Hello
I have been hanging out in the wizard area but just upgraded to the tilt.
I was wondering why they were sending me a new SIM card then it hit me the Tilt is G3.
Question will it work or hurt anything to run on my old wizard SIM card till I can get to the store and get a new G3 card or does it have to have a G3 to work.
(Reason I need a new one is they got mine and my wife's numbers crossed)
No it won't hurt anything. I've used the same sim in several motorola phones, a sierra VOQ phone, a wizard and now my kaiser and never had a problem.
Thanks
Will try it

Hi, I unlocked my phone and installed Summiter's 2.17.7.2 WWE ROM from a few a weeks ago and just recently I began getting a "Invalid or missing SIM card. You can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it." message on my phone. My phone is almost unusable now, if I reboot, I may be able to get my signal back, but then it go back to being invalid again. I haven't messed with the phone at all since upgrading.
Is there something I missed here? I did the phone unlock and CID unlock as directed in the instructions. Only now it started doing this. Can someone help please?

Do you by chance have a 64K SIM made by GemPlus? I've seen many reports of those SIMs giving up the ghost.
Indeed, it is a 64K Gemplus SIM card,
Is this something that has to do with the ROM? If I go to Cingular do you know if they will they give me a replacement SIM or are they going to refuse me service because I messed with the phone?

Well, I'd set the phone's theme and stuff to look as stock as possible. But in my experience, if you walk in and tell them you get a SIM error they'll just give you a new one without putting any effort into the matter.
I actually have another SIM card that came in the box (it says 3GC), I'm just using my original SIM card from my Moto V220. I guess I'll give them a call and see if I can switch them.
I just hope it isn't the ROM that's doing it, or else it'll ruin this one too.
Probably not the ROM -- I have a Qtek 9100 with the original ROM, and my Cingular SIM gave up the ghost 1 week after I got the Qtek. I've read a couple other reports of SIM failures with Wizards.
The Cingular support rep wouldn't let me activate my other SIM card yet, she thought that since my name was still registered to my old Moto V220 on their system, that was the reason why it was locking out my phone. Eh, it's working for now, I'll see what happens.
When mine fried a few weeks back I took my old Blue Angel to the local Cingular store just to avoid such questions. They made a new SIM on the spot, no questions asked.
I just recently upgraded my 8525 to a Tilt, and gave the 8525 to my son. When he swapped his sim card from his Touch to the 8525 it would always show the signal strength with an exclamation point and the data connection had an 'X'. I tried my sim card with it, and got the same results.
I took the phone to the AT&T store and the rep said that AT&T now lets you use only the handset that you have associated with your account. He clicked on a few screens, then the 8525 was able to get and hold a connection using my sons sim card.
He said this is something that AT&T just started in the last week. So much for swapping handsets.....
this is a lie.. i swap between 8525/tilt

man, that's harsh. Just fishing for more info. Is there something else I should have done?
More like trolling...
Think about it - what possible benefit would AT&T get by locking a handset to a SIM card? NONE! They would have a lot of pissed off customers.
Your son's card was probably disabled and he re-enabled it.
AT&T Sim cards
Might just be that your son's sim card is one of the old 56k Cingular cards and he needed to get a newer 64k card for medianet and 3g to work in the 8525. All he would have to do is call AT&T and they would send him a new card for his account. Don't be fooled by what someone that works in a AT&T store say's to you. One would assume that they know what they are talking about, that is wishfull thinking!!!
my son's sim card was not a 3g card, but mine is. the phone wouldn't work with mine either. when we went to the store we got a 3g card for my son.
i've switched sims between handsets quite a bit, but this time was the first I experienced a phone that wouldn't work. it doesn't make sense that AT&T would do something like this, that's why i posted here for your comments. and cheers to those that chimed in...thanks.
You know, when I tested your theory tonight, I noticed I had a harder time inserting my SIM into my 8525 than into my Tilt. Maybe it wasn't fully seated? The slot is configured different and I had to push harder to get it into the 8525. The first time I booted it I got no signal until I reseated the SIM.
I rarely swap SIMs so I would not notice this normally...
i work @ ATT and i can say that alot of time reps do talk out of their asses my co-workers do it all the time if they do\nt know something or they ask me.. but att hasnt been locking handsetes to sim i swap between my 8525 BJ V3x
SYNC BB pearl and slvr all the time with no problem. g/f does the same thing i do just not as many phones as i do
My Kaiser has refused to recognise my T_Mobile uk sim card. The T-mobile card works well with any other phone. My kaiser also works well with other sim cards from 3, orange and vodafone. My kaiser was unlocked last month. Pls help. T-Mobile has accepted to change the card for £10.
Did it used to work?
We upgraded a number to a number of Kaisers some months back - kept the existing SIM cards that we had been using. All was fine but then when one Kaiser died, we got a replacement and the SIM card which was working fine (and was by now probably two+ years old) in the now dead Kaiser, refused to work in the new one. Worked fine in other phones.
Took it in to a T-Mobile shop and they replaced the SIM card - all then fine.
Hope that helps.
Sounds like it's an old T-Mobile sim card. If so, get it swapped. Should sort your problem. If not, then I don't know what to suggest. Have you tried another T-Mobile sim?
Happened to me when I got a T-Mobile PAYG SIM last week to trial for data coverage.
Popped SIM in and worked well.
I then tried a Vodafone Sim and that was ok.
When I put the T-Mobile SIM back in - I got the message "no SIM found"
Tried Orange and Vodafone and they both gave the same message !
I was not convinced the SIM'S were making good contact - there seemed too much movement under the flimsy metal crossbar.
The solution to get the T-Mobile and other SIM's working was to insert a small piece of paper on top the SIM as you slide it under the metal crossbar.
This puts a little bit of extra padding on top of the SIM to help make decent contact.
I suppose the paper could be put on top of the crossbar instead to achieve the same effect but have not tried this.

so my father went to boston the other day and for some reason his sim card got messed up he has an nokia its an older modle that he had for years it think its the 1110 model number will anyways they gave him a new sim card he puts it in and he gets a message saying restricted so i put my sim card in it and i get the same thing and i put his sim card in my tilt and it works fine so i think it might just be the sim card is new and the phone is so old anyone else knows what else it could be ??
update is a nokia 6230
Doesn't sound like a sim error. Could be the pone does not support the newer technolgy?
yeah i know it from the start and it was the sim card he decide to get the iphone but was really cool i saw the new htc touch pro or the fuze as att called it i played around with it and everything and its sooooo badass its so much smaller then the tilt but a lil heavyer it takes really good pictures a big improvement from the tilt and it also comes with opra ready on it which is realy nice i really like it alot and cant wait to get it next month
Hey guys...I sold my Tilt and they buyer said when they inserted their SIM it wouldn't recognize it. I flashed the newest Hyperdragon ROM before I shipped the device, and everything seemed to be working fine. The buyer went to ATT store where they tried other SIM cards, but none worked in the Tilt.
It worked fine with my SIM, which I'm using now in my Fuze. Any ideas what would be causing this? Thanks
i have the same problem too. i'm new to this kaiser/tytnII.
i bought it used from a guy. at first i was able to use my simcard on it. But after using it for 2-3 days, the phone failed to detect my simcard.
i tried with other simcards and it worked fine.
* i think the previous owner flashed with hyperdragonIII ROM, when it boots it says hyperdragon III omnia
Had the same problem. I take my sim card out of my blackberry and put it into my tilt and it recognizes nothing. I take tthe sim out of the tilt back into the Blackberry and works perfectly. I flashed Hyperdragon III ralpheal and blackstone. I finally went back to an at&t based one. Originally when I had dutty's rom or Schapp the sim worked fine
i have just recently bought a unlocked tilt (i don't think it was ever flashed before because the seller didn't know whats flashing)
however, at first, it couldn't read my sim card at all even though my sim works perfectly on my wing. so i took it to a cellphone place across the street and their sim card worked on the tilt, in the end, i just had to pay an extra 20 bucks to get a new SIM card. it is also a better idea to flash without the sim card in the phone!

True, I always notice better reslults flashing without SIM and microSD intalled.
I don't know what happened, but the buyer emailed me and said they went to another ATT store and got it working. I'll see if I can find out what the ATT rep did to make it work...
