Tilt reboots when GPS kicks on - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Bought an ATT Tilt a week ago, unlocked it, got it working just fine with 4 different GPS apps including Mapopolis and Anywhere Map.
Suddenly, yesterday, I fire up the auto map app (Mapopolis) and the GPS icon (brown) flashes then the thing reboots. And again and again no matter what GPS app or utility I use. After wasting a day fooling with it, I did a hard reset and got rid of the crapware. And it continues to reboot anytime the GPS is accessed.
Any help? Never dropped it, its brand new. I never saw it reboot on its own before.
Thanks

Might have stumbled on a "fix" doing some further reading. QuickGPS was expired and I coudn't get it to re-connect. Did the below and it seems to now work (still aquiring Sats as I write but at least its not rebooting.) Odd!!

If you've already got one, it works fine, but it won't "dial up" (for want of a better term) to the internet itself.
Open IE or Opera, go to Google.com then open QuickGPS and hit Connect. Works every time for me.
BINGO, worked for me. Just starting an internet connection (WiFi) alone won't do it but open IE first and go somewhere and now it works!

GPS on AT&T Tilt only works 'once' after hard reset

I purchased an AT&T Tilt. I wanted to lose the ATT crap so I picked installed a ROM and started over again. I messed around with the external GPS settings and the GPS didn't work any more. So I read the forums and hard reset the device. I ran QuickGPS then GPSTest. GPSTest found four satelittes then stopped. I ran Google Maps and it kept saying the GPS was not responding. After about 10 minutes of standing in my front yard I looked at GPSTest and it was no longer picking up satelittes. I did a soft reset and the problem still remains.
I have _not_ touched the external GPS settings since the hard reset. GPSTest now does not detect that port on autoscan.
Any suggestions? It would really suck to have a defective GPS since I just ripped out the ATT rom.
If a hard reset doesn't fix the problem, I wouldn't think there is much more you can do after that. I assume you have a warranty? If so don't pull your hair out over it, just get it exchanged.

That posts relates to QuickGPS not connecting. This is not my problem. My problem is the GPS itself is not being recognized any longer by any debug program (VisualGPSCE / GPSTest / GPSInfo)
Just for kicks I did try the registry settings....nothing so far
Same Problem.... Sort of
I am new to the Tilt. I downloaded the HTC Home plugin from this site, and now I can't connect to the Web, GPRS, etc. I love the look of the HTC Home page, but how do I reconnect the Web, etc.?

Does MAP4PDA kill Kaiser GPS?

So here's my story - I bought my AT&T Tilt last week. I stayed with the default Tilt ROM (until someone comes up with something better). Everything is working fine. I try out the GPS by running QuickGPS and then Google Maps. It worked great the first day and for the next week I fought with it and never did get it working again.
So, I broke down and hard reset my phone. It's a pain, yes, but oh well. It has been working just fine for the past couple of days. I have tried many different GPS apps including Pocket Streets, Google Maps, Windows Live Search, GPS Test, GPSinfo, Street Atlas, Virtual Earth, VisualGPSce. All of them work good and I can always get a signal lock within 30 seconds.
NOTE: I never ran QuickGPS.
Now today on my way home, some putz decides to create a huge traffic jam on I-94 west out of Minneapolis by getting in an accident. So I decided to put my time to good use by playing with my phone. I'm loving the fact that I can get a signal lock in seconds. Then, I open up MAP4PDA 1.4 because it works the same as GM and has a nice speedometer function (BTW, the speedometer in my Jetta is 2 MPH off up to about 80 MPH; after that it's about 3 MPH off).
BAM, the thing is hanging up my phone searching for the damn GPS and the ex-wife is calling me asking me when I'm going to pick up our daughter. So I soft reset. Now I can't get any of my GPS apps to work. NOTHING.
I am fairly convinced that MAP4PDA is the culprit, but I want your guys' opinions. I am off to hard reset my phone (again).
Opinions are very welcome. Have any of you guys been successful with MAP4PDA??

GPS Help?

Forgive my inability to find a solution in search (at least I made the effort).
Stock Tilt
Stock AT&T ROM
Registered TomTom Nav6
GPS worked flawlessly for the past months.......matter of fact, the entire device has been flawless until now.
Tonight when I pulled the phone from my case, I got a pop-up explaining that QuickGPS had expired (or some such silly blue screen). All I could do is close it (I've never launched QuickGPS since I've owned the device and have no idea how it could have activated).
Best I can tell, my receivers are now disabled.
Settings in TomTom still show:
other GPS receiver
baud 4800
comm4
Suggestions?
try opening quickgps ( u'll find under programs") and click download and download the data..then run tomtom again and see if u get a fix
Yeah download the data from QuickGPS. It takes an insane amount of time to require a fix with any program without a sattelite map in my experience.
You might have never noticed it because it downloads automatically when you connect to ActiveSync or other data networks if enabled.
I'm pretty sure that's your problem. A current sattelite map (I don't really know what it's called) lasts for 7 days.
Thanks for the tips.
What seems to have happened was that QuickGPS must have been activated last week at some point (no clue exactly just *how* that occured). The message I got last night was that it had "expired" (I see now that each download lasts for a week then expires).
Nothing I tried would get TomTom receiving again. After reading further threads, I noticed that we should NEVER TOUCH EXTERNAL GPS SETTINGS (which of course I had already done at that point). I figured I was facing a hard reset.
But my solution came as passively as the problem did. In THIS POST "ach2" suggests running GPSTest (included in the thread) after a hard reset.
I figured, wtf....why not give it a try before I hard reset? I let GPSTest run for about 30 minutes until it had acquired a HDOP score....minimized it....launched TomTom....and low-and-behold all is working normally again.
I've since disemboweled QuickGPS so as to never bother me or TomTom again.
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks ach2 wherever you are.
Actually QuickGPS is something you want to use. It downloads the Sat. info & saves your device major time in aquiring the sat tracks.
I use Quick GPS all the time, even if it hasn't expired.

Please help... No GPS device

I've had my diamond for a year. I've been running TomTom 6 or 7.0
The nav's been working fine. My last mod was an updated Radio 1.25 and the best of my knowledge, it's been working fine.
However, now all I get when I start TomTom up is "waiting for a valid GPS signal"
I went into config and I've got other NMEA GPS receiver selected, 4800 baud and COM 4.
The same settings I've been using except now it doesn't work.
I hate to bother ya'll but I put my phone on ebay and I was making sure everything was working before it got sold and discovered this.
I don't want to sell it without it working correctly.
Thanks,
Mark
I actually had the same thing happen to my 8925 Tilt. and recently getting the Fuze I have yet to have it continually get a good gps lock. One day it will find 10 satellites and the next 8 days it wont find any. It is very annoying and not something I expected out of a brand new phone.
Well, I did a little searching and apparently it seems a lot of people download a gps fix update directly from tomtom.
I'll call them monday. I checked their site and even installed tomtom home but was not able to find anywhere to get a download.
I'll post back Monday.
Thanks,
Mark
Just a quick update: I had left TomTom running for 15-20 minutes each time I had tried to use it with no avail.
Then before I went to bed last night, I just left it on (and plugged in.... damn battery drainer) and when I woke up this morning, it had found it's satellites.
I'm still going to call TomTom Monday but apparently it's working, it's just slow.

GPS working for a few seconds and then freezes/doesn't work?

So I've had my diamond for a about year now. Tried dozens of roms and settled for the mystery rom. (for those who don't know, mystery rom utilizes wm 6.5 with Touch Pro 2 Manila interface). I also have quickGPS updated every week or so.
Google maps and tomtom have been working flawlessly with the GPS up to about a couple days ago. Now I've been having problems with both programs (and probably any programs that uses the GPS) finding my location and freezing my phone.
So with google maps, what would happen is that I would tap "use GPS" and it would track my location in a few seconds. Then what happens is the blue dot with the direction arrow would turn into just a blue dot without the arrow. This is probably when the GPS suddenly fails and my location isn't being tracked anymore (sometimes this would freeze google maps and sometimes my whole phone and I would need to do a soft reset).
When it doesn't freeze, the GPS would not work until I do a soft reset and the same thing happens when I try again.
Same with Tomtom. It would say "Waiting for a valid GPS signal" (meaning that it recognizes the GPS device) and then after a couple seconds it would stay on "No GPS Found" and it would just stay like that.
Now, is this a hardware problem? even though it's happening pretty consistantly and I would think that it wouldn't work at all if it was something with the GPS hardware.
If it's a software problem, the only significant thing I've done since last week is install memmaid and delete some old files/caches. Could this affect my GPS at all if I accidently some specific old/temporary files?
If anyone has any insight into my problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Getting lost is not fun
Thanks!!
