Extended ROM purpose is explained in wikis
Visbile ext rom isn't same as unlocked ext rom
Bootloaders above 1.05 do not allow to touch the extended rom in normal phone operation as it corrupts the FAT (file allocation table of that partition).
The best one can do is to flash an ext rom already built (10MB file) to it via RUU or RAPI utils (WST)

Where can I find some? I did a search and could not find the roms
Just grab any extended rom from any wizard rom then open it with WinImage. Delete what you hate add what you love then edit config.txt. Use nb2nbf.exe to add your extended rom so that it can be flashed.
?
Does every Rom Have an extended rom? If I have a nk.nbf rom file is that the file I open or is the extended rom a seperat rom that is not included in any rom.
I have files in my extended rom that were all related to T-mobile but it is a Cingular phone. I Figure these must have been put by another rom. I did a forms search for "Extended ROM" and got 20 pages of hits. Could you help point me in the right direction.

I have succesfully updated my PDA2k from the standard ITalian ROM to the one in my signature
I'm very happy and I would like to thanks All for the support
Now I would like to cook my first Extended ROM and I have a very simple question but, I have not been able to find the answen in the wiki
The Extende ROM I have now doesn't contains the Config.txt file but the Setup.exe.
During the cooking process. Should I take out the .exe file and substitute it with my oun Confing.txt?
Thanks
Asmodeo
There is a rason for that.
In some roms that have gone through the kitchen 1.3x we have noticed that the autorun, config.txt has been subsitutted by a new methord setup.exe.

What you need to do is downlaod an old version Ext rom which has the autorun, confix txt.
Extract those files 2 files, delete the setup.exe and add the autorun, config txt to your ext rom (oh yes and dont forget to edit the config.txt)
The one I use is in the imate 1.22 162 and found on wiki

Can someone point me to a link of the TMO extended rom cab file list with descriptions for each. i searched i swear
Also, If I updated my rom and wanted to load all these cabs back on to the device can i just copy the whole backup folder to /windows/ and then the autorun will run it on reset?
thanks
search better . . .its on the wiki
the one in the wiki is dutch, is there a USA one?
what about the second part?
1. I know its based on dutch tmo rom, but most of the US cabs are much alike (based on their name)
2. autorun makes use of a registry setting (dont know out of my head, but plz do another search on config.txt and autorun) to load the correct config.txt file.
If you change that you canb use your backup and install from there.
Is there a way that I can extract a .CAB file of the custom ringtones that Summiter had in his ealrier ROMS, or does anyone have this already?
Extracting from ROM
Use Total Commander. Open /Extended_Rom/ and save the file to a location like your minisd.
I tried doing this with the tmobile custom rom and it wouldnt let me do anything to the cabs in the extended rom. Any ideas why?

The extended rom under AKU 2+ is locked by the operating system... if you want a custom one for yourself, you'll have to cook one yourself...
Thanks for the info, but I'd rather stay away from cooking one for awhile
Using total commander, if you navigate to the extended rom, you can make a copy of it, say on the sd card. Then you can run it separately. This is what I do, and the list from T-Mobile's 2.26 is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272613
Alternately, I have posted a copy of the cabs:

Dude you are the man I will check it out in a bit.
Thanks it worked out perfectly!

I've used the NBH extract program to pull out the OS.nb from the NBH file but where do I go from there? Or does it mean I've not got an extended ROM?
Got the answer, there is not extROM file within the NBH I was using

how can I unlock, view, copy from the extended rom on the Kaiser/Tilt?
I have tried Schap's Advanced Config tool (from the sticky) but it does not unhide ext rom. (realize this is a Hermes tool but also found it on the Kaiser forum)
any suggestions?
This has been a common question asked here.
There is no ExtROM on the Kaiser.
where's the config located?
OK - no ext rom
where are the ATT customizations located then? (after hard reset)
I specifically want to extract a couple of items from the att customization without loading the whole thing.
