me but this is something I have searched for extensively, asked many chefs, but none has ever returned with a relevant answer. Hence I am posting a new thread. Moderators, I do not know if this is worth starting a new thread for. But I need your help people.
I do not even know how to clearly put forth the query I have, but i'll still try.
As my title says, I need to know how to enable or acquire the new settings screen that appears in 6.5 when we enter Clock Settings. Its a circular ticking clock like pattern instead of the old simple ugly looking grid. The new one has swiping capabilities and appears when we enter Clock Setting, or set the time for a New Appointment. Also, I would love to have the new skinned beautiful looking date selection page (if thats what its called) in Calendar. I am using a ROM that does not have this, whereas I have seen others that all have these skins.
Nearly 200 visits, yet no reply? Please guys help me out with this. Am I not being clear enough?
