Worldwide GPS Software - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I use TomTom as my GPS software when I'm in Europe or North America, but I often travel to areas of the world where there aren't available maps (Asia Pacific, Africa, China, Pakistan etc).
Is there a good software package which will allow me to use my built in GPS with worldwide maps (preferably free ).
Also, is there any software which will allow me to store my location (without having any maps loaded), draw a route as I move away from the location and then use the gps to navigate back to my original location.
Any advice appreciated.

You should check NoniGPSplot

Cheers, I'll give it a try.

try iGO
this is not free but worth every cent and maps of almost all countries are available

Hi!
I need maps of Japan ! Any ideas for this ? iGo doesn't seem to have Japan.

having some problem with TomTom6, help?

I installed TomTom Navigator 6 V6.010 with 6.75 US/Canada maps into my Tilt...everything works except one feature in the point of interest. It doesn't list nearby "stores" in the Los Angeles. Only show Apple etc. stores that are in the east coast, what gives? What can I do to fix this? thanks
I forgot to mention this is the "cracked" version. Does anybody have this version in their phone?
this is what you get for not buying the TomTom6 store version..
Don't sweat it dude.. took me a few years to purchase the software and I don't regret it at all! Well worth the money and to support TomTom.
As for your problem - contact TomTom...

Maybe your Apple POI is only for the east coast. Search the GPS forums for POIs. They have a lot of POIs, but some of them are regional.
Hope this helps
You can go into settings and select the POI that you want displayed

Anyone know where the BEST GPS software and Resources for Philippines

I have been searching high and low on where to get a working GPS software for the Philippines, particularly the NCR, Region 2 and Region 8. Can anyone help me out?
mapking for maps of manila, there's no maps available yet for other parts of the philippines. you can try gps tuner, it can also download google maps and you can create maps using their map tool on pc, so you can scan and calibrate your own maps
try vito navigator 2..i am sure they have maps of philippines but they are not the best looking maps out there
mapking also has maps of the cities in philippines
i dunno if ncr, region 2 and 8 are included in cities..

Is GPS software included?

I have just bought the Touch Diamond from Telstra in Australia. It didn't included GPS software like TomTom. Does Touch Diamond sold in other countries includes GPS software? Apart from GoogleMap, is there TOMTOM cab available I can download for free?
i live in italy, there i sno GPS software included.
but this is not a real problem...
TOMTOM software bundled with polaris includes only one 3 year old city map at your choice, not italian full country map. you are required to buy it from tomtom site...
TomTom is free, maps are cheap
Hello;
I bought Diamond here in Norway.
No TomTom, just google maps.
But TomTom is free ( www.tomtom.com )
And map over all Western Europe cost only 39Euro.
Downloading TomTom Home to my PC and then installing it on HTC is semi-automatic.

Do you have a more-specific link to the app?

TomTom is NOT free.
Some providers buy e.g. TomTom7 from the company TomTom and include it in their rom. Like O2 germany. If you buy a phone from them, you will get it for "free".
You cannot buy it, as TomTom is not selling this version to customers.
TDO

Tomtom home 2.5 makes Diamond legit.

Downloading TomTom Home 2.5 and connecting Orange (and maybe all variety) Diamond causes TOMTOM to offer a free trial of TOMTOM 7.9 with trial map and access to purchase others advancing the cause of those whose Diamonds did not have TOMTOM in ROM. Win for Diamond users. Win for TOMTOM map sales.
Sounds like very good news and TT actually applying some common sense for a change.
Does Home 2.5 work with Navigator? Previous versions did not and us PDA users were forced to use Version 1.5. It is for that reason that I did not instal it when it came out.
I have a legitimate version of TT6 up and running on my TD. Does this instal wipe any previous versions of TT off, or can both run together?
Can this version read version 6 maps - I would probably buy a Europe map but have a Southern Africa map I would want to keep in case I ever visit there again.
Maybe it's just because I live in Canada, but the only map I can download is the one free map. If I try to purchase a map via TomTom Home it shows none available. Kind of annoying since TomTom is pretty much useless if you can't buy maps. It does work for all the free voices and car images, etc though. Maybe I should have selected the UK as my country when I registered....
Tomtom Hone 2.5 encourages a connected diamond user to download working version of Tomtom 7 (v 7.90)for HTC devices which replaces extracted files from Diamonds with v7 in ROM. This allowed my access to previously purchased maps (v7.45maps) which wouldn't load with previous extracted versions of Tomtom 7. Home 2.5 has version for Navigator. Purchasing from Tomtom website for Navigator 7 leads to discounted 8.15 maps. Would assume these will work. My Orange diamond worked with maps of W Europe designated for O2.
The 6.75 maps will work with TomTom 7, I'm using them together just fine.
I'm using Tomtom V8 maps with Tomtom 7 no problem.
Worked for me. But does anyone know if this is a trial software, or the full version? I wouldn't want to spend $80 on a map of Australia, if the software runs out in a couple of weeks...
TomTom itself (the program) is free, its the maps you pay for, therefore it is a full version and will not run out.
Definitely full version. Can set to have cows mooing if speed limit exceeded. Tomtom will probably advise if v 8.15 maps operate if other site users cannot say. Cannot see why not as I am sure tomtom want map sales otherwise copilot will take htc users on. Home slightly slow to catch on to what you want . You may have to purchase maps from tomtom website and use Home to transfer to diamond rather than purchasing through Home itself.
I emailed TT "support" some questions about this and here is part of their reply
"Home is offering you this application in error. It is an update to the preinstalled version of Nav 7, so probably won't work."
So there you go - all of this is a figment of your imagination. It doesn't exist and if it did it wouldn't work anyway. And it is all your fault for wanting up to date software and maps from us.
Oh and by the way they also said that TTN6 is not compatible with my TD even if it works on it. I must get a copy of their dictionary to see what there definition of compatible is.
I am so glad that Tom Tom is back to its normal ways - I don't think I could have stood the shock of them becoming helpful.
Not complaining. Best example of unsolicited goods I've had in a long time. Is it tomtom's reluctance to preload in all markets or mobile companies wanting you to use their navigation system with costly data downloads?
