What is the best car holder for in-car Navigation using TYTNII and tom-tom 6 ?
This one is from HTC :

Anyone knows if TYTN and tom/tom 6 work well for navigation ? I am wondering whether I should spend more money to get a Tom-Tom GO 520 t , with a LCD screen and apparently more options than tom tom 6 .

And there is one with speaker :

I own a Mio C520T gps system which I normally use in my car, but sometimes I forget it and then use my TyTN. The tt6 on my TyTN performs excellent for navigation in my car.
The screen isnt as big as my Mio but for navigation performance it works as fast and precize as my Mio device. I'm very pleased of it

So the TYTN II GPS receiver works in-car without antena attached via the GPS antena port ?
Yes and very good.
The build-in gps receiver in the TyTN 2 is excellent and gets a satellite fix as fast as my gps device

I see. I thought the TYTN II might not get GPS reception since the GPS device is built-in and when the TYTN II is in the car cradle the signal might get obstructed by the car roof. I guess it depends on the type of car u are driving.

The receiver is GREAT! I even get reception inside my apartment. Our building is very well constructed, to the point that at times I don't even get reception on my cell phone, but the GPS still works, even when not near a window etc.
I used to have a Treo 750, with GlobalSat GPS receiver, and at times it would take several minutes to get a fix, with the receiver in this phone, the fix is almost instantaneous every time.
In my opinion ProClip is the only way to go when it comes to holding my Tilt in the truck. It's a completely custom solution.

Where are you putting your device ? It should not matter what car you drive. I get reception when I'm in the front, in the back and even in the trunk of the car.

I am beginning to think u've got much stronger GPS satellites there in the US. Here in UK GPS is definitely not working in house. No experience in-car as of yet. I am getting my fist car next month.
Well ... GPS satellites are mobile ! so, everybody finally gets in contacts with all of them !
But in US, walls are definitely thinner than in Europe
I had very decent GPS signal inside building while trying my device in Luxembourg. In Croatia where I live it is a little weaker in building but still I can get it.
Regarding cars, some cars have special metal coating on windows (solar protection or something like that) that is blocking GPS signal. In such cases you need external antenna. Also it seems that some manufacturers are aware of this and they are coating only some of windows. Fox example I noticed on Ford S-Max that I can get signal if I put device near front left or right corner window...

This may sound crazy, and may be purely coincidental, but when I was using free software for gps (Google Maps, and Windows Live Search), my signal indoors seemed weaker, and now that I have switched to iGo, my signal indoors is much stronger.
I get a very decent signal indoors here with my Tytn 2 in the UK, with thick insulated brick walls and double glazed windows I average 3-4 satellites anywhere in the house , my external bluetooth one struggles to get 1 satellite when sat next to a window. The GPS reception on the Tytn 2 is very impressive and for me tracks my location to within 3-4ft even indoors

i think the tytn 2 fits your bill, as the e90 are missing some features from the list.
kms
-a good keyboard (Kaiser: YES)
-very good reception (Kaiser: YES)
-good camera (Kaiser: depends on the light, not good for indoor)
-a good GPS (Kaiser: YES)
-Synchronisation with Outlook should work flawlessly (Kaiser: YES, Windows!)
-good readabilty outdoors (Kaiser: depends, for me is OK, readable most of the time)
-good one-hand "functionality" (Kaiser: depends, but again I have no problem)
Thank you very much for your replies. Can you tell me, how simple or how complicated it is to write umlauts like ä, ö, ü? It's because I use them quite a lot.
Thank you again.

I've had both these phones so
-a good keyboard - The E90 has a better keyboard but only if you put it on a desk if your holding it in your hands the Kaiser is best as on the E90 you cannot reach the middle keys whilst holding it.
-very good reception - Both very similar, the E90 did hold reception extremly well and i would say had the edge on the Kaiser
-good camera - Not really tried the camera on the E90 very much but both adequate pictures but far from professional quality.
-a good GPS - The Kaiser wins this hands dowm, i use tomtom a lot and find it brilliant on the Kaiser, the E90 worked ok with its own software but does not work with most mainline apps without an external GPS and even using its own software it was a struggle to get a good reception.
-Synchronisation with Outlook should work flawlessly. The E90 synced fine and so does the kaiser but the kaiser does sync additional info like giving you the option to add full recurring calender options. The E90 failed to sync tasks correctly if they reacurred you had to make them complete on the PC or the next one would not apear. (hope that makes sense)
-good readabilty outdoors - Yes both worked fine.
-good one-hand "functionality" I've always hated the PPC dial pad and contact options for one handed use so have to say the E90 has it on this one for me.
Other considerations that i feel you should consider
The call quality on the Kaiser is terrible on Bluetooth handsfree.
Having said that the E90 has one huge problem and the main reason for me swapping. When i purcahsed it the main reason was the fact i loved the symbian opeating system and having a full keyboard and huge screen. The problem with it is when you open the keyboard to surf the net where you hold the phone your finger must sit right over the 3G aerial as every single time i use it to surf i end up loosing 3g signal unless its maximum strength and it drops to normal 2 /2w.5g which is terrible for browsing normal web pages. For browsing on non wifi connections you can forget using the E90 unless you use it 100 yards from the base station.
Hope this helps your consideration.
I tested both and can only say throw the nokia in the basket it can`t even be compared with the Kaiser
I would say the symbian os has too many bugs and reset to often, if you compare it with windows mobile.
I had the E90 but could not stand it for more than a week before I sold it for a huge loss.
No matter what you have heard of Nokia but the build quality was pathetic. The casing creeked giving the impression of cheap quality. The key tops had started scratching the inner screen and the unit would wobble if you made an attempt to use it like a laptop. The keyboard may look very impressive but was a horrible experience to use. I am using Touchpal right now and find it much better than the Nokia hardware keyboard.
Lack of good software was another reason for me not keeping the Nokia. Was not able to find a decent spreadsheet which would even come close to SoftMakers PlanMaker
Hi, I also tried the E90 and the Kaiser. All I can say is "forget the E90". Especially if you want to use GPS. The Kaiser worked well just laying on the seat, the Nokia must be direct behind the screen. The synchronisation works much better on the Kaiser. I have a few friends with two first names, the Nokia made three entries out of them.
Just to add my two cents worth.
I use a Kaiser (Tilt) now, but had used Symbian in its various PDA and phone iterations from 1991 (yes) until 2007.
The Kaiser has a touch screen and I think that makes it a more efficient PDA.
The E90 screen does color far better
The Nokia sync suite, I think, handles general sync issues better with Outlook than does ActiveSync. I believe it is more stable and certainly gives more control over when to sync and how to handle conflicts....but it doesn't sync categories - which is a pain.
All in all, though I am not looking to move from WinMob back to Symbian anytime soon.
I passed the e90
Having been a user of previous Nokia Communicators (9100), Sony Ericsson P800, P910 and a Nokia N73 I took delivery of a Tytn II earlier this week.
For about two hours I was not fully convinced, but gradually as I started using the system I found myself continually being impressed at smaller features, which when you add them up make the TytnII greater than the sum of its parts. I did also look at the E90, however it is considerably bigger than the TytN II.
For me the keyboard is too small on the Tytn II, however the touch screen makes up for it, and is actually faster than I recall my speed to have been on my previous communicator, which of course had a bigger keyboard.
I have now been won over by this phone. I am still having a few teething troubles with email (which I intend to post here under a separate thread) but this may be me simply being more demanding that the phone can deliver.
Don't be concerned that this is running Windows, as it is no quicker or slower than any other smartphone I've used, and it's doing a hell of a lot more.
In short I think there is no contest, and I am a fan of Nokias! The Tytn II is smaller, has a touch screen, has reasonable battery life (so far!) and a wealth of software (although in fairness so does the E90). By all means go to a shop and take a look at both, but I think you'll walk away with a Tytn II...
The Kaiser for me is much better.
My only gripe is that I prefer the keyboard from the original Wizard/XDA Mini S
It's more precise.
Also the Kaiser touchscreen isn't as sensitive as the Wizards.
I left the world of Nokia after over a decade when I used the N80. This was such a disastrous phone I went over to HTC TyTN (and now the TyTN II) and I've never looked back.
Nokia's recent announcement to start using touch screen technology says it all really about how far behind they are now.

Is this the definition of an unfounded statement???
The tech specs pretty much leans towards the Nokia, but I include it just to show I'm unbiased.
The selling point for the Kaiser is the applications available for WM6 vs S60. If you go to handago.com, you'll notice that there are at least 2x more applications for Windows Mobile than there are applications for Symbian.
edit: almost forgot to mention, good luck finding a huge selection of ROMs for a Symbian device, like we have here...

There are no good description for this product. Does anyone know what they do?
I think this is an ordinary gps modul and description made by someone who does not know there is already a gps receiver built-in in X1.
maybe you use it to help find your keys?

Right but the description confuses me and it does sound exactly like what jabe said. But I would so buy this if it was key finder.
It just a bluetooth GPS module that fits on a key chain. You don't need it as the X1 already has a built in GPS chip. If you had a smartphone without a GPS chip, then there's be some benefit to it.
Or if you wanted to use GPS stuff on a laptop or something with BT etc.
Suppose your X1 is positioned in your car that way that the GPS reception is bad but you cannot relocate it. You can set it up to receive GPS signals from this external module. The module itself can be put anywhere like near a window or on the car's roof or so.
WTF? Did you even read? "The Freedom Keychain GPS 2000 is the world’s lightest and most compact pocket GPS receiver."
It's an external GPS receiver.
gps is receiving only!
you pick up a signal from several satellites and the device calc your position
this keythingy have gps and bluetooth
bluetooth have a range of 10m so even if it could transmit
it's cords to your phone then you would have to be pretty close to the lost keys
an external gps, my brother has one but of a different brand. his loads really quick and there's no need to wait on finding satellites. i'm not sure how this performs though, but for a keychain it seems promising for other phones without a built-in gps
I actually have one of those. Well, mine is a white Vodafone branded one, but it's the same chip, hardware, box, everything. It's actually still vaguely useful - it's DGPS capable (WAAS/EGNOS), which the X1's GPS chip is not (augmented accuracy within certain systems, WAAS for North America/Canada and out to sea within several hundred miles, EGNOS for Europe etc), and it has apparently far better reception - my X1i couldn't pick up a GPS signal to save its life inside a BA Boeing 777 flight. The bluetooth'd external reciever picked up and held a strong signal for the entire 3500 mile flight at 40k ft. And inside a plane fuselage, that's got to be borderline faraday cage.
hi there, I'm looking for a good fm-transmitter to use with my hd2. I use a lot of different cars during the day due to work and the only car that has a line-in is my own. I can't change anything about those cars because they are not mine.
Now I need a fm-transmitter to use my hd2 in those cars. Who has one or had one and can recommend one. I read a lot about ****ty quality and bad reception, that's why I'm asking you guys. and the one limitation is that I don't want one to plug into the car-charger. the one I have my eye on is the Belkin TuneCast 2/3.
I hope you can help me chose a good one.
After some siginificant research, and some very disappointing results with cheap chinese FM transmitters, I bought my wife a Motorola T505, see here:
http://video.google.co.uk/videosear...orola+55+handsfee+fm&vid=-4588731908718964954
Very easy to set up and use, and the sound quality is very good. Battery life is also good although it can be connected to a car charger via it's mini usb (and we all have loads of them lying about now HTC have gone micro, right?). it's well made and just feels quality right out of the box.
All, in all, I'm very happy with the result, especially as it knocks the others for six costwise.
what i would like is something similar to this

so that I can simply unplug it from my own car and straight into the works van and keep it charged with minimal fuss.
My friend has one like this for his ipod and it works great.
Has anyone seem anything similar? or is it too early for products like this to be released yet
I'm using http://www.chronos.com.tw/_products_0616/mp3/Car mp3-delux/Car mp3-delux.htm for 3 years, first with usb stick, later with WM phones.
Just need to switch usb mode on phone to "storage card/disk drive" and you get music from memery card + car charger.
Sound quality is as good as normal fm radio station. Worse than cd/mp3 car player, but usefull for multiple cars.
I am using this motorola motorokrt505 bluetooth fm transmitter it works seamlessly with LEO and Xperia X1 music and phone. It will answer calls and switch between songs in your play list, it will even start your HTC music player without going into the phones menu. Battery life on it is superb I charge it once a week and have never ran out of battery.

I ordered a Belkin Tunecast II and will report back soon. It's enough for my usage and it should do the trick, hope the quality is ok.
I have been using the Venturi Mini http://www.myventuri.com/overview.aspx for a while now with my iPhone and it works brilliantly - A2DP stereo bluetooth, a USB connector to enable you to charge your HD2 and it does handsfree calling.
I have been impressed with the sound quality (once you've found an FM channel that is free all the way from home to work). It connects to your phone reliably and simply - press any button when you get in the car and it pairs.
The only problem I have had with it is if you go out of range of it for a short period of time (If you leave for a long period it turns itself off) - when you return to your car it doesn't automatically pair. But you simply have to remove it briefly from the cigarette and push it back in
de5perate,
If I may ask a few questions:
1. Do you use the Venturi to charge your HD2? I believe it only delivers 500mA on the USB, and I'm not sure that's enough to charge the HD2. I wouldn't want to buy one only to find out that I can't charge my HD2.
2. Do you use your Venturi and HD2 for satnav as well? If so, are you happy with the combination?
3. Somebody told me that you could listen to your favourite radio station and when a call comes through, the radio automatically commutes to the Venturi frequency and you can take the call. Is this true?
Thank you very much.
I got the Jabra SP700 yesterday (£34 from Amazon). Only had one journey with it and a quick play, but it seems good so far. The FM transmitter seems nice and strong, and the speakerphone seems to work well.
got my tunecast II today and had the chance to test it with two standalone fm-radios and it seems to work fine, given you place it in a good position towards the antenna. will have a try tomorrow in my car at work, a new VW Passat. Hope it works there as well.

+1 for wanting to know this also. This looks like a good piece of kit.
Also what connection comes out of the unit to charge the HD2? USB?

the HD2 charges from a PC USB connection, there's an option to disable it when sync'[d, so it must do. USB only provides 500ma, so it should be charge, although it might be a little slower than from a mains charger.
The Answer is late, but could be useful for other users

The only problem is the backround noise being too loud. It is hissing.

hey guys, i've recently started a new job which involves a lot of driving, listening to the radio all the time gets quiet dull so my question is.....is there a way to listen to music stored on my phone through the car stereo at all....?. please tell me theres a way.....
cheers.
Hey mate! Yes there is a way to play music to your radio; if your radio supports "AUX" or "Bluetooth".
A cheap way though is this:
You need this to plug in your HD2 with the radio:
It's a cord that has 3,5mm Jack on both sides.

A radio with AUX support:
There are some cheap Branded or Chinese radios that support this feature.
I personally have a JVC with "Aux" feature in my VW.
If your radio don't have "AUX" support then i am out of ideas!
Firstly, congrats on the new job
If the job involves lots of driving like mine does, then chances are the company will pay for a bluetooth hands free kit, as if they expect you to talk while on the road they cannot expect you to always pull over, and certainly can't expect you to drive whilst holding the phone (£60 fine and 3 points doesn't go down well).
I've got a Jabra SP700 which is great, clips to the sun visor, uses the same USB connector as the HD2 to charge, and has a built in FM transmitter.
People hear me clearly, and they sound loud and clear to me.
Has a long battery life in use and on standby.
When someone calls it reads out the phone number, but other models will actually transmit the number using RDS so you'll get it up on the head unit.
Dude he want's to listen music from his HD2 on the car radio.
He don't need any Jabra stuff! lol

It's an option, and a bloody good one as driving in the UK whilst using your phone without handsfree can lead you to 3 points on your licence (increases your insurance premium in many cases) and a £60 fine. Plus many head units don't have an aux in, so FM transmitter is the only way.
Many businesses need drivers with clean licences for their corporate insurance so points can mean unemployment.
That's another important point (not normally an issue if the company provides the car and insurance), make sure you have business use on your insurance, most come with social/domestic/commuting to your usual place of work, and will add business use for no extra charge (or just an admin fee).
Here's a decent purchase for £11 if you're going to be driving a lot with the HD2. Windscreen mount that doesn't wobble, screen protectors, rubber bump cases (clear and black), stylus, charger, leather case.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310314688415
Great choice dude!
That spring loaded 3.5mm jack you posted definitely would be perfect where the head's got an aux socket.
Getting audio to your car
If your car stereo doesn't have Aux inputs or Bluetooth there are still a few ways to get audio from your phone.
1. A portable FM wireless transmitter (Quality isn't that great)
2. You can get an adapter box that plugs into the antenna jack on the back of your stereo and transmits the audio as a FM signal. Most automotive stores seem to have fairly cheap ones and they are better quality than the wireless FM transmitter. I've one in my Echo that i picked up for only $15 Australian.
3. You can get an adapter that plugs into the CD input port on the back of many stereos and then your phone shows up as a 'CD player'. I used to have one in my old car from GROM (gromaudio.com). It worked very well as an Aux input. They now have more models but they seem to have better intergration with iPhones
I would also like to try it with the "double aux port"
So i need to run my music app and the music is directly available over my radio? o0
If your car HU has USB support, then make sure your HD2 loads USB mass storgae when it detects a usb cable. Then you can use your HU to change folders/tracks and not touch the HD2 at all.
thanks for all the replys guys but it looks like im screwed. the stereo has no aux and im not too sure the company would be too happy for me to start ripping it out to add things in the back of it......gutted. i might have to go down the fm jabra or whatever it is route, how bad can i expect the sound to be...?. i've seen this but dunno....any thoughts..?

Does the stereo have a cassette deck? You can get an adapter for it. Just search e-bay for cassette adapter.

If your car HU has USB support, then make sure your HD2 loads USB mass storgae when it detects a usb cable. Then you can use your HU to change folders/tracks and not touch the HD2 at all.

I thought of the same thing and I was surprised that this suggestion only came in the 2nd page. Well it's probably because new cars don't use cassette players any more, but I still think there a lots of cars with them.
Good luck and let us know which option did you choose.

Looks good to me, has more control over the HD2 than my one does in that you should be able to use the buttons on the Cruiser to pause/play/next/last etc. It may actually read out the names from your address book too rather than just the numbers like mine does. And it's cheaper than mine
why didn`t you use an usb, it`s easyer as with the htc
Use app2radio and turn your car touch-screen in-dash navigton/radio into a touch screen for your phone!
Ok, so I researched this, bought the parts, set it up in my car..... and can verify this works with our S4.
Pioneer makes a multi-touch head unit to install in your car. The creator of the app called arliborator created a program for your phone (that replaces the Pioneer program) that allows your phone to hdmi out your screen on the in-dash display. Additionally the app allows it so that when you press (or pinch/multi-touch) the in-dash display in your car, it controls your phone!
So now I can control my phone from the dash and have my phone display on the dash
Great for: google maps, movies, pandora tuned-in radio. The other thing I can do is have in-dash obd readings from my car (I have a bluetooth obd reader installed in my car). So I can see my mph, mpg, rpms, as well as check and clear fault codes..... all from my dash!
The head unit a rear view camera hookup. It uses the radio's gps which is faster lock than our phones (and it doesn't use phone batteries.
There's so much more too that this does. Check out this video to see what I'm talking about:

I picked this head unit up (app2radio or sph-da100) for $269 refurbished!
I have an older head unit:

Will this work with that unit?
I am considering changing that out anyways, as it needs an additional module for the backup camera and the current generation ZR1 doesn't come with one.
Nope. Won't work. No appradio mode or HDMI in on the deck.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Looking forward to testing this out. I have the AppRadio2 in my car and truck. Been using it with an HTC EVO 4g LTE but the Bluetooth is buggy on it. Moving over to the S4 after using HTC devices since the original Touch.
Phone should be at home when I get in tonight. Looking forward to a better phone, navigation and Pandora using the S4 over the EVO.... Also using ARLiberator and Car Home Ultra. Great combo on this radio.
Using a touch screen interface in a moving car is a losing proposition unless one is in a funeral procession.
Also, it means the screen is too low and too close to the driver for a safe viewing angle. There is a reason most OEM have gone to a control device for the screen.
It you need to, check out the Cadillac Cue system, or an older Lexus with touchscreen. Fail when the vehicle is moving.
I had the App2Radio installed & it was ONLY useful with the ARLiberator app. The problem is, horrible audio disconnection every 15 seconds, screens blurring repeatedly. It was enough after 3 days installed that I decided to return it. I had high hopes for it as years ago, I had ALWAYS wished for a dash "dumb terminal" that I could control my phone with.

I've since installed the Parrot Asteroid Smart (Android 2.3.7) & rooted it & haven't been more satisfied. As it stands, I've got my radar detector, ODBII bluetooth module, and cell phone all connected thru my PAS via bluetooth simultaneously & it works near flawlessly. I have some automation (on my phone & PAS) I'm wanting to setup (Tasker) & it'll be perfect (automatically enable BT tethering, etc).
(Now I'm able to just about keep my phone completely turned off, don't need to run Escort Live on the phone anymore)
Wish this worked for my Cadillac CTS Nav screen. That would be pro.
No luck for me..... I have an AppRadio2 in both my cars. Used it a LOT while traveling for Pandora and Google Maps and worked decent enough with my HTC EVO 4G LTE. Can't get it to connect at all on this S4. Bluetooth pairs fine but when I plug in the MHL cable (using Pioneer Android kit) it will not see the phone. Neither unit will.

You need a mhl 3.0 adapter for it to work. I had to buy one when I went from my note to my s4.

That worked. Picked up an adapter for a Galaxy S3 at the Samsung "store" at the local Best Buy. Worked perfectly. I just wish the cable was a little longer on the adapter. I had mine originally setup with the adapter in a coin pocket below the shifter. My phone would rest snugly in the cup holder and the cable would reach it perfectly. The cable on the Samsung adapter is may 3" long. Way too short to be useful.
Now if I can figure out how to get the screen from blanking when I close the flip cover when in car mode....
