Hi everyone,
Recently bought a tytn II, haven't bought a plan yet but most likely I will go with rogers...
anyone else using their phone with them? just wondering if they offered up unlimited data plans and how's the $$$$
This is my first phone so Im a total noob to this, the forums been great but I have read that some people get charged unknowingly from roaming charges.. how does this happen? Don't you only get charged if you browse the internet or send/receive email?
not to be rude but there is a rogers website. but unlimited data? hahahaha $65 for 1 GB
so which plan are you using?
right now i am using the 10MB for $5 promo they had going on a while back, but to get just regular data you need to claim to have a samsung a706 (as well for vid calling) as some reps might put u on the new windows mobile data plan which is $15 for 2 megs.
If you can make it happen then by all means get on the normal data plan and Opera Mini 4 mind you minimal browsing should be done regardless but opera gives you more bang for your buck.
If i were you, id go with Fido. Much cheaper plans than Rogers. I currently pay $18 value pack. I get Call display, Voicemail, 1,000 text msg, plus 12 MB internet plan.
Since Fido is under Rogers, you get the 3G network as well.

I am a heavy data and call user within the uk. I have just moved to canada and wonderedd what would be the best value price plan and carrier to support my heavy data and call useage I would say in total i Use up to 600 - 1000 minutes a month and need an unlimited data plan for web browsing and exchange mail downloading!! Any similar usersgot any carriers/price plans they can recommend? Prefereably I would like only a 12 month contract. I am tempted to buy the Raphael and just use a Canadian Sim - is this possible?
In addition any advice on the best pay as you go carrier (Sim only) which has minimal call and data useage - for the girlfriend??
Finally - will call cards work fine on my mobile so i can call the uk for minimal cost???
Thank you
I can't speak to the exact data plans cause they seem to change all the time. I can tell you that without a contract I pay $15CDN/month for 2MB of data on Rogers. If you sign a new 3 year contract the reps claim you can get the iPhone data plan (https://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-plans/iphone_adpacks) which allows for 6GBs of data for 30$. Otherwise the rates are ridiculous (6GBs/100$)up here. I don't believe there is an unlimited data plan on any of the providers (I could be wrong though).
The main 4 Canadian Providers
Rogers
Fido (which is owned by Rogers)
Bell
Telus
There are other smaller providers too
Virgin
Koodo (Telus)
Good luck
Ooops....
nothing to see here.
If only I read stuff before I posted....
wireless plans
i am on rogers (GSM carrier), using an unlocked TyTN II
I signed up for the 300MB/$30 data plan (not just for iphones) which is available separately from voice plans. It is a month to month so you do not need a 3-year term for it as you do for the 6Gig plan.
there is no unlimited usage data plan in canada, i have a 1500 minute voice plan for 150$ which also gives weekends and after 6pm free. I pay $10 for unlimited incoming calls as well.
you may want to check on that 6GB/$30 plan as i think it might only be available until end of august, but YMMV
that said there are a number of decent options, i don't find the prices too crazy anymore (i used to pay $60/30MB until this new pricing)... 500MB/$50 is not too outrageous is it? 500MB is a lot to pull on a phone.
virgin has a pretty good pay as you go but i don't think it is a sim service, not GSM?
as far as i know call cards will work fine on the cell, they don't have the restrictions like in europe. beware though you will want to unlock your phone before you bring it here, if it isn't already
95% sure your only options are rogers and fido, and if you're looking to use data then you need to jump on the 6gb plan. aside from that you can get a decent monthly plan for voice at $35

could you please tell me how to setup my TyTn II to receive emails (through microsoft push). I have my data plan with Fido and they do not support this phone so I have to do it myself.
Thanks
oi, that's the one function I do not use is push email... but it's built into the OS so there must be some tutorials here. sorry I wish I could help!
I'm thinking about buying a used htc tilt on ebay and using it with att, but can I keep my 15 dollar "dumbphone" data plan or do I need to upgrade my plan to the 30 dollar "smartphone" plan? I checked on wireless.att.com and theres not mention of the tilt needing the more expensive-r plan. Any experience from current users would be really useful though.

If you sign up for a data plan it will have to be the 30 dollar smartphone plan. There is no way around it.
Not sure about the 8925. I got by with it with my 8525 though with no issues though. Tried the trick with the 8925 and tmobile stopped it saying my phone wasn't compatible with thier data plan. So naturally I upgrade to the $30 a month data plan and turns out Tmobile 3g is the worst in the world. Litterally. You can only use a tmobile branded phone on their 3G. So I'm going back to Atnt in a couple weeks. I'll let you know if it works. I'm gonna hook it up as a razr then switch out the sims.

The network will recognize the phone as a Tilt and you will automatically be put on the $30 data plan

I am still on MediaMax plan from back in the day. It is a plan they no longer offer that is unlimited data (on the wap network) and 200 Text messages.
Only $20.00 per month. I got grandfathered in before all this new Data Plan nonsense came into play.
Just don't connect to [email protected]
No one at ATT ever told me I had to change it, (I didn't really ask either) and I have spoken with them several times about other phones on my account.
Here we go on the data plan merry go round
Here comes your $15 data plan
http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...lan-prices-ends-unlimited-offer-update3-.html
Im currently thinking about switching to at&t from tmobile.
One reason is my work gets a 22% discount the at&t vrs 12% at Tmo.
Also with taxes and unlimited everything im paying about a hundred which is kind of rediculous. (Without my discount)
Has anyone switched before and have a little more insight about data and plans between the two networks. I already know tmobile has hspa+. But will i end up paying more at at&t?
I already have someone lined up to trade my tmo nexus for a att nexus. Im just skeptical. And yes im going to pay etf fee even though i dont want too.
Help me out here people.
Att generally is more money for the same service and their coverage is not much better at least where I live

First of all, don't sign a contract because you're providing your own phone so you don't need to go on contract. Secondly, have you checked to make sure that T-Mobile has 3G in your area? What's your zip code?
How much etf do you have to pay? I dont think its a smart move to switch from tmo to att because of the extra 10% savings. Im pretty sure atts prices are inflated above the 10% difference. If you really wanted to save money then you can just switch your tmobile plan from your unlimited everything. If you switch your texting to google voice you can save $20 a month just from that. You can lower your minutes and start using sipdroid for your calls and have virtually unlimited free calls as long as you have decent data connection or wifi, and you can use your tmobile minutes as a backup.
So if you really wanted to get creative and still have a virtually unlimited plan you can sign up for the 500 minute plan on tmobile for $29.99, and get on the $10 web2go plan (this is the reason alone why i wont upgrade my phone for a long long time). $40 a month, and no contract.

2 questions... how do I get on web2go plan. And how do I use gvoice for texting?
pretty sure web2go is one of the old grandfathered plans the only way you have it is if you stuck with your plan and never changed it.
T-mobile just like other carriers play dirty tricks with plans to get their money back from subsidized phones.
i for example recently went the route of buying a used N1 for more than a G2 would have cost me subsidized up front because i'm on a grandfathered G1 data plan so currently i pay 55 dollars a month for 300 min 400 texts and unlimited data. i dont talk or text enough on my phone to justify more so its the cheapest thing for me to do is stick with it. if its not enough for me at some point i can upgrade to the even more whatever base plan without contract because i'm out of contract on my G1 now and it will run me 60 a month for 500 anytime unlimited text and data. had i bought a subed G2 i would have had to pay 80 a month for the same exact plan that is 60 off contract.
from what i have seen ATT is about 20 dollars more a month for the base plan that you would want on a N1 or other similar phone and as i said before in my experience at least in the SF bay area coverage is equal between t-mobile and ATT for the most part, maybe a slight edge to ATT in some places but for the most part the same.
Sprint is the only carrier that i have seen that comes close to the cost of T-mo and even with a subed phone like a EVO 4G your only looking at 70ish a month for a comparable plan but its nice staying off contract because it gives me more options in the not so distance future

I signed up just last week with tmobile and picked the $10 unlimited internet for phone option which is the same as web2go. Log into your tmobile account and go to add services, and there should be $10 unlimited mobile web for phones. Just make sure you do it before tmobile changes to the tiered plans, and set your device as being a dumbphone. Set your apn settings to internet2.voicestream.com and it will be good to go.
For google voice texting you just use the built in google voice application, or the normal contact list on your phone. It will send texts out from your google voice number. I sent one massive text out to all my contacts telling them my google voice number was my new main number. Might seem like a pain telling people a new number but after you do this it will help you out in the long run. You can setup sipdroid for free calls and all incoming and outgoing calls from your google voice number can be made without the use of any minutes if you have data/wifi. I made a step by step guide for that at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8813244&postcount=18
I went the other way and am never going back to att!
My plan right now costs half of what att used to charge me
go tmo!
Ps: usually the discount only applies to the main line.
on both networks
I was looking to buy a HD7 (my HD2 died), and it looks like if I get a 2 year contract extension I can get one for $199 (after $50 mail in rebate). I currently use the $5.99 tzones, and it is not asking me sign up for a Web Service yet. This is what it actually says when I go to check out:
This phone requires a Web service in order to access the Internet, e-mail, and more. After you receive your new phone, you’ll need to visit My T-Mobile to add a Web service.
So, do you think that means that I can still use tzones? Thanks!
I'm assuming that your 5.99 tzone plan is grandfathered, correct?
Since you said that you are using your 2 year upgrade extension, I believe that tmobile will force you to upgrade to the 30 dollar data plan regardless if you buy it in store or online. The only way I know in which you don't have to buy the 30 dollar data plan is if you buy the the phone outright.
When I upgraded to my hd7, tmobile required that I have the 30 dollar data plan and not my grandfathered plan.
Yes, that is what I was talking about. It was just strange that the Tmobile website is not "forcing" me to chose the $30 plan until after I receive the phone.
Actually, when you order from the mobile website, at check out it will tell you which data plan you want; the 200mb or the unlimited..
I actually bought my HD7 from BestBuy & I had the $10 unlimited internet on the phone I had before I ugraded. When I bought my HD7 the guy was like, Oh! You already have the $10 unlimited internet, did you want to keep that or get the $30? I asked if it was going to stay unlimited & he said yes. So I kept it! There was a T-Mobile rep next to him & she said that the $10 one works with ALL smartphones.

u are lucky to get a rep who didn't add it without your permission.
I went ahead and purchased it and they never asked me to change my plan. I'm crossing my fingers it stays that way.
Just so you all know, I just received my phone. I did purchase through tmobile.com and did NOT have to upgrade my plan from tzones to the $30 plan. I received it today and it is working great!
Just a heads-up for those who want to upgrade to this phone w/ grandfathered t-zones... I went to bestbuy.com and chose upgrade for this phone and they only charged me $99 for the phone and only asked if I have a compatible data plan (which is t-zones of course) and had me check-out without forcing me the $30/$15 data plan - that was more than a month ago. T-zones has been working like a charm, letting me watch netflix and t-mobile tv without hiccups and of course all the other data requiring programs. Checking out my speed at "mobile speed test" downloading 2mb had me pegged at 6mbps in North Jersey area. I just got my bill and t-mobile just charged me $18 upgrade fee - and that's it. All the other services remain the same! I don't know if it's still working but for those who want to upgrade it's worth to try.
pierce97, can you confirm if T-zones is still working on your HTC HD7? Thanks.
My hd7 is still working with T-Zones... and whenever I visit mytmobile there's nothing on my data downloads even though I have been watvhing a lot of Netflix and Youtube!!!

Windows Mobile & Windows Phone Devices
July 21, 2011 - Okay...let me lay this to rest... Windows Mobile 5.x, 6.x devices have been accessing the Internet long before Apple, Android and Blackberry showed up on the scene; despite it now occupying less than 5% of the devices used; it remains legacy for any of us who continue to use the OS to include Windows Phone 7. There may be some loyal and longtime customers of T-Mobile using other devices; the general rule is if you are on a grandfather data plan like T-Zones and you're using a Windows device; you're good to go. Please note the web site says Web Service; it does not clarify what type as others devices does. I use a Rhodium and T-Zones performs perfect at 3G speeds where 3G is available. I plan to upgrade to the HD2 which multiple OSs to include WP7 can be flashed and continue with T-Zones; however I have talked to Tier 2/3...PDA/RIM support and have been told as long as you stick to Windows devices you may remain in T-Zones...whether it's unlimited, I don't care...I think data plans are reaching the realm of the ridiculous when it comes to prices...though I don't use mine as my main internet connection.
Just bought Int GNote, pros/cons of Straight Talk, Go Phone, or AT&T w/dumbphone data
Just bought a Galaxy Note and been reading all the topic posts on the different options for using my Note. Haven't figured out what's best so maybe I'll ask for people's experiences and get suggestions.
This will be a 2nd phone for me since my company already pays for a phone for me on Sprint, and I got tired of waiting for Sprint to come out (if ever) of their version of the Note. I already have an Epic 4G and we get WiMax here in the SF Bay Area, so I don't mind continuing using that since my company pays the bill.
What I would like to do on my Note would be mainly email, web browsing, texting and maybe a few phone calls, but since I have my other phone, phone calls are secondary. The one thing I really like doing THE MOST is watching YouTube videos and streaming songs from Google Music (Now called Play Music or whatever). On my Samsung Epic 4G with Sprint, I average between 3 and 4 GBs per month on data usage.
So in short my questions are:
1. Should I go with Straight Talk $45 Unlimited Plan, AT&T Unlimited $50 Go Phone Plan, or piggyback on my parent's AT&T postpaid plan ($10 to add a line, $30 for unlimited data + unlimited messaging for non-smartphone ie dumbphone plan)?
2. Which one of these would give the best possible data speeds? I know they all use AT&T's network but I've read that GoPhone plans are (possibly) throttled vs postpaid?
3. Which is more likely to raise red flags when using data? I know there is no such thing as truly unlimited data, but which plan is more "lenient" in your data use or will probably let you download a little more data than another option. I've read on Straight Talk, you should try not to go over 100 MB/day or 2 GB/month, but are those limits also similar on GoPhone unlimited or postpaid with dumbphone data.
Anything else I should know?
Thanks for the info!
i say try straighttalk since it no contract and if they ban u for useing to much fake unlimted data try at&t but i think its crap how these compony ban people f em lol almost like a scam
I'm currently using my old grand fathered unlimted Ipad sim in mine. Currently 3GB for $30 does not seem too bad, No contract. Just buy and Ipad 3g and activate and sell it. I've used that sim in an iPhone, mifi, my laptop and now the Gnote and ATT has never said anything. No phone calls or text, the work a rounds aren't great but they do work.
Once Sprint sees fit to let me out of my contract I was thinking of giving Straight talks a go
Edit
If you go with the Ipad sim, you will need an adapter to make the sim larger. I have a micro sim punch so I took an old full sized sim and punched out the sim and used the left over card board as the adapter. You may need to do some filing with a nail file but it seems to work the best compared to the plastic adapters you find. You will have be carful remove the aim sum and adapter from a device.
Using ST with my note for 4 full months now, very satisfied. I am not a heavy mobile data user though, I just do some browsing while out and about, read some news on pulse, and check e-mail a few times a day.
Thanks for some of the suggestions so far, but has anyone tried the AT&T post paid plan with the data for dumb phone plan or the old medianet plan lately? I assume it still works because AT&T does not have the IMEIs of the international version in their database? And they fixed the problem with it showing up as a Galaxy Tab? I read that you could delete out the /EFS directory and have it show up as a generic phone or use an IMEI from a loaner phone as well, but I haven't seen any posts regarding these strategies newer than January so not to sure if AT&T figured this out.

Had data working great on the GoPhone plan.. then downloaded some 600mb of files (don't really remember what, I think it was a few ROMs), and two days later my internet was shut off.. so the moral here is, don't be stupid with it if you get it to work on the gophone plan

No way I would download that much at one time, I think I do maybe 100-200 MB/day on average at the most. The question with you (and thanks for answering btw), is what kind of download speeds were you getting on the GoPhone plan? Were you getting FauxG speeds (HSPA+) or was it throttled? And did you have to do anything special to make it work on the GoPhone plan or was it a matter of just putting the correct APNs?
