Greets,
I have been watching the tilt since last July, anxiously awaiting it release. Then, it came out to somewhat limited available, followed immediately by the removal of the reasonably priced unlimited data plan from AT&T premiere. So I never bit.
Its been about 1-1/2 months since it came out, and there are so many good reviews, and so many bad bad bad reviews of the Tilt. Negative reviews talk about (i) battery life, (ii) sluggishness, (iii) camera, (iv) speakerphone, and (v) crashes.
This all said ... should I take the plunge? Any thoughts?!?!?
Thanks!

there's no better phone out in the U.S.. Not sure about europe. so depends on where you live.
(i) battery life ----Improved with tweaks
(ii) sluggishness, ---Only a few applications are sluggish. most are replaceable with better.
(iii) camera, ---- this is a phone with a decent camera. Not the other way around.
(iv) speakerphone, --- sucks
and (v) crashes.--- not at all with a new ROM
Are you actually gonna use the features or more like a gadget envy?
I've been a palm/treo user for 4 years and i've been waiting for them to come out with a wi-fi. Im still waiting as we speak.
As for me buying a kaiser? Well, i got tired of waiting for a wifi for a treo and to be honest, i want a new gadget. Most of the stuff that i can do with my Treo 650/680 can be done with my kaiser.
And i wanna dip my hands to winblows. It's still sluggish compared to my palm. But i do learn a lot of tricks everytime i read this site. I bought mine unlocked so unless you're going to buy the tilt this black friday for a good deal, i say do it .
Im happy with mine. Good luck!

Well, I cant tel you what to do, but I can tell you what I think about mine.
Battery Life- Its not the best with the default settings. But with some minor adjustments (like brightness settings, backlight\screen power off timers, and auto disconnect timers), I can get a day out of it easy, and others have gotten more. But for all the things the Kaiser (Tilt) can do, I think the battery life is probably about right with today's current technology.
Sluggishness- The default AT&T ROM does have slowdown it times, so that is true. Other ROM's are faster, I use Sleuth's 1.0 ROM.
Camera- It takes decent pictures, but I wouldnt count on it to take great pictures, or pictures of a special event. To me, its for pictures when youre out with friends messing around, or when you need quick improptu pictures, like on a job site. Admittedly, there are other phones that have better camera's, like the Nokia N95, but thats 5MP vs 3MP.
Speakerphone- Its not the best, my last phone (Samsung C417) had a better one, I get a couple of "huh"'s that I didnt get on my other phone. But overall, it gets the job done when needed until I can get a new headset.
Crashes- I only ran the stock AT&T ROM for about two days, but it never crashed during that time. Ive been running Sleuth's 1.0 ROM for a solid week and it hasnt crashed once. I think some of the problems people have may be related to the software they are running. Ive used all the features on the phone with well written programs, and I havent had any major issues. I think the worst issue Ive had was that Windows Live Mobile stopped responding when it the GPS was looking for satellites and I tried to close the program, but I havent been able to repeat it so Im writing it up as a fluke. (I was able to close it with the Task Manager, BTW)
Im more than pleased with mine, and I plan on keeping it for a very long time. Also, depending on where you are in the country, AT&T is selling ALL their phones for 50% off, including the Tilt. Not a bad deal.
I was gonna hit up compusa for the $199 Tilt deal with 2yr contract this weekend (part of their black friday deals) but on Teusday I went on newegg.com and found the tilt for $175 plus a $25.00 MIR from ATT.
I ordered at around 4:00PM EST Teusday and I had the phone on Wednesday at around 2:00PM, and I didnt even pay for rush processing.
Also the newegg deal only requires a voice plan to get the price advertised. The compusa deal required you to get a data plan as well (and their PDA data plans are expensive, better off adding MediaMax later on).
I am still waiting for my sim to be activated (ported number over from T-Mobile) but so far I love it. I didnt upgrade the rom yet, I am going to play around with the default ATT one for a while, but no issues at all so far and I have been using all kinds of apps.
I would say if your thinking about it, nows the time to go for it. I doubt you'll find a price better then 150 anytime soon.

It really depends on what phone you have now. If you have an 8525 or any phone within that generation, I'd recommend sticking with that. The Tilt is really a step backwards in my opinion. HTC took SO many shortcuts on this phone that it really suffers a lot as a whole. I've never actually had much of a problem with battery life myself, but that's because I usually never go for more than a day without access to a charger. The sluggishness is quite noticeable compared to my older phone, on top of which HTC didn't bother to provide driver support so that's not something that will ever be fixable anytime soon. The camera is the worst one I've ever had on a phone, and that is including previous 1.3 mp "dumbphones". It's really that bad. Anyone who says "oh it's a phone first, then a camera," should get off these boards and go back to RAZRs. It's people like them that let HTC get away with cutting corners like this. I find the camera unusable in anything but very brightly lit conditions, and the auto-focus is attrocious, leading to long lag times and blurry pictures. The speakerphone is rather quiet for me, my last phone's was much louder, but it gets the job done. As for crashes, I think that's more an issue of the ROM you're using. The stock Kaiser ROM was rock solid for me, duttythroy's Cube ROM made my phone unusable with the number of crashes, Sleuth's is pretty good but with an occasional lockup, so it really all depends. So again, if you have a halfway decent phone now, wait for something better to come along. If you absolutely need a new ppc, you might take the plunge if you find a good deal.
Pricing ... and TRIED to buy
Went to an AT&T store with their big sale. It is 50% so they would charge you $249.99 and you get a $100 rebate. They were, however, out of stock.
I went onto Premiere and they are making the same exact offer ... of course, you don't walk out with it, but you are already set up with premiere pricing.
I think I will go for it.
Should I return the TILT???
I was depending on this being an mp3 player/video player/phone/fun/office device. ALL IN ONE being key!!
This device has dissapointed me on the multimedia end for obvious reasons as I can't even drag and drop SD DIVX Shows!!
Is there a device that can do all this that I should get instead since I'm in my 30 days???? What would you do?
Thanks for any advice....

I am also in the same boat. I was expecting more from it when it came to playing movies and just overall performance. Don't know if I should return it to newegg and void the att contract. Or if it would be better to keep the contract, sell the phone on ebay, and use that money to buy a different phone.
return them
I would return them, and buy Iphones.
Iphones have by far the best web browsing available short of having a pc, which is what I was hoping for out of my tilt. Now that i know my web browsing issues are because htc didnt provide drivers, i feel like im missing a huge part of what this phone should have been and it is very disappointing.
Take It Back
return it...
RETURN IT
why? well the more HTC get returned etc the quicker they will pull their finger out and correct things and not allow such stupid mistakes
Just make damn sure that when you return it; you tell them WHY.
Hmm... The new 8gb Nokia N95 has just come out... Looks rather nice too...
All of you whom own a Tilt / Tytn II, T-mobile or other clone distributed by carriers should return this piece of ****ty hardware when not satisfied with the video performance.
Indeed, AT&T certainly would not have counted on such a return (and loss ) and will raise this towards HTC as loss of business.
Just return the ****ty thing and buy something that does what it's supposed to do.
And, for your own good, never buy anything coming from HTC. They're crooks, hypocrites and arrogant bastards who think that their customers are of a low enough IQ to be mocked in their face and still want to feed HTC money (this is exactly what comes out from their official response to the driver issue).

Yup. I bought my tilt last week so I still have two weeks to decide. I would return it today if i could figure out a replacement that does everything the Tilt does but better. I would personally rather have the Tilt than an Iphone even with the problems, and that nokia isn't doing it for me.
If you don't mind losing the internal GPS and the extra ram you could downgrade to the 8525 (Hermes). Nice thing is that there price has dropped considerably since the Tilt came out. For awhile there AT&T was selling them for $99...so you could probably find another site out there somewhere that would give it to you even better than this.
I'll trade someone my 8525 for their Kaiser
ha, I can't believe what im reading here! are u guys really that bitter. I honestly feel that even when (if) htc releases the fix, MOST of us will not notice a big difference in our daily use. I compare it to a bluetooth keyboard I purchased. before I bought it, I was going crazy, thinking I needed one, etc. once I got it, I don't think I've ever used it.
don't get me wrong, I would love the drivers, but other than that I love my phone. great internet, great gps, full keyboard, etc. there is honestly no other phone id rather have.
My Warranty ends tomorrow. I think im just going to keep the damn thing. Sure the video converting sucks. but, I got the Camera to work (thanks to Navadi), and I havnt watched a movie on my mobile in awhile. At least the reception is flawless. I have better reception than most of my friends and family. with the same provider, AT&T.
In my house NO ONE gets reception. and I can have a full conversation inside my house perfectly.
My brother who owns the Iphone. He has to walk outside in order to talk on his phone.
Oh and yeah the full keyboard is much better than the Iphone at Texting.
Oh and dont get me wrong I am disappointed with HTC with the way they are handling this situation. Atleast be helpful, rather than leaving us with a "F**k you, we got your money, you got what you paid for." what they did was false advertise.
The problem is, in the U.S. The phone is still better than majority of all the other phones out there. OBviously not in Europe. but here. Yeah.
I've had both the iPhone (Returned it) and now I have the TILT...i prefer the tilt.
I know the video situation sucks but I think the phone is still good overall
I had this phone for almost two months now and I have not experienced anything that has turned me away from another HTC device. I purchased it with only 35mins of call time for only $210 and I believe its worth double that. My life has become more organized, I get much better reception, I can use the internet at decent speeds, hell and the video quality isn't that bad, i got TT6, and so on.
I've really enjoyed this device, xda, and the learning process.
i've paid 800 cdn when it first came out and dont regret one bit...yes maybe there are issues with the phone but which phone is perfect? its all about personal prefs and give and take..to me this phone is good and i can live with whatever wrong with it...having said that its not the perfect phone cuz everyone wants this n that...i'll still switch over to the x1 just because its new and id like to try it out...if its not good then i'll go back to kaiser...if kaiser isnt good...maybe i'll look into another machine...but a phone is a phone...its not perfect...unless we manufacture our own phones
Since most forums are essentially self-help groups, it's not such a surprise. When I think of my previous WM5 i-mate - the hourly soft re-sets, unreadable screen in sunlight, constant need to re-calibrate the screen, poor receptoion (even though at the time I thought it was the coolest thing) - I thank my lucky stars!
chuk
i agree, its not perfect and the camera is rubbish, i still have the hermes and i prefer the camera on that but, updated hardware and built in gps does it for me.
People should start complaining about things that matter!
I'm irritated on principle about the driver issue - I strongly believe they should have supplied whatever software support was necessary to get the best out of the hardware, because we all paid for the latter and we shouldn't have to get it working ourselves.
On the other hand, generally the performance is acceptable and as a whole the device works very well. I'd probably be more annoyed if I'd paid a lot of money for it, but as it was quite cheap for me I'm more than happy with it overall. But HTC need to take note of the driver furore and the damage it's quite fairly done to their reputation.

I don't! ;-)
No, seriously: I thinks that's a false impression. In this forum you will find a lot of perfectionists who always want to get out the most of their phones. And even if they do, they still look forward in buying the next generation. At least that description fits me. ;-)
I don't complain about mine and I was one of the first people in my area to buy one. I Think someone cried wolf regarding the video driver and now everyone wants to be cool too. I would like to see them but my phone kicks other phones butts for breakfast.
I was perfectly happy with my 8125 (Wizard) until I saw Engadget's preview of the Tilt. I immediately pre-ordered it through AT&T Premier, and had it in hand on launch day. Even though I will probably buy the Xperia sometime next year, I am in no rush to get rid of my Tilt.
As a noob to the whole genre of ppc's... I have to admit from everything i have seen here at work with other pda's and ppc's, My tilt kicks the s--t out of the rest. I know there are complaints about the video drivers but f--k it, i didnt buy my tilt to watch videos... i bought it to take care of my daily needs for when i cant get to my computer....
Probably because it is human nature to complain......
I've had mine since the first of October 07, and haven't really had any issues.
I had to return it because the USB port died. Didn't really like the camera
until the hotfix came out, which pretty much fixed the camera issue for me.
Exactly... Ive upgraded like twice and got the fixes I wanted and I'll tell you I wont get rid of this phone for awhile.
I think the only real reason for a complaint is the driver issue...
people had expectations that the device would out perform a hermes for video playback because of the data sheet and the graphics chip. Then when people got it and it shuddered and such due to no driver support people got mad.
I understand, people bought the phone expecting one thing, spent a lot of $$ and it did not meet there expectations.
Maybe it was their bad for having expectations but, they were founded on qualcomms own marketing for the 7200 chip.
Oh I understand what you're saying about the driver issues, I'd be pissed too if I had bought for those issues. Its HTC/Qualcomms f--- up for putting out the ifo like they did. They have a right to be upset if they bought the phones expecting something that wasnt delivered.
No complaints on my side so far! XDA helped with any issues and couln't be happier. I too will look into the SE Xperia but the Tilt will stay
If it weren't for me finding XDA I probably wouldn't have figured out the possibilities of my tilt. And I have found some really awesome stuff for it.
Sure, I am annoyed that my Kaiser is not being all that it could be as its missing some drivers, but I still like it and don't think I have ever complained.
However, I liked my Hermes. If I had not broken it I would probably not have upgraded when my contract ends in June (I only want a 12 month contract max and am a student, so not a heavy spender and can't really afford £150 for the handset as well as the contract).
I see a note about a HTC Raphael - it might get me to upgrade, but then I might just ignore it as I don't dislike the kaiser. It's not like the Wizard which really annoyed me by the time I upgraded. At the moment the only thing I am interested in is moving to a rolling 1 month contract (which is not a bad deal) and I might buy the Raphael without a contract.
The tilt is the best phone i've ever had. Who says the camera is rubbish?! did you see the panoramic shots some dude took and posted here. Those are clear as crystal. I mean geez people want a perfect cell phone with nikon capabilities. People can't seem to remember that it's a PHONE!!.. if you look at how far we've gotten in technology it isn't a bad device. I personally won't get the Xperia. I'll wait for the next HTC launch. Videos play fine on my phone and I have full movies on my SD card and stream music and videos from my home pc with no problems. People just like *****ing. Like I said before nobody started *****ing until Bill Nye the Science guy started that driver post.
read my signature..
remember people... quest for perfection ends at you feeling empty and betrayed.
I have taken mine to Hell and back ...the fact that it still works is amazing
I realise it has some drawbacks..but I am fine with it. Not changing it anytime soon.
Im quite happy with my tytnII had it for six months now,it is a shame that the drivers are not there for the imageon card, mainly because im a bit of a gamer and was looking forward to seeing what it was capable of.
Unfortunately it seems its not upto much, the slow down on call of duty is laughable i think my nokia 6680 could out peform it.
That aside i am very pleased with it.
If it wasnt that i was put onto this site by someone i probably would have sent it back (HTC TAKE NOTE)...I got this phone free on cotract at the time they were going for £440 pound on ebay i would have been seriously pissed if id paid cash for it outright.
A set of drivers would be sooooo nice,so keep putting in the hard work those who are working on them, and thanks to xda devs a invaluable lifeline to many.
In your opinions, I have enough money for the N1, but is it worth paying $530 for it? Are you guys who payed for it completely satisfied with your purchase? No remorse?
Thanks.
There are lesser android phones/phones in general that cost more than $530. I am more than satisfied with my phone.
Thats good! I'm leaning on my desk thinking about pushing the "Buy" button, and I think (...Know...) I have my answer.
Worth every penny.
Where do you live? How's T-mobile's 3G saturation where you live? If you definitely want to stay with T-mobile, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd wait.
I'm with AT&T, so I have to pay $530 for the unlocked model. My friend tried their 3G and Edge coverage with TMO, and in San Francisco, it isn't anything specially, AT&T has better here.
wait,

it only works on EDGE on AT&T ... but as for now t-mobile is a faster network.. HSDPA soon to be HSDPA+ at least here in NYC / LI .. other than that.. this is BY FAR the best phone ive ever even seen... always get comments on it.. and that display is just gorgeous
couple things to assess here from my point of view...
who is your carrier and how is their service in your area? Since you have ATT you will not have 3g, if you will have access to wifi most of the time i would say this balances it out, but N1 on edge seems pointless to me... i would say thats a "dont buy point"
what is your current phone? in my situation, i upgraded from the HTC Excalibur (the Tmobile Dash) so 530 dollars gave me a night and day difference... if you are going from a comparable level phone i would say its not worth full price... unless is one of this icky iphones...
what else can you do with 530 bux? it is a good chunk of money that you can do a number of other things with, so it really is a matter of how bad do you want the phone... for me i worked myself up to buy the thing until i finally cracked and broke the credit card out ...
for me, it was an excellent buy... i went from an old school windows mobile phone to a top of the line android phone so it was literally a night and day difference and I can do so much more with my N1 that i ever dreamed possible... it was worth every penny to me, but will it be for you? I had no idea really what i was buying, i had no experience with android, hell i had to figure out how the OS worked when i got the phone lol
i was real resistant to buy this phone, as i have plenty of things i need to spend 500 on, before the phone.
anyway, last week i got mine, and coming from the moded g1's, even with the awesome mods n such, this phone kills any of them.
its nice to have a phone respond, and do what its told, when clicked.
500$ was worth every mila-second i dont have to wait, ever again.
especially when my ride just left, as i walked out the door, and my
phone has a locked screen, or other random issue, causing me to
panicly push too many buttons, thus freezing the phone more, and
causing a reboot... giving my ride even more time, to get far enough

see how far that 500$ got me? worth every penny.
Zing.

amen, even when I have like 30 apps running in Modaco's Desire ROM it all works perfectly. My boy who has an iPhone 3GS saw my phone, played around with it and his first words were "Holy F%CK this is fast" I then grabbed the phone and checked ATM and I had 27 tasks running and only 69mb's left of RAM and everything was super responsive....granted he wasn't too impressed when I loaded up the the Cyan ROM (which visually compared to Desire is lacking) but still, he will be buying a Nexus One
and docsparks...you should change ur sig, I just changed mine from G1 to Nexus.
People don't buy this phone for it's superior sound quality, nor excellent coverage 3G/H/etc.
$530 is cheap. Maybe you aren't used to buying unlocked phones, but around the world an unlocked 3GS costs in the region of $750-800, and it's a far, far inferior phone that's nearly a year old. Taken a look at the prices of unlocked Sony Satio, Nokia X6 or N97 lately? They're all pieces of **** with garbage hardware, abso-****ing-lutely terrible software (Symbian!), inferior everything. They're all priced at $640-727 respectively. How about the LG Chocolate BL40? Retails at over $700, and it's a goddamn feature phone.
$530 is nothing.
Look at it this way, the N1 sells for HIGHER than the $530 pricetag on eBay. There's currently no other phone out there with comparable hardware specs.
Buy the thing now, if you decide you don't like it (within the 15 days), you can return it to Google for refund (without the fee). If you decide you don't like it after that, throw it on eBay and sell it for at least what you paid.
...For me, I love my N1.
No wai!
Don't listen to all these guys.
It's totally NOT worth it!
The N1 is terrible.
Get the iPhone. MUCH better device.

What kind of responses were you expecting to find here? lol
it cost me $250 and that's the most i'd personally pay for a phone. My phone is rooted and all that goodness but all in all - the only reason i gave up my G1 is because of the speed. (or lack of). I'm a conservative person but i like having nice things so i bit the bullet and found 1 on Craigslist for $400, then i sold my G1 for $150 = $250 total out of pocket. Love the N1, but would never pay $530 for a phone. That's nearly the price of a 42inch TV you can find nowadays, or a PS3 and a XBOX360, or like 2 1/2 car payments...all for a phone?!?!
To put it in perspective, i paid 700 for N1 to get it in toronto. I only have edge but i still love the phone and think it was worth every penny.
I genuinely have no complaints about the phone.
For me it was worth the $530. I am on deployment right now, so when we pulled into port in Thailand we were offered local SIM cards if we wanted. To be able to pop the card in, buy basically 300 minutes for $7 and be able to talk to my family while I was there was so worth it.
Knowing that when I go back to Japan for the rest of this det I can do the same thing, worth it.
Knowing that I can learn to develop my own apps without having to buy a mac or pay $100 developers fee, worth it.
I have TMo service at home and have been happy with it, in AZ only Verizon offers 3g so I don't miss that. I had an unlocked 1stgen iPhone and edge was fast enough for the browsing that I did so no loss there. Plus when I travel I can still get 3g if they have it. So for me it was completely worth the $530. Now I just have to wait for manufacturers to give us some nice cases.

That's a bingo [movie reference]
It came out to $579 with tax and the best $579 I have ever spent. It's definitely worth every bit of it. I think it is definitely the best phone out. I never buy a phone unless I think it's superior to any other phone on the market. Rooted or Not Rooted you're going to love it. There is absolutely no waiting on anything. The only thing that has to "load" is Google Navigation because it's loading a lot of information. Even then, we're talking 5 seconds at most. I do remember using my G1 and MyTouch and getting in a rush and freezing the phone. Most irritating thing in the world. An example of the N1 speed: When I receive an SMS I pull down the notification and click the message. Before the notification bar has time to return the message has already appeared underneath it.
It mostly depends on what you want. If you like using your phone for more than making calls then I would say go for it. I've had up to 49 apps running at once with zero lag. One thing I can tell you before you get one is to read the link in my signature about getting a Task Killer and DON'T get one
Because I live in Norway, I "had" to pay about $820-830 for it. I would do it again.
It is the best phone I have had or tried.
I returned my Nook and got a new one and was amazed at how much better the screen is. Mine had a slight bleed at the bottom I wasn't sure if that was all of them or not.
Anyways aside from the bleed gone, the screen is much more vibrant and clear. Just an fyi if anyone has a weird screen don't settle!
Cool, mine has a dead pixel that appeared only 2 days after I purchased it - I've been debating whether or not it's worth the time to reflash back to stock, etc... etc... and exchange it. I think I will.
My first nook had white splotches on the screen. I took it back to the store and the guy wouldn't exchange it. As soon as I told him I wanted my money back he changed his mind and gave me another one. He was a ****.
Then, after a week, the nook started creaking and squeaking all around the bezel. I called to get it exchanged. They said I had to go into the store. I went into the store. They said I had to do it online or on the phone. I called on the phone and argued with some lady for 30 minutes after which she told me that if I sent my current nook back and they didn't think anything was wrong with it, they'd charge me $250. I hung up and called right back and got a woman who was ok and told me the other lady was an idiot. Thanks guys.
I received my third nook in the mail. The A/C charger jack was broken. I couldn't put the jack in. So i called to get this replaced and argued with some guys in India for an hour and finally got a replacement.
I'm on my 4th nook. Barnes and Noble sucks and I will never buy another electronic device from them again.
Yeah I was not impressed with their phone support either. All these companies not only outsourcing to India but only allowing the support person to use scripted conversation is even worse.
I called to deregister a device since I forgot to deregister before returning a NC and the lady was an idiot reading from a script she didn't even understand.
Roku is another horrible company for India scripted phone support.
Unfortunaley India gets beat up a lot by Americans for this when it might not be so bad if the scripts were taken away and they just hired smarter people.
I got mine at best buy, and getting it replaced for the phantom ghost tap issue was easy as pie. The new one works great. The girl at the counter was kinda cute too, so it was like win-win!

My wife and I both got a NC, same store, about a month apart. Both of ours work perfectly.
Don't assume because you had 2 problematic NC's doesn't mean everyone has, or that overall quality is bad. (Yes, I said 2.)
The only issue with my screen is some binding/pinching where the bezel meets the LCD which causes slight bright spots at the bottom edge. I've seen this same issue with lower quality LCD monitors. Otherwise pleased with screen quality. Having worked in electronics manufacturing, I came to learn how variable quality control can be with some manufacturers.
Best Buy has one month reuturns but after that your screwed unless u buy insurance. my 1st NC ate an 8 gig microUSB and started bleeding by the vol. B&N took sent another straight away with postage paid for the return. NO PROB and they do have a vibrant screen from all angles.
a case would keep your nook safe from most screen probs, and be shure to line up your mcards.

Technically yes, but they will help with warrenty issues after that date to some degree as well.

I did buy the insurance, but didn't have to use it even though it was something like 45 days or more after I bought it. I brought it in planning to use the insurance (which is a one time shot apparently), but she told me they could just do it as a warranty exchange since it was so new. I'm not really sure how long they extend it for, but I was happy.

Wow, yeah, my post was just soooo long.
If you read it, it said I had three bad nooks (Yes, I said 3). I never said everyone has bad ones. I said I won't buy from them again because their support sucks and their products are defective.
Maybe next time you comment on a post, read it first.
My first NC was defective. It had a bad accelerometer and/or a bad power button. Essentially, if you set it down occasionally it would act as if you pressed and held the power button and then tapped OK to shut down the tablet.
Here's a vid I took of it to convince the BN store staff I wasn't going nuts:

I'd bought the extended warranty but this happened within the first week of ownership. I talked to the manager of the store where I bought it and she swapped it for a new one and applied the warranty to NC #2. I'd heard the phone support was horrible, so made it a point to buy it locally. I'm glad I did.
I'm loving my new one. I'm going to Hawaii in a week and, for the first time in my life, will be travelling without a laptop. All I'm taking is my NC and a BT keyboard for it.
Are you sure you had a problem? Because khaytsus bought one for himself and his wife and didn't have any issues LOL
Wow, good thing the store owner was helpful. The guy on staff at my local BN refused to do anything and said all returns or exchanges definitely needed to go through the website.
I'm still not happy with my current Nook. The panel below the "N" button is depressed on both sides. But I'm sticking with it for now.
Backlight bleeding is pretty much the norm for any LCD screen. I've seen it on desktop monitors, TVs, laptops, tablets...etc. It will exist on even on the top of the line models and "best" brands.
If you just have only some slight backlight bleeding, I would discourage you from trying to exchange it. You're likely to get something worse like dead pixels.
I spent half an hour one the support line a second ago because my USB cable fried. The lady tried to have me enter my credit card number for some reason so I could buy "NOOKBooks". I argued with her for about 5 minutes and then she told me all I need to enter is my shipping address. She said that they would mail the replacement cable free of charge in 24 to 48 hours.
I didn't spend anytime on hold even though the automated message said that they are flooded with tech support calls.

Smarter people ask for a lot of money (if they are paying more money then whats the point of outsourcing) even in India only those who can't really find another job for themselves take up job's in call center's.
well I just returned my nook with a transformer incoming... i sure hope it has as good of a screen or ill prob end up another nook. lol
