Isnt it sad? I have restarted my phone and was reading morning news for a while... I have only 15 MB free after start up (some process in background). I often get out of memory exception, programs cant paint graphics (can only acces menu), programs closing after while. My older smartphone (Qtek 8500) has much bigger RAM.
I have to have several restarts a day.
I believe its a real shame on htc
I have program 15.29mb and storage 18.87mb
what do yyou have installed that you have only 2mb free ram?

Just run and close Resco Explorer, Gentimer and few other programs. Then checked mails and started read rss and open links in internet explorer.
I have like 12MB free after restart- DontForget 2.0 is in the autostart, that's it
It's so damn sad. Is there gonna be a solution?!
I install most of the programs on my storage card and why would you have all that open at one time? close it when you are finished and open another one!!!
after hardreset, and the first time you you see my today screen, after 3 seconds the phone will start to install application. well I soft reset my phone before that and so I end up with more free space!
Is this a problem? Was just thinking about getting one but i don't like this RAM issue.
Is it a problem at all?
well it's an issue to me, not being able to launch as many apps as I used to launch with my vox is a real problem. Especially since i'm a big messenger user so I have to let skype and IM+ running in background all the time.
As there is no such thing as ram extention in this kind of phone, I'm considering returning the phone. Which is a shame because apart from that i'm quite happy with it.
I fount this!

It is definately a must have. The memory clear tool works like a charm. Using the built in task manager it clears me up from 3 - 5 megs after some heavy use in many programs. Right after that I went into its memory cleaner and it put me up to 15 free in less than a second. Not a lot free but its just about as high as anyone has seen which makes it very usable. And SK tools has a bunch of other really good built in tools.
I'll mirror it for a little while and edit in a link to where I downloaded it from. I am heading out and dont have the time to dig it up right now.

It looks like that has a built in task manager that is performing better than the stock one from what other users have said, (about the alpha 4 version) However it could work better if not just as well as the one I posted about in that other forum.
The biggest difference I can see between the two applications is Smart Toolkit looks like more of a GUI update to windows with a possible update to how task manager works. SkTools is just a program designed to clean up the phone, registry, memory, space and such by finding things your phone doesnt need and deleting them.
I just found an updated release from Nov 13th which I might download and put on to see how well it works Being able to organize my start menu would greatly help lol, the default is such a disorganized mess.

I agree! The 'official' version is here: http://s-k-tools.com/sktools/sktoolslite.zip
I've put a link to the FreeUP RAM app in my start menu and use Auto SoftReset to reboot the phone at 3am every day. Seems to be working ok - when I unlock the phone in the morning it reports around 17MB free after cleaning things up.
I've had a few lockups though - usually when trying to set up Facade or Papyrus. I think I'll leave them off for now. It's a shame - except for this, and the restrictive OS compared to PPC (or WM6 Pro or whatever it's called today), it's a great phone! Having HSDPA is brill!
This is NOT a solution. Can this issue be solved with ROM update?

How much RAM
Hi. I'm having the same RAM issues, but how much free RAM is smartphones supposed to have? It's annoying having to think about having enough memory all the time.

Hi guys, tried to play a couple of short videos on Youtube on my Diamond today and it wont play them, instead it just says "Device Memory is Low". I haven't made any changes to my phone since I played videos on it a couple of days ago and it worked fine then.
I am using Dutty V2.8.
Memory wise it says:
Storage:
Total - 115.05 MB
In Use - 24.30 MB
Free - 90.75 MB
Program:
Total - 115.03 MB
In Use - 102.56 MB
Free - 12.45 MB
I am a complete amateur when it comes to anything technical so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Matt
looking at your program memory it seems to me that you have been installing your programs to the device and not the internal storage try uninstalling and reinstalling a few to free up some memory
Same problem on mine
I have downloaded every piece of software to the internal storage and still only have anywhere from 8 - 11 Meg available. I am wondering if my Outlook database is taking up a lot of the memory? Does anyone know if that is the problem and if so, how can you move that data to the internal storage?

My Outlook is storing the files in the internal storage by default. You can check it, in the program settings.
edit: Some program is storing files in device memory too, for nothing choose you the internal storage!

I'd like to know is that normal or is there something wrong with his device?
my storage size is only 89mb (total available) as compared with your 100mb
storage size is dependent on your ROM (guess my carrier's rom uses lotsa space :/)
I think the low memory message refers to program memory not storage memory. 12.45MB free is very low, maybe the device needs a soft reset.
I'd advise flashing with a new ROM at some point, some ROMS are configured for better program memory.
This is my Diamond, and it is OK .
The best solution for saving memory (TouchFlo3D is working but phone is outside)
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin"
REG_DWORD from 1 to 0
what does that reregistry hack do?
you could use a registry tweak to store the email on your storage card
HKLM\System\Inbox\PropertyPath
then set the location you want the email stored as a string value.
you may have to create the PropertyPath value if it is not already created

If you are using Diamond normaly, the memory usage after couple of days will be bigger and bigger even if you close all runing programs.
If you make this registry changes (and restart Diamond), your memory usage (after you close programs) will be constant .
sorry for my english

To clarify the situation, this hack improves the memory situation by up to 10MB by disabling the HTC Diamond dialer. It is the same tweak that can be found in Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool and DiamondTweak, enabling the standard WM dialer instead.
This dialer is an ugly retro grey colour but does work more quickly than the Diamond one. For skins and more information, see my signature.
I fixed my "low storage memory" problem by simply clearing the cache, cookies, and history from Opera. I was as low as .02 at one point, and now I'm back up to 25MB! Hope that fixes people's problems.

I had the same experience recently: low memory warnings from Windows which I sorted by clearing Opera's cache.
I'm actually half-convinced there's a bug in the build I've got because, even though I've specified that the browser cache shouldn't use more than 4MB, whenever I clear it out I reclaim much more space than that so I just try and remember to clear it out relatively often.
ok, 1st post here so go easy guys. i have bought a brand new diamond and i have been very careful to install any software to the internal storage, rather than the phone itself yet since day 1 i have only had 8mb of memory free on my device, is this normal for the diamond or am i just overlooking something?

Memory... are we talking 'Storage' or 'RAM'? It may seem an obvious question, but if you've installed all your software to 'Internal Storage', there's no way you've only got 8MB of storage left!
What you're probably seeing is 8MB of RAM, in which case you need to close some programs and use a good memory management program to clear up some RAM. I use MemMaid and before you moan, yes, you do have to pay for it
Check if your programs are closing when you push the x button. As far as I remember the default setting is to minimize a program when the x button is pushed, in which case the program does not close and keeps on using device memory. To change it you have to go to settings>system>task manager then go to the button tab and check ënd programs by tapping "x"".
Good luck

nope, i definately mean storage,

Total: 84.56MB

Free: 8.15MB
Program memory is fine, i have a constant 50MB Free on that, give or take a little depending on which programs im running.
ok so i spent the last hour on a deleting spree, anything i thought i didnt need (a lot of .cab files in the windows directory) was deleted, and heres how things stand now.

Try the ROM section!
lol, ok thank you
ok i have done a tremendous amount of reading and it seems if i install a new rom
a) i have to hard reset which is a major problem for me
b) i may brick my phone which i just cannot afford to do.
i have got to the point now where i only have 3MB storage free and theres no way of getting any more. any ideas people, there must be more than just me that has this problem.
nobody have any ideas?
I'm also only having 3MB storage only after clearing all the temp files in Opera IE google map etc... Will move from 1.93 to 2.03 so can have a fresh start...
Anyway I'm also trying to figure out what is causing such memory "loss"... Really want to know if those Manila modification / editing results in backup files stored in device? If yes can I move them to Card, or if I'm satisfy with the mod, simply delete them? Thanks
i am finding that same problem, even if i install stuff to storage card it still uses a small amount of internal memory. there is loads of stuff in the windows directory which i want to delete but cant. for example, .cab files for **** programs i dont use such as google maps.
i am leaning towards a new rom but
a) i have windows vista and you cant connect via activesync on vista
b) is it really as dangerous as people make out. i really realy dont want to wreck my phone is there not a ROM i can practice on that wont do my phone any harm.
c) do HTC release new roms or do people on here just make them
BTW. if a mod thinks this is more suited to another section of the forum, feel free to move it and change the topic title.
not that anybody cares but someone with memory issues might read this and be helped out. i installed a new ROM (Duttys 3.6b) with a new radio and i'm happy as a pig in ****.
i have the same programs installed as before but now have 80MB Free storage space
Check your message storing.. all your email and text messages get stored in your windows directory by default. You can use a program like SKTools to move the default to your internal storage card.. also you can clean out by deleting all files in \windows\messaging (you lose stored email) or by "clear..." in your menu on your email tab.
Also you can connect vista machines but you download WindowsMobileDeviceCenter instead.. same program as activesync but for Vista machines.
i had to download the new WindowsMobileDeviceCenter to install the rom so that works fine now. i cleared literally everything on the phone including internet history texts emails, everything. and still only had less than 5mb left. runs so much better on a new rom.
Hello i have a major problem with my HTC diamond. I am trying to run Garmin Mobile XT and it wont run because i dont have enough memory. After a soft reset, in the memory settings i get :

}
No wonder it wont run. Trying to see which program is eating up my memory i open my task manager and i get this:
The processes displayed there only use up 20 maybe MBs of memory. What happened to the rest? any thoughts? Anyone else with similar problems?
Upon searching these forums i found out about MemMaid and thought about trying it. I downloaded the trial and it shows me the same results. Please help me.
I think its cus you've installed programmes onto your ''Device'' instead of your ''Internal storage'' ....My advice is to install EVERYTHING onto your internal storage...That section of your memory is used to actually run programmes not really to store them. Its either that or you've just got to many programmes running constantly from startup in the backround...hope this helps...
Remember, Diamond is a WM 6.1 device, the program memory is not afected by the installed software, only the running software is consuming program memory.
kuroSAVVAS:
Maybe you need to check if you have any cache configuration settings using your memory.
i disabled the cache for ie. for opera i have the defaults. do you know of any program that might help me identify what is eating up the memory? even it is is a cache setting?
In my experience Opera utterly ignores whatever limit you specify for it's cache size and just grabs whatever amount of storage it feels like so I'd advise clearing the Opera cache and seeing how much space that gets you back.
No when you clear opera cache u free up storage memory not program memory. He has 9mb of program memory which is weird after a soft reset... If you cant find any running programs I'd say do a hard reset and always intall programs on Internal Storage.
Hello I don't know about you but i was only getting about 15 MB of free ram untill i turned the file system cache to AUTO now i have around 30 MB free.
Internal Storage vs SD Card Slot
I seem to come across an increasing number of issues with internal storage. Can it really get corrupted or have a limited life span just like the MicroSD cards? I am using a diamond and am contemplating upgrading to the Touch HD but the latter does not use internal storage. I was wondering which is more superior in terms of durability. Of course, I can also wait for the Asus P835 which has both. Any advice and views will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes it's the same with all nand flash memory, however it would normally take around 10 years to wear it out, constantly reading/writing to the disc, also it uses wear leveling and stuff to prolong it's life so it's nothing to worry about...
Hey i got htc diamond one month back but it has only :-
Program - 111.02 MB total
Free - 45 MB
Storage - 83.44 MB total
Free - 55MB
How come kuroSAVVAS is getting so much extra memory as we have same device?

Thanks owziee .... then this concern can be removed from the equation as I would have probably changed my phone before the 10 years are up. My personal view would be that if I use a physical memory card like MicroSD, at least I can swap to a newer card anytime whereas the 'internal memory' does not give me that option. I only hope the MicroSD drives should be quite durable?
I kinda have the same problem butmy problem is the storage on my Diamond.
It currently reads:
Storage
Total 84.94mb
In Use: 72.39mb
Free: 12.55mb
The only software I have installed was the TomTom Navigator 6 and I installed that to my storage card.
It affects my internet usage on it as if I am on facebook or myspace or anything with pictures on it starts telling me that my storage is low and starts to crash unless I delete the cache.
Any ideas how to resolve this??
Cinemo is an application for finding movie showtimes and information for your area(USA and Canada only, as far as I know). You can use either your postal code or GPS to find your location.

I have just released a new version of Cinemo. From now on Cinemo will be hosted here: http://www.danielgary.net/cinemo/
The new version is really just an interim release that enables image caching for the movie posters and allows automatic updates to Cinemo. A message box will pop up to notify you when the new version is being installed.

P.S. I know the site is ugly. I threw something up there just to host the file for now. I will get something pretty later.

Mods could you please delete the previous thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497225
When I attempted to install this to my memory card the installation would fail; however, the installation to device memory was successful. Can this only be installed to device memory?
Edit: Maybe for a future update you could query the "total $ gross" for each film on the list? Might be a cool addition.
Works well. One suggestion is to have a list of theaters that are within some range of your zip code. Many people go to neighboring zips to go to their preferred theaters.
I will be keeping an eye on this as it would be more convenient than loading up Fandango every time.

I would imagine that you do not have a data connection open or available. Can you hit the internet with your phone? Try disconnecting it from the computer if the USB cable is connected.

I was able to hit the internet and use other data connection apps fine. I did have it connected to the PC. Disconnected, no change. Cinemo wouldn't work, other apps would.
Did a soft reset, everything works fine. I guess there must have been something that didn't take or load completely until after the soft reset.
Great app, thanks for the work!

+1 for the gps, works like a charm! I use flixter on my ipod touch, and this works just as well for locating movies and since both are very similiar in UI, its really nice to have the familiarity from one device to the other.
Just letting everyone know I have movie synopsis working on my test build. Look for a new update to Cinemo in the next 24-48 hours. It SHOULD automatically update itself when you run it. I will post letting you know when it should be available.
thanks for this app i would love to be able to watch the trailer. maybe you could link it with the youtube app
awesome app, been following it since the first thread. the only thing missing for me would be saving favorite theaters other than that this is perfect. it's helped me out a couple times, thanks!
looks like this is going to be a great app - I am in Canada and i cant seem to enter a Canadian postcode as it caters for zip codes only! I also tried the GPS and it found no cinemas in my area and im downtown Toronto!
Potential feature add: would be great if you could add a feature to be able to enter dvd titles and get it to check the ratings on imdb and metacritic!
Hey thanks for the great app!
Is there a way to add more theaters to the list?
I have to change my area to get different theaters and i much rather just have all the theaters within the area be displayed.
Vancouver, BC, canada working decently!
I agree with some of the others. There needs to be an option for more movie theatres both when viewing the actual movie times and in the theatres tab. Also, itd be nice to check times for other days in advance. Like being able to view the times for Thursday when it is still Monday. Other than that I think it looks really good. Until theres more theatres I am stuck using Live search
every time i change the zipcode the app shuts down with an error. also, sometimes when i open the app it shuts down with an error. tried it on my sprint diamond and touch pro with same results. when it does open without errors it works great though. is there an explanation why there are errors so often? i'd say i've received an error about 40% of the time.
thanks for making this, it's a great idea and very useful. it's much easier and faster than having to open a mobile browser or some other app. keep up the development!
great idea love the concept. would you be able to make this for wqvga devices?
thanks in advance
Nice App but I have been having issues. I am using Energy ROM 3.0. I am not sure if it is because of the 3.7 .Net that he is use or some other reason but I am recieveing a message "failed: \storage card\program files\Cinemo\Cinemo.exe"
I am not sure why I have started to get this. I have more then enough room on my SD card. I have used it in the past and liked the app. Would love to have it on my cell but I am not going to change roms.
So, basically can anyone confirm issues on install? does it have to do with the 3.7 .Net that is being used?
Thanks,
SoBBie
pretty cool app.
i think it would be nice if you could enter your user account information for fandango.com or movietickets.com. that way if you see the movie you want to go see, you can just tap a "buy now" button, and you are good to go. maybe it could pull the confirmation number as well or something.
Hi guys!
Could anyone please explain to me, why, although all "data-eating" features are disabled, my phone from time to time is constantly connecting to the internet? Push internet is disabled, automatic weather updates disabled, opera not working, mail receiving set to manual, etc, and it still tries to connect!!! What for??? Is there a way to prevent it without using heavy artillery like "nodata"? Generally, I'd like to understand why the bastard is doing it and feel secure that my phone is not secretly using a data connection in my pocket
Is it quick gps?
Could use some logging program to see what comms it is doing I spose?
I'm new to Win Mob so I don't have a name for one atm, but should be possible to google.
Discovered the same phenomenon, my device was surfing the web for more than 4 hours yesterday before I discovered. I disconnected the connection manually, after 10 minutes it was surfing again. T-Mobile says: Windows Mobile is doing it, there is no way of preventing it, but upon request they would terminate my mobile internet for good to "solve" the problem. I wonder what these people smoke these days....
Greetings, Studebaker
me too yesterday, just installed nodata...
Hello,
I am new one to WM, but I was wondering about it few days and I can say that you can stop it.
1. - you need to stop PUSH Pages in Internet - this is the most important, because I had there 5 pages prepared for Push internet and they were loading every 6 hours
2. stop Push Email
3. of course you can stop Quick GPS, but it is connecting once a week
You need to shut down the browser through the Exit command not only the corner cross.

Yes, I've been wondering what's the good of 'exiting' Opera when you really haven't exited it at all. Why would HTC want to hide Opera from the taskmanager when it's really still running? It doesn't make sense.

I want Opera back in my taskmanager!

Yes, I've been wondering what's the good of 'exiting' Opera when you really haven't exited it at all. Why would HTC want to hide Opera from the taskmanager when it's really still running? It doesn't make sense.

It's Opera itself declaring itself to be a background process. There are many of these running all the time. I've just cleared all the items from the 'task manager' in the top corner of the UI, yet my device still has 20 tasks running.

So you're saying it's not TF3D in my TD2 that's making the difference, but the version of Opera that differs from the one on my TD1?

I suspect so. It'll be remaining in the background in order to do the push internet stuff I reckon.
You can remove it from the "System Exception List" under:
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System\Opera9.exe
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System\OperaL.exe
I just renamed these keys to:
Opera9.exe_
and OperaL.exe_
Restart the device afterwards!!!!
