ok been downloading some utilities for windows mobile 6 like printboy to print from the kaiser to wifi.
All i get is "....... is not a valid pocketpc application"
Hmm
I specifically chose the trial version for pocket pc/ windows mobile.
Ive tried other progs and get the same message.
What gives?
are you trying to install exe or msi files directly on your phone? are you using a pc to install or are you using the filemanager on your phone. remember .cab files install from your filemanager on your phone. exe and msi files you have to install through a pc with activesync or with vista you need windows mobile device center
aha, ive been downloading on wifi directly on the kaiser and tryin to install.
So what i need is to make sure i download a cab file, if i want to install from phone directly?
yep cabs for phone, exe and msi for pc

i am a newbe in this HTC thing. i'd like to watch full movies on my wizard eg in avi format but i have problem with tcmpm player. which file shell i download and instal onto my device. can anyone give my step by step tips. cheers, matt
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download
Click on Windows Mobile Version, Latest version 0.71 -
http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=53&release_id=224#r224
Download tcpmp.setup.0.71.exe - http://corecodec.org/frs/download.php/369/tcpmp.setup.0.71.exe
With your Wizard connected via USB/ActiveSync, run the .exe on your PC
The installer will install TCPMP on your Wizard.
Or, download tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.71.zip http://corecodec.org/frs/download.php/366/tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.71.zip , copy the file to somewhere on your Wizard using ActiveSync's "Browse" function (e.g. copy to you Documents on the Wizard). Then, using the Wizard's File Explorer, browse to the arm.cabs file on the Wizard & click on it to run it.
Which file do you need for Windows Mobile?
There are five files in each release.
tcpmp.setup.[version].exe - Desktop installer for PocketPC or HPC devices. It should be launched on the PC when the PDA is connected via ActiveSync.
tcpmp.smartphone.[version].exe - Desktop installer for Smartphone devices. It should be launched on the PC when the phone is connected via ActiveSync.
tcpmp.arm.cabs.[version].zip - Standalone .cab installer files if don't want to use a PC for installing. Check readme.txt for details in the archive.
tcpmp.mips.cabs.[version].zip - For older MIPS devices
tcpmp.sh3.cabs.[version].zip - For older SH3 devices

I have down loaded several (cab) programs onto my Mac, then loaded this to the Kaiser. However, some programs only download from the internet as (exe). Can these load onto the Kaiser like (cab) file do? just checking before I do this.
those usually need to be installed to a PC first. then the PC installs them to the PDA device.
Unfortunately, we in the Mac world still have to use a PC every once in a while (please, no flame intended or desired).
There is one program, File Juicer, that can extract some .cab files from .exe files, but not most.
What you need to do is borrow a PC, download the .exe, double click on it. it will most likely be put in the c: drive, program files --->Microsoft ActiveSync. From there, you should see the .cab file and can put it on a usb drive and then put in on your Mac and transfer it over via Bluetooth.
It is the one frustration using these devices while living in the Mac world.
Thank you , I will give tht a try.
It's also worth trying to open them with your favorite app to handle ZIP files. The EXE is often just a self-extracting archive that doesn't actually require a PC to use.
there are two check and fix dead pixel program that you can run direct from the phone, it's a exe extention.
kms
how can you extract the necessary cab file out of an exe file?
http://www.ocpsoftware.com
They have 2 products, the cheaper one is primarily for extracting stuff out of Cab files. Both products have a trial period.
RE
I was thinking more like a tool for my device to extract the cab from the exe, not a tool to use on a pc since activesync would xfer the cab once the exe is run on the pc anyways
Maybe PocketRAR. Can do on desktop, but never tried on PPC.

How about:
1. Click on the cab file to install it.
2. If you just wanted the program installed stop here.
3. Find the exe on your Device and copy to someplace safe.
4. Remove the program (uninstall it) from your Device.
Now if this doesn't cover your need then please be a bit more specific about what you are trying to accomplish.
I am Looking for the Same thing
I m also Looking for the same thing....
I think what he mean is ... For Example If i want to install POCKETRAR directly from Website to my Pocket pc.. if i go to www.rarlab.com they only have EXE file for Active sync (No Cab File)....
Is dere any software for Pocket PC that can directly Run "ActiveSync EXE files)"on Pocket PC to get the Cab files out of them.....so we can install application without the need of Computer
For that i will simply install the progam on my laptop without my PPC connected then find and copy the cab file. After I have a copy of the cab file I uninstall the program.
Unfortunately no direct on PPC solution.
Yeah but what would you do ... if you have a situation .. where you dont have windows pc ..... I use Linux ... i have to install applications to my friends pc to get it on my Windows Mobile... This will really help alot .. if someone can figure out a way to extract Cab from EXE.....
this is what i normally do:
1. download the EXE onto your PC
(make sure your phone is stay connected at ActiveSync)
2. run the file and STOP when your phone is popping up installation notice
3. open up an explorer go to "\Windows\AppMgr\Install" on ur phone
4. at that moment, you will find your *.CAB file temporarily
5. COPY the file, n' save it somewhere and retain a copy OR share it here
anyway ... that's the manual way but by far, I havent find any softwares to do it yet. good luck.

thats a good way of doing it but if i want to get a cab from an exe is because i have ****y vista so i dont have activesync
Doesn't extract from the phone but, Uniextract will extract cabs from most exe's and installers on a pc. I use it all the time cuz I hate having to run an install or exe just to get a cab. Here's a download link from Softpedia
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Universal-Extractor-Download-56951.html
oh man thats a real good find.
thanks alot!
thanks great program needed this for awhile
AL
So I have Hyperdragon 3 Jade on my tilt, and I been trying to install it on my tilt but the application always says not of a pocket pc application???
If you go to Winrar, the winrar pocket pc file is an executable for cab installation to your phone from your pc via Active Synch or WMDC-(that's why it's telling you it can't install when you put it on your phone and try to install it.).. It is not a cab file.
You need the cab to install directly on your phone.
I attached the cab for ya, just dload this on your phone and install it.
Much Thankkks.
I have just bought a HTC Diamond. I am new to the world of Windows Mobile.
So far the phone is great! I love it.
I have noticed you can download lots of apps and tweaks.
I want just wondering how to instal these programs on the phone.
I have downloaded a few games, Unzipped and copied over the files to the phone. It recognioses one of the games with a '.cab' format and it installed, but the rest are .xml.
Any pointers, tips and hints for this phone?
Cheers
the program you use to extract compressed files identifies cab files as compressed. All you need to do is copy the cab files to your phone and run the file from there. If you try to extract a cab file, you'll get those xml files you talked about.
1. Copy cab to phone
2. Run cab from phone to install the program
good luck

Hi - my first post!
You mention .cab files... I expect this applies to .exe's as well (for example, hot fixes)???
Any particular folder(s) on the phone we should be copying these files to before running them? I tried to install a hot fix today, but after running the .exe and receiving a 'success' message, the phone restarts OK, but the fix does not appear to have worked.
all exe install's for pocketpc's are pc exe files which have to be run
on the pc and then it use activesync to transfer the cab file to the
pocketpc and run it there

Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately, running the exe on my PC (Win Vista) doesn't seem to work.
Error: "{C:\filepath\filename.exe} is not a valid Win32 application."
Any ideas? I'm a complete newb at this so have exhausted my very limited list of possible ideas...
some people don't distribute their apps with installers so it could
just be the program itself
in which case you have to execute it on the pocketpc
this of cause mean that it will not put a shortcut to the exe
in your programs thats just something you have
to do manualy with a program like total commander
which you can also use to browse to where you put the
exe file and execute it to start the program

OK thanks - I already tried running the exe straight from my Diamond, and although it appeared to work correctly, the hotfix didn't actually fix what it claimed to. Not to worry, I'm still learning all this stuff (only had my Diamond for a day and a half now... ).
