...find satellites?.
Hi. Arranco the tomtom, or the destinator, or the miomap and takes almost fifteen or twenty minutes the gps in find satellites. Are there any problems, something to be corrected in the registry for that go well?. This pass to open field. Thanks and a greeting.
The first time you use it it can take some time (unless you run quickgps). After that though, it should take less than a minute.
if you're in a new area running the included 'QuickGPS' (Start -> Programs -> Tools -> QuickGPS) will help speed up the processes. As noted after you get your first connection the rest go much faster.
Mine took about 2 minutes the first time, and now reliably connect in 10 - 15 seconds as i'm moving
Mine takes several minutes almost every time. In broad open clear view while moving it does maybee 30seconds at best.
i'm also using GPS Gate (?) and with iGO and TomTom, i get locks in 15-30 seconds... it baffles me why some of us Kaiser/Tilt users have different experiences...
Best thing to do is to install GPS Viewer and then use it to give a "cold start" to gps. My Tom Tom connects within a minute when I do that. The program is free, and you can find it from Google or by searching this forum.
Hi guys,
is there any article where there is GPS configuration described in details?
I mean what are the best/fastest/most stable settings of baud rate for the GPS unit?
I have tried the baud rate settings of 4800, 9600, 38400, 57600 and 115200 and the GPS looks working fine on all of these.
Theoretically it should work the best on 115 200. But the truth may be somewhere else.
Anyone can get me right in this?
Thanks.

Leave the internal GPS settings alone. The location is updated 1/s (or less, sometimes much less) so it's not like there's a lot of data coming across.
If you get a bluetooth GPS, feel free to push it to 9600 or 38400, particularly if it's one of the units that will do more than 1/s updates.
Yeah, if you're willing to flash a new radio, get 1.58.11.07. It is one of the only radio's I've tried that actually seems to work properly with QuickGPS. I was getting satelite fixes after 5-10 minutes. Now it is more like 20 seconds on a cold start.

Cold start = zero data, has to gather all data. 20 seconds is unlikely in that scenario, even a proper SirfStar III takes 60-90s in that scenario.
Not being started "recently" is not the same as a cold start.
I personally still have the AT&T shipped rom and radio and I get warm starts in the 30-40s range and if it's been off for a day or two, it'll take 2 minutes sometimes.
Generally you'll get a much faster lock if you're still and have a good clear view of the sky. I can get a lock from warm start in a building near a window, but even 30-35 minutes could not get one if it hadn't been on recently. My SirfStar III bluetooth unit does, but that's another matter...
hi all,.
i wanna ask something,.
i am using Garmin Mobile XT, with kaiser device, but i have some problem,.
1. It tooks a very long time when it have a cold start (after soft reset), about 30 minutes, is this okay? any way to get the sattelites locked faster??
2. After i got the sattelites locked, i quit the application, the i reopen the garmin mobile XT, but it couldnt found my GPS port, (usually it found on "serial GPS - com 4",) even when i choose that port, the GPS still search for the GPS port (gps unit),. is this okay? anyway, how to fix it?? any idea?
3. when no.2 is happening i power off the device, then turning back on, then it came back again, without any cold start anymore, but after i quit the application, then i reopen it again, then case no.2 is happening again,.
please, need advice,.
thankyou so much,.
Over the last few days I have noticed that my GPS is not really working anymore. I'm not sure if this is a result of some software I've loaded or whatever, but I've noticed a few people saying that they are no longer locking onto satellites and noone is really sure what they've done - although there is a thread about the new Clove extended battery and many have mentioned that it stops the GPS from working.
I'd like to get everyone who is having problems to post here please so we can try and work out what the cause is. Some have speculated that it could be the radio but I don't think it is, I've flashed every single radio available with no change...
When I first got my diamond, I was IMPRESSED at the speed and accuracy of the GPS. I would get locks in around 10-15 seconds and using TomTom 7 I found it to be extremely accurate with regards to my position on the map.
Now it SUCKS. The other day I drove and it took 18 minutes to get a fix. When it finally did I estimate it was between 50m - 100m inaccurate. Some kind of lag is going on.
As of the last two days, I cant even seem to track ANY satellites. Since then, like I mentioned I have tried every radio and still the situation remains bad.
- I'm running a cooked ROM based on the 1.93.xx.x. (Elite 3.0)
- Current radio is .11 which seems to work well for my push email. (.05 worked well too) Other than that over the last couple of days its just been push email, a few texts and calls and really nothing else special I'm doing with the device.
Can anyone having the same problems please post here with your ROM version and let us know what your experiences are.
Thanks.
I have the same problem
Rom 1.93 - swift.

I recently bought 'htc diamond'.
I have a doubt. GPS service is for 'FREE' or we have to pay?
My phone says 'GPS download valid: 4 days. It means i can download GPS for free until another 4 days? kIndly let me know I am a newbie.

No.. Its just the GPS data thats used by the gps to get a quicker lock on the satelites.. Which then only saves you time.. It does not cost you anything besides the trafik it uses to update the data..

gps is for free, the "4 days" corresponds to the time which your device
has the almanach data for faster satellite lock in it's memory. after this time
quickgps will download the alamanach data for the next 7 days, and so on...
if you don't use this feature you still can use gps, but obtaining a fix will
take you a longer time!

I have noticed that it is also dependent on the Rom. I am into flashing different roms and have seen different behaviour of Gps with each rom.
But HARD reset is a must after each flash.
Let me know your findings.
Got my GPS working in TomTom..
Steps i took:
1: change in PPC the gps port to COM6 - So still at Baud 4800
2: TomTom - Gps configure - "Other NMEA GPS reciver" - Baud 4800 - "COM6"
3: Closed TomTom
4: changed in PPC the GPS port back to "COM4" - still baud 4800
5: TomTom - Gps configure - "Build in gps"
And done.
I have this problem- the GPS seems to get worse and worse after a hard reset or rom upgrade to the point where it won't lock on at all.
I have noticed that in TT7 a number of satellites are being found (in the gps menu)but they are greyed out. Despite this it just won't lock on however long i leave it.
I notized that I was sometimes unable to track any satellites because I swiched on "A-GPS" in the registry with some kind of editor. After switching it off the problem was gone.

Yes, Advanced Config destroy your GPS if you use it to turn on A-GPS.
Try reflashing the Radio with the same build as you are using already. It resets the GPS and did the trick for me.
How can you turn on A-GPS in the registry? Which key is it?
I have the same problems: when I use the GPS, it finds some satellites and not, and back it finds them, and not. When I use tomtom 6, the screen turns grey and colored every 5 sec., because it finds the satellites and not.
Sometimes it works good, but mostly not.
Can somebody help!!!

There is a little tool which is called "HTC GPS TOOL(S)", dont remember the exact name.. there you can search for satelites using the "cold start" option.. when some satelites are found, then push the "Nav. Init." buttion", dont close the program, just start TomTom and se if it did lock? .. Some reported this method working..

I did things a little differently to yourself, but certainly your general method has solved the problem!
Firstly, and I don't know if this is a result of the radio version I'm running but I only have COM4 and COM7. Running radio .11
Secondly, within TomTom I simply configured the GPS, I changed to other NMEA receiver, selected COM4, and Baud 4800, and then within about 10 seconds, I had a lock. This is after days of not getting a lock at all.
Restarted TomTom, switched back to 'Internal GPS Receiver' and almost instantly locked again.
Problem solved!
I had done many ROM updates and not noticed this effect, I believe now thinking back this must have been a direct result of updating the radio only from version .03 to .05
I will update the thread title.

Before the hard reste i have the tomtom working perfectely and never my htc connects the gprs for noting.
Can anyone help me please.

Hi folks!
I got those **** GPS problems with my TP and worked myself now several days through dozens of related threats. Unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be a "one-best-way" but several (even some contradicting) suggestions... - and no Wikipage so far
After playing now with a lot of suggestions (registry tweak, killing the logfiles, gpsgate / splitter, AstroGPSLauncher, some mortscripts, about 6 different RadioRoms and maybe all baudrates/config combos of 5 different navigation systems) i got now really stuck and kinda frustrated. (Read: Yes, i used the search function!) Maybe i should burn that device - OR - some of you share their GPS configs / fixes / history so that i / we can write together a comprehensive (hopefully leading to a working solution) wikipage
I would be highly interested in:
o Working solution yes or no?
o ROM & RadioROM
o Did u have GPS problems at all? Which ones? No Fix? Slow fix? inaccurate? Jumping around position / loosing the signal each and every second? Lags?
o Could you solve it?
o How?
I hope with some of those working configurations it should be possible to replicate a working device...
Thx in advance!
First feedback with working combinations (QuickGPS as standard not included):

ROMeOS 1.60.1 - Radio 1.02.25.28 - fix < 1min - no Tweaks
ROMeOS 1.51 GER - Radio 1.02.25.19 - fix <> 30sec - Portsplitter
Da_G v2.03-MSVC - Radio v1.02.25.28 - fix < 1min - (kickstart for TomTom)
NATF 3.2 ROM -1.08.25.20M1 - fix < 1 min - no Tweaks
ROMeOSĀ² v1.60.2 - 1.08.25.20M1 - fix < 15 sek - QuickGPS disabled, PagePool 32MB
LantisOS Rom -.32 ATT Radio - fix < 1min

EDIT: If possible, please post your initial fix time using VisualGPSCE outside with a clear view of the sky (no kick starting allowed, just fire up VisualGPSCE and start a timer)? Set VisualGPSce to COM4: at 115200 bps (speed doesn't really matter as long as its >4800). : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3116607&postcount=7

Thanks to Sleuth for the standartisation hint!
Did you change your Navigating Software to the new ports of the comsplitter with the GPS Signal? I had the same secondly changing signal- no signal, but after installing comportsplitter and changing the settings of the Navigating sw to the new ports there is a constant strong signal there with no lag.... Using ROMeOS 1.51 Ger and Radio 1.02.25.19. I tried nearly all radios, but most of them cause a big battery leak (for my TP)

P.S. I have a fix in nearly 30 seconds, but only after clearing the gps cache with the htc tools. the first fix took about 45 Minutes, but now its at half a minute. I deactivatet agps as recommended in many threats in several forums, but i use quickGPS
Thx for your information! (Sure i changed to the new Comports *g*)
Using ROMeOS 1.60.1 and radio 1.02.25.28 i get a fix in under a minute, just by using QuickGPS included in the rom.
Same radio configuration with Da_G 2.03 (see sig). VisualGPSce can fix outside in < 1 minute. TomTom needed to be "kick started" by another pgm but could see the GPSID natively (gave the built-in gps option in device configuration). After omitting the Flags value=2 (GPSID driver is unloadable) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID then TomTom was able to warm start the GPS in < 1 minute as well without needing a "kick start".
Currently, TomTom updates the display 3-4 times/sec and has little if no lag (cross streets on map pass by at the same time as the car does at 40mph). The only thing I continue to suffer from is "speed lag" whereby TomTom doesn't track with the speedometer when I slow down to 0mph. This can result in the car display ending up in the intersection on the map when the car is stopped (then it "snaps back"). I'm going to see how TomTom 6.x deals with this so I can get an apples to apples comparison with my Tilt which didn't suffer from speed lag.
Could I suggest Standardizing our tests?
What's your initial fix time using VisualGPSCE outside with a clear view of the sky (no kick starting allowed, just fire up VisualGPSCE and start a timer)? Set VisualGPSce to COM4: at 115200 bps (speed doesn't really matter as long as its >4800).
The first time you get a fix on any given day should be the one you report as this will be the longest. The reason is that QuickGPS ephemeris data will be used which gives approximate satellite positions. Subsequent fixes (try it!) will be lightning quick because you will be using actual ephemeris data downloaded from the satellites which gives precise sky locations for the time duration that the birds remain visible.
I am using NATF 3.2 ROM and 1.08.25.20M1 Radio. I use OCN8 and it gets <1 minute fix. No changes done to comp port or baud rate. However, it takes tweaking got get fix for Google Maps in little over 1 minute. I do experience LAG on OCN8 though.
I used to use Elice RC2 and 1.08.25.20M1 ROM. LAG was very very minimal but took more time to fix.
Here's the installation cab for VisualGPSce btw. It's freeware.

Yep VGPSCE is a classic tool
http://dl.htc.com/downloadfiles/Rom...ned_Raphael_52.44.25.24_1.08.25.20M1_Ship.exe
I flashed this ROM and it works perfect for me.
my config (signature) fixes up under 15 seconds when moving, <1minute when standing on one place. QuickGPS disabled, PagePool 32MB
For me prior to updating my ROM I could not get a GPS fix no matter what I did. Some of the newer ROMs use new GPS Drivers. This must have fixed my problem. I tried others older ROMS and no Fix, I tried a few Radios and no Fix.
I'm using LantisOS Rom, and the .32 ATT Radio. My GPS works with AGPS enabled or disabled, it doesn't matter.
I still have some lag, but its not too bad.
Here is what I do to get a fix.
1. I use QuickGPS to download the data.
2. I Launch Chartcross GPS Test to get a fix usually in under a minute if I havent used it for awhile. If I used it earlier in the day i can get a fix in like 5 seconds.
3. I either close or minimize GPS Test and launch my GPS program. (Google maps, Live Search, & iGuidance all work for me)
P.S. I do not use HTC GPS Tool as I've never got it to work. I have VisualGPSce which is good for viewing some data, but it seems that Chartcross GPS Test gets a fix way faster.
I added a short, unprofessional Wiki Page so that we can collect this information more efficiently...

Please feel free to add your data and improve the page in language, style, structure etc.
For me totally not understandable: The first evening i tried with Romeos 1.704 & GPS it was impossible to get a fix. I cleared cache with HTC GPS Tool and did all the other things, tried with visual gps, gps mouse, glopus and others but i didnt get a fix, even after running 3 hours in the night the sattelites remained red.
next day, when i tried to work on this problem in the same room, same place, i had a fix in a few seconds....

P.S. My Radio is version 1.10.25.25
I was starting to have problems with AT&T stock ROM (1.95.502.5 WWE) & radio 1.02.25.32. All I had to do was disable A-GPS, use quick GPS to download data and then use GPS test to lock on to the birds. Also I have noticed that it becomes a lot quicker to get a signal without a case. Using a metal case sometimes it would become impossible for me to get a fix.

I remember 2 things that are importand(that I dont know how to setup in the PRO):
1. how the GPs handles static situations(dont remember the name) but the lag i get when i'm static or in a slow motion(traffic) is exactly what happend when i changed my BT GPS settings back in the day.
it was called "Static Navigation" : will "freeze" the position at very low speed to cancel out the drifting resulting from the natura "inaccuray" of GPS - should be disabled for pedestrian use - see below for details
2. Track Smoothing : wrill smoothen the track to remove the "jumps" resulting from the natural "inaccuracy" of the GPS system (10/15 meters) - disabled by default
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25575
Just got my Vario IV yesterday and quickly flashed mrvanx's Elite Project rc3 rom.
Stuck in traffic this morning I noticed that any gps app i tried would find the internal GPS, find satellites, lock, then disconnect. It kept doing this for any gps app.
I tried disabling a-gps and the problem vanished, all the apps worked properly and maintained a GPS lock for around 20 minutes.
Its been fine sofar since then...

no one know the NEMA codes to change the GPS's unit settings?
Vodafone Touch Pro
ROM: 1.90.162.5 GER
Radio: 1.02.25.19
I tried all
...tweaks with advanced config tool
...registry tweaks
nothing helped.
Switched to Navigon Mobile Navigator 7 (free download on their website inkl. maps for europe to test for 30 days) and thried that.
Works perfect. Bought it afterall...
GPS fix in about 3 - 15 seconds depending on the location (NO QuickGPS in use) // no more GPS lags.
Really strange...
after trying a lot of radioroms, tweaks etc. i decided to go back to the initial ROM of my t-mobile branded Vario 4: 1.02.25.19
Guess what? Instant fix. Great reception. No tweaking needed...
OK, battery life is worse than other roms... but GPS is fully working! The difference is not big - its HUGE! With all the other roms, gps was just unuseable (fixes around 20mins or never, disconnections each and every second etc.)!
This brings up a question: Did anybody research the gps related differences between several roms? It would be great to know why 1.02.25.19 is such a difference on our (t-mobile) device(s?)....
Hi,
first of all: I also have the GPS-fix-problem
Now my question:
In this Thread I found this link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=GPS%20Issues
and at the bottom I found this link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/JCEspi2005 GPS Lag Fix Raphael.cab
I installed this cab, but nothing has changed...so I'm wondering what this cab should have done? Or does I have to change something after installation?
pls help ^^
Greetings
Chris
BTW: I'm from Germany, sorry for any mistakes
So it's become aware to me that for whatever reason, apps (GPS Photo, TomTom, Google Maps) are unable to get a GPS fix unless I first start up Chartcross GPS Test.
So first of all, why is this? Is the GPS Test software just tweaked to get a quick and dirty fix, or is it doing something that normal GPS software isn't?
Finally, do Windows Mobile devices run batch files? In desktop Windows I could write a batch file that, when run, would launch GPS Test PLUS whatever app I wanted, TomTom for example, and when TomTom is terminated, GPS Test is automatically ended. That would simplify this GPS quirk.
You could use MortScript (search here) to set up a script to at least do the startup part. I don't know enough about it to know if it could manage the shutdown part, too.
With regards to using GPSTest before your GPS apps it may be the case that GPSTest just does a better job of managing the GPS in the phone, but I think it's largely a placebo effect. Starting GPSTest before you start your nav program starts the GPS sooner, and you have a program actively seeking a fix for the duration of time it takes to then start the nav program and let it load completely before it starts looking for a fix. If you start that nav program when the GPS is inactive (no GPSTest running) you haven't even started that process until the program is fully loaded, so the initial fix takes a lot longer.
Well I have to disagree with the placebo thing, if I just startup TomTom alone with no fix, it takes at least 15 minutes to get a fix (I always give up), but if I start GPS test, it gets a fix within 20 seconds and then TomTom is fine.
No firsthand experience with TomTom software, so it may very well be that it just does a very poor job of handling the GPS interface. I can't imagine why that would be, but I'm no expert on how the phone handles the GPS integration either.
I know with Garmin Mobile XT and Google Maps it would often take a few minutes (up to maybe 6 or 7 minutes) to get that initial fix after a cold start, and I often felt like having GPSTest running made that shorter, too, but not by a terribly significant amount. The only explanation I can think of is that perhaps, on start up, these other programs only poll the GPS occasionally to see if it has acquired a fix whereas GPSTest maintains a constant connection. In its attempts to manage power the phone could be handicapping the GPS when it doesn't have a constant "listener" by powering it down. That's really just a shot in the dark, though...
The only thing that made a worthwhile difference for me was upgrading the phone's radio ROM. GPS fix problems are a thing of the past, regardless of the program I'm using.
